Naru is one of the most overhyped restaurants in Bangalore, and after finally managing to get a reservation (booked on a strict Monday at 8 PM just to get a Saturday afternoon slot), we walked in with high expectations. What we got was an utterly disappointing and forgettable experience.
We ordered the Tokyo Style Shoyu Ramen (Pork - Regular), Chicken Karaage (Wasabi Honey), Avocado Temaki, and two Kombuchas (Not Bacon & Peach). The ramen, which should have been the highlight, was bland and uninspiring. The broth lacked any depth of flavor, the noodles were far too firm, and the pork was poorly cooked—chewy and unappetizing. It was nowhere near the level of a proper ramen experience, especially considering the hype.
The karaage was average at best, lacking the crispiness and punch you’d expect from a good fried chicken dish. The avocado temaki was even worse—a tiny taco-shaped sushi that felt like a sad excuse for innovation. It was flavorless, dry, and honestly, a waste of money.
Then came the drinks, which were absolutely terrible. The Not Bacon Kombucha tasted like straight-up bacon grease in liquid form (and not in a good way), while the Peach Kombucha was sour, off-putting, and completely unenjoyable. None of these drinks complemented the food in any way, making us regret ordering them.
To top it all off, the service was cold and impersonal. Even though we were seated at the counter, there was zero engagement from the staff. Worse still, they had the audacity to ask me to move seats just because a solo diner wanted to sit at the kitchen counter. Having made a prior booking, this request was ridiculous, and I refused.
Overall, Naru is nothing more than a glorified social media hype trap. The food is mediocre, the drinks are downright awful, the service is uninspired, and the entire experience is not worth the hassle. Bangalore has far better ramen and Asian cuisine options that actually deliver on flavor and quality.
Save your time, money, and expectations—this place is NOT worth it. Avoid.
