"This small group of four local Jamaican restaurants has been going strong since founder Earl Chinn opened his first location in D.C. in 1979. Chinn named his restaurant after a resort town in the northwestern part of the island. The most popular dishes include curried chicken with cabbage, rice, and peas, and flaky patties stuffed with beef, vegetables, or chicken. Wash it all down with coconut water or Ting, a grapefruit soda that’s popular in Jamaica." - Lenore Adkins

Google
Stopped by here on a whim after leaving the bank. I got the jerk chicken sandwich and a curry chicken patty with coco bread. The jerk chicken sandwich was okay I thought the jerk chicken was a bit dry and the seasoning wasn't the most authentic but not bad. The coco bread was good, nice and fresh and had that soft pillowy texture. I enjoyed the chicken curry patty, I like my patty inside the coco bread. The inside of the restaurant was really clean and service was quick. I would definitely come back to get a patty and coco bread for a quick snack.

Google
Rather salty. Take care when applying the extra sauce. Cabbage was laden with sugar. Skip the "meal" and go for the protein instead. Patty tasted good, but it was mostly paste inside with little beef

Google
food was really good. had the beef & chicken curry patty, so tasty! also had the jerk chicken sandwich. it was kinda unique with the thick bread and the flavor was mostly sweet, but it hit pretty well. unfortunately there were not a lot of dine in tables.

Google
Negril is such a good place it’s very appetizing. My favorite things to get is a spinach patty and a veggie patty and also cocoa bread and sour sop negrill is so good and the food is great and fresh cocoa bread is so thic and big

Google
This is my 5th time ordering from this Restaurant and my husband and I loved it! The sweet plantains are always super sweet and warm and fresh and the chicken is super juicy. Is a bit spicy but is so good and addictive . And the stuff is very helpful and friendly, I call to make a request for my order and they help right away so I definitely recommend this place .10/10 😁

Google
This restaurant has been a staple here for years. Food is so fresh and prices fair. I always get their patties. They have catering available and pick up is very easy with their see through lockers

Google
Food was delicious. I had the jerk chicken sandwich and shared some wings. Definitely on the spicy side. I loved it but even the mild option was too much for a friend with dietary restrictions. Recommend for take out and ordering ahead, especially on Saturday night

S Thai

Google
The jerk chicken sandwich and fish sandwich used to be SO good until they decided to change the sauce. The sandwiches were amazing back in 2018 and you know what they say, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Welp, the sandwiches aren’t as good as they used to be because of the change in recipe. The sandwiches might not be consistent, but the price increase sure is.

Yelp
Beautiful young lady at the register always helps me with a a beautiful smile. idk if this is why I come back or the food because it's good af.

Julianna K.

Yelp
food was so so tasty and the service was so nice and sweet, didn't take too long either, the ambiance gave a Jamaican feel and wasn't overbearing and full of color

Abe K.

Yelp
I'm a man who enjoys all cuisine and Jamaican is no exception. However, I don't have a whole lot of experience with Jamaican food. Sure I've tried it here and there and I've tried cooking it but never been to Jamaica and don't really have a basis of what it should taste like. That being said, I recently saw on a reddit thread that Negril is one of the best in the DMV so I had to try it. Following Larry's lead (aka what I like to call the STAMP guy), I ordered a beef patty, coco bread, and jerk chicken platter with rice and beans and cabbage. The beef patty was nice. The filling was tasty and the pastry was flaky and warm. I do wish the meat to pastry ratio was slightly better. I felt the thin layer of meat was just a tease. (4/5) The coco bread was incredible. It was my first time trying coco bread and honestly, had no idea what to expect. So it was to my surprise receiving this giant roll and each bite was soft, sweet, and so delicious. The surface felt like a baby's butt and had this ever so slightly salty coating that made me want to savor each bite. For something that looked so ordinary, I could have snacked on this coco bread all day. (5/5) The jerk chicken platter was finger-licking good wow! Honestly, I could have probably had more spice to it but I love everything spicy. I also can see it being too spicy for a more bland eater so I thought it was fine. The jerk rub is so tasty and love that they give you a little more on the side. I also really enjoyed the rice and beans with the gravy on top and I was a fan of the cabbage too, which Larry thought was just ok. (5/5) The workers were really friendly and the vibe just felt really welcoming. I'm definitely coming back here and sooner than later!

Yelp
I go for the patties solely! Not the best in the world but it does the trick when I have a craving. As a carribbean myself maybe I'm just a bit more picky. I can't speak on the other food items

Linthia W.

Yelp
Good Food, awesome service, friendly and courteous staff. Shouting out Ms Verna and Judy

Yelp
This Caribbean spot I went to is nostalgic for me. I've been going here since I was 12 years old. A rack (a lot) of us thought this spot fell off...including ME!!When I went back...I found out I was wrong. LET'S GO!! . Where I am: @negrileats . Location Reviewed: 965 Thayer Ave., Silver Spring M.D. . Menu Includes: Jerk, & Curry Chicken, Goat, Brown Stew, Oxtail, Coco Bread, Jerk Wings, Soups, Chicken, Shrimp, Veggie, & Beef Patties, Roti, Sandwiches, Rum Cake, Sorrel, & MORE!! . Items Reviewed: Their Jerk Chicken Platter (Half a chicken with jerk gravy-$.55, cabbage, & rice & peas $11.50). STAMP!! The chicken was tender, & more well seasoned than spicy. STAMP those rice & peas ESPECIALLY with that jerk gravy drizzled on top!! The Cabbage...DECENT. It was ok. Their Beef Patty (a flaky pastry filled with jerk spiced beef $2.85). STAMP!! I may be bias with this one, because the taste took me back to my childhood. Their Coco Bread ($1.85). STAMP!! Soft, warm, & fluffy...just like I like my ladies!! Their Sorrel, & Pink Lemonade ($4.25 each). STAMP!! Fresh, refreshing, & that Sorrel was THICK!! Their Curry Shrimp Roti Platter (with onions, green peppers, a seasoned wrap, & an extra curry gravy-$.55-$15.99). LIKE THAT!! An aromatic curry, a spiced wrap, & plump shrimp!! . Customer Service: On Point . Online Navigation: Easy . Parking: Rough. . Recommendations: The Jerk Chicken WITH an extra jerk gravy-important. The beef patty, the bread, Roti, & drinks!! . Yelp
Good service, good food. Food delivered very hot. Chicken Roti was delicious. Beef patties very good. This is my go-to restaurant.

Cheryl T.

Yelp
4 stars if you stick w the basics --patties, cocoa bread, etc Friday afternoon. My parking God was on duty (as usual) and I found a spot right in front. Ordered online from my phone and waited til notified that my order was ready to go inside to pick up. Said would be ready in 15-20 mins. Was ready sooner. Small space. Largely carry out. Would not want to eat there given how busy it was--cold weather and people constantly opening the door. -Beef patty 5/5. Flavorful, nice spice (not fiery hot) flaky buttery tasting crust. It didn't make it home! -Plantain 4/5 soft, sweet, tender. -Shrimp roti 2/5 lacked any flavor, was soupy, roti packed on the side was tough and rubbery like it had been microwaved too long. Ate it but didn't enjoy it. Would not order this again. Unsure what the sauce was for.

Abiba S.

Yelp
Was craving Caribbean food while exploring Maryland and decided to check out Negril after seeing all the excellent reviews on google. The restaurant itself is small and more of a grab and go kind of place but they do have some seating available for dinning in or waiting for pick up. I ordered the jerk chicken dinner with oxtail gravy/sauce spooned on the top (amazing hack) and a side of plantains. I also ordered a slice of the rum cake even though I'm typically used to the class "black rum cake". The rum cake here was yellow and tasted like a basic Duncan Hines box cake mix. Now onto the meal. The Jerk chicken was absolutely delicious, and the meat itself was juicy. The plantains were cut rather large which I didn't really like but the taste itself was great overall. The dinner portion size was very generous and I had left overs for the next two days. Overall the food here was solid. I recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

Yelp
The first impression you get as you walk in is how this place is clean and organized. There are a few tables and chairs, but I think this is more of a take out place. The staff was professional and very efficient. They work as a team to fulfill the orders. I saw some staff members who came out from the back to assist the cashier in taking orders/packing orders/ etc. This place is run like a well-oiled machine. The second thing you notice is how this whole place smelled aaamaazziiinngg.. if you came in not hungry, you would be, after smelling the delicious home cooked smell, wafting from their semi-open kitchen. Boyfriend and I came in hungry, and what do we always do? We order more than what we're able to eat. To start our meal, we had coco bread, beef patty, and jerk chicken patty. I love the patties! They were crusty on the outside, yet it's soft and sweet on the inside, and the beef patty was slightly spicy, which I loved. My boyfriend preferred the jerk chicken patty. I tasted the chicken as well. It was more mild in flavor. I prefer the punch of flavors from the beef filling. Moving on to our main dishes. I had the braised oxtail with pinto beans and carrots. OMG! The oxtail meat was falling off the bone, and I was sucking that collagen up from the bone! This dish was cooked long and slow, you can tell. The beefy flavor of the oxtail was the main star of this show. It was hearty and homey at the same time. The seasoning had that smoky, earthy flavor that blended harmoniously with the natural flavor of the beef. Let's say beef bouiginion for France as oxtail stew for Jamaica. By the way, the side sauces definitely elevated the dish. I love the spicy one. I mixed it all up with the oxtail, rice, and pickled cabbage. I wasn't able to taste my boyfriend's. He ate it all up. So it must be that good! This is definitely a gem here in DT Silver Spring. I've came here before and I'm surprised I haven't left a review yet. You won't regret it folks!

Ashley L.

Yelp
I definitely recommend getting food from here! I got the curry chicken and oxtail with rice and cabbage, it was super flavorful and the portion size was perfect for the price. don't hesitate if your thinking about getting the jerk chicken patty too, if was delicious!

Sandra S.

Yelp
Food is decent, order early to avoid long wait times and running out of food. Oxtails are very good but small pieces. The jerk wings and curry goat are really good as well.

Starvel D.

Yelp
I was in the area so I couldn't resist the opportunity to stop by and get my favorite sandwich, the jerk chicken sandwich on cocoa bread. First of all, anything on cocoa bread taste delicious. The jerk dark meat topped with poppy seed dressing & lettuce always hit the spot. I once tried the same sandwich from another Jamaican restaurant and it was not the same. This is the my favorite place to get this sandwich. The last time I had it, I remember there being just a bit more meat & it was a few bucks cheaper, but inflation I guess. At least the taste is consistent.

Courtney R.

Yelp
The patties are good but I can't recommend anything else. Shrimp curry and the peas and rice are just okay. Small interior but convenient to downtown silver spring I do really appreciate that they have individual lockers to store the food that you have to confirm your last name to get your order!

Tim M.

Yelp
The food was good, had the ox tail and curried goat. This is a carry out place. No tables, but a few table tops under front window.

Kamirn C.

Yelp
Food was decent. Despite description. All meat patties are spicy. Sorrel is super sweet. Oxtail nice and tender. Customer service was great! Will return.

Andrew K.

Yelp
3.5 stars for me, seems more of a takeout place and I appreciated they had warming stations if you order carryout ahead of time. I loved their oxtail dinner here that comes with beans and rice and cabbage. The beef patty was not bad but I wasn't a fan of their curry chicken patty. The coco bread was fresh and buttery and I would order that again. The jerk drumettes lunch special was pretty good and very tender but I wish it was spicier. Overall, not a bad place to try some jamaican food and I would come back if I was in the area.

Arista W.

Yelp
These wings were so tender, juicy, and had the perfect amount of spice! I was sweating eating these wings but that's what I wanted lol. I got the wing platter with rice and peas and cabbage. The cabbage was fresh and the rice and beans were cooked to perfection. They also gave me a hearty serving of food. I also tried the oxtail which was just as delicious and the beef patties were perfect. Ordered online and my food was ready to go when I got there. I also love the pick up system. They put your food in an enclosed space with your name on it, making pickup easy for everyone. Prices are good and the place is clean.

Marc L.

Yelp
I got a jerk chicken sandwich and a jerk chicken patty! The jerk chicken sandwich was delicious as usual! I've been going to Negril for 20+ years and 99% of the time the food is delicious! The jerk chicken sandwich, which was savory and full of spicy flavors. The jerk chicken patty is good, not the best I've ever had , but had a decent amount of chicken with a fair amount of seasoning. The edges of the patty were soft and not overcooked. Overall another good experience when ordering through Uber eats.

Nyla S.

Yelp
Food never disappoints!! However, this location is ALWAYS crowded. I ordered online on a Friday night and still had to wait about 20-30 minutes in store for my order to be ready.

Brittney W.

Yelp
In February, my job's district manager asked all offices to order from a Black Owned Business and I settled on Negril since they met everyone's dietary restrictions and are not far from our Bethesda office. We made a group for for 12 people and everything came out perfectly! No one complained about the food, they did a great job by labeling all the items and we all left work STUFFED! Thank you Negril! We appreciate you serving the community.

David J.

Yelp
I've only ever had Negril delivered so I can't speak to the restaurant experience; however, the food is definitely superior to most of the other caribbean restaurants I've tried nearby. The jerk chicken (even after a 40 min delivery) was juicy and flavorful. I appreciate that its not just a sauce on it but you can see the herbs, spices and the peppers. The flavor can be a bit inconsistent since the two times I've ordered from there had slightly different taste. Some people might be turned off by dealing with all the bones, but I prefer bone-in chicken anyway! The beef patty is also fantastic with a flaky crust, but I do wish it was a little bit spicier. I did appreciate that they include gravy and extra jerk seasoning to every order so that you can adjust the food to your preference.

Alleah S.

Yelp
I'm never disappointed when ordering takeout from them. The food is always hot and delicious!

Simone B.

Yelp
Everything I ordered was great (curry goat, jerk chicken dinner, patties and plantains ), except for the fish sandwich. My review is based upon the escovitch fish sandwich only. The breading was thicker than the one piece of fish in the sandwich. I understand the need to have a light batter but this was EXTRA. The batter along with the delicious coco bread was too much-I hardly taste the fish, but the escovitch mix was on point. Maybe in the future bread the fish in the store rather than the frozen pre breaded fillet. I drove about 25 miles based on a personal recommendation to try the food. Overall, no complaints on the wait-was worth it for the majority of my meal. I wish the staff was more knowledgeable on a la carte items (Dahl pourie) which I really wanted to try. If I'm in the area I will try the food again as I'm hoping it was a one off.

Solomon O.

Yelp
The food is well prepared. The cashier's are very cautious. The waiting time is short and the environment is clean.

Leslie C.

Yelp
Coco bread was delicious dipped in the ox tail sauce. Everything was so tender and juicy. Not a lot of places to sit and eat but we didn't mind. It was super busy at 3pm on a Saturday. Great food!

Xavier I.

Yelp
I've gotten takeout from here everytime and everytime they have always delivered with great expectations. The jerk chicken sandwich is AMAZING. The carrot cake is delicious. The coco bread and jerk chicken patty are both great. This is definitely my favorite Jamaican restaurant in Maryland.

Binyam Z.

Yelp
Great food great people very very nice and easy pickup experience no need to wait on a line or ask a stuff your food will be placed in a safe glass locker all you need is to press your last name initials. Best overall

Sabrina P.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and decided to give a try again. I enjoyed the jerk chicken sandwich, it used to be $5 about two years ago but now it's $8 on their Uber eats menu. I ordered the jerk chicken with cabbage and rice & peas. The rice and peas were a bit dry. The chicken was well seasoned & spicy. I would have preferred a piece of chicken breast but that's a personal preference. The meal came with two chicken thighs and a leg. Also, the beef pattie was delicious.

L P.

Yelp
I would give 1 1/2 stars if it were available. I tried: (1) Curry Chicken, (2) Jerk Chicken, (3) Curried Vegetables and (4) Chicken Fricassee. Negril catered the event and food delivered in take out containers. Very bland, relatively flavorless. With LOTS and LOTS of rice. Very stingy with the brown peas (I doubt if there were more than ten (10) individual "peas" in any container). There was some amount of coleslaw (also flavorless). I give one star because the rice and chicken were generally just OK and appeared to have some sort of seasoning on them. The Jerk Chicken, however was overcooked and very dry. Overall, the meals were remarkably So-So". I'm tempted to wonder 'how does this place stay in business?' But, I suspect that the meal prices and excessive amount of rice-per-container throw off plenty of profit. One more thing. The carry out bags look pretty good, but the handles break away from the paper sides fairly easily. In short, not a good experience. There is room for improvement.

Joann C.

Yelp
Happy this place warms my tummy and heart. My fam enjoyed the ox tail, jerk chicken, rum cake, beef patties and coco bread.... Yummy!! I will drive 40 mins for this food..

Jeffrey W.

Yelp
Restaurant was clean.Menus were nice and bright, Prices were fantastic. The food was great and the wait staff was nice

Gina H.

Yelp
Food excellent service very friendly and prompt ambiance was great for a 80% carryout clientel. Ill be back just bec. I was treated well with a welcome smile. Food was done perfect fish was moist and good plantain was the best. Thanks Negril you made my day!!!

Marcus A.

Yelp
The beef pattie and coco bread is amazing. The bread is so buttery and soft and the beef pattie is very flaky and flavorful

Wilma M.

Yelp
Just about every Saturday I go here for my jerk, chicken and beef patty. I love Jamaican food it's more of a carry out place but that's fine. I usually order the Jerk chicken cabbage, no rice and peas and fried plantains.

Raven A.

Yelp
This is my second time eating here and it's been the best place I've found of here for Jamaican food !! I've only had take out & everything was so hot and tasty!! They also give you a ton of food for the price. Soo good !!

Shanni O.

Yelp
This was my first plate food from Negril. I normally purchase the pattie and coco bread but I was craving and wanted to try something different . The food looked great and I was excited to try it . I got to Negril at 11:00am and they have a lunch special with about 4 different options . I went with the Fricassee (Brown Stew) Chicken, rice and peas , and the steamed cabbage. The chicken was tender however it lacked flavor . The rice also was flavorless . The cabbage was regular. I was hoping to taste some type of seasoning but this dish missed the mark. I would definitely not recommend this dish to anyone unless this is the only place open .

Ms R.

Yelp
Worst jamaican food I've ever had. Not authentic at all and not even tasty (such an insult to Jamaica). The vegetable stew and curry vegetable lacks flavor and spice. While roti is not jamaican, they have it on the menu, but the staff don't even know what it is. I asked which veggies were in the vegetable roti (usually it's channa, aloo, pumpkin or greens). The guy tells me broccoli and beans! then he tried to mansplain me and asked if I knew what roti meant (yes, I eat it often. Apparently they don't know what it is!) how is anyone eating here?? Do they not know any better? Make the drive and go to the jerk hut in college park - much better.

Marcus T.

Yelp
Hands down the best Jamaican food in the dmv area! Every time I'm in the area, Negril is the first spot I hit up.

Carole B.

Yelp
Love the food the coco bread can't be matched. Wish there was a Negril in Baltimore The soups and all the entrees are delicious and well prepared

Tim M.

Yelp
Negril Jamaican Eatery is a great, not so hidden gem, just ogg Georgia Ave. The Jamaican Patties are great and made in store. All the food is delicious and the staff is prompt, courteous, and grateful to serve you. Every time I'm nearby, I have to stop. If for nothing else, other than the meat pies. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed

Gregory F.

Yelp
friendly and timely service good food Excellente Sympa Agréable Good suggofrom the person who was helping me Thank you

KnowMe Da K.

Yelp
Food is always tasteful Ordered thru door dash and even with the driver making other deliveries my food is still hot when i receive it

Franklyn M.

Yelp
My family and I have patronized Negril -The Jamsican Eatery - for YEARS, from when i was a child!! From the beef patties and coco bread, to the the soups, to the escovitch fish, I have never had anything but an enjoyable food experience, no matter which location I have gone to. The people, some of whom I have seen/known for years, are always friendly and welcoming, and I have introduced friends and family alike to the food, always with positive reviews. And, now there is a new generation of my family enjoying the fabulous food NEGRIL sells to the DMV! Kudos to Ms. Judy and the Chin Family for continuing to provide a welcome taste of HOME to so many who enjoy GOOD carribbean fare, those with roots and without! The Musgraves

Dana M. A.

Yelp
They never disappoint. They're always friendly and professional. I'm so glad they're located within walking distance. Of where I live. They become one of my favorite neighborhood foodies.

A. A.

Yelp
Always the best freshly made cocoa bread and Patties. Even tho it's busy service is reasonable fast. Best order in advanced.

Samantha F.

Yelp
Patties were fresh and sturdy , taste so good. Will definitely order again . I recommend Negril anytime

Lady M.

Yelp
Great place to get my weekend meals. Been going there for yrs...One of my fav Caribbean spots. I always order, the Friccassee chicken.

Jo Ann J.

Yelp
Great food and service is always cordial, store is always clean and well lit. Prices are affordable.

Imani B.

Yelp
Picked up a few patties and some sorrel. Sorrel on point - rich flavor, and nice and gingery! The shrimp and veggie patties were also nice!
