Narru - Review - Centro - San Sebastián - The Infatuation

"The outdoor setup at Narru is exactly where you want to be in the nicer months: under the column-lined arcade looking out on the Buen Pastor cathedral, eating seasonal and simple-but-well-executed dishes, and among a buzzy crowd where all the locals go to see and be seen on the weekends. Even if the phrase “cod chin” feels like an oddly specific insult, don’t let that prevent you from trying some of the city’s best kokotxas, served in three styles: sauced, battered, and pil pil. The highlights of the menu are when they let the fancy ingredients shine, so try the oysters topped with an apple vinaigrette and the oxtail ravioli served with foie gras and shaved black truffle." - Marti Buckley

10/10 if you are looking for something more upmarket. The food was super fresh and well cooked. I would highly recommend the tomato salad which had the nicest olive oil. The red bream was also one of the best dishes I’ve had.

Amazingly good, easily worthy of a Michelin star. Congratulations to the chef for the excellent pairing of ingredients. Nothing too whacky on the menu, but just the right level of creativity and thoughtful presentation. We had the 8 course tasting menu, with fish and meat mains being full sized portions (so much more than a “taste”). Wine list contained many delicious and reasonably priced Spanish wines. Staff were lovely too. Atmos gets 3 stars only because of the room layout which was restricted presumably due to the building’s age. All in all a fantastic experience, would highly recommend.

Narru completely exceeded our expectations — from the ambiance to the exceptional service, everything was spot on. But the real star of the evening was the grilled turbot. Cooked to absolute perfection over an open flame, the fish was moist, flaky, and rich in flavor, with a beautiful smoky char that enhanced its natural taste. You could tell the kitchen respects the ingredient — no unnecessary sauces or distractions, just honest, high-quality seafood at its finest. The turbot was easily one of the best we've ever had, rivaling even Michelin-starred spots in the area. The texture was buttery and tender, and the skin crisped just right. It's clear why this is their signature dish — if you're coming to Narru, do not leave without trying the turbot. The wine list was thoughtful and well-curated, and the staff helped us select a perfect white from Getaria to pair with our meal. Every detail felt considered, yet nothing was pretentious. Whether you're a serious foodie or just looking for a memorable dinner in San Sebastián, Narru is a must-visit. We’ll be back — and we’ll be ordering the turbot again.

Google
truly delivered an exceptional dining experience. The cuisine was simply outstanding, showcasing incredible quality and a masterful approach to local, seasonal ingredients – a perfect 5/5. Just as impressive was the service, which was attentive, professional, and genuinely warm throughout the meal. A perfect 5/5 across the board and a meal to remember!

Food was unreal - every single dish was SO good!!! Highly recommend the tuna belly and the chicken wings (unexpectedly) and the lemon and corn dessert. Reviews don’t do this place justice. Not a Michelin star because not as formal, but still great service!

Centrally located near San Sebastián Cathedral and inside one of the coolest hotels in the city (Arbaso) is this great Basque cuisine restaurant. Very genuine and using top quality ingredients with modern touches. Everything in the menu is excellent, seafood, fish, meats and vegetables as well as seasonal specials. Great desserts too. A must in the city. Two options: the formal restaurant or the bar area (personally prefer the menu at the bar area as it contains same items as the restaurant and additional nice informal tapas like croquetas). Good selection of wines and cocktails. Service is correct although a bit dry at first. 2025 Update: service has improved very positively. Food continues to be excellent. A small disappointment was the old tuna tiradito (now called ventresca) because the portion size has decreased from 10 to 6 slices while price is the same or higher.

Wow! An incredible fine dining experience from start to finish. Enjoy every single course, and have wonderful conversation with your dining mates (in this case my wife). Prepare for a culinary extravaganza.

Had a great dinner at Narru in San Sebastián with my wife and son. The tomahawk steak was juicy and perfectly grilled, and the ravioli was fresh and flavorful. Warm atmosphere, professional service—definitely worth a visit.
