Nanami Sushi Diner & Onigiri

Nanami is hands-down the best sushi experience in New Orleans. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm and inviting. Cozy enough for a date night but lively enough for a dinner with friends. The fish is incredibly fresh, each piece passionately prepared with care and skill. I also love that Chef Yuwa brings fish to his menu that you never really see or got a chance to eat in other sushi restaurants in the city, such as the Barracuda or Bonito nigiri. (Even the Kabocha tempura was surprising!) Service is another standout. The staff is friendly and attentive. They’re great at guiding you through the menu if you want recommendations, and everything arrives promptly without ever feeling rushed. Whether you’re a purist or someone who wants a unique sushi experience, Nanami delivers from start to finish. Truly the newest gem to be added to the eclectic collection of New Orleans cuisine.

Fantastic new sushi restaurant on Magazine. Food is incredibly fresh, and staff are amazing. Strongly recommend the crispy tuna rice appetizer along with the yellowtail crudo. Handrolls are all the rage right now and their yellowtail/jalapeño and spicy tuna ones were fantastic. For rolls, we had the firefly roll which was incredible. We will make this one part of our regular routine!

As a lover of sushi & good environment I 10/10 recommend. Magazine needed a nice cozy and fresh sushi spot like this one. The Japanese Karaage Chicken (if you love fried chicken) is a must, the freshly handmade Gyoza is comforting and delicious (made by an incredible Japanese lady in the back) a perfect bite, and the Crispy Tuna Rice in an absolute win. The fish used in your sushi not only tastes fresh but it absolutely melts in your mouth, you’ll love it. I’d recommend some but just give different ones a shot according to your palate (or the chefs’), you won’t be disappointed (try the scallop.) This Japanese gem of restaurant uptown is exactly what our city needed. My nieces and I had a great time.

I've had Japanese food in New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas and Hands down Nanami on Magazine is better than any of them. Nice cozy place and an extremely friendly staff

Excellent!! Small and quaint but great menu!! Food and service were wonderful!! Could eat here everyday!! We tried a few items! Sweet Chicken Soy, Plum and Spicy Mayo Onigiri…all were delicious. Definitely recommend the Miso Yummy Roll !! Tuna Kobachi was fresh and flavorful! Can’t wait to come back!

10/10. I’ve tried just about all the sushi New Orleans has to offer and Nanami comes out on top. The best, exotic fish prepared by someone with a deft hand. Chefs who take pride and have respect for what they do. Unbelievable service. Cannot recommend this place enough. My favorite sushi restaurant in the state. You need to go.

Nanami's is the perfect immersion of Japanese food. The fish was so fresh. We were told the owner picks up the fish everyday from the airport. I was thoroughly impressed with the level of prep and presentation. Everything was delicious. I recommend the peppers! If the food isn't motivation enough to visit, the service is beyond impeccable. The attention to detail and hospitality was one of the best I've ever had. Not to mention it is BYOB! I will recommend Nanami's to all my girlfriends for a fun Girls Night Out!

I've been for lunch and for dinner; both times were absolutely delicious and delightful! Service is always A+ and all staff were so attentive and nice about answering any question. Both times I sat at the bar and the chef/owner would periodically ask how things were going with a smile. This place is currently BYOB and I wish I brought sake to toast the wonderful chef! (Pictures are only of dinner) We started off with the shishito peppers and eggplant dip. Peppers were not as spicy as I hoped (I typically love the burn!), but the ponzu sauce and bonito were nice tangy, salty additions to the peppers. The eggplant dip was surprisingly light with a sweet/salty taste. Lovely soft texture with a nice airy crunch from the rice paper chips. We came towards the end of the night, so the tuna cripy rice was actually topped off with salmon. Outer rice was chewy but soft on the inside as was the salmon. It's more on the sweet side since it's topped with eel sauce; personally I would rather a ponzu based sauce since the overall texture was soft but it was still delicious. For the raw items, we got toro sushi, Hokkaido uni sushi, and amberjack crudo. The crudo is a MUST! That herbaceous oil, the two-day aged fish, the fresh tomatoes! Highlight of the meal! The toro was buttery, fatty, topped with wasabi-green onion (just the rigth of wasabi to cut balance the richness). We also got the Earl Gray teacake, which the server told us is made in-house! The tea flavor is strong and you can even see the specks of tea in the cake. A lovely, fragrant end to a delicous meal!

The lunch bento special is such a good set I got the onigiri bento and wow!!!! The onigiri had a generous amount of filling where every bite had a perfect balance of filling to rice. It's very cool to see ume because it's so traditional with onigiri but I've never seen it before. It's so salty and sour it makes your mouth water in the best way. I got the gyoza option for the bento and the gyoza are juicy with a thin skin w a BEAUTIFUL crisp to them. The set also comes with miso soup and a lot of small portions of things, like edamame, Okinawan egg omelet, seaweed salad and pickles. It's a filling meal made with care for a very good price. The service is attentive and welcoming and the decor is very calming, lot of natural wood tones and natural light. I bet it's very chic at night. I will be hounding my friends to come try the omakase with me soon.

This was the best sushi I've had in NOLA lately. I stopped by for lunch one day and tried some hand rolls and a sushi roll. All of it was really fresh and delicious fish. The service was pretty slow though, so maybe don't plan it for a quick in and out lunch. More to savor it.

This cute neighborhood spot is adorable and has charming service. The staff is very meticulous and caring and the food was delicious. They do not have a full liquor license yet so you can BYOB and they definitely provide glassware.

I was really excited to try this place. It's in a great spot on magazine street. It's small, but a nice space. It's currently BYOB, I'm sure they're working on their liquor license since they're still new. Our waiter was attentive. The spicy edamame was true to its name and really spicy but so addictive. The fried chicken appetizer had a nice crunch. The sushi was fresh and delicious. However, it just felt like a small menu with pricey rolls that I'm not sure were anything that wowed me. I'm picky when it comes to sushi and the firefly roll didn't feel 20 dollars worth it to me, as it was nothing spectacular. However, overall it was a good evening with good food.

Amazing, more traditional japanese food that was 10/10. Pics below, I got the karaage chicken for an appetizer which was really good & a decent portion size! I then got the crab and avocado handroll, which was amazing! Next time will probably get a variety of handrolls because of how good it was! Pricing was fair for the amount of food you get. Service was good. The restaurant itself is cute but nothing super special. The food definitely makes up for it though. Note: it was BYOB when I went a couple weeks ago due to their liquor license still pending.

Food was excellent. Service very nice. Only drawback was noise. They could use some sound-absorbing panels on wall/ceiling.

Amazing! I'm really upset about how delicious every bite was because I now I feel like I will have to keep coming back for more. The sashimi is euphoric. The family that runs the place is amazingly friendly and you can taste the love and creativity in every bite. The servers are attentive and I have no idea how they remember all of these rotations. Who knew that there could be such an art to slicing fish to perfection with just the right balances of sweet and salty. The scallop was divine. I really liked the saltiness with the red snapper and the amberjack with touch of a sweet sauce. I have no idea if they are there all the time because we did the Nanami Omakase which is the chefs choice.

I had a great experience here. Very good nigiri. Excellent crispy rice and tuna appetizer. Great relishes and the rice consistency and fish quality seems very good. The chef also personally greeted me. They nailed the food and the hospitality.

New sushi place with great food, ambience and service. All in all a most congenial experience.

Amazing service. Amazing atmosphere. Very small and cozy and one of the best, if not the best sushi spot I have found in Louisiana. The owner was great and he makes the sushi right at the bar and every dish is phenomena. 10/10 would recommend for anybody looking for some authentic sushi.

Really excited about this new sushi and omakase spot that just opened. We went during their soft opening so the menu was pretty light. We tried the miso soup, spicy garlic edamame, crispy tuna rice and a couple of sushi rolls. Everything was very fresh and delicious. I can't wait to go back for omakase!

Ever wonder what the best sushi tastes and presents like? This is it! I'd say best in NOLA but that is not a standard that tells you just how good this place is. This is the best I've ever experienced. Even the iced tea is exceptional. Also their Bento Boxes support non-fish eaters. Sweet people and great feel: relaxed.

The food was decent but ultimately I think this place is way overpriced unfortunately. I absolutely love handrolls and have had way more better tasting and affordable ones in both New York and Los Angeles. This is New Orleans! The setting is also not conducive to the prices they are charging-- it's a very harshly lit space that feels more like a to go place than one where you can order a $111 omakase meal. I'd more recommend Yakuza House or Bisutoro for handrolls and exciting sushi in the city.

Cute little hole in the wall! The restaurant itself is very tiny and the menu is a bit small (and very pricey) but the overall food was amazing! I liked the ambiance and setting interior, but the seating was very close together. The rolls was super delicious and packed with soooo much flavor, no extra sauce needed. Their fish is very fresh and doesn't taste fishy at all. Though, I don't think I can justify $6-8 for one piece of salmon nigiri. The service was very attentive and was super quick with my drink refills, my drink never went past half a cup. I will definitely be back to try the omakase to get a more expanded taste!!

Nanami is a wonderful additional to my list of favorite restaurants in NOLA. I went here for a date night and it was such a good experience. Although we didn't have a reservation, the waitstaff were very accommodating and ended up seating us within a few minutes. The restaurant is small but intimate and the wait staff were some of the nicest I've met. On top of that, the food was absolutely amazing and we enjoyed every bite. We got the shishito peppers, crispy tuna rice, and a few of the hand rolls to try. All of the fish was extremely fresh and came out in a timely manner. Would definitely come back here again for a nice evening.

Went into Nanami for lunch today. The handheld was delicious and well priced. The Crispy rise with tuna was amazing. No alcohol license yet but still would return. Service was efficient and friendly, staff very enthusiastic, chefs awesome.

We went for the Omasake, and what a treat! The Chef outdid himself, every dish delicious in its own way - will definitely will be back for more!

My friend and I went there last night to try out this new neighborhood spot! It was EXCELLENT. Best sushi I have had in NOLA. The fish is really allowed to shine. The waitstaff were friendly and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Highly recommend!!!

Just got back from Japan and food is just as fresh! Fish melted in your mouth. Small place but once on the waitlist we got our table quickly. Busy atmosphere but wait staff and chefs worked well together. Will be back!

I went with a pal and got some of the hand rolls right before close. The hand rolls were excellent and the karage came with lemon and kewpie mayo.

Excellent. Delicious food. Attentive service. Definitely one of the best sushi spots in New Orleans.
