Not A Damn Chance Burger - Review - Wicker Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This Austin, TX import that’s been operating out of The Drop In now has its own Chicago brick-and-mortar in Wicker Park. Along with a full bar, they have the same small food menu with with wagyu smashburgers and fries. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - John Ringor

I WILL be dreaming about this burger… AND I WILL BE BACK 😭 Also the ketchup was seasoned?! What the helly?! BRILLIANT! And the fries?! THE FRIES? Yum! Also I need yall to understand the quality and ingredients that are used to make these masterpieces are worth the price! It’s not a regular shmegular smash burger! It’s happiness and satisfaction in every bite. Seating did fill up quickly after I arrived, but the menu is small and the food is great so seats open up quickly!

Google
Great service and well staffed. Small menu so they churn it out quickly. Double patty burger is pricey though, more sized like shake shack when I was hoping for a small cheval size. Single patty is plain and was overcooked for me. Fries were super bready probably could’ve used more salt. We got fries beast mode which helped spice it up a bit more. Limited seating and quick stop. Nice to try but not sure it stacks up as a worthy competitor (in value) to the established burger scene here already. $46 for a burger, junior burger, canned beer and beast fries (with a tip)

Now that NADC Burger opened a location closer to me, I finally got the chance to try. Expectations were high after all the hype I’ve heard about this place over the last few years and I think they delivered! We went on a Saturday night and it wasn’t too packed at all, service was great and really quick. As for the burger, it’s very nice rich from the double Wagyu patty, but I think it’s the perfect size. I like the addition of Jalapeños (although I wish they were fresh not pickled, I think that would be even better) and their sauce is great. For fries, if you’re there with just two people, grab one order Beast Mode Style and you should have plenty, it’s a pretty generous portion. I would easily put this burger in my top 5 in Chicago, definitely worth checking out!

Google
Phenomenal burger, fast service, but it lacks the charm of the west loop location. The dive bar feel along with the drink menu is paired down since we visited the other location. The burger is still amazing and worth a buy despite the price, but without the dealers choice pour of malort it feels like they left something out.

I’m not really a review person but am writing this as a heads up to anyone else who likes to try new places. I’m all for giving them a shot but maybe not this one. Jr Burger is $8 and about the size of a slider, normal burger is $16 and also on the smaller side but has an extra patty and some additional condiments, plain fries are $5 and also on the smaller side. The service was fine, you walk up and order, and they call your name to pick up your meal. It didn’t feel like great service but it wasn’t bad. I was really disappointed in the meal- jr burger was charred, and when there’s only cheese and a patty on a bun, it would be good for the burger to at least taste decent. The normal burger was better because it had more toppings, but $16 is ridiculous for the size and not being able to customize your burger at all. The fries were plain and nothing special, but maybe if you get the upgraded version they’re better. We like to try new places with the hope of finding something good but NADC stands for not a damn chance we’d go again. Good luck to them because they are newer to the area. They should consider offering more customizations for their burgers, creating a more inviting atmosphere because the space is honestly a bit stale, and in general, putting more effort into the few menu items they do make. I wouldn’t recommend this place to friends.

Google
AMAZING burger! I’ve been here a couple of times and it’s just absolutely delicious. I love pressed burgers and the seasoning is on point. The service was top notch as well. Even my kids enjoyed the burger and fries. Will keep coming here when I’m in WP! It’s a must try!

Google
This is the perfect spot to needlessly spend money. We got two burgers and two fries. It was over $40... Well sure, you might say, it's expensive, but it has to be worth it, right? Uh, no. It's a smash burger. It's good. It's even a little above average. But nowhere on earth is this worth the price. SALT is two blocks away and that's an equally good burger and fries for half the price. And I'd consider SALT fairly expensive compared to something like Red Hot Ranch, which is also equally as good and a quarter of the price of this place. There's just no reason to pay that much unless: 1. You've got too much money. So much it causes you pain and you need a place to burn it immediately or 2. You're some sort of sheep person flocking to the newest place regardless of price or comparable quality. In general, you shouldn't go into debt for a burger, especially one that's just pretty okay.

I've been to the other location and had a great time, but this location had terrible service. Went with a friend and ordered a burger, fries, and beer. My friend and two other customers order after me and get their food before me. I go up to ask about my order TWICE and they acted like everything was fine and normal. Didn't get my burger until after my friend and the two other customers were completely done with their meals. No apology or acknowledgement that anything was wrong. The fries were also extremely salty... NOT A DAMN CHANCE that I go back to this place with so many other great burger establishments in the area.

Yelp
Jr burger! not too filling service was quick and ambiance was chill and laid back. Definitely will be back

Yelp
Now THATs how you do a wagyu burger! 10/10 flavorful, juicy & tender! I also ordered the loaded fries, reminds me of In n Out animal style fries. They had a list of beers and cocktails, but didn't opt for it this time. The vibes are immaculate inside, the service was swift, friendly and they can really sing !! (Its not part of their gig, but their playlist had amazing song choices haha) They have a photobooth that has B&W/Color options - 7$ for 3 photos,2 strips. Whenever I visit Chicago again, I will be coming back here!

Yelp
Different set up but SOLID burger and beast mode fries are life!!! Have I mentioned the cocktail menu doesn't F$&@ around??? I had a cocktail and was feeling quite good!!!! Lastly service was different like you place order and sit but they definitely care about your food and come check up on you to see if it's all good! Let's not forget the music and vibes!!! All in it's a fantastic choice for Wicker Park for both and drink!!! I'll definitely be back!!! Bravo NADC!!!! You've definitely got a new fan!!

Yelp
Great service and enough space at the bar to enjoy a meal. The food didn't take long from order to delivery. Very flavorful NADC burger. I usually need to add more flavor with hot sauce, ketchup, mustard, etc., to burgers. I didn't for this. Which it would only taste better obviously with your choice of condiments, but it tastes really great on its own. I tried the loaded fries. Slightly different than animal fries from In n out or something like that, which is good. These feel like they have more of a Chicago hot dog topping distinct flavor which is nice. Likely the celery salt lol yet nonetheless it was good. Also received a free homemade cookie. The Goose Island non-alcoholic root beer was good.

Yelp
Stopped in for an early dinner. Their menu is very small and concise, they only have 3 things on there, the nadc burger, a kids burger, and fries. The fries are excellent, they seem double fried, extra crispy. The ketchup had some extra spice in it that wasn't my favorite tho. The burger was very good imo, juicy and flavorful. It was perfect for me, but my husband said it was too small and not satisfying enough for him for the price. The workers were friendly and nice. The inside is simple and industrial feeling. They were playing home alone, in july. I sorta loved it lol Christmas in July! Easy street parking out front, pay to park.

Yelp
I was super impressed with NADC burger! We stopped by at 7:30 on a Friday night and only waited a couple mins before we were able to grab a table. You order at the counter so it's not a one wait. The menu is limited to basically just the burgers, fries, and drinks, similar to small cheval. So that's what we went with. My husband got the loaded fries which he enjoyed but said he wouldn't get again. The burgers were solid! I would say my top fast casual Chicago burger thus far. Better than small cheval IMO. The fries were also tasty. Nice and crispy and the homemade ketchup was delicious. My only complaint was for a $20 burger it's def small. But otherwise I highly recommend!

Yelp
Was honestly really blown away by the burger , After eating it it's hard to think of another burger that can top it , especially a smash burger . Place was clean, staff was friendly . My only gripe is that it's pretty pricey , but the taste did kind of justify it . I'll definitely be back , probably not a place I'd frequent as much as I'd like cause of the cost Side note : wasn't really fan of the ketchup but my girlfriend was so there's that too . Fries were fire tho

Yelp
Wow! Incredible burger and lives up to the hype. Love the vibe of the place and the staff were super friendly. Highly recommend getting the fries beast mode style. So good!!

Yelp
Respectable smashburger, but not top tier. Didn't care for the fries despite being double fried in tallow. Ketchup with curry is also a miss for me. Honestly I'd rather have Red Hot Ranch ($7 vs $21) and save myself $14. 3.4 stars

Yelp
The picture does not do the burger justice. This is by far one of the best burgers in the city. 10 out of 10!
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
This is by far my favorite smash burger in the city! I'm so happy I don't have to drive as far now. The fries are way better too.

Yelp
Great burger, very fast and friendly service. The jalapeños on the burger and fries are a great addition and the secret sauce is just as good as In-N-Out!

Yelp
Glad they brought NADC to the neighborhood! Wicker Park has some great burger joints and this is no different. The smash almost reminds me of a cross between a gourmet White Castle and LA's In n Out! But with much, much better meat. The cheese reminds me of a legit Philly cheesesteak. That Wagyu beef has amazing caramelized edges, and the burger is not overpowering. It's a great size. You can eat it and not feel stuffed like some places. I tried the fries but next time I'll go for the animal style. I crushed a Jr and then had the classic NADC double! Full fatty this week. Get the double it's great and super juicy. Everybody in there is friendly and they are in a perfect location to have huge success. Welcome to the neighborhood and thanks for the hospitality. Support small business WP/BT! Cheers to Chicago smash burgers. They might be better than pizza?

Yelp
A great Wicker Park burger spot. Dark colors on the inside like you're at a burger bar with a nice cocktail menu and beer if you're into that. We always have the Mexican Coke which goes great with a burger... and oh yes, the burger... Double patty of 100% wagyu beef, American cheese, secret sauce, onions, pickles, slightly tamed jalapeños is delicious and served on a toasted bun that's light and flaky. This cheeseburger rocks and make sure to add the Beast Mode French Fries that come with cheese, diced pickles & slightly tamed jalapeños, special sauce & seasoning on top. The service was great like they check on you and make sure you're enjoying your food. We've been back twice so we like it!

Yelp
Burger is excellent. The atmosphere is cozy with good service. I wouldn't describe the price as a value but it's worth checking out.

Sophia M.

Yelp
The best burgers in Chicago! I love that their fries are perfectly crispy. They have a photobooth inside which I love (warning the pictures are taken right after each other, no countdown ,so be pose ready) Overall highly recommend you check them out!

Bella P.

Yelp
The burger was amazing!!! Super flavorful and juicy. Saw a review saying they usually like to customize condiments but you do not need to for this burger and that's the truth! I was shocked it's even better than it looks in pictures. 10/10 burger and love the unique spin of the pickled jalapeños! It's like a slightly upscale version of In-N-Out! Got the plain fries they were okay tasted kinda stale. Saw a review about goose island root beer being good but the one they gave me was IBC brand it was okay. Staff was friendly when we picked up to go order. Definitely try a burger!

Yelp
Smaller burger size but very good. Excellent fries and tons of them. Will be returning for sure.

Yelp
Bad customer service, advice for the cooks don't look at customers with dirty looks when they walk in

Troy S.

Yelp
Great burger-- crispy smash burger like you'll find in all those small NYC burger joints. Fries were incredible, fried in beef tallow so they taste like McDonalds used to a couple decades ago. Generous portion for how cheap they were too. Chipotle ketchup was delicious as well. Friendly and welcoming staff, a good vibe all around!

Carol S.

Yelp
First, i must admit im a ketchup snob. My lowest standard is Heinz. They had none. Only their homemade stuff which is ok on the burger, but MY FRIES REQUIRE RESL KETCHUP. Other than that, burger was good. Not the best..... ( Chgo best are still Hesters and Lil Big Wolf. )

Yelp
In my top 3 burgers for Chicago and I've had my fair share. Staff was super friendly and accommodating for a larger to go order. An added bonus was the excellent music playlist while I waited for my order. I will definitely be back!

Owen V.

Yelp
You'll wait but it's worth it. One of the best burgers in the city. Pricey but again you know what you're going into

Kerry G.

Yelp
Not my favorite burger in the city. Didn't like the fries / dipping sauces. Prob won't be back

Yelp
This is a place I really wanted to like as I love a good burger but it felt a little out of place (to me) for Chicago. This city has so many great restaurants and burger places I was hoping this would be an another but alas the burger was not bad despite the waygu beef boasting. The people at the counter seemed ok. Not mean or great. Just ok. I got the cheeseburger and it had jalapeños on it which I was wondering if I would like it. Unfortunately I didn't. The fries were an interesting texture and flavor. A bit over seasoned for my taste but I should have asked for light to no salt. The ketchup has a different taste as well. I think it was chipotle mixed in with it. It looked kind of cool on the inside. I'm thinking it was inspired by skateboarding. It almost felt like a place that would be in Southern California which made me kind of bug out while looking out the window at Devil Dawgs across the street. It might be place for transplants but for the price point (expensive), area and other options I think most Chicagoans would opt for another place for a burger.

Ricky V.

Yelp
If you're wondering is it worth it. first of all I bought two burgers, 1 fries, and one drink 50$. Burger was very small for the hefty 18$ (includes tax) burgers that they are selling. Which I hate to say considering the name and the reputation they have but the burgers are mid and you WILL have a chance getting a bigger better burger elsewhere at half the cost. Service was fine the place was cool but the food didn't match I should've went with my gut when I saw the place empty for a place that claims to be "the best" in Chicago.

Jazmin I.

Yelp
You know in the movie "The Menu," when we think the main character is gonna die, but she flips the script and orders a cheeseburger. I remember watching her eat that cheeseburger and wishing I could try it. Well now I have and no one died.

Chandler H.

Yelp
Walked in excited and left disappointed... the staff was so rude and confusing. They only have 2 options. You can get a burger that has everything you can imagine or a burger with nothing but Kraft cheese. No in between. I ordered the jr and when I asked for pickles on the side and he stared at me and finally said "I guess" Now the actual food was meh. The "special" sauce is the most underwhelming sauce you will ever taste. The ketchup is just weird... oh and the pickles we had a stare off for were straight from a Vlasic pickle jar. Nothings wrong with those pickles but why'd we have to have a stand off for you to give me them.

Amanda C.

Yelp
Was very excited to try new burger spot in Wicker Park. I was not very hungry so I wanted to do a single burger (comes only with meat and cheese) opposed to the double burger that comes with onions, pickle, sauce. and etc. When I asked if I could do the single burger and add onions or other toppings, was told if I wanted toppings I would have to order the double burger and remove the extra patty myself. I couldn't believe it. This was shocking to me that they could not make any modifications given that they have an extremely limited menu (and adding a pickle to a burger is a simple request). Opted for the Jr burger since I didn't want to be wasteful and play with my food at the table. Extremely mediocre, found myself wishing I went to the other burger place I was in between for dinner. Also tried the regular fries and the beast mode fries. Nothing was absolutely terrible here, but it was so average and bland. Had two sauces (signature which actually had no taste) and the ketchup with chipotle, it was honestly just a weird flavor. Unfortunately would not return.
