Nearly famous is generous for what is mediocre at best. I had better club sandwiches at mcalisters for a better price. I'm not sure who thinks chilli is a soup but they are very wrong.

Google
Host was rude from the beginning. Should of been our sign to leave. But we didn't. Told waitress that it was our first time there, recommend us something, tell us what's special. Her comment was that's why you read the menu. I'll be back when your done. Was not helpful at all. Apparently our presence was bothering everyone. We ended up ordering a Ruben and a club. Both were horrible. I've had better at mc Donald's..Will not be back .Do not even recommend trying this place.

Good service. The croutons on the salad were very tasty. Unfortunately, this is where the compliments end. I ordered the spinach lasagna and my wife had the tortellini marinara. The lasagna noodles were dried out, spinach was terrible and the sauce was very burnt. Epic failure on the lasagna. The tortellini tasted like it had been frozen in a bag which was also topped with the burnt marinara sauce. Epic failure on this dish as well. Portion sizes on both dishes were extremely small. The picture of the tortellini is how much was left on the table. When asked if we wanted a box to take the leftovers, we respectfully declined. We decided to order lemon bars as a much needed pallet cleanser and wouldn't you know it, they were equally terrible! I can best describe them as tasting like crunchy butter with a hint of lemon topped with powdered sugar. How do you mess up a lemon bar? The lemon bars were also very small in portion size. I've included a standard sugar packet in the picture for scale. It's pretty bad when the croutons on the salad are the best part of the meal. Normally, I always give resturants a second chance to redeem themselves. However, this time I don't feel I can bring myself to do it.

We here for date night. We love the one up by St. Louis. Ordered the chicken Alfredo the portion for the price was disappointing. It comes with a salad but I wanted the small dinner salad. Waiter said that was additional. I thought for 9.99 it should be worth it so I agreed. Spinach prices must be high that was a super small salad especially for 10.oo. Host was not real friendly yet the waiter was super nice. Would we try it again probably not. We can go family owned downtown for a same price and better food.

Google
Lived here my whole life and never been! It’s a cozy atmosphere local feel. Very good salad with homemade croutons which were delicious! The lasagna was terrific, I love the ricotta was very good! All around great place! Lemonberry Mascarpone Cake for dessert!

Google
How I’ve never been to this gem of a place after living in Springfield for over 10 years, I’ll never know. Maybe I caught it on a great day, I don’t know, but it was the best experience I’ve had dining out in years. The hostess was very polite and accommodating (and I later found out she was the owner). I sat at the bar and the waitress/bartender found out it was my first time and recommended the pear sandwich. Yea, that’s right pears, on a sandwich. I was skeptical but I’m telling you right now, it did NOT disappoint! I had a great conversation with the bartender, and even had a chance to talk to a few other employees and was blown away. Needless to say, I WILL be back and be bringing my family and friends!

Google
Food, very average. Bread not toasted, sandwich was rather underwhelming. Very friendly service. Soup was decent. Very Mid as the Gen Z kids say

Google
I have been going here for over 6 years and never had a bad experience. It’s mostly the same people work there too. Wonderful spot to relax and have some of the best lunch food around. A gem of Springfield!

Yelp
This was a perfect little place. Service and food great. Loads of choices and decent drink menu too. Paintings by local artists on walls if you are interested. So many cute little shops on that mall! Spend the afternoon!

Yelp
Best egg salad sandwich and tomato soup combo in the city. My wife and my favorite Friday or Saturday lunch special!

Yelp
I had not been to nearly famous for years, but my brother came in town and that's where he wanted to go got right in yesterday got seated. The waiter told me Saturday was one of their slower days which I thought was interesting. He says we have so much business during the week because of people who work near here, the prices are still really great. I had a vegetarian sandwich and it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The cooler just sounded good for some reason. My iced tea was great. My brother had a BLT. He said it was great. Sadly, I didn't take any photos, but I was really happy. I had not been there in years. I guess I seemed happy bought me a $25 gift certificate. lol. everybody was very friendly and very nice our waiter unfortunately I can't remember his name. He was great the woman at the register. She was really wonderful. It was just a good time and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it.

Yelp
Nearly Famous Deli has been a longtime go to. If you like made from scratch item they nail it! I love their quiche, pastas and deli sandwiches always are a hone run! If you aren't stuffed, the desserts are incredible!

Barbara D.

Yelp
Excellent homemade food Bypass the franchises and go here I love this place! Great sandwiches, soup, quiche and pasta

Yelp
Still can't love Nearly Famous enough! The food is always great, the atmosphere is cozy, and friendly and all the staff is awesome.

Johnny C.

Yelp
Disgusting dog food. Gravy was the worst I've ever had and I found the made on date sticker IN THE LASAGNA. Nearly famous? No just nearly a week old. Don't bother.

Anne T.

Yelp
I've eaten here twice, with several months between each visit. Just ok. Poor atmosphere; dark and uncomfortable tables. Took my 86 year old mom there for lunch today. First thing when you open the door, you're greeted with a harsh warning sign not to bring in your own food and beverage. (?) Then, instead of a welcome greeting, the host asked how many and asked me to close the door. ( Mom was slower coming in) she then pointed to two tables and said we could choose whichever one. They were both in a dark loud area near the kitchen. instead of staying for an unpleasant lunch experience, we left. Done

Yelp
This is unfortunate, but he current price point vs amount of food is rather out of balance. $ 2.39 for a fountain soda????? Are you kidding me, what's their markup on that, geez. But the absolute price gouge is the $1.25 extra charge for useing a credit/debit card. This is just plain absurd, there isn't a restaurant in the entire city that's adding on a $1.25 for using a card. It's to bad too, they have good food it's just way over priced for the portion size. Oh almost forgot if you want baked lays chips, .95 cent upcharge to substitute. Are you kidding me???? Think my total bill with tip was $14.34 what did I get for that , a tiny Albacore tuna sandwich chips and a Sprite. I'm sorry but that same $14.34 at just about any place else in town gets you almost twice the amount of food for the value.

Yelp
This is a Springfield Classic! You will not be disappointed by the simply sophisticated menu! If they run out of the Special Blue plate or Quiche then you'll have to settle for any number of delicious items from the regular menu! Must dine here!
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
GREAT food and incredible staff, everything there is so good and there rotation of cookies never fail to amaze
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
Service was fine. The roast beef sandwich was okay. I would give service 4 stars and the quality of the food 3 stars. The sandwich is tiny but the price is full size. There is an up charge of 89 cents for getting baked chips instead of regular. A fountain drink is $2.29. This is not an upscale restaurant where you expect to pay for ambiance so these prices are not really merited, it's like they're over charging a little here and there until they get you for an extra few bucks per person. The final poke in the eye is the $1.25 extortion money you'll pay if you decide to use a credit card. Feels too much like a scam. I won't be back.

Yelp
Had lunch there today, as we have on other occasions in the past! I ordered the chili and it was served lukewarm, other than that the meal was ok, and the service superb!! The problem came at the cashiers stand, we were charged $1.25 for using a debit card. It was recorded as a service charge! Now outside of being a little steep for lunch when they added the chg for using a debit card. I have not encountered this charge at any restaurant in this area!

Yelp
Where to start. Began looking at the menu and decided on meal. This was approximately 3:30 PM on a Monday. Told our waitress(who was very nice) what we had decided on and she informed us that the items we selected were from the dinner menu which did not start until 5. There was approximately 7 pastas on the lunch menu. We both got the fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken. The plate was the size of my hand. I had a thin cut piece of chicken with absolutely no seasoning and was over cooked. Next up the Alfredo sauce, also no flavor. Was possibly from a jar. The addition of the dry, over cooked and under seasoned chicken was $2.99. And last but not least, they charge a $1.25 fee if you use your card. THIS IS 2019, WHAT IN THE WORLD! Shouldn't be called Nearly Famous, should be called "Barely Open"

Yelp
Nothing fancy. It's really a deli with some pasta specials. But - you actually come here for the salad. Yes, the salad. The home-made vinegar and oil dressing is delicious and they have homemade rolls. Pros: 1) Simple comfort 2) Salads 3) This tomato soup is their signature and pretty good. 4) Service Cons: 1) Pastas are not al dente and overcooked for me Other things to Note: 1) Egg Salad is a thing here and you can get that on Fridays and Saturdays only. In addition, people love the veal cutlet. Do not forget to grab a pecan bar on your way out!

Yelp
Paid $20 for a slice of quiche, small side salad, and soda (tax and tip). Not worth it. The quiche was more of a cheese pie, it was missing the fluffy 'egginess' of a good quiche. I could not finish it because it was so rich, eating bites full of cheddar cheese. The side salad was average: romaine, mini croutons, and red onions. Mine came out overdressed, also couldn't finish eating that because of too much dressing. The charge for a diet soda was $2.79. The service was great when we arrived, as we were seated and ordered our food, and while we dined. But when it came time to get our checks it took a turn. We requested separate checks (party of 2), and the server came back 20 min later with 1 bill. During that time we waited our server was closing out other tables and cleaning, although we weren't in a hurry because we were still chatting. Assumed she had forgotten about us. After we got our separate checks and she processed our payments I noticed a "non-cash charge" of $1.25 on the slip. That was annoying to me because I had cash in my wallet, so had I known I was going to be charged extra for using debit then I would've paid with cash. I didn't notice any signs about this upon entry or on the menu, nor did the server tell us. And having received card payments for my own small business, the pass through fee from the card processor is nowhere CLOSE to the $1.25 being charged to customers. It's generally pennies based on volume/amount. As we were leaving I noticed we were the ONLY customers left in the restaurant, it had been about half full when we arrived on a Wednesday night shortly after 6:20. As we walked out at 7:48 I noticed the "OPEN" sign was turned off and they were closing, sign on the door said open until 8pm on weeknights.

Yelp
Ver good deli food and pastas. Service is great, the atmosphere is pleasant and the salads are amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
They gave my hot sandwich order to someone else. I had to wait while they retrieved it . I told the manager that the food was cold and I wanted a new order. She argued with me and I had to take the cold order
google avatar

Susan L.

Yelp
Service is so-so. I ordered a salad. It is pretty difficult to ruin a salad, but they succeeded! Probably at the most a cup of wilted romaine, 3 tiny slices of red onion and stale croutons. Waaaaay overpriced and not even good. Will not return.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has been around for a long time every few years I try it out again just to see if it has changed any The food tasted like fast food my sandwich was supposed to be turkey and provolone on croissant but the croissant tasted like bread in the shape of a croissant the spaghetti and meatballs overpriced another fast food item taste just can't justify the price for the food you get
google avatar

Deb W.

Yelp
Busy little sandwich joint in a strip mall. I had the roast beef w/provolone on a croissant. Had mayo and cucumber added w/chips. What seemed simple took a long time to receive. The service was extremely slow. Once we had our sandwich they never really came back to check on us. The positive..bread was soft and sandwich was great. But just plan on relaxing and settling in when you go there.

Linda S.

Yelp
The best sandwich I've had in YEARS!! I had trouble deciding, so I ate the Pear/turkey/blue cheese sandwich and took home the ham and black olive quiche for dinner. I couldn't be happier with my choices. Oh, and check out the pecan bars at the cash register. Everyone is so nice there. You won't be disappointed.

Debbie S.

Yelp
Love this local hangout. We have lunch there every Friday. Awesome chicken salad. Staff and owner are all so friendly. Highly recommend, just don't beat me to my chicken salad. Lol

Yelp
Overall I would call my first experience here mediocre. It wasn't awful, but I definitely won't be back. First of all, our food took forever - it was at least 20 minutes after we ordered before our dishes arrived. And they were not busy this evening - there were only 5-6 tables with patrons. Our server was polite, but not very friendly. I had the chicken fettuccine alfredo. The one really good thing was their alfredo sauce - it was amazing! But their chicken was a bit dry and pretty chewy - my mom said it tasted like it had been microwaved. Definitely not a fan.

Ken G.

Yelp
Visiting from Southern California and found this deli/Resturant and had to try this place out for lunch. Great and very friendly people. The menu was easy with a nice variety. What can I say? Great value, great food & great people. I will definitely make it a point to return when visiting again. Thanks for the great lunch.
google avatar

Audra V.

Yelp
Unfortunately overpriced and underwhelming. Had the chicken piccata over rice, chicken and rice were both very dry and not much flavor. At over $18 for a small plate, nonetheless. The clam bisque was decent though. I watched the cook who was taking care of sandwiches use his cell phone numerous times while using food prep gloves, then dove right back into the bread bag with the same gloves.

Alison A.

Yelp
It was so bad. I really wanted to like it. The staff was nice. Within minutes of sitting down I knew we should have left. The decor is dated and the floors look dingy. The table behind us tried to order wine and the server said sorry, we are having trouble with our liquor license there is no alcohol. We had planned on ordering drinks so that was disappointing. Then the waiter brought us our menu and it was basically sandwiches and lunch pastas and a paper menu of 2 specials that didn't sound appealing.I wasn't even sure if we could order the lunch pasta. We asked the waiter and he said "yes, the title is misleading." Ummm we went ahead and ordered even though something was telling me to leave. I had the lasagna and he had spaghetti. The salad was good but just lettuce and onions and croutons. Their dressing is good though. While we were waiting the microwave kept beeping because their kitchen is right there. I am pretty sure they microwaved a lot of the food. Finally our food arrived. It was awful. Sauce tasted like prego, meat was dry and flavorless and spaghetti noodles were soggy. They smothered the food in what tasted like sauce from a jar. It was inedible. My husband isn't picky and he couldn't even eat it. I honestly don't know how they are still in business. You could honestly get a better meal at Fazolis.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I met for lunch during our break. Could not have been more disappointed. The Ruben sandwich was a joke. Way over priced. Food quality was very poor and mediocre service at best. Will not ever be going back to Nearly Famous again.
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
I've rediscovered Nearly Famous after living away for the past ten years and I had forgotten what a great deli place they are. NF is great for lunch. The atmosphere is homey and comfy, with brick on the walls and original artwork hanging above the tables. The sandwich selection is awesome. I had the Famous Club with chips and a pickle. They always offer two soups, with their mainstay being their Tomato soup. I have to say I am not a fan of their version of tomato soup, it's quite chunky and tart, but I know others love it. My husband loved the quiche, and says the spinach lasagna is just 'eh'. Great lunch place, give em a try!
google avatar

Rich H.

Yelp
This place used to be phenomenal. Now it's not worth the time. For starters, A Reuben sandwich comes with 1000 island. If not it's not a Reuben and shouldn't be up charged for a condiment that comes on a sandwich. Especially for a $9.00 sandwich that comes with a bag of chips. No need to waste your time at this sub par establishment.
google avatar

M D.

Yelp
I've been going here for years and hated that the original location burned. Still love the tomato soup and their salads! Also love their lasagna.
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
I was really disappointed with a service charge to use a credit/debit card. They charge their customers $1.25 to use a card. For a bill like mine that was only $10 bucks, that's a 12.5% surcharge. Food was fair, but the extra charge really left a bad taste in my mouth.
google avatar

Beth J.

Yelp
I moved here two years ago and mourned the deli I went to in Chicago. Great restaurants but not one I could call my own. Till Nearly famous! Now we go at least once a week and enjoy the service and friendly atmosphere almost as much as food.
google avatar

Janette C.

Yelp
This place was delicious....so good in fact that I ate there fore lunch AND dinner ! They have daily specials. They have a local beer. They had fresh and tasty food. I mean seriously...what was not to like? The price was resonable and the staff was friendly. Not wait either time. Was seated and ate quickly :)
google avatar

Ginger M.

Yelp
I really like this place a lot. First off, I love the very 80's-90's atmosphere and decor. It makes me feel nostalgic and cared for in the best possible way while also being contemporary & well kept enough to feel clean and current. Truly good, unobtrusive yet attentive service - which in my experience is becoming very difficult to find these days! Nearly Famous has the BEST sandwich in my opinion - their San Francisco Melt is simply my favorite, thick with cheese and perfect roast beef, red onion, tomato & Thousand Island dressing...not to mention the amazing sourdough toast. I can't rave enough about it. I tried their signature potato salad and was slightly disappointed (although I'm sure others would be thrilled by it) because it had a lot of cheddar & bacon in it. Maybe it should be labeled as "loaded baked potato salad". My husband doesn't eat bacon so he was kind of horrified when I had him try it, not expecting that as a potato salad ingredient. His spinach lasagna was okay, and not a huge portion. The small salad made up for that by being much better than expected and we still loved our visit and will be back again soon. I've had their pecan bars in the past which are well worth picking up at the counter on your way out. So tasty!
google avatar

Michael V.

Yelp
On a Saturday afternoon, you can expect this place to be hoppin' busy because they have a devoted following due to fresh ingredients with an almost "tea room" vibe. The tomato soup is chunky and quite tasty, and whether getting a meaty deli sandwich or pasta or a big salad, you will probably not complain about the food. To me, one of the things I really enjoyed was how I was treated by the server. First, she didn't hover over us every 11 seconds, yet she checked with us just to see if we were in need of anything and I noticed that every time she was nearby she would glance over to see if our iced tea needed topping off. The tea is really good by the way. But my second compliment on the service was that we were not rushed to finish and leave even though the restaurant was very busy and there were very very few empty tables to seat new patrons. We lingered and at the last minute got a small dessert, and even when the check was brought she insisted we sit and enjoy our meal and conversation, and to take as long as we would like. It was genuine and friendly. Not super cheap, but they have been doing this a long time and no matter what you order, they will not take very long to get it served. After ordering, expect your food with very little waiting.

Seth T.

Yelp
For some reason my mom and sister wanted to meet here for lunch the other day. $70! For 3 people. My mom got a quiche, I got a reuben, and my sister for a salad. We got a dessert and my mom had a tea. $70. For 3 people. For the WAY BELOW average food they serve, you can't be charging $23 a person. What a scam. NEVER COME HERE
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
Love this place! The best place for soup and sandwich. Panera doesn't touch this place. Sorry not sorry! So good!!!!!!! Daily specials and reasonably priced. Always so nice and clean. My grandma Peggy took me here and now when I visit I always have to come!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
A little bit about this place. First when you hear deli, you think ok, maybe $6-10 a plate right? I mean delis are typically fairly cheap. Well you walk in and it is set up in a typical deli format, the staff was very friendly. However, the pasta at dinner is 19 fricken dollars a plate for most of the options. Wasn't expecting that from a "deli" now if I had gone to somewhere more upscale, sure I would've expected that, but for somewhere that calls themselves a deli.... HELL NO. I decided to try to overlook that, I got one of the cheaper options (Spinach Lasagna) at $10.99. It did come with a small salad, which was nice, the salad was good, not spectacular, but good. When I got the Spinach lasagna, it came about a 3" maybe 4" square. The spinach was not evenly spread out in it at all. One half was basically pure (canned) spinach, and the other half was lasagna. The noodles were not cooked correctly, it was a little tough, and tasted like they needed to be cooked more. There was not enough sauce either. I didn't say anything while I was there, but I was left disappointed. Then when I got the bill they charged a $1.25 service fee for using a debit card to pay. As I left I did see there was a small sign on the door that mentioned the fee, but it just added to the saltiness. I mean it's the 21st century, and at the prices they charge, they could easily cover the fees for using cards. If I had gotten one of their $19 pastas, that would've set me over the top. Seriously who the heck charges that much for mediocre food and then adds insult by charging people extra to use a card to pay. I am only giving this place 2 stars because the salad was good, and the staff was friendly.

Emmy W.

Yelp
The service was great! ...But the food is mediocre. We ate here for late lunch and the sandwiches come with bagged Lay's. The sandwiches are nothing special. It's overpriced for what you're getting.

Amanda B.

Yelp
I was very disappointed when I went up to the counter to pay my bill and found out I had to pay a $1.25 service fee just for using my debit card. In this day and age, everyone uses credit or debit cards. I found it very tacky that this restaurant charged this fee. I won't be going back unless they change this ridiculous rule.
google avatar

Connie F.

Yelp
I am giving two stars because of the woman who took my order. She was very nice and friendly but the food was very mediocre and was something I could have fixed better at home! I got the reuben sandwich which was supposed to be like one of the best sandwiches that they had and it was dry! I promise you if you put my Ruben next to theirs you would like mine much better! I also got the potato soup which was okay but nothing spectacular very Bland! And then I got a piece of carrot cake cake which was supposed to be made-from-scratch freshly cooked and it was dry and it seemed like it was out of a box to me! I have had fresh carrot cake made from scratch and this was not! I was very disappointed as these three items cost me $20. I don't mind paying good money as long as the food is good but this was definitely not worth it at all. My experience was so negative as far as their food I will never eat here again!

John C.

Yelp
Very disappointed in the pastrami sandwich. Ordered it hot, and it came out with grilled bread. What is that? Have never been served a pastrami sandwich like that. It's like they don't know how to serve a deli sandwich. Plus, there was not very much meat on it.
google avatar

Kele G.

Yelp
The food quality is good. The quantity and presentation are lacking. Ordered the tuna sandwich and it was served on a plate with a pickle and a bag of chips. The kids spaghetti is just that: spaghetti. No garlic bread or fruit to make it that little something extra. It wasn't bad food, just not anything special or memorable.

Fred S.

Yelp
Good environment, nice staff. Place for women and older people to have a nice meal. Food was okay. Walked away hungry. Expensive for what you get.

Amy S.

Yelp
This place is food is extremely sweet. Will not be back. Spaghetti had a ton of sugar and Alfredo was more like soup. They also charge you a fee to use your credit card and big sign about no outside food or drink. They also charge you to share a plate. Prices are like Olive Garden. With all the signs and fees it makes you wonder how cheaply made is the food. Not I would expect for a restaurant. The one good thing is the lasagna and rolls.
google avatar

Geoff J.

Yelp
Good homemade deli options. Gets really busy at lunch. Super friendly staff. I had the tomato soup, potato salad, and turkey sammich. All tasted great, just wished the portions were bigger for the prices they charge.
google avatar

Ann T.

Yelp
Corn chowder was delish!!! Mexican salad was very good, great service......will definitely return. Really good food.

Kaska I.

Yelp
Oh yeah. I needed a lunch place that was near my dentist's office and this was the closest. The food was good and service was great but the BEST part was the atmosphere. My table was clean, there was no TV to ruin my conversation. It was busy but there was no delay. Big fan.
