12 Must-Try Indian Restaurants Around Atlanta

"Nestled in an office park off of Windward Parkway, Nalan offers many Indian dishes for the food lover interested in exploring traditional recipes from home kitchens across the country. While it features familiar fare such as tandoori, tikka masala, and koftas, explore regional dishes here such as idiyappam, or string hoppers, aapam, or hoppers made with rice flour and tapioca flour, and parotta, or layered white flour parathas crushed and served with traditional curries. The kal dosa is a spongy, home-style dosa with the texture of soft savory pancakes and is available with a host of sides. Finish up with a creamy coconut and fennel custard, a lightly sweet flan-like preparation sans caramel sugar." - Nandita Godbole

This is a great south Indian restaurant. Food was very authentic, their biryanis are good and shrimp items are delicious. They make Malabar parotta in house and they are very flaky and nice. Their egg curry is delicious. Classifies as decent and towards up scale Indian. Good ambience and restrooms are decent.

Plenty of parking available since this is located in a complex where there is lots of unpaid parking available. We had met here with some friends, which turned into a big group of 16 of us! They were so kind to accommodate us. To make things easier for payment, we paid as we ordered. They already included the gratuity due to our party size. It was a pro and a con. A pro to get it out of the way and easier for the staff. But it turned into a con as the night went on, since everyone kept ordering more, so they had to keep swiping. After ordering, with our group size, I wouldn’t say the food took too long to come out. It was definitely nice to try something new as many people had been raving about the specialty of Appam here. But I would say order more than you think, because it’s very light and I was VERY hungry after having my order. Everyone in the party ordered different things but quite a few people did try the Appam recommendation. It was light and airy and depending what you ordered it with, it came with a curry dish on the side. I did the egg curry and it was delicious! The container the egg curry comes in looks large but is much smaller than expected. The quantity of egg curry was not much to my liking, but it was tasteful. I also order a side of idiyappam, which came with two. Another person ordered the dish and it came with the side of coconut milk. This quantity was a lot, so she had extra for me to try as well. Many people in our group ordered the Madras Filter Coffee and they really like it. I don’t drink chai or coffee in the evenings. It came really hot so pretty hard to use the stainless steele it came in. But that was the charm as well. Overall a 4/5, because everyone enjoyed it and had a good experience. Would give this place another try.

Good food - I did a takeout. Their Hyderabadi biryani is good and has like fried onions and all of it. Their dosa is also great, chutney were fine.

The food here is delicious. The appams are perfect - it’s light and fluffy in the middle and crispy outside. The Nalan Special Mutton Chukka Biryani is a must-try. Taking off a star as I always feel extremely dehydrated after eating from here.

My first visit at Nalan Indian Cuisine, who is with in office group going out for lunch. This is a fast service Indian restaurant with high-quality food. In the interest of time we got that the lunch special, there are only 2 choices on the menu, Thali, vegetarian, and non-veg. I ordered the non veg thali. It came out hot and quick to the table. The flavors were amazing, which is why this place is popular and frequented. Mind featured chicken and lamb with great flavors, though, one of my lamb based sampler am was mostly bone and cartilage rather than meat. Other than that, the dishes were wonderful and had plenty of rice to eat with the assorted flavors. The dishs move from spicy all the way to a desert yogurt based offering. I can't tell you the name of all the dishes that are represented in the thali, but I would buy it again. Since I like spice, I might ask for it to be hotter the next time I go.

I recently visited [Restaurant Name], and while the food was decent, the overall ambiance left much to be desired. The restaurant felt cold and uninviting, and to make matters worse, it was so chilly inside that most people were eating dinner with their hats and coats on. It was incredibly uncomfortable and distracted from the dining experience. It’s clear that the place could use some updates, both in terms of temperature control and decor, to create a more welcoming atmosphere for customers. The owner should consider these changes to reflect the rich and vibrant culture that Indian cuisine is known for. With a little effort, this restaurant has the potential to shine, but until then, I can’t see myself returning. I hope these issues are addressed soon!

Google
Nalan Indian Cuisine in Alpharetta has been our favorite dinner spot for authentic South Indian food. We always enjoy their Appam, Ghee Dosa, Idiyappam, and Filter Coffee — all consistently delicious and full of flavor. Their idlis are super soft, just like homemade! It’s hard to find restaurant idlis that feel this fresh and fluffy, and my kids absolutely love them. The Ghee Dosa is crisp and flavorful, and the Idiyappam is delicate and perfect with their chutneys and curries. Their Filter Coffee is a must-have — rich, strong, and aromatic. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, and the staff are kind and attentive. Nalan is a true gem in Alpharetta for anyone craving real South Indian food.

Google
The interior is a little dim but it's modern, quaint, and its overall fantastic. The food is delicious and there's plenty of vegetarian options! The pricing is also very well done. Most Indian places are insanely overpriced for what you get but the pricing is spot on and the flavor is truly exceptional. I highly recommend coming here to anyone. Be aware that heat means heat. Savory spices are already there, but if you dare go spicy, don't say i didn't warn you.

Yelp
We went a little late on a Friday evening. Or maybe Saturday. The food was very good and portions were plenty sufficient. Service was a little slow. The South Indian filter coffee could/should be a good bit stronger.

Yelp
*NUT ALLERGY WARNING* I let the server know ahead of time that I have a nut allergy. He said that the dish I wanted to get had no nuts in it. The food came with two different sauces. I went with a creamy sauce more and wasn't a fan of the other one. In the one I didn't like too much, I dipped naan in it a couple times to try it. I told the server I liked the food and I proceeded to pay the $45 bill. I'm serious, the second I paid the bill, he told me there was nuts in one of the sauces. I believe the sauce I didn't like was the one with the nuts. I thought he was joking with me but, I eventually understood he was serious. It's obvious he asked the kitchen about halfway through the meal and proceeded to just not tell me so I would pay. We ran out of the place so we could prepare to go to the hospital. Otherwise, I would've asked for a refund. Thankfully, I had so little of the sauce that I'm not having a reaction as of an hour later. TO THE RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT: These types of practices could cost someone their life. YOU COULD KILL SOMEONE!!! Do better!

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE. it hits the right spot when I miss home and miss authentic South Indian food. Appam is one of my favorite foods in the whole world so I don't say this lightly, their appam is out of this world. Even my malayali friends approve of this appam. I scarfed this meal down so quick and looking at these pictures again makes me wanna drive there right now. A must visit if you like South Indian food, or are homesick and need real Indian tasting food that tastes like home. All the staff their were so nice and they excited to give suggestions. The place is small but cute and well maintained!

Yelp
Had lunch here to break up the work day and had mixed thoughts. The rose milk was ok. The dosa was quite greasy, but definitely tasty, and the chicken curry was delicious. The carrot halwa with ice cream was really disappointing. It just lacked flavor and sugar! I will prob try this place again, but order a different dessert.

Yelp
I waited waited over a half hour for food during lunchtime. I had a dosa, mint chutney, garlic naan and lamb vindaloo. Ended up having to take the food to go due to the wait. The dosa was solid, the naan sub par, the lamb had fatty pieces and gristle in it. Overall, very disappointing.

Yelp
A very unusual South Indian (Tamil Nadu oriented) restaurant with a very unique menu in terms of having Appam, Idiyappam, Gobi65, Kal Dosa etc. You normally don't find these items in most of South Indian based restaurants here in metro Atlanta. We went there as a group and happened to order just one starter and went with mostly what we call as "Tiffin" items. It wasn't that crowded at around 7 PM for a Saturday evening. Oh yes the main part of the restaurant was fully occupied and they have few tables behind a partition which actually doesn't give Restaurant like vibes where we all sat down. The order was taken quickly. So here's what we ordered and how they were. Gobi65 - It was the DRY Gobi65 which you get in most restaurants in Chennai. It was crispy but felt it was more of batter and Kashmiri Chilli powder and not much of taste. With Mint chutney it tasted good. Appam w/ Veg Kurma - There were 2 big pieces of Appam and was cooked well. Felt bit sweet and Veg Kurma was decent to me. Kal Dosa w/ Sambar Chutney - The Kal dosa is the best thing with some onions sprinkled at the middle. The chutneys - Coconut and Kaara (Spicy chutney) were really good. The sambar was okay to me but my friends loved it. Go for it! Idli w/ Sambar Chutney - The 3 pieces of idli's were just good. They looked big thinking they might be bit hard upon first glance. My friends had Vijayawada Boneless Chicken Biryani and they felt it was okay with normal spice and too much of Masala. Looking at the quantity I felt it was good for 2 people. The ambience was great in the main restaurant but the other side of the partition it was just normal and always smelt of a sizzler and took time to settle down and blend in. The ambience could have been a lot better. Not sure if due to lack of staffs or something when we exited we saw a lot of people waiting in line either to pay their bills or to take their TOGO's or waiting to be seated as they all are managed by a single cashier. Had previous experience of waiting long for TO GO when I ordered just one plate of Gun Powder idli which was decent. Expect wait times for TO GO's on weekends as well as for paying your bills. BOTTOMLINE: A decent family restaurant for Tamil Nadu style/ Chettinad cuisine lovers with decent pricing. MY PICKS FOR YOU: Kal Dosa with Sambar Chutney, Gobi65, Idli

Yelp
Exceptional unpretentious Indian cuisine in a strip shopping mall close to the 400, Hilton and Marriott in Alpharetta. BYOB, so bring some beer to temper the spice or a mango lassi may be your best alternative. Not that I am an expert by any means, it was very exciting to see their extensive menu options. In fact, while in the restaurant, I had to look up Idiyappam, Appam, and Idli as those expanded my Indian knowledge cuisine. I ordered the Idiyappam, rice flour noodles, and selected the veggie coconut milk stew to accompany it. The Appam is similar to my favorite doas but made with rice batter and coconut milk. I ordered one and it was crunchy at the edges and just a tad softer in the middle. We ordered samosas, veggie/onion pakora, chili paneer ...spicy peppers in a fried chick pea batter. Everyone else enjoyed the curry chicken served with basmati rice. Plenty of food for the 4 of us. Service was polite, patient with our questions, and efficient. Numerous veg and non veg options. Looking forward to our next visit when we are in town. See you there, don't forget the beer!

Yelp
I am very disappointed to write this review since I have heard about this restaurant from multiple people and through multiple articles. Sometimes your reputation precedes you so much that it becomes too good to be true and Nalan falls short under its towering reputation. I went there on a Tuesday and saw an immense crowd of people waiting for over 20 minutes to talk to someone at the reception Here is the summary of my experience there: Ambiance: 3/5 - The restaurant is a decent size but now they have extended it for more seating with a wall in between so sometimes it's difficult to gauge if they have enough seating Service: (minus)-5/5 - I am very disappointed with the service. As I mentioned earlier, when I entered the restaurant, there was no one at the reception. I had to wait 10 min to meet someone at the reception which was 1 person who was juggling around with about 40 guests. All I wanted was to ask about my takeaway. After talking halfway, he vanished again and I could see about 10 people who waited to be seated for another 20 minutes or so since there was no one to attend them. There was so much chaos that at one time I said I would have my food here itself. The receptionist said there was no space available even though my fiance was already sitting at a table. When I told him we had found a place to sit, he made a horrible face, which was so disappointing. The other servers were nice and at least asked us for water and made sure to look for our order. Food Quality: 2/5: We ordered gobhi Manchurian on phone and they asked us to come in 30 min. Even after being there for 45 minutes, they made us wait another 15 minutes saying it was not ready yet. When it was served, it was ice cold and felt like it was made hours ago. We felt like he was trying to get rid of us. The chicken biryani that we ordered does not have the option to reduce the spice level as we were strictly said - "we only have medium spice level as a minimum and cannot be customized below it". The chicken biryani is a little spicy for Indian tastebuds but not available to be tailored to American tastebuds at all. Value for money: 3/5: I would have given it 4/5 since the prices are decent but because the gobhi Manchurian was served cold, I would rather go to a place with worse food taste but at least, they would serve it hot. Overall, I was deeply disappointed because they owners need to increase staff if they want to have a continued reputation. My experience has been very bad and I would definitely stay away from this place for months before I have the courage to try them again.

Yelp
It's official! Best chicken Tikka masala anywhere! If you own, manage, or work at an Indian restaurant, why doesn't your restaurant make CTM this good? Been eating here since they opened and they are the best in the area IMO, bar none. Their consistency is excellent as well. Never had a bad meal here. They have the best CTM and best chicken 65 I've had anywhere. You should come just to try them. You can Venmo me your thanks for the recommendation later!

Yelp
This is my first time, visited this restaurant and it was amazing with great tasty food. I was with a group of my friends who were visiting here. We ordered their signature dish Ambur Chicken Biryani. Appetizers like Nellai Chicken and Mutton Chukka Varuval. Main course included Idiyappam Veg Kurma, Kal Dosa with Goat Curry, and Mixed Kothu Parotta which includes Egg, Chicken and Lamb. They were all very flavorful and tasted fresh. All appetizers are really tasty and with good mix of spices. Idiyappam was very soft inside and crunchy outside. My most favorite dish was definitely the Mutton Chukka Varuval. It is a dry roast mutton dish under appetizers, but I definitely recommend getting some appam as a side with it to enjoy the real spices. We tried both the appam and iddiyappam. The appam entre comes with two large appams. The Ambur Chicken Biriyani was very flavorful and came with a lot of chicken chucks. The curry for the Kal Dosa came in a fun container/mini bucket plus the Kal dosa tasted great with the chopped red onion and slight green chilis in the fold. This restaurant is conveniently located right in the intersection of North Point Parkway and Windward Parkway with ample free parking in and around the restaurant. It's just opposite to the newly built Hilton. They have a party hall for special occasions with friends and family to enjoy, which easily fits 50 plus people. Here the staff is very helpful and the place is maintained clean and neat. Not too pricey, but really affordable for a nice unique meal. I will definitely visit this place again soon and highly recommend this place to anyone to try it.

Yelp
Really awesome place to get Indian food in the area, we love their goat curries! Everything is always made to order and comes out, super fresh, definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

Yelp
What gets 5 stars : BOTH food and service are good! Food: Good, fresh, hot, and tasty. Options: Plenty!!!! Service: With/without a reservation, restaurant is accommodating and has many seats available. They also all fill up. Ordered: Myself: Vijaywada boneless chicken biryani. Table: samosa, chilli chicken, lamb tikka masala, poratha, chicken curry dosa, and more. All dishes looked fantastic. Everyone was happy with their orders as well. Parking: Plenty Located: Left of ROAM // Behind Luci's steakhouse Alcohol: They don't serve it, but you can call to confirm that it's still BYOB. Would I be back? Definitely! Tips: Food is cooked at medium spice. You can increase accordingly. (for those without a spice tolerance, medium is not mild)

Yelp
****Reply to owner's comment - I very well know the difference between a kal dosa and an uthappam. Thanks for trying to share your knowledge on the same. Your long and negative comment shows that you are unable to take criticism from a customer. A customer would want their food(especially Indian food) served HOT, not warm! And the Idlies served to me were far worse from being warm! How does a cooked food 'turn out to be warm' by the time it ends up at a table? The path which leads to your restroom had used plates and dishes stacked on either side and anyone who wanted to go through had to squeeze in the space and through a shabby plastic curtain sort of thing! Coming from a South Indian household, I very well know how 'authentic' food is made. You wanted genuine feedback, this is as genuine as it gets.. Your comment clearly shows that you only respect a 5 star review and not anything less than that! Nothing more to add here, but try and learn to accept other reviews too.**** 1. Below-average tasting food 2. Disappointing South Indian ish taste 3. Calming beautiful ambience (only on one half of the restaurant; the rest of the restaurant had a wedding reception kind of seating with no flowers ;) ) 4. Almost forgot, Shabby restroom as well as the path leading to it One and only thing which made me want to visit Nalan was the MENU which sounded like a typical South Indian (Tamil Nadu) restaurant's menu and boy after going there, was I disappointed! I decided to start simple and go with Idlies and sambar. Idly was alright in terms of texture but could have used a little salt and of course, could have been served hot! Sambar tasted bland, more like a Dal fry; red(tomato) chutney was too spicy with no other flavor; white(coconut) chutney was cold and tasted like it's almost about to go stale. When Sambar and chutneys don't impress you at a South Indian menu, it leaves very less interest for you to try anything else. Appam with kurma sounded ecstatic on the menu and I wish it tasted so too. I understand Appam with coconut milk satisfies a sweet tooth, but I don't understand why the Appam in itself was sweet and a little tangy. This, combined with the Kurma full of grinded spices overpowering the Kurma's taste was a big NO-NO for me. The only thing good about this was the cute little copper bucket in which Kurma was served!! My friend ordered kal dosai and it looked & tasted like a normal dosa in a South Indian household and not how a kal dosai should be! A typical Kal dosai should be thick(or so I believe and how I've had eaten for years) throughout while the one served to us was thick on the outside and thin on the inside! Overall, thanks to Nalan for a very meagre dinner!
google avatar

Yelp
So good! The mutton roganjosh was unbelievable. The saag paneer and the Gongura chicken I have had better other places but the Kal dosa chicken curry was yummy and the lamb curry was great! Overall a yummy experience!

Vaishu M.

Yelp
The food here was solid! I came in with my family for lunch at 12pm. The restaurant was empty but filled up quickly - us Desis typically eat late! I had a Dosa. The sambar was a little too spicy for me, but the coconut chutney was nice. The portions of appetizers were big! We ordered the onion pakora and the chicken 65. You definitely get your moneys worth here. I'd recommend coming here.

Yelp
I am a huge foodie and let me tell you it's hard to get Indian food cooked to perfection. Goat biriyani: I expected this biriyani to be better. It was good but it was one of those dishes that looked better than it tasted. The meat was really tender which is what is expected in a biriyani. Nellai chicken: I would give more points to this one. This was a good balance of spicy and a little sweet. The marination was on point(something similar to a chicken 65) but the cashews and the sweetness brought the uniqueness of this dish. The chicken was cooked to perfection. I have it a 3 stars because I was not wowed by this place. It's definitely got a better ambiance and vibe than most Indian restaurants but most of my rating goes to the quality of food. I will keep updating this review when I have more food from here. Stay tuned.

Elena M.

Yelp
If you're just looking to get Indian food it's a good place. But if you're looking for the entire dining experience, this isn't the place. They don't give you ice unless you ask for it. Almost all the food is spicy and you're given room temp water... doesn't make sense. They bring the food out one plate at a time. There was one server who seemed overwhelmed and took a long time to get to everyone. Overall, the food was great. Dining experience...not so much.

Yelp
New restaurant. Ambience is good. Nice menu with some authentic food items from Tamilnadu, a south Indian state. I ordered Nellai chicken and Natu Kodi vepudu biryani, week special. Nellai chicken is very good, chicken is well coated with egg and a spice mixture with curry leaf and cashews. Very tasty and unique. Biryani is like Thalappakatti biriyani like rice with 4 pieces of fried chicken pieces. The rice is very tasty with right spices. The chicken pieces are very crispy and very tasty with blend of spices and rightly marinated, not oily. I liked the various menu items wand will come back to try other items.

Yelp
#nalan Jack was awesome! He jacked us up with some good indian food. No discount however for this review... can you believe this? What kind of establishment does this? Haha just kidding. Appams were good. Get the Mutton Chukkah! Load up on some good food and great company. Chicken 65 and Gobi Machurian was excellent as well. Only complaint - the service could have been more attentive to the water.

Yelp
Since I had a great experience I took my gang of friends to the same place for a Father's Day celebration lunch. We all had a blast, they accommodated 37 of us including kids and never said we ran out of any dish that we ordered. We ordered almost everything in the menu card ! The waiters, owners everyone was so warm. The food was delicious. Nellai chicken is top notch ! We will come back again for sure. A 20% gratuity is certain to be applied. Hope they can give some discounts on big orders / approx $1000

Yelp
Great food, hidden gem in Alpharetta. Service is slow, ambiance is good similar to every Indian restaurant. The food is amazing- appam + goat is a must try. Masala fries is super crispy. Lassi is ok. Biryani is good. Kottu paratha is yum!!!

Raja Y.

Yelp
If you are looking for good Tamil And Kerala food, this is for you. My favorite item is Nellai chicken . My wife always orders Mali kofta. Waiters here are very patient and explains everything in detail. My favorite Indian place to go.

Divyadarsini P.

Yelp
Their appam with coconut milk was too good! We ordered another set after having the first one! saviour for the taste bud! Must try!

Yelp
Best Indian restaurant. It's better than many Indian restaurants in India. The place is clean. Staff is kind. The owner is awesome. Unique menu that you won't find anywhere else. Good Mande extremely well. I'd give 6 stars for this restaurant. I'm docking one star because the restrooms can be better. It's not bad but can be cleaner.

Yelp
Simple casual dine in. Walked in and waited for someone to come upfront and greet us. We ordered veg and non-veg entrees. Food was a little to sweet for our tasting, considering we ordered medium spice and hot spice level. Not an authentic Indian restaurant in my opinion. Only one server for a restaurant that was 60% full capacity. Server forgot to serve our table water and drinks. The lamb vindaloo was not the best, quite chewy and could get the raw lamb smell. They are busy for takeout.

Big B.

Yelp
Quality of food is very bad. Everything we ordered seems made a day before or before. No words to elaborate food experience. in Short, Not edible food at all. We had good experience in past( during Covid) when they opened. But now business seems well set so owner doesn't care about customer. Upon exiting I mentioned to owner about food quality too bad compare to we experienced in past. Clearly not care to hear about feedback. Busy owner. If owner doesn't care, should we ? Would not give chance again to NALAN. Done for us!

Yelp
Excellent Indian food. Their Appams are our favorite and so are the biriyanis. Wide variety of options especially on weekends. Must try.

Yelp
So I'm being harsh with a one star in hopes they will see this review. I've been eating here almost a year and this was the best Indian cuisine around. I literally ate here once a week. Unfortunately, they changed my favorite dish recently (like over the past month) chicken tikka masala. I have spoken with them and they insist it's the same but my fam and friends eat here as well and agree with me. The sauce is watery and not as flavorful at all. They are putting less chicken in as well. I understand inflation but that is why your prices are high. Don't go cheap on the food as well. I loved loved loved their food and now I don't even want to eat here anymore. Please Nalan stop skimping and make the food the way you used to.
google avatar

Ash B.

Yelp
The restaurant had one person when we arrived and one server. The butter chicken was decent the sambusa was awful with peas. They serve warm water and I got nauseous. The establishment started to pickup with patrons but still only one waiter. This place is near my job but I won't return. The garlic naan was decent and the plate on the table had food stuck to them. I mean if you like eating someone else's leftovers give it a try.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
This is all about the food. The space they are in is nothing special, the Food is. We had four different dishes and they were all excellent. I urge you to give them a try. Most entrées are 12 to 15 bucks..

Priscilla S.

Yelp
Nalan serves the best Indian food ever! My favorite is Chicken Tiki Marsala. The sauce is flavored perfectly with spices. The servers are courteous and helpful when describing a dish I'm unfamiliar with. There are two separate dining rooms. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Best Indian food in North Atlanta, Alpharetta! Foodie here! Expect OK personable interaction. Imagine an IT guy serving u food. Well that's the tone with their service but FOOD is excellent. Actually FOOD is mind blowing delish excellent!!! I get apaam with cheese, butter chicken, lentil and dosa with extra red onion! Chicken 65 is too dry! Lollipop chicken is perfect!! I wash all this down with a nice Lassi, and I've gotten my Indian fix for a few weeks! Food tastes like grandmas slow cooked meals! Presentation is outstanding! Food to go is fast and packaged perfectly! The only downfall are the workers are so stressed cause almost everyone is so cheap to tip. NOT me tho and maybe a few others! They deserve abundance! Tip is at least 15%-20%, NOT $5!!!! This is Alpharetta for goodness sakes folks! Note, it's mostly Indians eating here in their wedding clothes! Meaning it's a special place! If their culture is devouring the food, u know it's good! One time I saw a guy eating with his hands in the car!! He couldn't even make it home to eat, it smells so darn divine! I gave him a thumbs up, cause I almost did the same one time too! No pics sorry!!! I go straight to eating!

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by this new Indian restaurant after the gym and ordered takeout. It took about 35 minutes for the food to be ready, so I would advise calling to order pickup! I also didn't get a receipt for my order so I'm not sure how much each thing cost. I got the samosas, garlic naan, chicken tikka masala and mango lassi. I would recommend the restaurant taping over the mango lassi cup (like they do in other places) to avoid spillage. It was super delicious though! The chicken tikka masala was very good and the chicken was well marinated. It did NOT come with rice, so please be aware! I guess you have to order rice separately? I wish I had known that beforehand because most Indian restaurants give you rice with the entrees. The sauce was perfect and tasted super complicated. The samosas are perfect - highly recommend getting these! It comes with two and each is filled with delicious spiced potatoes and peas. The Garlic naan was pretty good as well, albeit a little soggy, but I just heated it up in the oven for a few minutes!

Yelp
Could be five stars but the portion of food for the hefty price they charge is very little. Very nice ambiance and great service. Love to see the food portions grow.

Yelp
Been here for eat in and take out a few times. Very good food. Caters to those who know their Indian food because the menu gives no descriptions or photos but I tried a few things outside my norm and it was all very good!

Yelp
Went here for the first time this Sunday for lunch, and we enjoyed everything we ordered! Our server recommended the Chicken 65 to start - the chicken was tender, had great flavor, and had a nice crisp on the outside. For the entrees, we split the ambur chicken biriyani + kal dosa with goat curry. The biriyani was very flavorful and came with a lot of chicken. The curry for the kal dosa came in a fun container + the kal dosa tasted great with the chopped red onion in the fold. We are already looking forward to trying new things on the menu next time we're back in the area!

Yelp
Had an incredible feast here. Started with chili fish, gunpowder idli, then paratha and Murphy medhi for the main course. The rose milk was surprisingly inspiring, and the gulab jamun for dessert is the best I've ever had (made in house). The gulab jamun was super tender and spongy, while still holding its shape. Very impressive.

Yelp
I eat Indian often, it's usually a predictable flavor explosion, so I was expecting spicy, but OMG this place got the hot on level 2.7million, satans forehead is less hot, so yeah, burn my mouth and sauté my tongue in that Diablo goodness. The location is dumpy and the ambiance subzero, but who cares, the spices got me fired up.

Yelp
I ordered king fish fry, chicken 65, thalapakatty biriyani. Fish was very old and smelly, chicken was good, biriyani had no salt and they didn't have goat biriyani on a Sunday lunch.

Yelp
Everything was so good!! We absolutely embarrassed ourselves with how much we ate. It was quiet when we first arrived, but quickly filled up. It was well worth the 45 minute drive.

Yelp
Below par service. The server forgot about us - vanished after taking the order. We ordered Nellai Chicken and Mirapakaya Chicken - both weren't bad..but nothing to talk about. We also ordered Appam with Chicken Curry and Nalan Chicken Special. Both had exactly the same sauce and flavor. Appams were good. We ordered the Ambur Chicken Biryani. It was served after we finished our dinner. Nobody checked on us...we got the to-go containers also after a long time.

Yelp
I get the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan from here all the time and every time I enjoy it. I love this place!

Yelp
Didn't find anything special in this place to come back again. Dishes had good indian flavors but contained mostly sauce and very little meat.

Yelp
Very good atmosphere and delicious Indian cuisine. The Vindaloo Chicken was spicy and flavorful and the naan was cooked perfectly.

Yelp
just now Tl;dr - Absolutely amazing authentic south-indian food. Give this restaurant your business. You will not regret it. Let me preface this by saying that I'm very lazy and extremely picky when it comes to Indian food. So, for me to get my ass off the couch and write a review for a restaurant says a lot. Let me also get this (might be an unpopular opinion) out of the way - I consider indian cuisine to be the pinnacle/mother/grandfather of all other cuisines to ever exist. I make it my life's ambition to try every Indian restaurant when I move to a new city. So when someone suggested Nalan to me, I was extremely skeptical and did not go in with any sort of expectations. Like you, I've had my share of duds with recommendations. But oh boy, let me tell you, their food changed my life. It's authentic. No, seriously! IT'S AUTHENTIC! THEIR FOOD SCREAMS AUTHENTICITY. Okay, I'll stop. Every morsel reminded me of home. Each one of their dishes was spiced JUST right. Just like the food back home. Every single thing we ordered was delicious. Seriously, everything. Even the condiments like your basic chutney. Their portion sizes are great too. Very generous for the amount of money you pay. I'm married to a Malayali and she's all about the appam life. Nalan's appams were divine. Get it with either the veg. kurma or chicken curry. You can't go wrong with either. We also tried the kozhi vepudu and the gobi 65. How was it? You guessed it! Delicious! It invokes nostalgia. Memories of all the street vendors and from back home. Uff! I've also tried their kal dosas. That's right. Delish! I'm a Hyderabadi and obviously all about the biryani life. I usually only get biryani from your usual specialty-we specialize-in-biryani kind of restaurants. I never end up liking biryani from any other place. Ever. Tonight, that changed. I ordered biryani from here on a whim and jesus christ, THAT WAS GOOD TOO! No, wait .. it was GREAT! What in the bloody hell? Who is(are) this(these) chef(s)? He/she needs a goddamn raise. This is one restaurant I will religiously recommend to people going forward. If you've gotten this far and are still reading this, please give your business and hard earned monies to this restaurant. It's 100% worth it. Nalan, you've earned my loyalty. I will be ordering again .. next week .. and the week again .. and .. Disclaimer - I know that everyone's palate is different and taste is extremely subjective. This is just my opinion.

Yelp
This Indian restaurant serves a variety of foods from different parts of India. I would highly recommend the filter coffee and the Kozhi vappudu (spicy fried chicken)! The Appam and Idiyappam were delicious and the chicken curry was excellent!

Yelp
I tired their take take out and like it so much. We decided to dine in. Food was delicious. We got Madurai Malli chicken, kozi vepudu, kadai paneer and Ambur chicken biryani. Everything was excellent. I love their appetizers each one is unique and has distinct flavors. My wife loved the kadai paneer. Ambur chicken biryani was good too. Definitely will come back.

Yelp
Loved the food. Kal dosa is outstanding. Gongura chicken is excellent. No question It is top of my list restaurant. I ate most of the popular Indian restaurants in this country, this is in the top 5 list undoubtedly best in Atlanta. My suggestion is for appetizers. Make it tapas-style smaller plates and a little less price so the non-Indians or even Indians can try different ones.
