"A big spot near Boyle Heights, Indie Brewing is a great alternative to the crowds at some of the DTLA-proper breweries, and they pack ’em in during Dodgers games, or whenever there’s a big soccer match." - kat hong, james montgomery
"Unlike the massive warehouse-sized taprooms in the nearby Arts District, Downtown’s Native Son is a taproom with the personality of a neighborhood bar. The game is on behind the counter, they play upbeat house music on the speakers, and you should expect to meet three dudes in flannels named Chris. Overall, it’s a great option in DTLA for serious craft beer drinkers. There’s a short menu of ten taps featuring Mexican lagers, IPAs, and an Italian-style pilsner called Pasta Water (which tastes a lot better than it sounds). If you want an easy place downtown to fit a large group of people in need of beer, look no further." - Sylvio Martins
"Indie Brewing in Boyle Heights has returned, with tables six feet apart and staff wearing masks and face shields. More info and daily hours on their Instagram." - brett keating
"What It Is: A new brewery/restaurant/coffee shop in DTLA from Modern Times (the beer company) Perfect For: Craft Beer, Day Drinking If we could eliminate the word dankness from the English vocabulary, we would. But we can’t, so here we are with The Dankness Dojo, and at least this new downtown brewery/restaurant/all-day coffee shop from Modern Times (the beer company) is still great. The colorful space is big and open, filled with a low-key crowd all there to do one thing - drink really good beer. The plant-based/vegan food menu is, unfortunately, not very good, so we’d recommend eating elsewhere. Verdict: A cool space serving excellent craft beer. It’s going on the Bar Hit List." - jess basser sanders, brant cox, brett keating
"Just because you can get Modern Times in Walmart, doesn’t mean it’s not one of the best local breweries in LA. Their Downtown location has weekly pick-up and delivery of their excellent flagship beers like Orderville, Blazing World, and Fruitlands, as well as their limited-release specials. Keep an eye out whenever they have crowlers of their dessert stouts, like Modem Tones or Pharaoh Ascendant. Also, any of their hazy IPAs are highly worth your time. Weekly pick-up, delivery, and shipping within California - check their website for more information." - brett keating
