"This family-run spot makes east London’s finest lahmacun, amongst other things. Bread, as it should always be, is key here. It’s rolled out fresh in front of you, verging on transparently thin, before being baked to a crispy but perfectly chewy consistency. "Now rebranded as ’Clapton Kebab House, this tiny kebab shop in Clapton once freshly rolled out east London’s finest lahmacuns and it probably still holds that title. Though ownership appears to have switched up and things can be a little less consistent. All being said, their lahmacuns are still made fresh, the flatbread paper thin, and the ratio of crisp to chew still excellent." - jake missing
"Upstream of P.Franco on Lower Clapton Road, Neden Urfa was easy to walk by even when it had bright yellow frontage. Now the family who run it have renovated the shop with a modern grey facade advertising “kebabs and burgers” it’s even easier. Nothing really indicate that the kebabs here are anything beyond the usual nighttime hunger savers, but order a skewer and one of the sons will whip up a lavash bread on the spot quicker than a pizzaiolo. In a few crucial gestures, a great kebab the size and thinness of a clarinet will be presented, elastic and floury, with fat from the meat juice soaking into the lavash and acidity from the array of house made salads dotted with sumac. For those who have been to Paris’ iconic Urfa Durum, a kindred spirit near Chateau d’Eau station which gets the respect it deserves from the French, this is the closest thing London has." - Jonathan Nunn
