Where to Find Locally-Loved Dishes Around LA | Eater

"A husband and wife team runs the kitchen in this neighborhood gem, known for freshly made Greek gyros on handmade pita bread, delectable cheesesteaks, and perfectly seared smashburgers that beg to be enjoyed with an ice-cold Pepsi. You can find other Mediterranean specialties like spanakopita and bourekas on the menu, but the real showstopper is the array of baklava — available in flavors like traditional walnut, pistachio, and apple — made daily." - Bernadette Machard de Gramont

We loved this adorable mom and pop Greek restaurant! Truly super authentic, everything made fresh to order. The meat is spiced perfectly and super tender and juicy! We will come back for the Baklava! Loved the couple who owns this place energy, they’re both so genuine and kind! Best example of a small business being a special part of the community! Eat here!

Two simple words describe Mythpoint — WOW! PERFECTION! 😋 We had been waiting for a while to try out Mythpoint and it was 1000% worth it. We wanted to try out their Philly Cheesesteaks and Smash Burgers and it did not disappoint. This is a family run business, and everything is freshly made, tasty and incredibly flavorful. The cheesesteaks were perfectly prepared, great portions and great cost. We ordered another to split because they were so damn good - we couldn’t stop ourselves. The smashburgers were delicious as well. Perfectly prepared, fresh and flavorful. And the fries - they are perfectly spiced and crispy. We are all of them. All I can say is that we are hooked. Coming from the east coast and accustom to the best - and Mythpoint is right there at the top. So next time - we are not only having more cheesesteaks - but we will indulge in the amazing Greek food and baklavas If you have a chance - it’s worth it

These guys (husband and wife) have got this stuff down. Their traditional Gyro is on point, the best for 100 miles. 4 kinds (at least) of chewy, gooey baklava. Highly recommended anytime.

The food here is good, not amazing. I had the triple cheese cheesesteak and fries. The fries weren't very crispy. The cheesesteak was enjoyable, but I've had many local cheesesteaks that were much better. The people there were friendly and the food was prepared quickly and on-time. While not blown away by the food, it is good enough to try again and see if I can find something more to my liking. I tried it again, while I’m still not amazed by the food, my family and I definitely enjoyed our meal. It is a very friendly place to eat.

The vegan falafel was wow!! Perfectly crunchy yet moist. The hummus and salad were so fresh and flavorful. The grape leaves were superb. Every mouthful was an explosion of flavor. Wow! Wow!! Wow!! Service was also amazing. The owners and their grandson are very welcoming.

This restaurant is awesome. It's a family run business, that is in a very nice busy. This is a Greek place to go with both carnivore and vegan friends. They offer impossible meat for anybody their items and even vegan cheese. This is one of the most welcoming places I have been to in a while. I'm not Greek but it felt like I was home.

Google
We loved this it was so delicious. I got the gyros pita and he got the deluxe plate. Soft drinks were 16 oz which is great. More places should have this size. We are both so full I have leftovers. We will be back! Very kind and friendly people work here! Hot food. Very flavorful. They wanted to be sure we were happy and enjoying our food. Thank you!

From my very first bite of Mythpoint's Triple Cheesesteak, I knew I had stumbled into a great restaurant! I discovered the restaurant while headed to Jersey Mike’s with a coworker. I was regrettably going to order Jersey Mike’s cheesesteak as that is my favorite type of sandwich even though the one from Jersey Mike’s always leaves me disappointed. As I was entering the door, I looked over to my right and saw Mythpoint’s sign toting their cheesesteak offering. I immediately left my coworker in Jersey Mike’s and headed over. I normally can’t stand food and often skip eating lunch at work as the restaurants in the area that I have tried always left me disappointed at best and feeling terrible at worst. Mythpoint’s triple cheesesteak with added jalapenos however has quickly become my go-to meal; even more so after I have discovered the free beer after 5PM you can get with your meal. The meat is juicy, flavorful, and loaded with cheese; all stuffed into perfectly toasted bread. Each bite leaves a trail of melted cheese that leads from your mouth back to the sandwich. The fries are another standout item. Each fry has a crispy golden texture and are not overly salted, making them absolutely irresistible. Potatoes are one of the few food items that I am usually always ok with so when my family goes out for fast food, such as McDonald’s, I usually only order their fries as everything else on the menu makes me feel terrible after eating it. Now that I have had Mythpoint’s fries however, I doubt I will ever be willing to go to fast food again as you can’t compare the quality of Mythpoint’s fries to the ones you get from fast food. I find myself coming here almost daily now, drawn in by the amazing food and the welcoming atmosphere. For those who appreciate a great meal, Mythpoint is amazing. I wouldn’t say that I make a ton of money and I am extremely hard to satisfy when it comes to meals, so I used to rarely eat out besides the occasional fast food when we don’t feel like cooking; however, make sure to scan the shop for signs offering their discounts. Everywhere you look there are ways to save money and they are a fantastic way to enjoy the great food here without stretching your wallet! The average amount I am spending here is $20 per full meal and drink for reference on how much I am spending. When I am on average spending $15 on a meal elsewhere that makes me feel awful there is no doubt in my mind that I would spend the extra $5 to eat here. Recently I have started to branch out of my usual cheesesteak and tried their lamb skepasti, shown in one of my pictures (The other is of my dad's garlic cheesesteak order). The triple cheesesteak is still my favorite dish but that is most likely because I love cheesesteaks. The quality and flavor of the skepasti was spot on and if you are not a fan of cheesesteaks, I am sure you will be able to find a dish that will satisfy you! I am going to continue trying the rest of their menu so can enjoy everything that Mythpoint has to offer!

Yelp
Jimmy's midpoint is a regular stop on our way up to Ventura. The food is always amazing and the staff is so friendly. I don't think we've ever had anything bad here to eat. The entire menu is great and the homemade baklava is amazing. It's served in a pan that you would see in your grandma's house simply amazing!!

Yelp
This place is so highly reviewed, idk if I'll be saying anything others haven't, but here's my take. The female owner is delightful. She was super nice and joked around with me and my wife as we were ordering..great sense of humor. She mentioned her responsibility in the store food-wise is all the bakery items (spanakopita, baklava, etc) while her husband's is the main menu items: cheesesteaks, gyros, etc. I had already liked her vibe from our personal interaction, and it was confirmed with the various signs around the joint -- see my pics for what I'm referring to. I had a mushroom cheesesteak with fries and started with a spanakopita. The spanakopita was perfect. The feta was salty, and the dough was super crispy but still very delicate. The cheesesteak was all the right amounts of cheesy and meaty. The mushrooms were not overdone, which can be common. They were still chewy and not slimy despite being smothered in hot melty cheese. I'm sure there will be some purists out there who will complain they don't serve whiz, but I am not of that breed, as I much prefer the 'real' thing. I imagine the owners feel the same, given this excerpt from their website: "Nothing is frozen, artificial or refined. We think food should be made of food as in the old days - We don't like thickeners, preservatives, coloring, flavorings, and other additives." The real star of the show, though, is their French fries...maybe the best I've had? The flavor on them is unreal, and I don't know if it comes from the oil/fat they're using to fry them or a seasoning; but given the lack of visible seasoning, I believe it to be the former. They're of the steak fry variety, but not super thick or wide. They're fluffy in the middle and super crispy on the outside without being crunchy. I nearly always dip my fries in ranch or mayo, but these fries stand on their own. Seriously, a wonderful fry. If you're into Mediterranean food or cheesesteaks and/or want to support a great mom n pop operation, I suggest driving straight here. And don't forget the fries.

Yelp
Best cheesesteaks! And the service is also great. Highly recommend supporting this family owned business.

Yelp
Another amazing meal at Mythpoint. Sitting on the patio and enjoying the gyro plate with my husband. Our favorite place for Greek food.

Yelp
Amazing food. Phenomenal service. Soo amazing we went 2 weeks in a row. We had something completely different both times. Both times amazing !

Sherry S.

Yelp
Dang! Can't believe after years of coming here I have never left a review for this authentic Greek spot! The owner is super friendly & greets you warmly while she cracks the whip for husband and son to whip out the best gyros (quite a selection) and great Philly cheese steaks. The baklava is also delicious. VERY speedy for takeout & indoor/outdoor seating is also available.

Yelp
Food fantastic and the service Highly recommend! Delicious garlic feta fries a must try!

Yelp
This place is fire. Family owned 150 year old family recipes made with love. The spanakopita is insane. The baklava is wild. Enjoy.

Yelp
Amazing food! Amazing people that own the restaurant. The traditional Greek food is amazing, the cheesestakes are some of the best around and the burgers are phenomenal!! Do yourself a favor and stop by.

Yelp
The menu has so much variety, and everything I've tried has been top-notch. The fries are absolutely unreal--crispy, flavorful, and addictive. The owner is hilarious and really adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're craving a gyro, a cheesesteak, or a fresh salad, you can't go wrong here. Everything is fresh and made with love--you can really taste the difference!

Mike L.

Yelp
Driving from LA, we always come here passing through to the outlets. There is no gyro place better than here. No in LA, not anywhere nearby. It is the best. Good portions. Fresh. Hot. And very nice couple.

Yelp
The owners were so sweet and the food was outstanding!!! Super cute ambience and fun things to read on the walls:) the best burger and baklava!!

Jessalyn K.

Yelp
Delightful to meet Owner, Cici, & genuinely appreciate your family business offering authentic Greek cuisine - as a fellow Greek, Enjoy! I want to provide some feedback regarding the Discrepancy between the portion sizes displayed in all Marketing Visuals & the actual servings customers receive. The pictures show you getting a much larger portion than what you get. Also, the prices aren't listed on the to-go menus, and the ambiance doesn't quite align with the higher price point. Further, it appears there's a surcharge for card payments that isn't communicated upfront. Clear pricing and disclosure of payment fees are essential for customer clarity and trust. I hope this feedback is helpful as you continue to grow your business. You have a plethora of adjustments to make to stay Open, Honest & Lucrative! I see you edited your review back to me & I clearly know that your wife's name is Cici and she's the owner of the business so providing my receipt shouldn't be compulsory. I've come in a few times and each time my guests shared that they didn't have enough food esp based on your photos! To start your response to me with,"first of all" is very caustic and inappropriate. I met your wife and she was very pleasant, unfortunately it really sounds like you are not! I won't be coming back after your very rude post to my mere Honest suggestions to you, Jimmy. Especially being the Owner! Do better

Yelp
Probably the best gyro I have ever had, I cant wait to try other things. The smashed burger is first on my list! :)

Bill B.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the lady was very nice. I ordered the gyro plate with hummus and extra meat. I'm definitely adding this to my list of places in my area!

Yelp
I am from Philly and believe me when I tell you this is the best cheesesteak you'll find in SoCal. The atmosphere makes you feel like you're part of their family and the food was delicious. I cannot believe there is a place that makes Philly cheesesteaks this well outside of Philly! Do yourself a favor and try one!

Sande W.

Yelp
I discovered Mythpoint Bistro when I was at Western Bagel. I love Mediterranean food. Their lamb gyros are delish! I have been there three times last month introducing friends to it. Give it a try. It's a fun experience too. The owners are so much fun and welcoming!

Marjorie F.

Yelp
I would drive miles and miles to get a falafel at Mythpoint. They make the best falafels I've ever had. Prompt, friendly service too! I highly recommend Mythpoint. I am addicted and have to go there at minimum, once a week.

Phil L.

Yelp
Amazing find! Homemade Greek food and cheesesteaks and burgers - something for everyone. Fresh homemade food that is really delicious. Definitely five stars with shaded patio seating outside. I had the Duece cheesesteak and my wife had the humus falafel pita sandwich. Both were awesome. Added spanakopita which was homemade. All five stars.

Yelp
I came by for lunch around 12:30pm on a Thursday and there was no wait to order at the front. The restaurant offers a great variety of selection on their menu! After taking a couple minutes to finalize my order I was greeted and checked out by the friendly cashier. I had decided to try their Garlic Butter Chicken Gyro with veggies, side of fries and a coke which all came out to around $20. Pretty steep price. My food was prepared in only a few minutes. I decided to eat on their front outdoor tables since it was a day of sunshine. Upon my first bites I was not really Wow'd to say the least. I think the portion size was great and all but the flavor/seasoning was not anything that would convince me to return for the price. The food was good, prepared well, and served with a smile, I just was just expecting more savory to put it frank. The fries were nice, crisp and plentiful. Overall the ambiance was great, well kept interior with condiments and silverware kept in the open for customers to help themselves. Maybe I just need to try a different item from their menu in the future, but from what I tried, it tasted like it could use more seasoning and complimentary ingredients.

Heidi J.

Yelp
This place is great! Nice, friendly owners, great food and a clean restaurant. I had the New York cheesesteak with fries and the pistachios baklava. The cheesesteak was excellent. The bread was fresh and soft (not chewy), the meat was well well seasoned. The fries were crispy. The baklava was delish. I am not a fan of baklava but this baklava was awesome. Homemade recipe going back generations. Definitely try this place.

Yelp
The food is incredible, and the music is great. Best burger I've ever eaten! Also, had the Greek salad and the dressing was amazing. The people running it were super nice as well. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Googled them, and love their story. Family owned, real fresh ingredients, proud of their heritage. Ordered: Fifty Fifty Gryo Plate (chicken, half beef & lamb gyro with rice, tzatziki sauce, humus & pita). Love everything. Chicken is moist and tender, so as the gyro. You can tell that the ingredients are fresh and housemade. Definitely will come back

Yelp
Husband and wife owned/operated Greek food haven in an unassuming strip mall next to the hardware store on TO Blvd. But don't be fooled by the exterior or its location. This place has serious food chops! And they're funny to boot. They obviously enjoy what to do, and there's a lot of love and family infused in every bite of their food and its evident. Gyro Beef and Lamb Pita: lamb and beef blend with spices served on a Greek pita with tomatoes, onion, iceberg lettuce, fries and tzatziki sauce. This is heaven in every bite. The pita is so soft, and the good kind of chewy. It has a great texture and feels good with every bite. The meat is perfectly seasoned (and actually reminded me of lamb kebabs I used to get on a street corner in Mumbai, India as a kid - so they get extra props for throwing me back to my childhood.) Chichi is the wife and is behind the counter to serve the customers and to provide comic relief if needed.

Julian T.

Yelp
Possibly the best place I have ever went to in my life. Unbelievably respectful and kind. Great service and the food really is top notch. Made with love and you can tell. This place will not disappoint you. I will continue to come back until kingdom come.

Yelp
I don't think there's too much else I can add about this gem of a restaurant in Westlake other than, if you haven't tried it yet, what are you waiting for? Tonight we ordered the family meal for 4 which allows you to choose two proteins and comes with a Greek salad and 5 pita breads . You can also customize for more premium protein options for an additional charge. They offer great Greek food including Gyros, plates and sides like stuffed grapes leaves, tzatziki (a tip that their version leans more on the dill flavor side vs overpowering garlic flavor), hummus and they make their own baklava in house. In addition they serve a variety of Philly cheesesteaks (I plan to try these in the future) If you want to save some time you can order ahead on various platforms, they actually will send you a text when your food is ready and give you an estimated time and receipt via email. Super helpful for planning. The inside has a few seating areas if you choose to sit indoors and has a small cafe vibe to it. I thoroughly enjoy the signage inside which will make you appreciate the family and cooks that run this place. I will definitely be back for more.

Yelp
I like this place it makes it makes solid gyros, cheesesteaks and have been to this place a few times I highly recommend if craving Greek food

Jill K.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly service, and a great local business overall. I've tried so many menu items and everything is always fresh and yummy.
google avatar

Yelp
A local mom and pop spot in Thousand Oaks shines bright with their friendly service and great tasty food. My favorite is the Cheesesteak! This is the real deal and It is ginormous and screaming with flavor and fresh. The rest of the menu items are also equally palate pleasing. Give them a try and support a local favorite!
google avatar

Yelp
I thought the sign on the front of their restaurant was funny. We ordered the chicken plate and it was good., meat was moist and tender. Salad was refreshing

Yelp
Ok- I know what a Philly Cheesesteak is supposed to taste like - Geno's, Pat's and Dalessandro's are The Best. Came here to try a cheesesteak sandwich. Well it's Not a Philly Cheesesteak at all. The bread was soggy (probably because they wrapped it in this paper and then foil. The steak was not chopped in to the cheese and I asked with peppers - It came with chopped bell peppers ? Should have been hot peppers . Don't get me wrong it was good and satisfying, But not a Philly Cheesesteak.

Annie S.

Yelp
While waiting for my car to be serviced, I wondered in. What a delight the owner was and delicious food! I highly recommend you stop by and give this hard working couple a try.

Matthew G.

Yelp
Hands down categorically BEST CHEESEBURGER AND FRIES in town period. I've literally traveled all over California and have experience some of the best award-winning Smash burgers this state has to offer and I must say, this place is at the top of my list. Their patties are beautifully blended, well balanced flavor and season perfectly. Never too much sauce or salt and always made to order. The fries are insanely crispy and always piping hot. They always welcome me in with a smile and remember my order. If you want a mouthwatering cheeseburger and fries with great customer service go hit up the spot. **For all the people who gave them less than 5 stars you need to check your pallet and go eat McDonald's.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Baklava ever!!! We made sure to eat dessert first ( because grownups can, lol ) and brought some home as well. The folks behind the counter are really passionate about providing amazing food with ample portions. A few tables inside, and several out on the patio-

Steve O.

Yelp
Well-prepared and flavorful burger! Really great service!! A restaurant with personality!
google avatar

Irene O.

Yelp
Greek Apollo Burger....DELICIOUS!!! The feta cheese is next level. A must try at this family owned restaurant. Don't forget to order the Baklava. It is amazing!

LR W.

Yelp
Delicious, large portions, nice atmosphere, very friendly staff taking our order. A little pricey but i think its totally worth it. I will definitely be coming back :)
google avatar

Caryscia B.

Yelp
Been here a few times and the food has been great. First time here I had the mushroom cheesesteak. It was flavorful and they did not skimp on the meat. I've also had the lamb and beef gyro salad. Again, no skimping on the meat and the dressing was delicious! Definitely one of my favorite things I've ordered here. The service is always friendly. I had a large order and they immediately asked if I needed help carrying it out. The space inside is a bit small but I'm usually getting food to go. They do have some tables outside which is nice as it can get a little smokey from the cooking. Overall a good spot with solid food and service.

Mark N.

Yelp
Got the American cheese steak. Tasted great. However it was short on content. Cut in half it had very little filling. Compared to picture of sandwich on menu, it was tiny. Like a lot of restaurants rather than raise prices, they cut the size down. Won't be going back.
google avatar

Barbara M.

Yelp
My daughter brought home spanokopita, amazing! The baklava is to die for! I'm sorry I didn't post pictures but I will! I want to visit myself and eat there in person.
google avatar

Karen O.

Yelp
The food was so fresh and large portions . I had the Greek salad and my husband had the Gyro plate . Both delicious. The sandwiches looked amazing so we are definitely going back there. The owners were super friendly .
google avatar

R. A.

Yelp
The star rating drove me to this place. The food was okay. The cashier was friendly but the service was slow. I cannot give this place a 5 star as the food was not exceptional. It was an ordinary Greek food that you could try at any chain Greek restaurant in LA. For LA's standards I would not rate this place more than a mediocre place. The price was also on a higher side compare to portion size. I had to go to McDs across the place after!

Yelp
How did I happen upon this "mythical" and amazing restaurant with my family? We waited AN HOUR for taste of Italy with being on the waiting list, and they kept lying about how long we'd have to wait. So we tried this place which was next door. We had a concert at the civic arts theater and no time to waste. To our surprise the warm and family-friendly woman owner helped us order and experience a great and magical dinner. My kid got the lamb shwarma with fries, garlic lamb shwarma and salad for me, Philly cheesesteak for the man. Fresh, flavorful, perfect quality, delicious. I tried the chocolate chip baklava and it tasted like moms hug. I'm thrilled we came here. Will return anytime we're in the area. Also they have funny sayings on the walls.
google avatar

Elliot B.

Yelp
Bought a 1/2 lb of sliced Boars Head roast beef for $6.50. Took it home and made two delicious sandwiches from it with lettuce, tomato, cheddar, avo, mustard & mayo . Fabulous. Only problem is we both ate it before we thought to take a picture. No worries. We'll be back for more.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
I been here a few times now and I have to say each time this place exceeded my expectations. Though on my most recent visit I tried something new called "Spanakopita" it was delightful and each bite filled me with joy I love the service here as well she is really nice and makes it easy to pick out the food, calm or joyful music was playing on some of my visits, some modern some a little bit of a throwback but overall this place is one of my favorites by far.

Alex F.

Yelp
This place continues to amaze me. The customer service is so impeccable! I order online for work and if I am a little later than the pickup time, they remake the fries so they aren't cold (the fries are so good I would eat them cold). Right when you walk in you are greeted by the friendliest hello as if you are part of the family. I have tried many things here and everything is incredible. If you haven't tried Mythpoint, you are missing out big time.
google avatar

Yelp
adorable mom-and-pop kind of restaurant with super friendly staff and fast service ! there were tables outside with pamphlets on how they started their family business that were very cute this is the first time i've seen a vegetarian philly cheese steak ordered, so i had to try it, and it was really delicious! i got the spicy version, and the jalapenos added such a great pickled and spicy kick that cut the heaviness of the cheese and impossible meat. the toasted bread was delicious, and i wasn't able to finish it, but i heated up the other half in the oven the next day, and it was still very good! we also ordered the falafel plate, which came with a salad, rice, grape leaves, hummus, and pita. the pita was fresh and thick, unlike some other places that have store-bought pita, but the hummus was pretty generic. falafel was good, not too salty, but also not as aromatic as some places. overall, definitely recommend this for the philly cheesesteaks--especially if you're vegetarian because it still tastes great!
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
So good! I had the garlic butter cheese steak with chicken and it was incredible. Flavorful deliciousness and the bread was perfectly soft. We also tried a few of their baklava which are home made and out of this world. I took some spanakopita home for the family, they threw them in the air fryer for a few minutes and were raving about them. I also love that it's a mom and pop. They keep it clean in there and I love that the tables have paper towels by the roll! Very lovely little setting and such a wonderful and helpful woman behind the counter - answering all of our questions. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Greek and Cheesesteaks?! Hear me out. Trust the family-owned team to serve up some love and tasty homemade recipes from Greece and Macedonia. Featuring daily specials in a densely populated restaurant row in the sleepy strip mall in Westlake Village, Mythpoint delivers on some very tasty options. You can't go wrong with any of the plates, wraps or cheesesteaks. The breads are fresh, the flavors are plentiful and the service is friendly and welcoming. Several vegan, vegetarian and other plant-based options to satisfy everyone's hunger. Oh, and the homemade baklava? A definitely MUST.
