Watch: The Restaurant That Caters to Rome’s Filipino Community | Eater

"An unassuming Filipino spot in Rome that puts the emphasis squarely on the food. The menu highlights perfectly prepared pork and fish—pork frequently served with skin fried to a crisp—and excellent, hearty soups. Dishes showcase Filipino flavor profiles, favoring sourness and sweetness and embracing the umami funk of fish sauce; a sour, tangy seasonal vegetable soup sourced from a local Filipino farmer is called out as a standout. The overall vibe is straightforward and food-focused rather than flashy." - Eater Video

Google
An incredible Filipino restaurant located in the Prati neighborhood of Rome. I love 🇵🇭 food and remembered Rome has a sizeable population so I looked up a place and found this. I made the trip up and despite opening nearly an hour after their posted opening time (electrical issues), I quickly forgot about it once inside. Beautifully decorated, great staff and some of the most flavorful food I've had in forever. I can't wait to revisit soon!

I had a wonderful experience here. Wide selection, food was absolutely delicious and restaurant had a friendly, modern, spacious atmosphere. The perfect dinner stop after a late visit to the Vatican. Highly recommend.

Great dishes - felt like home. We came here all the way from Dallas TX we had a server from another restaurant recommend this place and it was great.

Dining at Neighborhood Filipino Restaurant in Rome was the perfect way to end our unforgettable day visiting the Vatican! As a family, we were thrilled to find a taste of home (or close to it) in the heart of Italy. The warm and welcoming atmosphere made us feel like we were part of the neighborhood, and the staff went above and beyond to make our dinner special. The food was absolutely incredible—authentic, flavorful, and made with so much love. We started with lumpia, which were crispy and delicious, and then moved on to adobo and sinigang, which were both bursting with flavor. The kids loved the pancit, and we couldn’t get enough of the leche flan for dessert. Every dish reminded us of the rich culinary traditions of the Philippines. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable, especially for such high-quality food. The cozy ambiance, combined with the friendly service, made our family dinner feel like a celebration. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring the Vatican. If you’re in Rome and craving Filipino food (or just want to try something new), this restaurant is a must-visit. We’re so grateful for the wonderful experience and can’t wait to come back on our next trip! Salamat, Neighborhood Filipino Restaurant! 🇵🇭❤️

Google
This place is a hidden gem just outside the walls of Vatican. The food was delicious. The sisig came out sizzling. The big bowl of sinigang (one order) was more than enough to feed 4 people. Will definitely recommend to anyone looking for that home cook meal when away from home (Philippines). DINE IN, you'll be glad you did.

Google
I was so excited to find a Filipino Restaurant while vacationing here in Rome! It was just a block away from our Airbnb, which was a plus. We ate here 3 times during our vacation, and it’s definitely our favorite Filipino restaurant by far! We tried the two other Filipino restaurants nearby, and they don’t even compare to how delicious the foods were compared to Neighborhood’s! We ordered different items every time we came here, and it did not disappoint! Everything was so delicious and fresh! The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, always greeted us with a smile. They took their time talking to us (when it’s not super busy), and they made us feel like we’re home. This place made me miss my mom’s cooking, but it’s definitely the next best thing. An amazing option if you get tired of eating Italian food while on vacation. Didn’t think our favorite restaurant in Rome would be a Filipino one, but it’s just that great! Maraming salamat po! Babalik ulit kami pag nandito sa Rome!

Google
Our family came to Italy not expecting to eat Filipino food! What a pleasant find. The food was great and the service was friendly! We’re here two more days and I’m already thinking about going back!

Google
The food was amazing and affordable. We made sure to have Filipino food while visiting Vatican City since it was nearby. The restaurant had a good amount of space, was clean, and well-organized—a must-visit for anyone craving Filipino cuisine. My husband tried beef caldereta for the first time and really enjoyed it, while I had pork belly. The owner was accommodating, and the service was excellent. My phone was almost dead, I didn't have my charger and they kindly allowed me to charge my phone at their counter while we enjoyed our meal.

Yelp
this place serves the best Filipino food, it's 15 minute walk from Vatican, place is clean and cozy.. ube ice cream is legit.. home made by owner...will definitely go back

Yelp
After a few days of eating really good Italian food, my Filipino tastebuds wanted Filipino food. Lucky for us there is a handful of Filipino restaurants near the Vatican. Our go to is Neighborhood Filipino Restaurant which is known amongst Filipino locals and travelers alike. They have tasty home cooked Filipino food and even had halo halo which refreshed us from the Rome heat. They have 2 locations in Rome. Both are good. We had their sisig, lumpia shanghai, and pinakbet. All so good that I forgot to take a photo! :) **PROs: --Good service l --Clean restaurant --Tasty dishes --Homemade ube ice cream with your halo halo **CONs: --On a very busy day, it may take a while with orders

Yelp
Been all over Italy from Venice, Florence and Amalfi coast and enjoyed the authentic Italian pasta, pizza and Florentine steaks but once we got To Rome I was just really craving Asian, In particular, Filipino food. We tried several dishes including Kare kare and bulalo and oh boy did it hit the spot! Service was definitely top notch here very friendly but Filipinos are known for being friendly and happy people in general. The ambiance is nice, clean friendly and festive. Only thing is we had to go downstairs to get to restaurant so a little challenging but other ways doable!

Yelp
When in Rome, do as the Romans do and get some pinoy food at Neighborhood Filipino Restaurant! As a Filipino-American, I couldn't not come here especially because where I live in Sicily, there are zero Filipino restaurants. Yes, I do cook Filipino food myself, but it's comforting to know there is an accessible restaurant that can serve you dishes you don't normally make or just feeling lazy. I got me some garlic rice, pork liempo, sisig, and pinakbet. Everything was good and I only wish I had more stomach space to eat more. The kare kare looked good. For dessert, a halo halo is a must. I would highly recommend checking out this joint if you're in Rome and looking for a good non-Italian meal.

Yelp
Hands down, MUST EAT at this restaurant when you're in Rome. We received friendly and courteous customer service. Food was delicious! It was a welcomed break from eating pizza and pasta every day. Recommend the Lechon Kawali Kare Kare and Sinigang Nababoy.

Yelp
Filipino food in Italy, I say yes! This place is a must try. It seemed a little weird getting Filipino food in Italy, but it's a good change from the pasta and pizza. We went for a late lunch and got seated quickly. I wanted to try everything on the menu, but settled on a few dishes. We ordered the Canton Pancit, Lechon and BBQ Pork Belly, oh and had to start with lumpia. The lumpia was yummy fried goodness and a great way to start the meal. The pancit was flavorful! The lechon was crunchy, but probably not my favorite dish. But then BBQ Pork Belly was amazing, the meat was tender and moist and just the right amount of sauce. I would highly recommend checking this place out!!

Yelp
We visited Rome and we are surprised to find a very good, well recommended Filipino restaurant. The food is very good .

Yelp
Every time we're in Rome, we check out the Pinoy food. We try to eat here every chance we get and a few years ago, we didn't realize it was the day they're close so we go to the other restaurant. But I should have done this review before. Ambience and aesthetics just screams kapampangan's strict attention to design and cleanliness. We got to speak with the owners and as a family of kapampangan lineage, I know how critical they are with food esp Pinoy food. We're a party of 6, we ordered 8 dishes, drinks all around, turon and homemade ube ice cream. Everything was delicious!! At the of our lunch we got to talking our Pampanga roots, and they're from the same town as my husband's, I can't wait to tell him! Bottom line, they quenched our cravings for food despite the gastronomy of delicious gourmet food in Europe, Rice is life indeed.

Yelp
My Wife and I needed a break from having Italian food everyday, so we decided on some Filipino comfort food. The place is clean, modern, excellent lighting and service / staff was friendly and spoke English fluently. We ordered Garlic Rice, Lechon Kiwalli Kare Kare and Pork Sinigan. For dessert we had Turin and Halo Halo. Every single dish that came out of the kitchen was amazing. I would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
I didn't want to eat Filipino food while we were in Italy but my fam needed a change from pizzas and pastas and we came across this place on yelp and I'm glad we did. We got seated right away, the owner is so nice, and they are Kapampangan like us so my mom was excited. We ordered lumpia na gulay, sisig and daing na isda. It was all delicious! We ordered halo halo as well and that was good too! Will definitely come back next time!

Yelp
One of the best Filipino Restaurants in Rome that even locals are starting to frequent and love. The one in Via Aurelia is smaller than the one in Via Germanico, but the food is the same great tasting Filipino fare. My favorites are the "Kare Kare" with salty "bagoong" on the side (Ox-Tail/Tripe stew), "Bistek" (Beef Steak Filipino style with a lot of onions and just the right acidity), the Fish inihaw (grilled fish) is really fresh, moist, and always perfectly cooked and seasoned. For dessert, I love the Ube (purple tuber) cake! It is so moist, and baked with the right amount of sugar. My Italian friends love it and started to order it from the restaurant for their birthday parties too. I love the Ube ice cream as well. The Tocino and Longganisa are delicious with the rice. The Sisig and the Sinigang (sour broth) soup are a must! The service is attentive, and the price range fair.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended but my family and I were disappointed. We ordered several dishes but nothing stood out. The crispy pata was very tough and looked like overcooked and dry. Pricing is a bit high and gives small serving. We also ordered halo halo with Ube ice cream.. Ube Ice cream was excellent but halo halo was not.

Martina G.

Yelp
Food and service were great! My fiancé and I were getting a bit tired of Italian food everyday for two weeks and craved some Filipino food for comfort. We ordered a lot for 2 people. Sigig, Longanisa, Beef Caldaretta and San Miguel beer! Delicious. We would definitely come back again when we're in Rome.

Minch S.

Yelp
The staff was very friendly; place was clean and the food was amazing. We ordered sinigang and crispy pata. We came after a week of being in Italy and it was nice and comforting to have Filipino food. I would prefer the sinigang a bit more tangy but it was good.

Yelp
A real Capampangan restaurant in Rome. Being Capampangan, I've seen a lot of restaurants claim to be, but aren't. This is the real deal. Their chicken adobo and fish sinigang were delicious. So sad we only found them on our last day. We'll plan to eat here again on our next trip.

Yelp
A little hard to find at first, but once you got in, you were met with such a cute place. I've been missing Filipino food so much that I had to go here especially after all the other good reviews. We ordered rice, lechon kawali, lumpiang shanghai, tocino, and pancit bihon-canton. It was all delicious. The tocino was sweeter than other tocinos I've had, which made it so memorable! While the lumpia was good, I'm sorry but nothing will beat my Tita Jackie's lumpia. Otherwise, everything was amazing and left our tummies happy and full. Definitely recommend!!

L. D.

Yelp
This one is nicer and clean inside. Located in the basement as Sarap few meters pass. A bit more upscale than Sarap. It is ok, everything is ala carte. Bicol express is ok. Halo halo w ube and leche flan topping was good. She makes her own ube gelato for the topping.

Yelp
My first night in Rome and I end up getting Filipino food. Go figure. I'm so glad I did. I arrived shortly after they opened for the evening and was immediately seated. The staff were friendly and got me a menu right away, but didn't pressure me to hurry. The menu has all of the favorite, traditional Fil foods, even fried chicken! I got lumpia, garlic rice, adobo chicken and a bottle of water and the bull was only €15; it was more food than I should have eaten but it was so delicious I couldn't stop.

Yelp
My husband and I needed a change from all the pizza and pasta here in Rome so I found this place on Yelp and I couldn't be happier I did! This place is a gem and super clean. The lechon kawali was probably the best we've ever had. Not greasy or fatty, just perfect. The beef nilaga was amazing as well, but maybe it needed a bit more vegetables. This is one of the top Filipino restaurants I've been to.... And I'm from California where the Filipino restaurants are abundant! Thanks for a great last meal in Rome!

Yelp
Amazing food in Rome, Italy! This place is truly a gem in the middle of Rome! I'm so happy to have found this place in Yelp!

Yelp
I know what you're thinking... coming to Rome to eat Filipino food but it's a nice change of taste. It's about a 10-15 min walk from Vatican City. The dishes served here are your very basic Filipino dishes but made with authenticity. My parents were feeling a little homesick when we decided to stop eating pasta for dinner and were impressed with this place. Average 8€ per dish and they serve rice and soup (not very common in Italy. We ordered the lechon (crispy pork), pancit, nilaga (beef broth, cabbage, tender beef), and lumpia (Crispy egg rolls with pork). The service is quick from the moment you're sat and it's one of the cleanest restaurants I've been to.

Yelp
June 23rd 2022. Visiting Rome/Florence/Pisa/Paris from NYC and family from Dallas Texas. Went around 3PM on a weekday. The place was about 1/3 full. Food. I would say between Good and Very Good. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest, I would judge it to be around 6-7. I have tried Filipino restaurants from various parts of the world, so I would still consider this to be a good, decent score. Pricing. We ordered Crispy Pata (Rome charges $29 Eu, NYC charges $20. The serving portion at NYC is about 1.5 times more). Dinuguan was ok, other dishes were ok too. Serving portions were decent, not generous. I would consider pricing to be on the high side. Value for money - so so. Service. This is the area where the business can improve a lot. Our order was taken by a nice, kindly lady. She took our order, then transferred to another table to take their order. She seemed familiar with the clients as she took her time exchanging pleasantries with them. Our order took about an hour or more to arrive from the time that the order was taken to the time that food was served. It was later explained to me by another staff member that it takes at least 25 minutes to prepare the Crispy Pata. How on earth would we know that? Staff should have known and should have booked the order asap instead of dilly-dallying. The lack of concern and awareness is inexcusable specially for a setting where the business is only about 1/3 full. It shows an utter disregard and lack of respect for people's time (specially when they are hungry). We tried cancelling all our orders after about 40 minutes of waiting. Too late to cancel all but we were able to cancel desert. The restaurant should give the courtesy of allowing to cancel orders if a reasonable amount of time is not met. Important! Friendliness cannot replace timely service! What could have been a positive experience turned out quite negative. The young man managing the restaurant at the time tried to apologize but simply could not answer my question as to how the entire waiting scenario is deemed reasonable or acceptable. Poor guy cannot give a justifiable response specially after noting my observation as to how our server took her sweet time to book our order. We discovered this place by accident as we were looking for another Filipino restaurant that some locals (Filipino) suggested. We were checking out Jollibee when family members said that some locals suggested a Filipino restaturant. Wanting to patronize our own, we went and searched (walking more after a morning spent that included climbing the stairs to the top of St. Peter's Basilica - if you have done this then you know what state our minds, emotions, and stomachs would be in by the time we reached the restaurant. Conclusion: we should have just stayed at Jollibee, our expectations would at least have been manageable and we would not have experienced disappointment over a fellow Filipino's business.

Yelp
Neighborhood is a pleasant surprise for me and my wife while we're traveling in Rome. They really serve authentic Filipino dishes and they hail from one of the cities from the Philippines that delivers delicious Filipino dishes - Pampanga. Since we're already tired of the usual Roman dishes, we ordered several Filipino dishes and desserts- Pork soup (sinigang), grilled/hot plate (sisig) pork, stuffed squids, mixed vegetables (pinakbet), fried banana (turun) and mixed fruits (halohalo). We maybe biased since we're Filipinos, but I tell you Everything tastes great and delicious. They're cooked to order so you're getting hot and fresh food on your table, just like what your mother serves to you. Go ahead give them a try and check them out and you'll be halfway visiting Philippines! At least via their delicious and original Filipino food!

Yelp
Good Filipino food. Visiting Rome and wanted to try something Asian after all the pizza and past. Found this place on the way to the hotel. Tried the lechon kawali, the grilled chicken (which I wasn't expecting to have sauce over it, but it was quite good) and the pancit noodles. All were very tasty. Had the ube for dessert. Will definitely pass by this place again before leaving Rome.

Yelp
Was craving for Filipino food during our stay in Rome, and thank goodness our front desk is filipina and she was awesome to have recommended this restaurant. Hands down the best Filipino restaurant / food I had in awhile, way better than Max's and barrio fiesta in Los Angeles and maybe even in Manila. You can never go wrong with Pampanga style Filipino food and this family owned place in Rome is truly amazing. Must try when you're in Rome.

Fr. Robert B.

Yelp
Let's start with the cons: service CAN be a little slow when there are many guests, but this is only because they make the food WHEN ORDERED instead of letting it warm and dishing out out. This is EASILY the best Filipino food in Rome. No other place even comes close. I moved here a year ago from the SF Bay Area (Little Manila) so I was REALLY missing a place for "almost-home" Filipino food. The Neighborhood is that place. All your favorites are here and I've tried about a dozen dishes without disappointment. The prices are VERY reasonable and the portions are generous. Give them a try, you won't be sorry.

Yelp
Delicious Filipino food in Rome!! I've been loving all the Italian food, but I missed rice and vegetables and Neighborhood did not disappoint! There's also lots of meat options as well. I had sinigang isda and shrimp sayote, both delicious and fresh! Best Filipino food I've had besides my friend's mom's!
google avatar

Yelp
No ice for water/drinks. No knives given with our orders. A single napkin per dish?!! Waitress barely came around. My wife walked up there twice. The slim glass doors lead to stairs then the restaurant area. Men's bathroom has no lock either. I did like the inside of the restaruant. White walls and bricks. Black chairs with red or gray clothes. And free wifi.

Yelp
Very delicious Filipino food! My wife and I are from Los Angeles, and after 20 plus days in Europe, we started to crave Filipino food. We commuted about 45 minutes just to get here, and it was worth the commute. We ordered the lechon kawali - very crispy; fried chicken - tasted like jollibee; sinigang shrimp - nostalgic; and pancit.
google avatar

Victoria S.

Yelp
well what can I say? It's pinoy food in Italy! Great taste, ambiance is very nice, service is warm and friendly. Price is fairly reasonable. Highly recommended for pinoy travelers and vacationers if your craving Filipino food and you're in this side of town in Rome.

Yelp
It's sad to say that we commuted 20mins just to eat Filipino food only to be served by a rude and unprofessional server/owner (so she says). If you can't handle criticism on the food you serve then you can't grow as a business. And raising your voice to a customer and talking back just because you have a miscommunication is so inappropriate. It's a shame on how you handled the situation. We only had one issue on one out of five dishes that we ordered and you took it so horribly. You my dear are in a food business and being in a food business means dealing with people nice or not. I am known to have a long patience but the way you talked back and leave snarky comments in front of other customers to my family merits you this review. And so you know, the customers you had that day won't remember us but you and on how you handled yourself on that situation. Oh and so that you wont get into the same situation... Yelp
This is a wonderful, homey Filipino restaurant close to the Vatican. The prices are really good and portions are big. Plus, their lunch menu is very affordable and filling. This is family-owned and they're so friendly. I don't think you can go wrong with this place. Just make sure to pay attention when you enter the neighborhood because the entrance is small and easy to miss. However, once you're inside, the place opens up into a welcoming space. This will definitely be one of my go-to places when I want Asian food in Rome.

Yelp
Filipino food is great, and my Filipino friends/colleagues/family cook great Filipino food. Consequently, always wondered why good Filipino restaurants are so rare (I don't know of any in OC, California). To get good Filipino restaurant food, need to trek to LA. But, thanks to Neighborhood, there is awesome Filipino food in Rome (yes, Rome, Italy)! In this 5-night stay in Rome, we dined twice at Neighborhood! Their service is great, and they use fresh, high quality ingredients to produce delicious and healthy food. I recommend it highly.

Brooke V.

Yelp
Food was absolutely amazing. Who would have thought in the middle of Rome some delicious Filipino food! Came back twice already, may have to come back one more tome before we leave. First time got Shanghai lumpia, pancit bihon and fried chicken. Food came out piping hot. Could tell they make everything to order. Second night brought the whole crew and ordered a ton of food, all of it was to die for!

Yelp
Been craving Filipino food after weeks of eating pasta and pizza and this hit the spot. Good legit food here.

Yelp
We traveled to Rome for 6 days and after one day of eating pricey Italian food, we decided to try this place for dinner as recommended by a fellow Filipino we met in Vatican. Since I am capampangan from California, I didn't really have high expectations but this place definitely exceeded it. The pork sisig we ordered felt like I was back in my hometown. Pretty much everything that we ordered was really good (sinigang, liempo, tokwat baboy) even the desserts. We came back the next day and the day after. Good food and good value!

Yelp
If you're in Rome & have a taste for real home cook Filipino foods, this is the place to be. Good food, friendly staff & the place is clean. Price is right too. Bring your family & friends. Buon Appetitto!

Authentic filipino food, my kids requested rice so we decided to try this place. No doubt it is so good. We will come back again tomorrow.

Yelp
Neighborhood w is a family owned restaurant that serves excellent portion of Filipino food in Rome. The restaurant owner was very nice and offered to call a cab for us after our late lunch. The service is excellent, restroom was clean and the place is not very pricey.

Yelp
The food was decent. Unfortunately, the customer service was not very good, specifically the woman who served us that day. The place was recommended to us by Filipino souvenir vendors who were very nice and kind. They told us the price for the buffet was 10 euro. Turns out it was 13 euro and when we told the Filipino restaurant worker, she was upset and asked us to give the name of the shop that gave us the quote. Nonetheless, we sat down for the meal as we were so tired and weary from the heat. When we asked for tap water, she said no restaurant in Rome offers free tap water. This was not true as we already ate in other restaurants (one of them was a Filipino restaurant, Sarap) which served us tap water upon request. Again, we set this aside and proceeded to order drinks and then eat. One of our family members got small quantity of rice and a bowl of sinigang soup. She tasted it and did not like it and did not eat further. When we requested if we can get a credit for her share, the woman serving us got so upset. Considering there were 8 of us, she could have accommodated our request or at the very least, she could have easily just said "sorry but we do not do do a credit". When I muttered that I may have to do a bad review, she proceeded to follow me to my table and got in my face. Not really the appropriate action. All she needed to do was acknowledge the complaint and say I am sorry you feel that way. But she said why should she say sorry at all. And to engage a customer when the customer is already walking away is very threatening. She should not be working in customer service at all. It was our worse restaurant experience in Rome.

Yelp
As a couple living in Germany, it's been a LONG time since we've had really good Filipino food. With our family visiting us and having just learned of the huge Filipino community in Rome, we had to try this place. A small little restaurant situated outside of the center closer to Vatican City, the food here was EXCELLENT! We definitely ordered more food than we could have ever hoped to finish, but we packed it all up and ate it again later that day. Saved us some money, and the food was still delicious. Definitely order the Crispy pata kare kare, and the sisig. For any Person who can love and appreciate the feeling of home through some of the best underrated food in the world, come and try Neighborhood. You will not be disappointed!

J K.

Yelp
Sisig and Bicol Express were both fantastic. Pinakbet was excellent except a few of the vegetables were undercooked. The restaurant was very clean and pleasant to be in considering it is a basement.

Yelp

Yelp
Food was delicious. Staff was friendly. If your missing Filipino food in Rome, I would highly recommend this place!!

Irene N.

Yelp
We were visiting Rome and had a craving for Filipino food and this was AWESOME!!! We are from SF Bay Area - where there are tons of good Pinoy places - and this place trumps them all!! Have to try their homemade use ice cream

Matt E.

Yelp
Love this place in Rome! It's a very relaxing place to eat with friends and families. We had a simple lunch here and the prices were just right. Unlike American Filipino Restaurants that lack the soul in their food. Here it's different. If you're a filipino or any nationality or simply a local, come here. 5/5.

Neil F.

Yelp
Taste authentic. People here are really nice. Great place to go to when cravings for Filipino food.

Alisha B.

Yelp
For Filipinos looking for rice with ulam this place does the job, and then some. The food is great and so is the service - don't be afraid to make chika with the owners and servers. Make sure you try the halo halo - their style is specific to Pampanga - is just the right amount of sweet.
