Recommended by our ATV tour guide Mar, it was a tough call between several really great options for dinner in Vestmannaeyjar on Heimaey Island. Tasting menus always reel us in, and this was a no-brainer (the næs experience). Næs literally means 'nice' in Icelandic (slang, borrowed from English)... From their website: "Næs means nice --- food made from scratch from great produce, ideal to share" I can't help but think Borat would be proud of a place as niiiiiice as næs. The catch of the day was cod, and the summer beet and white fish crudo was crazy good. I had never tried dukkah before, but I'm hooked. So much flavor in the traditional Middle Eastern nut, seed and spice dip, but spiced, not spicy; we saw many menus with hazelnuts sprinkled throughout in Iceland, and this was no different. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and must have rested because that sucker was juicy. Helga (raspberry sour ale produced by Borg Brugghús in Iceland) and Viking lager (regular beer) helped us wash down our healthy helpings and no dessert pictured because the entrees had us walking the plank. Doggy bags for the sweets.

One of the best meals we had during our trip to Iceland. Located in Vestmannaeyjar, it is a true gem. The fish is as fresh as it gets—wild caught and prepared with real care. Each dish felt thoughtfully balanced, perfectly seasoned, and never overdone. You can tell the chef knows what they’re doing. Simple, honest, delicious food. If you're in the area, this is definitely worth a stop. Staff was super friendly and inviting. PS: give their Kombucha a try, won't let ya down

By far the best food we had during our one-week trip to Iceland! We had the fish of the day and it was amazing. I’m so glad that we chose to dine in at this restaurant! Highly recommend if you visit Vestmannaeyjabær.

LOVED this place! We came early, without a reservation and it paid off. Seated by the window with a glass of wine, watching the tasting menu starters being prepared in the open kitchen meters away within 5mins of arriving. The tomato burrata salad was the best I've ever had in my life (!!) and the romesco with flat bread was jaw dropping. Everything was fresh, prepared thoughtfully and singing with flavour. But it was our waitress Embla who made our experience unforgettable - taking the time to chat to us, recommend wines and even share top restaurants/food in stockholm (our next destination) while being the only service staff scheduled in a full restaurant. She is a queen!!! Thank you thank you thank you, I cannot wait to come back.

This was the best meal I've had in Iceland! We all had the full course service which includes 4 appetizers a main course and a dessert, all of which were phenomenal. The arinchini were perfectly crispy balls of cheesey gooey deliciousness. Our next course was an incredibly refreshing bowl of smooth creamy stratechella and crisp cherry tomatoes finished with basil olive oil. Next was the crown jewel of the menu, the lamb kofta, soft crispy and incredibly well spiced served on a flat wrap with pickled onions and a savory orange sauce. We were then served a very light dish of finely diced fish in mayo sauce under a refreshing layer of thinly sliced radish. Our main courses were a fish of the day and hangar steak. The fish was served in large portions, perfectly seared, served in another delicious savory orange sauce. The steak was also well seared, served in strips medium rare seasoned with another delicious house steak sauce. The steak was served alongside these incredibly creativly prepared square fries composed of layered crispy thinly sliced potatoes. Finally we were treated to a warmed slice of perfectly ripe pear served with a phenomenal homemade vanilla ice cream toppped with finely ground sweet breadcrumbs. A truly excellent dining experience, I would love to come back someday!

Phenomenal experience and food! The staff was beyond friendly and attentive, everything we had was unbelievably good, and I would go back again and again if I ever found myself here again. This is a must visit on the island.

Best gastronomical experience in our 10-day trip in Iceland. The food, “Fish of the Day” was simply delicious and very well presented. They have a very smart idea to keep kids entertained. All in all 100% experience!

Not a lot of places that can bring a whole trifecta of experiences. Staff were friendly, beer was excellent (we had the Viking beer), and the food was exactly what the doctor ordered. We had an almost hummus type dipping sauce with the flatbread that had Dukkah which is apparently a mix of herbs and nuts. Finished off with the Fish (catch) of the day -pan fried monkfish topped with shredded green apple and paired with a salad and fried celery root, all on a bed of a celery cream/tahini sauce. Cannot recommend this enough!
