Where to Stay and What to Do in Nine Rome Neighborhoods | Eater

"A historic coffee bar favored by director Pier Paolo Pasolini, featuring a shady outdoor terrace, a lively local crowd, affordable spritzes at sunset, and happy hour snacks like mini arancini and fried pizza bread (the rest of the menu is less reliable)." - Natalie Kennedy

19 Best Spots for Aperitivo in Rome

"Rustic, stylish, hip and even a touch romantic, this perennial Roman favorite ups its strong wine bar game with an outstanding aperitivo buffet as well as ample salumi plates. And though the inside's warm and fun, with untreated timber floorboards, polished white tables, black-and-whites of Italian starlets hanging on the walls (along with bottles of wine, of course), the backyard terrace—shaded by poplar trees and cozily lit at night—turns the charm up to 11. The menu plays all the classic hits, but covers plenty of international terrain as well. You can stick with the complementary aperitivo buffet, or go a la carte on the salumi menu." - Maresa Manara

Google
Really good food, all staff very friendly. The atmosphere was great the place was busy and full of chatter. Ordered a bottle of Rose and two courses the total came to €50! As we waited for our food complimentary potato chips were left at our table. Highly recommend this gem.

Best pomodoro sauce I had on pasta during a 10 day trip to Italy. Desserts look really good too. Friendly service. Nice vibe.

Google
Great place for any occasion, get together with friends or just an aperitif. Food is great, drinks too, only critical point is that the service might take too long to take orders.

Google
Very busy restaurant and for good reason - their food is delicious. Be aware - the kitchen doesn’t open until 7:30 but you can get drinks and starters prior to that.

We really enjoyed ourselves during our recent visit. The service was amazing, and so was the food. The clientele are mainly locals. The neighbourhood is off the beaten tourist trap but well worth it. We ordered most of the starters and enjoyed them all!

We went to Necci Dal 1924 to get a dessert. We took 2 tiramisus and 1 Mont Blanc (pastry). Both desserts were good. In my opinion, I like when the tiramisu has more than 1 layer of biscuit so, mine was good but not sensational… The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice: you have quite a few tables and chairs outside and the vibe is good. As for the staff, the waiter who took care of us got a 10/10. He was really nice and professional. Thank you!

An absolutely lovely local restaurant with an excellent menu, great wine selection, friendly service. We booked a table of 6 with a 9 month old and the place was totally family friendly. Great vibe, great food and amazing value for money, 👍👍👍

Yelp
Great vibes here. We stayed in the Pigneto area of Rome this visit and checked out a lot of the local restaurants and bars. My daughter and boyfriend had tried Necci 1924 a couple of days prior and raved about it so my wife and I joined them for a nice evening out. The place is very local and cute with lots of options for seating, with most being outside in a multi level area. Some seating areas are casual near the entrance with covered picnic tables while a bit further in and up some stairs, the area is less casual. We had very friendly servers who spoke English for us (our Italian isn't very good, yet!) and were very attentive to all the tables. I had a couple of beers with dinner while my daughter and her boyfriend shared a bottle of prosecco. For dinner I shared an Insalata verde e pomodori (green salad with tomatoes) for a starter and then I had Rigatoni con ragu di fassona e stracciatella (Rigatoni with beef ragu and stracciatella cheese). OMG, if you haven't tried the stracciatella cheese on anything then please stop what you're doing and write a note to pick some up at your local deli or try some at a good Italian restaurant sometime. Sooooo creamy and spreadable and goes with many things from pasta to bread to salads. The ragu was done just right with tender pieces of beef throughout. Some of the best I've had. My wife and daughter each had the Fettuccine cacio, pepe e tartufo di Norcia (Homemade fettuccine with Pecorino cheese, pepper and truffle of norcia). This dish was creamy and tasty with just the right amount of saltiness. They loved their dishes as well. Definitely try the dessert while here. During our dinner we kept seeing others around us getting the desserts and knew we were hooked into trying some ourselves. The one that caught my eye was the mousse shaped like an egg with a hard chocolate shell around it, served on a cookie sorta like the Girl Scout Thin Mint ones but larger. We ordered it, and shared it. It is called Pigna del Necci and it was sublime. The Tartelletta al Limone was the other one we tried. It was a lemon tart with meringue flambe. This one was tasty as well and the four of us polished both desserts off easily. This place is very cool and deserves a visit by you if in the area. Ciao!

Yelp
Very friendly service and lots of fresh options. We sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance of Pigneto. The food was great!

Yelp
This place was a beautiful and charming restaurant in Pigneto. We stayed in the neighborhood and it was walking distance from our apartment. The staff is friendly and accommodating. We ate here twice on our trip and tried a number of dishes and we loved them all! Our favorites: salmon ceviche taco, white truffle pasta and roasted octopus! I highly recommend going!

Yelp
Inviting outdoor space & cool, casual vibes at this restaurant in Pigneto. Came here during Easter weekend so it was busy but service was top notch. While I don't normally do this, I went a bit wild & ordered a primi AND a secondi. Good decision. Wonderful decision. The primi was the orrechiete (ear shaped pasta) with broccoli & sausage. The flavors were delicately delicious with each ingredient adding its distinctive note to the symphony. Next up for the secondi round, I took a wildcard and went with the trippa alla romana (tripe). Never had tripe before in my life but was excited to try it. This dish was an EXCELLENT introduction. It was delicious and would not remind anyone of animal stomach lining unless of course you knew or googled it beforehand.

Yelp
We found this hidden gem of a restaurant around the corner of our Airbnb and it turned out to be amazing.! The pasta, salmon appetizer and basically everything in the menu was out of this world! We ended up eating dinner here most of our stay in Rome. The service and entertainment were very good as well. Wow!!!!

Yelp
Waiting for Pier Paolo, we had a few delicious cocktails. Started with a veggie plate (quite rare in Rome) and followed with the best Caccio e Pepe (with a touch of mint) of my Roman holidays. All in all a very good experience with a special dedicace to our various waitresses

Yelp
Charming terrase in a neighborhood where we see only the locals. The non-alcoholic cocktail that the waiter recommended was yummy(not on the menu). Food was good but the portion was small(main dish), good quality though.

Yelp
One of the most pleasant outdoor spots in Rome, Necci really hits the spot for its charming atmosphere at lunch or early evening. It's an institution in Pigneto, being one of the old guard - one of the first places to open in this area's renaissance. Its leafy terrace attracts an interesting crowd, and its quite an oasis in the heart of built-up Pigneto. The staff are friendly and the menu changes quite regularly. On my most recent visit, for a Monday lunch, I sat outside, with the waiters more than happy to adjust the electric canopy to keep us in the shade. The bread was varied and excellent. The seats were pretty uncomfortable. I ordered a spaghettoni with anchovies, butter and peppers. It was very buttery with big chunks of pepper, but I couldn't taste the anchovy. Filling, acceptable, but nothing special. This place is ideal for a drink but on my recent visit, I can't say that the food is outstanding.

Yelp
Ooo look at me, first reviewer in English. This place is great for breakfast, the cornetti are made in their laboratory right across the street, but get there early to make sure they still have some. I prefer the one with semi di pappavero (poppy seeds). My friend used to live around the block from here and their patio outdoor seating was always a nice place to discuss shenanigans from the night before and recover from hangovers. Their cappuccino are perfection and the barista was always super friendly. The only place I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because the cashier (1st stop- pay before you order) ALWAYS acted as if it was such a bother that any customer need to pay. Seriously, you're a cashier, it wouldn't hurt to smile or say hello to your customers (but I guess I have an over-friendly American expectation of good customer service). I've also had dinner here and, like the breakfasts, everything was always the best quality even if the service was sometimes lacking. Bravi! ma sorridete un po', no?

Yelp
You close your eyes in direct simple ecstasy at such well done simple classic Roman cuisine. Saltimboca, lamb, vegetables, deconstructed tiramisu. All on a rustic garden terrace that's been there since 1924.

Yelp
This place is beautiful - we sat on a secluded terrace nestled among the trees in trendy Pigneto. I had the roast octopus which tasted wonderful, though it looked a bit lonely on the plate. It was hard to pick a wine off the list, but the waitress' recommendation was magnificent - probably the best wine I had in Rome. It's really the setting and atmosphere that makes this place special though, one I'll never forget.

Yelp
Great bar with a fantastic vibe! Sat here for a few hours and enjoyed the tapas and wines as the sun went down on our last night in Rome.

Yelp
We went wondering around the neighborhood exploring and turned on Yelp and found this wonderful restaurant. Great atmosphere with good outdoor covered seating and lots of vegetation. Great food, charm, and ambiance !

Yelp
We enjoyed lovely desserts and drinks. The kitchen was closed so we didn't have dinner. I became sick from sitting in a cloud of cigarette smoke. It was quite disgusting. But the greenery was picturesque and the neighborhood was cool, lots of street art.

Yelp
Unfortunately one of the worst places we ate in Rome. Besides the slow, indifferent service, the food was awful. We started with an oyster app. It smelled so bad we did not attempt to eat it. Returning it resulted in zero replacement. Second course was a shrimp dish. The result, a lukewarm shrimp terrine so badly eviscerated it could have been goldfish meat. Disappointing. Next up was a lobster risotto. Super hard rice, and yes I'm familiar with al dente and risotto. Just fishy, under seasoned and there was not a scrap of lobster. I could go on, but this would be redundant.

Yelp
I was there for lunch. I had a parmigiana and a mini veggy quiche. The food was alright. The service on the other hand was embarrassing. If not for the tradition and the lucky geographical location, this business would collapse. It's a shame that italians dong do anything to push a bit their standards.

Yelp
Great cafe!! Bit pricy but it has good coffee and a really delicious almond and chocolate cake. The baristas are lovely, and the Pasolini theme just makes it a unique roman spot.
