For being Kosher and Indian it's really good. One issue is i would like to see pictures to be able to order. But then again, if more clients made reviews with pictures, it would be helpful so their Google maps to have more pictures. The food is really good. I liked the south lunch menu. Also, their coconut curry soup is preaty good. I liked everything we ordered. They could work on the presentation, and they need to give the place a little makeover. But the food is great

Wonderful vegetarian food. Great variety of dishes. Metered street parking. Quick service. Sticky floors for some reason.

October 26, 2024. I had been wanting to try out this place for several months now, ever since a friend shared their exceedingly positive review about this South Indian vegetarian restaurant. It had a lot of items that are usually not available in typical `Indian' restaurants in USA which invariably are mostly `North Indian'. Overall, the food was tasty, authentic, and affordable ($80 for 3 members). We ate the following. 1. Adai avial (அடை அவியல்)-- The adai is slightly oily. The avial was good, lots of veggies, and a tad too much of asafoetida (பெருங்காயம்). 2. Andra masala dosa was very spicy/hot! The waitress did mention it'll be spicy, but it was way more than I expected. 3. Idly (இட்லி) -- soft and nice, felt fresh. All chutneys had a separate tadka on top while being served, it felt excessive. 4. Cauliflower -- Was oily and crispy, and I didn't actually expect it to be any different. It was okayish. 5. South Indian meals had several veggie dishes, in addition to sambar, rasam, dal. a. கோவக்காய்(Tindora) korma - had a rich gravy. b. கீரை பருப்பு(Spinach dal) - was chewy. c. பாகக்காய்(Bitter gourd) in tomato gravy - was okayish. This was another member's item, and I just tasted a few sub-items. 6. Ada pradaman (அடை பிரதமன்) -- Nice and sweet, combination of coconut milk and jaggery was nice. The rice (or was it coconut?) flakes were too many and also felt a bit undercooked.

Amazing! First and foremost, all the food was delicious! I’ve never had authentic Indian cuisine but this doesn’t taste American or like a restaurant pandering to American tastes, it tastes different and just absolutely delicious! The owner and staff were also just the nicest people, they were patient and friendly and lovely to be with. They had great recommendations and service with a smile :) We way over ordered and got to taste a little bit of everything and the whole dinner was so affordable! Go, go now. This is something everyone should experience. Get the mango lassi. You’re welcome 😉

Google
Food was amazing, however the restaurant itself needs a renovation.

Google
The service was great. They were very patient and explained all of the dishes to us and made some great recommendations. The food was really delicious, but I'd skip the salty drink.

Google
This is a home run. Amazing food. Great service. Reasonably priced so an outstanding value. We got two combo platters- one from North India and one from Southern India. It was a great call because we could try many dishes. Also highly recommend the coconut soup! I have eaten at kosher Indian restaurants around the world and this one was really really outstanding food.

Google
Third time in this restaurant. It has really good South and Northern Indian food, all of them vegetarian. A plus, in my opinion, in a neighborhood full of restaurants with only meat in their menus. This time I only had the introductory lunch, but it was worth it. I could see this as a fun appetizer for a group of two or three. Also I tried Rupee, their Indian lager, and it was really really good. I had an spill and one of the girls there quickly helped me to clean, so service is quite good. What I don't like is the atmosphere. The three times I went there it was dead silent, not even quiet music on the background, just silence. Now this time it was also dark, and way too hot. It lacks some ventilation I guess. I say this in a constructive way, because the restaurant is really good, is not generic Indian food you'll get anywhere else. It's unique.

Yelp
A great option for South Indian food in the area. Dosas = yummy. This should be on your short list of Indian dining options.

Yelp
3.5 rounded to a 4. We came here right after the parade so the restaurant was packed! Mostly Indian clientele which signified that this place is legit. The menu is absolutely extensive! The food was really solid, I wish the mango lassi was a drop colder but was delicious. Won't comment on the service as it was right after the parade so they were slammed!

Yelp
we recently catered from Rameshji who owns multiple restaurants including Navaratna. We ordered North Indian food and the food was delicious. From appetiser to main course to dessert, everything was a hit with our guests. The food was delivered in ample quantity, it was delivered hot and on time. Will highly recommend this place for small or big size catering.

Yelp
Excellent service and yummy food! Felt transported to South India for the night. Really enjoyed the experience!

Yelp
We've been to Navratna multiple times in the last decade and it has never disappointed us! It's the best Indian restaurant in the area, with top notch taste, high quality ingredients and amazing service! Ramesh is very welcoming and the entire staff is very friendly and always gives a 5 star dining experience. Also, their newest specials menu is definitely a must try, have tried at least 6 out of the ample options they have. Would definitely recommend to all, especially from the new Specials Menu. Yelp
Amazing and extremely authentic South Indian food. Staff is welcoming! My favorite vegetarian Indian restaurant!

Yelp
Excellent! Nice selection of vegetarian dishes. Love spinach saag paneer, naan, almond cream sauce on vegetables, fried cauliflower, all desserts!! Nice ambiance, quiet and smells wonderful while short wait for dinner. Will be ordering takeout!

Yelp
Came here for a quick dinner and the food is so good! It wasn't too busy so we were seated immediately, ordered some idlis for appetizers and I ordered the Paneer Spring Onion Dosa. Everything came out promptly and tasted delicious! Cute little restaurant in Stamford, street parking, lots of options for food! Would love to come back!

Mary W.

Yelp
Tried it once, will be back every time we are in Stamford. Menu descriptions do not describe what a great tasting dish every one you choose would be. I guess Indian people understand better, the reason we asked an Indian co-worker for ideas after showing her the menu. She was spot on with her descriptions and said to absolutely order everything mild !! Lucky we had enough quarters for the meter. Now we carry spares so we can park near the front if we are lucky enough to find a spot. The help is tops and the dishes look very presentable and are also very delicious.

Jaya R.

Yelp
I have visited this restaurant few times. They are Authentic with both the South & North Indian dishes. Unbelievable taste! The staff are exceptionally well trained and take care of you well. The owner is extremely friendly and truly cares about your experience. Don't miss it if you are in Stamford!

Yelp
What an awesome surprise! I was in the Rye NY area during a late lunch time and was craving South Indian food. This was SO worth the 12 mile drive. I sat down and immediately ordered the South Indian Thali and it was SO good. I also ordered a sorrel chutney off the specials menu that I had never heard of or tried before and it was SO robust, complex and amazingly good too! Great amount of veg curries, not just sauce like a lot of restaurants serve. Flavors were traditional and SO good, even a simple carrot and pea mix had layers of complexity. However, I would give three stars instead of five on just a couple of items because the Rasam was just meh, as well as the potato masala. But the lemon rice, the sambar, and the tindora curry more than made up for it. They were SO excellent and full of the traditional South Indian signature flavors. And, this was the first time I had lotus root curry as well. Another new one for me. I've only had them thrown in with other veg dishes, never on their own. The filter coffee was OK- not too strong though I like it stronger- but it was great they even had it, very frothy and fun, and I also got a masala tea which also came unsweetened, better that way. More rice than you need, and all over a great meal! Since I was on a parking meter I had to rush out and as I was paying I was saying how much I liked the sorrel curry and the dark tamarind curry which I thought was some kind of knozambu -(spelling!) and I was wrong about what it was. We figured out it was the tindora- so they gave me a small container of it to go- it was SO so kind and nice of them!!! And I had my left over rice, the sorrel chutney and that as a meal the next day and got to relive the incredible flavors all over again. I will go out of my way again to come here!!! It was pretty epic and the owners are so nice!!!

Yelp
Really good service and good food overall. We tried their South Indian food and filter coffee. We had dosas, idly and small idli's for our kid and overall everything was pretty good. It's pretty nice for South Indian food around here and the staff was very friendly and courteous. I'd recommend this place for a nice South Indian food brunch or if you're a vegan for sure.

Ben S.

Yelp
The best food in the area by far! Well priced with a huge selection of fresh and flavorful food. The ambiance is traditional and the service is excellent food comes out quick, warm, and with a smile. Our favorite kosher Indian place--HIGHLY recommend.

Yelp
Aha so if you have read my other reviews. You would know that we visit Stamford for Indian food. We like diverse Indian cuisine because Indian food has many many shades and colors. So Navratna wins because they don't serve crappy Punjabi food and make food they know how to cook - delicious South Indian food. Fresh chutney and Sambar would be a plus with their dosas!! Sometimes it seems fresh and sometimes not. Dosas are winners. We have never had food there, only take out and so no reviews on ambience or service! Attentive with the order and packaging of my food

Navah W.

Yelp
We love Navaratna! The food is always delicious, flavorful and plentiful, and the staff is friendly and attentive (and so patient with kids when we come as a family!) Our favorites are the palak paneer, paneer tikka masala, aloo tikki chaat, chole bathura and samosas, but I would happily eat the whole menu! Everything I've had here is delicious. Highly recommended!

Scott D.

Yelp
Really excellent and exciting food. More like eating at an Indian restaurant in Queens than you would expect in Stamford. Warm friendly staff. Almost zero decor- very old basic tables and chairs. But you don't come for the decor - you come for the food!
google avatar

Lamar F.

Yelp
Really good food. Nice people. And that's what matters most to me; the food. Yes, the service is good, but I go for the food lol. One time they accidentally made an extra order and they just gave it to me for free, which I appreciated.
google avatar

Jeffy M.

Yelp
I had the Navratna Korma which was good but I've had better. The service was excellent. The restaurant itself is nothing special on the inside.

Anup B.

Yelp
These guys are crooks of the first order. Do not let them into your homes or have them cater food at home. They helped themselves to the host's liquor and packed them along with their stuff. Plus they offered different dosas that have the same batter just with different stuffings but when I asked them to make a rava masala dosa they showed a lot of attitude like it was a crime. We need to kick their ass out of Stamford and work to get Sarvana Bhavan into Stamford. These Navratna guys should be consecrated to the garbage dump where they belong. Negative

J P.

Yelp
Mediocre at best. Dosa and chutneys were good but the hara Bhara kabob was really bad. Very hard and bitter, served with limpy lettuce.
google avatar

Ella R.

Yelp
The saag paneer was quite good and I enjoyed the generosity of take out portions. I thought the dish had great flavors. It was creamy and well seasoned. However, the gulab jamun was overpriced. It was very grainy, like you take a bite and feel sugar crystals in the dough? Not pleasant. I do not recommend this one.
google avatar

Vinayak V.

Yelp
Good and decent food but absolutely terrible service. We were there with kids and had ordered 3 mango lassi's towards the end of the order - it took them over 35min
google avatar

MJ D.

Yelp
Everything on the menu is good. This was an accidental lunch find by my husband, became our go-to whenever we want good vegetarian meal. Mulligantawny soup is always a good start. Rava special dosa was our recent favorite, semolima crepe with cashew nut, raisin, coriander and carrot. Vegetable Nilgiri Korma is an always good choice for everyone. We will eventually try everything over and over again on their menu. It's a place we enjoy healthy meal full of flavor and satisfaction.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Navaratna exceeds all expectations for what Indian, vegetarian, and kosher food can be. Each dish is more delicious and flavorful than the next, and almost all can be modified (e.g. less/more spicy, no dairy, etc.). Portions are plentiful - you will certainly have leftovers. And the owner/manager Ramesh is a gem and always happy to accommodate. Highly recommend - our whole family enjoys whenever we order from here.

Temima D.

Yelp
The food is delicious, portions are good, prices are reasonable and Ramesh goes above and beyond!!

Christine L.

Yelp
fabulous Indian food. What a surprise. Don't miss it. Seriously folks delicious

S Y.

Yelp
Great food and quick service. No nonsense vibe with very authentic preparation. I'd stick to the South Indian dishes only.

Yelp
I have eaten here twice so far and enjoyed it tremendously. I read through some of the negative reviews and I did not experience anything they reported. While the place is not modern or contemporary compared to other Stamford "hot-spots", it makes up for it with an incredible selection of appetizers and dosas. Everything I have ordered has been hot, fresh, and no where near appearing or tasting like anything less. I am by no means an Indian food connoisseur. I enjoy the food and eat it often during my travels around the US. If you are looking for some swanky place to hangout and look cool then maybe this isn't your place. If you want incredible vegetarian Indian food with quality and consistency then check them out.
google avatar

Hashani S.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here recently. Not bad at all, our order was ready in 10 minutes but he forgot to ask us about the spice level so it came out a little under the heat level we like. Ordered the chole bhatura and samosa chaat. Not bad, 15-16 bucks. Food was out on the counter for pickup when we walked in. There were some people dining in, will have to try some curries next time. The bhatura wasn't as dark or crispy as I'm used to. Good sized though. Food had good taste. Samosa chaat was slightly soggy so if you are gonna order chaat takeout make sure to pick it up on time to make sure it's still crispy. Will be returning, thanks!

Yelp
Oh man this place is amazing! I love indian food and I am mostly a vegetarian so this place is a major hit but you do not have to be a vegetarian to enjoy this place, trust me you won't even realize you aren't eating meat and it's much healthier for you! The food is super authentic and very reasonable with nice portions. They have tons of options and some unique dishes as well including okra and eggplant dishes which are fantastic and have a smoky flavor. They have an amazing selection of Masala Dosa's with all different types of fillings and flavors so you can try a different one each time you go. They also give you four different types of dipping sauces which are all tasty to go with the Dosa's-they all have unique flavors. The atmosphere is nothing special and the service is fairly slow unfortunately they often seem under-staffed to wait on all the tables but it is definitely worth the wait! If you pay with cash you get 10% off so make sure to bring plenty of cash with you to save money! We always have leftovers when we go there with a group which is a nice plus and everytime we are able to try new dishes because there are SO many on the menu--more than I have ever seen at an Indian Restaurant. Warning-the parking lot is VERY small and narrow so be careful when using it (it is attached to the restaurant and very easy to miss if you are going too fast) if you can get the one parking spot on the street in front of the restaurant it is much easier to park.

Anonymous S.

Yelp
great food and so family friendly! staff is so kind and professional! food is delicious as always. highly reccomend!

Yelp
This place has great dosas. I'm a dosa lover and will not give up any chance of eating dosas. I went to the one in Edison in and it was a great experience. All of their food options that I've tried were amazing... which were two types of dosas and some type of balls...(can't remember what it's called exactly) and so was the tea. Also, when the waiter came out with different dishes and walked past me to the designated tables I was very intrigued... everything looks so pleasing to the eyes.
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
By far the best Indian food in Fairfield County. Authentic and delicious, courteous staff, fairly priced and prompt delivery times. It is also certified Kosher. Will definitely be back/order again!

Patrick P.

Yelp
Food was excellent and service was extremely attentive and warm. Most of the clientele seem to be Indian families. We ordered Samosa Chaat, Pondicherry dosa, Vegetable Nilgiri Korma, paneer tikka masala and garlic Bhartura bread (sort of like naan). Our favorites were the dosa (very spicy) and tikka masala. Don't be scared off by vegetarian. The flavor comes from the delicious sauces, not the meat. Dining room could definitely use a bit of redecorating - feels more like a cafeteria than a restaurant - but I suppose it adds to the authenticity:). We sat outside, so didn't matter to us. The servers all seem to be South Indian, but the line cooks are Latino. Doesn't matter - flavors all super authentic and delicious. This place is underrated and deserves a look if you love Indian food and are looking for a new spot that won't break the bank!

Lauren M.

Yelp
Terrific food, every time we eat here the food blows us away. Flavors popping, fresh and exciting! The place needs a make over but you don't go there for the atmosphere you go for the FOOD! Amazing... a must try.
google avatar

Dan S.

Yelp
My wife and I have been here several times and always have a great meal. The food is fresh, very flavorful, and healthy. Something for everyone. I like spicy, my wife likes more mild. There a plenty of items for both of us. We usually try to choose a different curry each time we go and are never disappointed. We also enjoy the rava semolina crepes that come with delicious small sides of soup and sauces. Staff are all friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!!

Perel H.

Yelp
Highly recommend. Incredible customer service and the food was outstanding. Worth a drive, even from far.

Josef B.

Yelp
Truly a hidden gem. The best I've had I've had in a long long time! If you like it spicy then this is the place for you. The palak paneer and hot garlic chilli dosa are exquisite. The hot and sour soup was a pleasant change from the Chinese style. ...and the prices are very reasonable. All vegetarian with Many vegan dishes as well. Support this place...they are doing it right!!!
google avatar

Aishwarya V.

Yelp
The food here is amazing and highly recommend picking it up. I've been dined inside serval times and each time the service gets worse. You have to ask multiple times for your food, drinks and them to clean the table. I'm not sure why it is like this because they are never that busy where it's even close to be acceptable to have such customer service. I still recommend eating their food because that is delicious however be ready to wait hours if you dine in!
google avatar

George H.

Yelp
First time having a Pondicherry dosa. It was a bit too spicy in an acidic way for my taste. But the tea is served really hot, and the place is very authentic and vegetarian. So thank you! If I am back here, I would like to try other things on the menu. The waitress here is a sweetheart!
google avatar

Alli K.

Yelp
I'm updating my review as this has become my go-to Indian restaurant. The restaurant remains a bit outdated, in need of some paint, etc., but the quality of the food is out of this world! First off, I LOVE that they will accommodate any food restriction you have. I've asked on many occasions what things are made with, and the waiter always answers, but quickly follows with a, "but we can make it however you want." I. LOVE. THAT! The guys have been incredible waiters. The young female is a bit sour and less friendly, but the food is always great. I've ordered pick-up, Uber Eats, and have eaten in -all have been stellar!

deeksha d.

Yelp
On a rainy day me and my husband wanted to have strong south Indian coffee, we have decided to go here and the coffee was delicious
google avatar

S P.

Yelp
Amazing dosas! We have tried different ones and they are all very good! I am not a big fan of idlis, but I finished most of the button idlis with ghee (clarified butter) that we ordered for our daughter from the kid's menu
google avatar

Mical E.

Yelp
Love this spot, and it's been around for a while. Flavors are well developed. The tikka marsala , chana Marsala are amongst my favorites

L P.

Yelp
Don't let the fact that this place has only vegetarian options deter you- you won't miss the meat. Food is delicious, I mostly tried the South Indian dishes. The masala dosa is huge! We had some in our group that couldn't finish it, there is plenty of potato filling as well and it comes with 3 or 4 sides (chutney, sambar, chammanthi, etc). We also had the poori, also ridiculously large and filling. I personally didn't care for the veg vindaloo, I found it a little bitter but I haven't had a lot of vindaloo so I can't really comment. Finally we had the palak paneer, and we were shocked as to how good it was. Everything was freshly prepared. Being from New York I've had plenty of Indian food so I will say the price point here is a little above average, especially considering how cheap it is to make foods like dosa. Ambiance is a little wanting, you'll find the staff occupying one or two lunch tables in the restaurant to prepare take out orders. If you speak Malayalam you may also hear the staff complaining about the tips they received. On the topic of service, also not amazing but they get the job done. They will take your order quickly and get your food out within a few minutes. Then will also refill water. But don't try to ask too many questions, the waiters are pretty tight lipped. All in all, great restaurant, docked a star because they can improve their service and interior.

Raj G.

Yelp
We've been going here since they opened.. Almost 20+ years! Was there 10 days ago with friends for lunch. There food is great.. vegetarian and they r open during the day and don't close mid afternoon.. Normally we do takeout but today we decided to eat in. In the past they have bungled the food like missing lassi's, entrees etc. but this time the service was really poor! I ordered vada sambhar as appetizer and mystery masala dosa as main... so dosa comes first!! Vada sambhar comes next but for our friend... I'm still waiting and remind the girl who took the order about vada sambhar... so after 20-25 minutes all of us are done eating.. still no vada... so finally I call the manager over and ask abt missing food... he says no problem we'll get it now... I told him to forget abt it as we r all done and leaving. He says nothing! No apologies.. nothing! I think the staff does not care abt the customer service.. food quality has declined... sambhar has water adders! Prices have gone up 40%... Owner has clearly taken his eyes off this restaurant and is focusing on the one in Greenwich. So time to take a break from Navaratana..I can understand messing a takeout order but missing an in store order is simply unacceptable!!

Yelp
The food here is fantastic! Wow I kept meaning to come and eat here for years and finally husband and I did. We both love Indian food. I am never sure what to order but I google few things and just say 'this'. I know, I should learn but hey who has time for that lol (jk) I had paneer tikka masala and veechu paratha Amazing Definitely coming again.

Kellie R.

Yelp
This was my first time actually eating Indian food (the first time was awful...the buffet food was cold and it was sitting out too long...I don't count that). We ordered a big spread of assorted food. My favorite were the samosas, cottage cheese korma, and chickpea masala. The cheese balls dipped in honey were outstanding! I didn't care too much for the coconut rice. The delivery service was quick and friendly. We will definitely be back!
