Ghirardelli Chocolates Contain Heavy Metals. Apparently, So Do Trader Joe’s. - Eater SF

Best Restaurants in Oakland Chinatown Open for Takeout and Delivery | Eater SF

"One of the East Bay’s foremost practitioners of Buddhist Chinese vegetarian fare, Nature Vegetarian has been pleasing vegans and omnivores alike for the past decade. The restaurant makes all of the faux meats that form the base of the menu in-house — a process that yields a particularly delicious take on sesame chicken. Any dish with eggplant or tofu is likely to be a winner, including several clay pot dishes." - Luke Tsai

20 Best East Bay Vegan Restaurants | Eater SF

"The sprawling menu gives vegans an abundance of Chinese options, many of which are prepared with the restaurant’s uncommonly tasty housemade mock meats. Never thought you’d get a craving for gluten-based vegan sesame chicken? You’ll want to give this one a try. Even better, almost everything on the menu costs less than 10 bucks." - Eater Staff

⭐️ Food 5/5 ⭐️ Service 5/5 ⭐️ Ambiance 5/5 I have been looking for a go-to Chinese restaurant for many years and this will definitely be my new spot! Not only was the food absolutely delicious, the service was warm, friendly, and polite. I was happily surprised that everything that we ordered had the perfect flavor and texture. I have been vegetarian for over 10 years and I will say this has to be one of my best experiences for both vegetarian food and Chinese food. Both of my children are meat eaters, and could not even tell the chicken wasn’t actual chicken! They have specific taste buds and this place had my kids happy and wanting more! Also, the portions and pricing is good. We had lots of leftovers even with full bellies ☺️ Thank you to the staff for your kindness and delicious food! We will definitely be back for many visits and lots more food 💗

Google
Stunning food. I am a meat eater but their egg rolls are stellar and general tso's chicken was awesome. All vegetarian.

I’m recovering from an operation and was excited to have vegetarian food delivered. Delivery was prompt, however, the hot n sour soup was too glutenous. The broth was lacking flavor and the texture was gooey. General Tao’s was yummy and the sauce marvelous. I wish the menu included crispy fried tofu options in the main dishes.

We came here for Meatless Monday. My daughter and I often try to eat less meat whenever we can. This place is one of our favorites whenever we are in the area. The lunch specials prices have gone up throughout the years BUT it is still a steal for the price. Since we had it many years ago, one thing I've noticed is that they keep the lunch meals simple. Their lunch specials always come with soup, egg roll, 2 scoops of rice, and the main entrée of your choice. We also got hot tea on a cold day. What we ordered: Veggie Sesame Chicken and Veggie Mongolian Beef, both with white rice (but you can opt for brown rice). This meal came with hot and sour soup. * My go-to are: Veggie Chicken General Tao, Veggie Pork Sweet and Sour Sauce. Overall, both entrée were really good and we will come back for more.

Google
The service itself was great, really personable & attentive. I did not care for the taro cakes, and it is really cold inside. I do like the veggies proteins & the eggplant dish I got.

Google
This place is a total gem. It’s has a peaceful atmosphere, the staff are kind, and the food comes really quick. Ive brought meat eaters here as well and they are all surprised how good the dishes are. The lunch specials are also such a good deal! Definitely recommend!

One of my favorite places to eat. Buddhist establishment owned by Ling. I’ve eaten most items on the menu. Great every day.

Google
Delicious. I'm vegan. Nothing was clearly marked so it was a gamble. But everything was great. We ordered the potstickers which were fried and great. The vegi chowmein. Good, not alot of veggies. Or friends got the spicy green beans which were super yummy.

Yelp
Food is excellent and you really can't beat the prices here - it feels like pre-inflation prices. I ordered takeout and I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture (: but here are the things I ate: Sautéed lotus root - 10/10 you have to like lotus root and I love lotus root. It was cooked perfectly. It includes black mushroom and snap peas Veggie beef chow fun - 9/10 flavored well and cooked well Veggie General tsaos chicken - 8/10 flavored well but the veggie chicken was slightly dry Veggie Beef with broccoli - 10/10 saucy and delicious

Yelp
My older sister has been vegetarian for over 30 years, and now that I'm in the Bay Area, it's great to meet up for dinner. We visited this restaurant on a Saturday around 6:30 PM and found it relatively quiet, with just a few other tables occupied when we arrived. Parking options include street parking and a nearby deck, which is convenient. The service was commendable; our waitstaff were attentive and efficient. We appreciated the variety on the menu and ordered dishes like roasted duck, chow mein, shark fin soup, and basil string beans for our group of four. I'm pleased to say we enjoyed every dish and finished everything. One suggestion for improvement would be to enhance the restaurant's ambiance since it felt a bit subdued during our visit. It seems many places in downtown Oakland close by 7 PM, even on weekends, which contributes to a quieter environment. Overall, it was a satisfying experience with tasty food and good service.

Yelp
We are moving towards a vegetarian diet as a family and so we are trying to find veggie friendly takeout/delivery and dining options. I can't speak to the ambiance or service as we had our meal delivered m, but I can't speak to the food. The menu is quite large and literally has something for everyone. We ordered the "pork" fried rice, lemon "chicken", stuffed eggplant and wontons. This was definitely an over order for two adult and a child, there will be enough food for 2-3 meals. However, everyone had a different favorite. The child who generally LOVES fried rice, did like it, but reported that the lemon "chicken" and the wontons were her fave. The wontons were stuffed with what I would describe as fake ham and came with a delicious dipping sauce. My husband loved the stuffed eggplant. The eggplant was cooked very well, and they made the crust look like crispy pork skin. While my husband loved the bean paste it was stuffed with, the child and I weren't super fans of the texture. I loved the fried rice, it was epically smoky. All in all. We were happy to try it and will definitely add this to our restaurant rotation.

Yelp
I last wrote a review here in 2017. I hadn't been here in a few years. I am glad my beloved and I went here for dinner recently. Friendly service. Humble setting. We ordered family style the Mixed Vegetable Deluxe with Wood Ear Mushrooms and Baby Corn and Braised Tofu with Vegetables. We had this with a side of brown rice and spring rolls for a starter. Everything was delicious. We will definitely return again soon.

Yelp
This is a quaint little restaurant located conveniently close to 12th St BART; I went during lunchtime on a Saturday and there was street parking too. There's complimentary hot tea to enjoy throughout your meal, which is nice. Items I ordered: - honey walnut shrimp (ABSOLUTELY ORDER THIS) which was perfectly battered and fried, and not too sauced - salt and pepper chicken that was delicious and had an excellent crunch - basil green beans which were exactly what you'd expect--good and simple - roasted duck (everyone's least favorite dish; you'll want to pass on this one. It's got a strange texture and tastes of dehydrated mushrooms) Service is quick and friendly and there's a bathroom in the back. It's a great place to have a leisurely meal with friends or family!
google avatar

Yelp
Exceptional vegetarian meal! I was most impressed with the vegetarian honey walnut prawns, which mimicked the texture and taste of shrimp perfectly with a yummy creamy sweet sauce, fried wonton strips adding a nice crunch, and candied walnuts. The tofu dish was delicious and very soft. The mushroom soup was savory goodness. Fried rice was impressive, tasted very meaty/umami. The fried cauliflower mimicked calamari and was fun to snack on. It also came with imitation roast pork, which didn't taste like pork but mimicked the crispy skin and fat pretty well and was fun. The servers were friendly and it's a great place for large groups. Our vegetarian companions said this is the best vegetarian restaurant around, and I believe it!

Yelp
Definitely one of our go to take out restaurants if we're in the area. Seems like they also opened recently again for inside dining, which is exciting!! Basically we always ALWAYS get the salt and pepper chicken. It's the perfect salty snack as we watch a movie. Then usually every time we order, we change up the remaining dishes to try different things. I don't remember ever ordering anything I particularly disliked, it's always delicious.

Yelp
Fast, friendly and solid vegetarian/vegan Chinese food in Oakland. Good portions, and not too oily.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Ordered the general tso's chicken, pad see ew, and spring rolls. Service was quick and friendly! Definetly coming back when I'm in the area!

Yelp
This may well be the best Chinese-style vegetarian restaurant in the Bay Area. Steep in traditional southern China cookery, fusioned with modern Taiwanese mock meat (best in the business), and a creative chef, this unassuming dining place offers a dignified peaceful atmosphere and a surprising menu that other Asian vegetarian restaurants do not have. If you believe in the connection of food with the wellness of your body as well as your mind, this is the place. A subtle suggestion of the Buddhist peacefulness and the good karma of practicing non-killing of animals is always a meaningful experience dining here. You eat but do no harm to the Planet!

Yelp
Their Vegetarian dishes are good, and price is reasonable, but only for takeout no dine in. I'm recommended.

Yelp
The dishes were all quite good. The portions are generous. The staff were friendly and helpful -- the takeout setup was easy to navigate with a table at the front for pickup orders.

Yelp
We LOVE it here. It's what many refer to as a "hole in the wall" but those who know, know that many of them have the best food!! Food and service are both top tier. Ling is the best! #themHines

Yelp
One of my favorite spots for vegetarian food in the Bay Area. Great variety and so tasty

Yelp
Let me start off by saying I'm a huge meat lover, all my pizzas will always have extra pepperoni and I'm a big advocate for KBBQ. So it's clear I'm not even a vegetarian but this is where I bring all my friends to celebrate my birthday. The food here is sooo good. The seasoning and substitutes for protein are unique and yummy! Come here with an open mind and empty stomach. This place is accommodating if large groups. Fast service, friendly staff, delicious food. Seriously such a gem! My go to: pan fried curry noodle, nature fried rice, cod fish clay pot

Yelp
Ordered takeout for 7 ppl dinner. The order was ready in under 30 minutes and I was able to drive up and call them to bring out the order. Excellent service. The food was quite good but quality has dwindled from years prior. But previously was dining in hence couldn't compare to be fair. Prices are also 2019 prices. Heard they own the building and hence do not have to comp for rent increases.

Yelp
Okay. This place should actually deserve 5 stars EXCEPT that i think they put a lot of MSG-equivalent thing that makes you really thirsty afterwards. That being said, I don't think it would stop me from going again. Just...to be intentional when I want to go to this place. Anywho, the stuff we ordered: 1. Honey Walnut "Shrimp" - Like many reviewers, i found this very delighful. It literally tastes like shrimp and SMELLS like seafood. WILD. Would get again. 2. Sauteed Lotus Root - Quite salty but quite yum. Lotus Root is annoying to peel (imo) so I like that I can go here for this traditional veggie dish 3. Sesame "Chicken" - Probably the most underwhelming dish (but still decent). A lot of people said this was a must try. I think it was just alright. Didn't really get the sesame flavor and the texture of the chicken was definitely meh. 4. Chao Style Fried Rice - come for the rice people! This was 10/10. 5. Yang Chow Fried Rice - also excellent!! The rices were what I would come back for!! Note: This place is cash only. You can order online but you ultimately pay in person in cash. They do pick up very punctually too!

Yelp
I used to like this place a lot. So great to have a good Chinese vegan joint in the heart of Oakland. Their fake crispy pork was amazing. But guess the years haven't been kind to it, and COVID didn't help. They aren't open for dine in and it looks gloomy. Maybe, hopefully, their to go business is still going well. I ordered the veggie cod fish steak with eggplant, the veggie roast piglet appetizer, and veggie Peking style ribs. Of those the "cod fish" was ok and acceptable. But the other 2 were lame. The "ribs" was chewy with a thick batter and wayyy too sweet. The "piglet" had no resemblance to the meat version. The guy who took the order was very nice, kind and patient (based on how he handled another group who were ordering and being a pain). So the stars are mainly for that. But really really hope their quality of food improves dramatically and soon.

Yelp
I am very happy to dine at this restaurant tonight. I have been reluctant to eat at restaurants since the pandemic and am pleased we stepped out of our comfort zone. The place was sparkling clean, service excellent and offered many healthy choices. The meals my wife and I ate were fresh, delicious and large. Do not hesitate to step inside to enjoy the tasty, healthy and plentiful food served here. You will not regret it.

Yelp
First, spring rolls were perrrrrrfect. Crisp, fresh filling, piping hot. Sesame chicken was good, but the broccoli was a little past it's prime and slightly overcooked. Definitely ordered wrong with the Mixed Tofu with Greens. I just didn't understand what this was and didn't ask. The mixed tofu was actually in a batter and deep fried, like a fritter. The greens were bok choy (though I was expecting more of a Chinese broccoli type green, why not just write bok choy?). Based on these dishes, it wasn't my favorite.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Egg roll, soup, entree, and rice (white or brown. Fried rice is not an option, I asked) all for only $11.50 Such a great deal and the quality of the food was amazing. The green beans were crunchy and tasted fresh and the sauce was flavorful. Not very spicy but they do have chili on the table if you want to add more. I will be coming here for lunch more often. The restaurant is also pretty and has a lot of seating. Perfect for a birthday dinner. Sadly I was the only one in the restaurant. On the plus side I think that's why I got such great service too. I hate to see amazing restaurants empty!

Yelp
Long overdue review!! I've been coming to Natures Vegetarian for a while now. Now I have to tell you, there is absolutely no where to sit in here. They no longer do dine-in BUT the quality of the food makes up for that. To me, this is the BEST vegan Chinese food in the Bay Area. I've tried the green beans, beef chow mien and salt & pepper chicken. Amazing! I 100% recommend ordering the salt & pepper vegan chicken if nothing else. Food always comes out quick too!!

Yelp
yesterday I would have given this place a 5 stars. today it's just a two. this has been one of m6 go to places and what I ordered today I have ordered countless times. but today it tastes like a new chef who dousn't know when it is time to chane the oil in the fryer. i got 3 things, two I could not eat and 5he third one was just omay.nwell, they are off my list.

Yelp
Food: 9/10 Service: take out only as of April 2022 Portion size: large Value: 8/10 Wait time: 10 minutes for pick after placing a phone order This vegetarian place shocked me!! My husband needs meat in all his meals but he was satisfied with this vegetarian meal! I feel like that definitely says something! We ordered the veggie beef chow fun and Chao style fried rice. The Chao style fried was is one of the best fried rices I've ever eaten! Such good flavor with seaweed, green beans, veggie meat pieces and sesame seeds. So simple, but sooo good! I don't know how they do it! The veggie beef in the chow fun was a little weird for me. The texture and flavor just didn't sit right with me. I did like the flavor of the dish and noodles were fresh and bouncy but maybe next time I'll try just the veggie one or veggie chicken? Also they are not accepting indoor dining yet. So take out only! We were able to eat each dish twice which means the portion size was pretty good for being only $10 per plate! Definitely give this place a try!
google avatar

Giovanna R.

Yelp
Great veggie won ton soup! It's our go-to and my mom's favorite! I've tried a few other dishes, but the soup stood out. I liked their tofu in dishes but not the fake meat substitutes. I'll keep coming back for their soup tho! :)

Karen C.

Yelp
One of the best vegan restaurants in Oakland. They have a mixed veggie with an extensive selection of rare mushrooms, a Mopu Tofu with just the right mouth tingling and their "chicken" is perfect. They are kind and helpful and the food comes quickly and perfectly prepared. The room is a little small but take out is easy!
google avatar

Yelp
This place was on a popular hot streak for years when they accepted dine ins. I like to eat my food fresh within 10 minutes, so since there isn't dine in anymore I stopped going Best meatless food iv ever had, I can eat there everyday. Friendly staff

Yelp
Happy Lunar New Year! It's customary to eat vegetarian on the first day, but why not make it a lifestyle change for your health and environment? I visited Nature Vegetarian on a complete whim when another nearby vegan restaurant was closed over a holiday weekend. Lucky for me, they had an incredible array of options for vegetarians and vegans alike that even all my meat-eating friends enjoyed the meal. Their Bean Curd Appetizer (4 in each order) was one of our favorites. A deep fried bean curd roll with lots of filling and a tangy sauce. We also really enjoyed their Salt & Pepper Chicken, which was one of the closest to taste with real chicken that I've had in a long time. The seasoning is what really made it and it was a fabulous entree. The most surprising for me was their BBQ Pork Fried Rice, which was the most realistic looking cha-shu I've seen in a vegan fried rice dish. Despite the restaurant saying 'vegetarian,' most (if not all) of their items are vegan as they don't use egg. If you're unsure, don't hesitate to ask as their friendly service really left me feeling good about placing my order. Pricing is fantastic too. For four entrees and two appetizers, our total came out to roughly $60 which feels like a steal in today's age. It helps dismantle the assumption that vegan food is expensive because it certainly doesn't need to be. As of December 2021, they are still to-go only. You can order via phone ahead and get your food quicker than walking in and placing your order.

Yelp
I hadn't been to Nature Vegetarian in many years. It's an old-school vegetarian Chinese Buddhist restaurant; while the menu doesn't state this, I suspect no garlic or onion is used in their dishes (which doesn't mean a lack of flavor by any means). We got a wide variety of dishes for a gathering of friends. A highlight was the veggie beef with black bean sauce ($102.5) which features simple seitan and bell peppers in a nice, savory sauce. The pot stickers ($7) were respectable and we also enjoyed the pea sprout with white mushroom ($16), a dish I didn't expect to see. Be warned it has an oyster sauce undertone (albeit completely vegan). The bean curd rolls ($7.50) are large and unusual. They're basically egg rolls with a tofu wrapping filled with black fungus and other vegetables. I enjoyed them, though the wrapper has an odd flavor (maybe from the cooking oil they used?). The PFN w/gluten puff and curry sauce ($11) was tasty on a whole, though the gluten puff has the texture of tallow. "PFN" stands for pan-fried noodles (it took me a moment to realize that). The fried mixed tofu with Chinese green ($11.80) consists of bok choy with mushy, crabcake-like tofu puffs filled with diced vegetables. While unusual and interesting, the dish didn't wow me. The veggie beef chow fun ($10.50) was fine, but boring. Take a pass on the veggie sesame chicken ($10.25), veggie General Tao's chicken ($10.25) and spring rolls ($7.50), all of which failed to impress. All told, Nature Vegetarian is fine. I think Garden Fresh in Palo Alto and Mountain View has significantly better food than any other vegetarian/vegan Chinese spot in the Bay Area, but I doubt most people in San Francisco or Oakland would be willing to make that drive.

Yelp
I went here with a friend and we ordered ahead for pickup on their website, then split several dishes. We ordered Mongolian beef, veggie roast duck, pumpkin taro tofu curry, and white rice. The veggie roast duck really didn't taste like duck and actually reminded me of sushi rolls in the way they were cut up, but I really liked how it tasted since it was sweet. It's technically in the appetizers section, but is large enough a portion that you could use it as your main dish, or easily share among a group. The Mongolian beef was decent, not particularly notable; the yellow bits visually look almost like fries, but they were not. There's a lot of bell peppers and the "beef" itself was bean curd. The pumpkin, taro, and tofu curry was really good - very flavorful, you should definitely have it with rice or some other carbs since it may be a bit too salty otherwise, but it was a generous portion with plenty of the solid ingredients. Overall, I thought the food was delicious and they have a pretty sizable menu with vegetarian/vegan versions of almost every common meat. However, if you are unable to eat soy-based products, you will be more limited in your choices of entrees.
google avatar

Ashley T.

Yelp
This restaurant is only open for takeout or delivery which we didn't realize before arriving. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. We orders the green beans and the stuffed eggplant. The staff did not yet have a projected date that they would reopen for in person dining.

Yelp
dear nature: it pains me to write this - i am SO disappointed in my recent meal mongolian beef add broccoli - the mongolian beef was soggy & too large - it was like trying a soggy bread ... i love seitan & i could not eat this the sauce- invisible? i was able to eat the steamed flavorless broccoli the chow mein- my noodles were too al dente & the dish was flavorless i got off bart -IN THE RAIN- & walked the few blocks to spend 33$ to be incredibly disappointed i will save the brown rice & use for a curry service was quick- but the restaurant appears to be closing bc it's empty & filled w boxes - ambiance was isolating i was so disappointed- i am still upset by this i can not recommend this restaurant

Yelp
Used to dine here regularly pre-Covid then stopped dining out. Apparently they were closed for a while, then open only for take out. Well, they are open for dining once again and we went there last week. Enjoyed two meals with my vegetarian husband - food was fresh, well prepared, reasonably priced and portions were quite generous. We will definitely become regulars again.

Yelp
This is one of my go-to places for veggie Chinese. Really good food! Warning: I ordered from a menu they handed me and the total came up to more than what I expected. They said they raised the prices but didn't reflect it on the menu they gave me. They added a dollar to each entree I ordered. They tried to have me use the ChowNow app to order but the prices there were even more expensive there. So I stuck to the original total that came up higher than the prices listed on the paper menu. When the my credit card was rung up, with the 10.25% sales tax it was still higher than it was supposed to be. So I asked for an itemized receipt. Turned out they added a 50 cent to-go fee even though they are now ONLY doing take-outs. So they gave themselves an extra to-go sale one top of the increased menu prices by no longer offering indoor dining. I want to support this veggie business but their mark-ups are a bit shady especially since they are not up front about it. Pro-tip: Always check the menu prices, tax, and fees against your final total and always ask for an itemized receipt. And, of course the veggie pork fried rice and sesame chicken are pretty damn good.

Michael G.

Yelp
Their food is both light and delicious and also satisfying. I have a shellfish allergy so their "shrimp" is an amazing substitute for the real thing, including flavor and texture.
google avatar

Cj L.

Yelp
Just a quick review to support a local business. My family and I hardly ever come up to Oakland, but this place is one of the reasons why we do. It's honestly so rare to find Chinese Vegetarian restaurants in the Bay Area, let alone one that is just THIS good. You really can't go wrong with any dish from here. My favorites are the sauteed lotus roots, beef chow fun, and eggplant with fish steak claypot.

Yelp
Tastes like the real thing!! I stopped eating meat 15 yrs ago and it was a struggle finding replacements for those comfort foods... but I was happy to find this place. I love the sweet and sour pork and also the broccoli and beef dish
google avatar

Sheila B.

Yelp
I was really pleased with the food here. The only thing I probably would not order again was the chowmein. Although they are super generous with portions, it simply lacked flavor. Add a lot of soy sauce & red vinegar, & it'll probably be a hit! My boo loved it. The highlights of our meal were the sesame chikn & the spring rolls. I read many reviews raving about the sesame chikn! It is a must try!! Really tasty and fresh. It was piping hot. The spring rolls were just out of this world. They were so freakin crispy & fresh. Hands down some of the best I've ever tried. I was blown away!!!!! The fried rice was also top shelf. Upon opening the box it smelled just like the fried rice I used to eat with my family when we'd go out to dim sum. It just needs some soy sauce & vinegar IMO (then again, I put those 2 on everything).. & lastly, the potstickers! We actually started with these. They were nice a nice appetizer- lightly crisped on the outside & full of tasty, vegan goodness on the inside. I was really intrigued by the sauce they gave with it. It was like chili oil & vinegar of some sort but it definitely went hand in hand together.

Yelp
COVID UPDATE: This place remains my favorite asian comfort food restaurant. We had the General Tsao's, Basil String Beans, and Singapore noodles. General Tsao's: always a must for me when I come here. Needed more broccoli but still good :). Basil string beans: cooked in a bunch of oil but really tasty. The basil flavor is subtle. Singapore noodles: dry as heck but is that how Singapore noodles are supper to be..?? the flavor was good. Portion was big.

Yelp
This place is my favorite restaurant in Oakland. The food is always delicious and so comforting. Must order their fried rice, Mapo tofu, and any of the mock chickn dishes. SO GOOD!

Yelp
This is my first time ordering from this restaurant and they are on BeyondMenu app where you can order or preorder your dishes for pickup. It was very convenient to use and my order was ready on time. I included a picture of the order. We got lunch menu and the portions were great for sharing. It came with soup, egg rolls, brown rice. All dishes were delicious. I recommend this place for your veggie dishes.

if you're looking for vegetarian chinese food in the east bay with reasonable prices, this is the place for you. located in the oakland chinatown offering only takeout, this place boasts a wide variety of entrees and dishes with quality meat substitutions. since it offers only takeout, we ordered over the phone and got the braised tofu with mixed vegetables, pan fried noodles with veggies, and veggie general tao's chicken. they said the food would be ready in 20 minutes, but it was ready in less than 20 minutes. walking in to the place, you can see they only offer takeout, as the tables and chairs are all squared up and put away. the braised tofu with mixed veggies were amazing; the tofu was soft and juicy, and the there were plenty of veggies (bok choy, mushrooms, and carrots). the pan fried noodles were also great, but you need to manually mix them up with the sautéed veggies, which makes sense because if they mixed them, it would be soggy buy the time you got home. lastly, the best dish we ordered was the veggie general tao's chicken. excellent chicken meat substitution (not too rough or chewy), and the flavor was amazing. i would definitely come here again and try out more of their dishes.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our time here. We came here on a weekend night and there were about 5 other tables occupied. We ordered quite a bit of plates and they each came out under 5 minutes from us ordering which was incredibly fast. Made us wonder about how they did that. The dishes were very fragrant and cooked well. The Won Ton soup was fresh and had a lot of vegetables in it. The braised eggplant was also very fresh but the only downside was all the sauce it was drenched in. My partner said that the Ma Po Tofu tasted like it normally does at other places he's had it. The sesame chicken actually tasted like chicken and so that was interesting but it could have been crispier. Overall, their dishes (at least the ones we ordered) were kind of overpowered by mushrooms, which is not my favorite unfortunately. The service was fine, though I feel like we had to wave them down more than other tables did (it was clear the boss knew some folks eating there and tended to them versus us where it was our first time eating there).

Yelp
just when I thought being vegan wouldn't allow me to eat Chinese food, I thought wrong. This place has everything and it's all meatless. I really love this place. The service is 10 out of 10 I am always greeted kindly and the food is always ready within 10 to 15 minutes.

Yelp
Nature Vegetarian is a Chinese Vegetarian/Vegan place. They use soy protein to simulate meat and seafood. It's pretty good, not too salty like other Chinese Vegetarian places. More regular Vegetarians than me say it is pretty good.

Yelp
We did a takeout order here through their online ordering system and it was ready exactly when we requested. Large, varied menu of all vegetarian/vegan items -- it's really difficult to choose! The gai lan with veggie ham was very tasty. The ham was beautifully textured, the gai lan perfectly cooked, and the Chinese brown sauce nicely balanced. 4/5 The veggie chicken chow mein was tasty, though the noodles aren't chow mein noodles. Not sure if this is the norm in the Bay Area, but I'm used to actual chow mein (i.e., yellow thin noodles) coming with the order when I order chow mein. Regardless, the dish was tasty, with big chunks of soy chicken and little else. A bit underwhelming, but it was tasty nonetheless. 3.5/5 The ma po tofu was the surprising standout. They must have used a good dose of Szechuan peppercorns, as well as black pepper, because the seasoning / sauce was quite convincing. Other than soft tofu, they serve it with veggie meat, mushrooms, peppers, celery and carrot. Amply spicy (for the North American palate, i.e., not over-the-top) and well-balanced overall. 4/5. The three dishes plus a side of brown rice came to about $38 overall after tax, which seemed reasonable. Overall, solid quality food. Recommended.
