What to Eat and Drink on a Day Trip From Seattle to Vashon Island | Eater Seattle

"A pear-and-apple cidery offering tastings (weekends, or weekdays by reservation) in a sleek environment; owners Jim Gerlach and Cheryl Lubbert became cider-makers by happenstance after buying a Japanese-style house with a 300-tree orchard in poor condition on Vashon in 2005, and after much TLC and learning the business from scratch they began selling cider in 2013." - Sharon McDonnell

Amazing ciders, enjoyed them all. Korean giant pear is my favorite

Google
Went today for a cider & perry tasting. Great service, loved all the outdoor seating, and the drinks were delicious!

Google
I liked all the products made by Korean pear. However, I felt bizarre seeing the Korean pear products have a Japanese name. Korea was a brutal colonial rule by Japan, only 80 years ago. Wish there were more considered with history.

Google
Perfect spot for cider tasting! Beautiful bright indoor area and a flight is only $15. Plenty of outdoor seating and they even have blankets you can use to sit on the lawn. They have a non-alcoholic menu as well, great for kids. Had three goats in a pen next to the outdoor seating area where you could walk up and pet them. This is a great spot for both families, groups and couples!

I noticed the D'Anjou Sparkling Perry listed in the Non-Alcoholic Menu at Ruby Brinks and saw the bottles in a fridge at the Vashon Coffee Roasterie. When Nashi Orchards showed up on Google search results, we decided to visit the Tasting Room. We noticed lots of cars in the parking lot, and the outside tables were mostly full. The interior of the building was very spacious and pleasant. The building apparently belonged to an accomplished Vashon sculptor before Nashi took it over. The bookshelf is still full of the kind of books that an artistic sculptor would have. Since I was interested in non-alcoholic drinks, we tried both the D'Anjou Non-Alcoholic Perry and the Korean Giant Non-Alcoholic Perry. The Korean one won and we bought six bottles. We Also bought a serving of the 4 year Royal Cider and the Korean Giant just for fun. I was surprised how many people come into the tasting room to get free refills as they try each of the cider. I even saw a couple of families with their own crackers and snacks and cards. For the amount of liquid that goes into the glasses, the wineries I am familiar with would have charged a tasting fee. I hope the Tasting Room sells enough product to make their business viable as I really like the Korean Giant Perry.

We are members and love the perry and ciders. Their tasting room is an oasis and a must stop if in the area. The wildlife is worth the stop too!

Google
Beautiful space and Haley does a fabulous job serving and describing the ciders offered!

Google
Absolutely fantastic experience - both alcoholic and nonalcoholic tasting menus. The Perry is delicious as is their ciders. We usually don’t buy bottles after tastings, but we left with two - they were that good! Really beautiful interior space, friendly service, and large patio and lawn with firepit for outdoor seating. Dog-friendly and perfect for catching up with friends. Highly recommend! We will probably make the trip to Vashon just for this tasting room!

Yelp
Such a cute cidery and a delicious flight of ciders to try! These ones taste more natural and super tasty! The atmosphere is super cute and very welcoming! They have an indoor area as well as outdoor patio! Very relaxing! Service was great! Highly recommend

Yelp
Nashi Orchards is local to Vashon Island. The have tasting room and a coffee shop on the grounds! They have a vines growing on one side of the tasting room and a lovely patio and lawn where you can enjoy your cider! The tasting room was bright and modern and the cider experts that led the tasting were knowledgeable and friendly! They made what could have be mundane, fun! I came on a sunny day and sat on the patio! I had a view of the lawn and the vines! This made Nashi accessible to families with littles and pets! This has to be a stop on your Vashon Island day or weekend trip! I also love that it is a locally owned and operated business!

Yelp
I love this pear orchard in the middle of vashon island! All their drinks are super delicious, their space is super cozy, and all the people there are very knowledgeable. I've tried their alcoholic tasting menu in the past, which is good, but since I was driving this time, I got the non-alcoholic tasting menu which was equally as amazing. You can really taste the original flavors of the fruit. I couldn't recommend this little cidery more. It's a wonderful little hangout spot with an outdoor area that's amazing for sunbathing in the summer and chilling by the fire pit in the winter. The indoor space is also super inviting and airy. Just a super cute place to chill for a couple hours.

Yelp
Great place to stop on Vashon for some yummy cider. A friend and I stopped here today. I tried the flight and was surprised by how good these ciders are. They're on the dry side (they don't add any sugar), each one was different and had a unique flavor. The woman pouring the ciders was very knowledgeable and super friendly. They have Japanese snacks available for purchase. I wished I would have known about this place when I lived in Washington!

Yelp
This cidery specializes in perries, which are ciders made from pears. They have some apple options too, but the perries are usually the stars of the show. I suggest doing the tasting menu. They have both alcoholic and NA options for tastings. What they sell is not cheap but is definitely high quality The one slight complaint I have, which is probably not within the control of the ownership (hence still 5 stars) is that this establishment seems to be later on the itinerary of many people's tasting tours on vashon, probably because it specializes in perries/ciders. Consequently, you get a handful of...very drunk...people showing up mid afternoon. Drunk as in, "you may be pulling up in an Escalade but tbh should you even be driving?!" I mainly noticed this in the context of having been here both with a group of people and as an individual (female). When alone, it seems that I attract a lot more ...unsolicited... comments from other patrons. I don't know a ton about tasting culture, so I have no idea if this is just something to be expected at 3pm on a weekend or if it's unusual. Just something that I noticed and seems worth mentioning so that others can be aware. All that said, I'm sure that perries are a niche market, so I understand that the establishment needs to not alienate any potential customers. They have a bit of indoor seating (lots of standing space) plus covered and uncovered outdoor tables and a fire pit. There are also sheep on the property! It's a very pleasant atmosphere. Overall, this is a nice place to stop for a drink outside the main shops-and-restaurants part of vashon.

Yelp
I love this place. Tucked near uptown the grounds are very peaceful. A few small farm animals are in corrals. Nothing is contrived. It is very authentic. The service provers are really kind and super knowledgeable. It is evident they are invested and excited about their offerings. There is no pushing of products. Just a great educational experience. The cider itself is probably the best I've ever had. The spectrum of tastes from the different offerings is broad and is always changing. I never fail to drop by whenever I'm on the island. Check the hours before you go as I am uncertain what those are.

Yelp
Such a lovely place to be and a must to add on to your Vashon island itinerary. We brought our 2 daughters and my parents who were visiting from Hawaii. Very welcoming venue with impressively knowledgeable, warm, and extremely kind staff. We let our oldest daughter have her own non-alcoholic tasting, which she enjoyed. Parents shared a tasting glass & hubby and I shared a tasting glass of their ciders. Ambiance was cute and cozy, & very relaxing! We stayed outdoors where they even provided blankets to keep us warm under the heaters. The kiddos played around the sheep, as the adults relaxed. We left with a bottle of Korean Giant Perry, Belladona Cider, and their Royal Perry! Lovely place, we'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Great place to learn about cider, and what is happening in the cider world. Their thing is no-added sugars. I like that. Tasting flite is well worth it, and the server was very knowledgeable of their product. I learned alot and have a new appreciation for cider products. Fun time on our day-trip to Vashon.

Yelp
They have indoor & outdoor seating at this orchard. They have five 2oz pours of cider available for $15 and have indoor and outdoor seating available. It's worth a stop at Vashon! Their food menu is limited to just 3 snacks.

Yelp
Peaceful, lovely facility and definitely worth the visit when on Vashon Island. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. We shared an alcoholic perry & cider tasting ($15 for 5) , and a non alcoholic juice flight ($10 for 3). The host of the day was very pleasant and informative. The grounds were clean and appealing. The flights were interesting. We loved most of the drink offerings. Only note; the actual orchards are not here where tastings are offered. They are on the south end of Vashon.

Yelp
This was one of the main reasons I wanted to check out Vashon Island. We'd bought a perry cider (from Beer Junction) so checking out Nashi Orchards was a no brainer. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 12:15pm). The tasting room is outside with a couple bear-dogs roaming around. Cider tastings are $10.00 US/person. Tasting fee is NOT waived if you buy bottles, which is a first. Bottles range in between $25.00 US to $31.50 US or else you can purchase a 4-pack for $27.50 US. We shared a tasting. - Chojuro blend perry - this is the perry we tried previously and turns out, it's still our favourite of their offerings. Smooth, slightly sweet and refreshing. - Hosui Asian pear perry - this one had a dry finish. Didn't love it. - Issho-ni - a mix of 30 different apples from the island that was donated to them. More of a traditional, dry cider. - "White hart" - on draft and barrel aged in gin. B could smell peppercorns; you can taste the juniper notes. - Royal - smooth and similar to a brandy but much more drinkable/approachable. Would be good on ice. Really wanted to love Nashi Orchards but it's not a must visit.

Yelp
I believe I tried to go to Nashi Orchards once before which was their old location and never did find it. Nashi then acquired a new location which definitely proved to be easier to find. The tasting room is on an acreage and is instantly infectious and inviting as we saw some sheep that came over and up to fence in which we could marvel at them and give them attention in which they loved. After making over our four legged greeters we went inside the tasting room to proceed with trying some cider. The tasting room is great, it has very relaxed seating and clean, sleek atmosphere which I really liked. Steve and I had some difficulty in trying to determine what cider we wanted so we got taster flights to start out with. We loved Chojuro Perry and the Idyllic Acres. All of the other cider we tried was excellent and we got a glass of cider a piece after the flights we enjoyed it so much. The staff here is awesome as they are extremely knowledgeable about each cider that they have and are great at keeping other casual conversation at a good flow and enjoyable. I definitely recommend giving Nashi Orchards a try when visiting Vashon Island.

Yelp
My parents frequent this aesthetic little cidery for a tasting on the weekends. It makes sense because the cider perfectly matches the venue, it's artfully made with a range of local produce and the perfect balance of barely-sweet. The entire experience is thoughtful and definitely worth including on a Vashon itinerary.

Yelp
The cutest little family-owned cidery- definitely worth a visit if you're on Vashon. The space is beautiful and peaceful; it is family and pet friendly and they have sheep on the property that they let roam around sometimes. We made reservations but I think they accept walk-ins if they have the space available. The staff are so inviting and knowledgeable, when you want to order you just go inside to the counter so the process is simple and quick. They don't serve any food but you are allowed to bring your own so it's a great space to have a picnic. I've never really liked ciders because the commercially available ones tend to give me a headache with all of the added sugar, but I didn't have any issues with these. They also have nonalcoholic cider tastings for those who don't drink, or for the children.. Although the venue is smaller than Dragon Head's, which is just down the road, this place has much better service and atmosphere.

Yelp
Amazing tasting for the price! David was very hospitable and made us feel comfortable for us first timers.

Alison D.

Yelp
I tried a little of each, and they all were good! It is a nice place to relax, too. We sat outside at a table. There is limited room inside, but it's available if the weather is nasty.

Yelp
We had the best time! We loved the tasting flight and the variety of ciders and perry! Jim and his wife were kind and were so welcoming to show their land. Definitely would recommend.

Yelp
New venue and same great apple and pear cider. They are the most innovative hard cider and Perry makers that I've met. Vashon Island is now an annual destination for us whenever we come to Seattle, and it's because of the Gerlach's. Jim holds the tasting room open on the weekends. Children are welcome to have their own tasting of nonalcoholic cider, too. You will not be disappointed!

Kayla K.

Yelp
Amazing customer service and excellent opportunity to learn about the art of making cider. If you're looking for crisp, fresh cider then this is the place for you!

Yang H.

Yelp
Had a really lovely time here! Did the cider tasting, which was fun and delicious. Our server was warm, welcoming, and very knowledgeable! The indoor space is very comfortable and the whole property just had a lovely peaceful vibe. We also did a tasting at Dragon's Head, but ultimately enjoyed our time at Nashi more because it was more relaxing and welcoming.

Yelp
One of the very best hidden gems in Vashon- we love coming here to have a taste of their ciders, sit outside in the summer while watching the sheep hang out and kids running around in the grass. Their cider is some of the best I've ever had and the owners are knowledgeable and happy to share stories anytime! They've also trained a wonderful staff to maintain their great customer service and keep their customers learning about what they do and offer. Nashi is truly a place we never miss when we come to the island.

Anna R.

Yelp
We attended a cider tasting at this wonderful establishment and cannot say enough good things! It is an amazing atmosphere -totally laid back- and wonderful staff! Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable about the products, and helpful! There was limited seating inside, and outside seating was abundant. They even have a bonfire going. If you're in the area I highly recommend checking Nashi Orchards Tasting room out!

Yelp
Beautiful bright grounds with young trees lining the street side. The parking is on soft grass a short walk to the outside tasting area under a canopy. The self serve tasting was made so easy complete with chilled wine glass and bottle opener. We sat is comfortable shaded area tasting the light and refreshing pear cider. Truly a highlight to our trip to Vason Island.

Yelp
Lovely, peaceful setting with elegant setup for tasting and just sitting to enjoy the meadow. Good variety of flavors of perry, meeting many taste preferences. Nice snacks-a little treat! Good luck!

Samantha L.

Yelp
What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon! We ordered the cider flights, and each pour was unique and refreshing. Particularly enjoyed the Black Ice which was reminiscent of ice wine. Family-friendly with non-alcoholic options for the kiddos and corn hole to keep everyone entertained.

Yelp
Wonderful and delicious. Their perry is so fresh and vibrant tasting. Their location is in a beautiful setting with pastures of sheep and a lovely orchard. Well worth the visit!
google avatar

Clint K.

Yelp
Wonderful and authentic people (owner operators), charming venue (the barn is where all the production happens and the side overhang is such a comfortable place to hang out, and the ciders are tasty and brilliantly complex.
google avatar

Sara C.

Yelp
Incredibly kind and lovely people! And the cider tasting was delicious too! Will definitely be back on our next day trip to the island!
google avatar

Leah A.

Yelp
Nashi Orchards was a great experience! Did a cider flight tasting and was pleased with every cider, especially the Perry! One of the only places in the world to age Asian pears (or so I was told) I definitely felt this was a worthwhile experience on Vashon Island. Not to mention the adorable bear-dog that sits in the shade on site, available for hugging :)
google avatar

Tina H.

Yelp
Love the cider tasting here today! Good variety. Such wonderful place and nice owner. Will try to comeback again.
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
We love this cidery... Jim constantly is producing some of the finest Perry and Ciders around. He is an artist, and this orchard is a hidden treasure not to be missed. Gorgeous grounds and a wonderful place to sit back and sip!
google avatar

Tamara H.

Yelp
The husband and I had a private tour of Nashi Orchards and let's just say wow! I highly recommend! The owners are sweet and so are the staff. They took time out of their schedule and offered tons of great recommendations. You will not be disappointed by checking this place out.
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
I love this place. It's so relaxing with a Japanese-Farmhouse Fusion decor lol. and the grounds around the back of the main house are incredible. $5 gets your a flight of all four of their ciders and perrys (cider made from pears)
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
My friend and I visited Vashon for a retreat on a Monday-Wednesday. Not realizing that Vashon has that small-town sleepiness, almost everything was slated at "closed" for our trip! I emailed Jim at Nashi Orchards and asked if we could set up a tasting appointment for Monday. I was so excited when he agreed to make time for us! For $10 we had the place to ourselves, had a wonderful chat, learned all about the ciders and perrys, and left with some bottles of our favorites. The Orchard is beautiful and peaceful, I would recommend stopping by!
google avatar

Brittney H.

Yelp
I went in for a tasting yesterday and it was the most wonderful experience. The scenery was gorgeous and the staff were so friendly. The ciders are so delicious.

Katie T.

Yelp
What a fabulous stop on our Sunday bike ride! We tasted perry and cider, and had a wonderful time learning how both are made. All of the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly (we're still glad for the tip about the ferry breakdown!). We'll definitely be back!

L R.

Yelp
Beautiful property and the owners were incredible. Felt like I was a regular even though it was my first time. Can't wait to bring more people!!!
