"Nau’s Enfield Drug, including its soda fountain and diner, will close for good in March 2023. Known for great burgers and classic milkshakes, the diner faced staffing issues and struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ultimately, the lease was not renewed, leading to its closure. The pharmacy and diner opened in 1951, with ownership passing from Lambert Labay to his daughter Laura Labay." - Erin Russell

"Clarksville institution Nau’s Enfield Drug brought back its popular restaurant this week after being closed for a year, much to the delight of West Austin residents and fans. The reopened diner and soda fountain shop is found on 1115 West Lynn Street within the pharmacy. Nau’s is only serving hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and milkshakes for now. Its initial hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. The menu will expand with other familiar and popular items like sandwiches, hot dogs, waffles, and breakfast tacos, at a later date. Hours will be extended later too. Nau’s owner Lauren Labay closed the diner in January 2019 because of staffing struggles and nearby restaurant competition. The pharmacy and the store remained open during that time. Nau’s opened in 1951 and was purchased by Labay’s father, Lambert Labay, in 1971. When he had a heart attack in 2016, Lauren took over the pharmacy and restaurant." - Nadia Chaudhury

"Nau’s Enfield Drug's diner closed due to staffing struggles. The pharmacy and store remain operational. The diner has faced competition from other neighborhood restaurants and a shortage of full-time cooks and servers. It was known for breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers, and old-fashioned shakes and malts. The owner is considering options like investment or crowdfunding to keep it open." - Erin Russell

Amending my first review on hearing from the owner they are feeling the pains of growing costs in Austin and the effects of the pandemic. My husband and I stopped by here hoping for a cold drink after a hot walk in Mayfield Park, only to discover the soda shop is closed up for the indeterminate future. Expect no burgers as well. A few locals were shopping for what looked to be regular pharmacy goods. I hope to get a chance to see this original Austin business return to her glory days.

Currently a pharmacy & convenience store, was until January this year a 'diner', first opened in 1951, staff informed us they were hoping to reopen again as it's original purpose once they got repairs done, I'm sure it would be a benefit to local area, interesting place to look at how things once we're...

Tried this place for the first time, since I heard about their burgers. I ordered a large bacon cheeseburger. The burger was good, but not extraordinary. The beef was of a decent quality, but overall it was not that flavorful or juicy. The biggest problem is their lack of service. It was lunch time, and they had one guy trying to handle all the orders, pour drinks, malts, etc . . . And one cook, who apparently couldn't understand his orders. He was messing up orders right and left. It took nearly 30 mins to get my burger. People were still tipping the guy, mostly because they felt bad for him. I know the place is old fashioned, and charming, but it could be many times better with more and or better help. Probably will never go back.

Finally discovered this place after meeting a friend for lunch. Would never have noticed it otherwise because from the front, nothing yells Delicious Food- It's a throwback in a city that is desperate to be new and fresh, and thankfully, most newbies in the city have overlooked it. Great greasy-diner type menu with yummy burgers, sandwiches, shakes and floats. They have salads too, but why would you? No fries. No big deal.

I have been coming to Nau's since I was a little kid for early lunch and I still love it! The burgers and milkshakes are always amazing, with an amazingly friendly staff to top it off. I wish the fountain was open all day, but other than that I have no complaints.

I've been eating here since I was very young so it has quite a bit of nostalgia for me, but the food is undeniably good, mostly because they make things that they know they can make well and have been doing so for a very long time. I recommend any of the burgers or sandwiches and no meal is ever complete for me at Nau's without one of their superb chocolate malts!

This place will make you feel like you went back 50 years in time. The diner in the back has a simple but satisfying menu. The rest of the store has quirky toys yet also drug store essentials. Iced tea, chips, and a small bacon cheeseburger came out to about $8. It's well priced and gives you a small town vibe if that's all you need.
