Pandemic Pop-Up Nardello’s Fresh Pasta Nabs a Permanent Spot in the Mission - Eater SF

"Nardello’s Fresh Pasta began as a way to pay the bills after the pandemic shut down Joe Nardo's day job. He opened a small brick-and-mortar workshop in the Mission where passersby can see hand-crafted pasta and pick up orders. The workshop is located at the 18th Street tip of ActivSpace, a mixed-use building. Initially, the pasta was made in a spare bedroom, but with increasing demand, Nardo moved to a dedicated space and launched a Kickstarter to fully establish the business. One of my favorite new businesses that came out of covid-19. As of this writing, it’s currently a business that sells fantastic homemade pasta, but has future plans to expand to so much more. I first learned about them in an online article about chefs who started their own businesses when the restaurants they were working for had to shut down. Chefs Joe and Will both used to work at Lazy Bear and other renowned restaurants so they’ve got a ton of experience. Italian is hubby’s favorite cuisine so I’m always on the hunt for great ingredients to keep him well fed. The descriptions of pastas and the pictures on their website had me hooked - sweet potato agnolotti, red beet and lemon ricotta tortellini, bucatini, garganelli, etc. and my all time favorite - egg yolk ravioli. Ordering from their website is easy. Since the egg yolk ravioli is delicate and needs to be cooked within 24 hours, I had to pick up from the Outer Rich when they first started. Now they have a better location in the Mission. For all other pastas, you can have it shipped to you. The egg yolk ravioli turns into a decadent dish in minutes as it doesn’t take long to cook. I served it in some browned butter with fried sage and parmesan that took less than 10 minutes to do. Nardello’s did the hard part. I made the rookie mistake of only ordering one ravioli per person and was so sad when it was gone. The other pastas we ordered were also really good. It makes turning out a great meal at home so much easier because you can keep the dish simple and let the pasta shine.
