The Best New Restaurants in Montreal, January 2023 | Eater Montreal

"Add Neo Tokyo to your list of must-try Montreal ramen destinations. After much anticipation (and repeated delays), the retro-futuristic, quasi-dystopian noodle joint from restaurateur Yann Levy is officially open with a menu developed with Shigetoshi Nakamura, the NYC chef behind Nakamura and Niche. A bowl of tonkotsu broth with chashu (braised pork belly), truffle miso ramen prepared with tea and kombu, and mazemen topped with ground pork soboro are among the dishes on offer." - Valerie Silva

Old Montreal’s Cyberpunk Ramen Bar Neo Tokyo Is a Blade Runner Remake | Eater Montreal

"Set on the ground floor of 425 Viger West in Old Montreal, I found Neo Tokyo to be a cyberpunk-inspired noodle bar that opened on December 14 to serve locals and the building’s 1,000 employees after pandemic- and construction-related delays. The 2,500-square-foot, 77-seat interior—designed by co-owner Yann Levy—directly recreates Blade Runner/Akira/Cyberpunk 2077 street aesthetics with bright neon signage, graffiti, hanging lanterns, corrugated metal paneling and painted floor artwork reminiscent of a pedestrian crossing (Levy purposely omitted the film’s rain). The menu, developed with New York ramen master Shigetoshi “Jack” Nakamura, focuses on ramen—including chicken-and-pork tonkotsu with chashu pork, a chicken-and-yuzu shio served with chicken chashu or shrimp wontons, and a vegetarian truffle miso ramen made with tea, kombu, miso and vegetables—alongside mazemen varieties (salmon, top loin steak, cream-parmesan-bacon à la carbonara, and ground soboro-style pork) and sides like pork gyoza with yuzu kosho shoyu, edamame and spicy karaage. The tightly edited drinks list is meant to complement the food, featuring a gin-based Replicant cocktail, an amber-and-emerald Matcha Biru (matcha mixed with beer) and a small sake selection including bottles from Granville Island’s Artisan SakeMaker. Levy says he wants Neo Tokyo to encourage lingering rather than just grab-and-go, with plans to add takeout/delivery, possibly use remaining space for a ghost-kitchen–cum-snack bar similar to his speakeasy Gokudo, and even bring in an omakase chef if demand arises." - JP Karwacki

Montreal’s Most Anticipated New Restaurant Openings, Fall 2022 | Eater Montreal

"Montreal restaurateur Yann Levy is targeting an October opening for a Japanese noodle bar whose straightforward menu — developed with New York chef Shigetoshi Nakamura — will feature ramen, mazemen, imported sake and wine, while the interior draws on the cyberpunk, high-tech aesthetic of Blade Runner (1982)." - Valerie Silva

A New Japanese Noodle Bar Inspired by Blade Runner is Headed for Downtown Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Tucked on the ground floor of 425 Viger West beneath what is slated to become a new 1,000-person Google office, I'm told the planned 'cyberpunk' Japanese noodle bar Neotokyo is set to open in January 2022. Yann Levy, joined by co-owner Ilan Benhaim, has been working on the concept since 2018 but delayed the buildout due to the pandemic. The compact menu will center on classic ramen and mazemen (the no-broth alternative), the latter devised in collaboration with celebrated New York City chef Shigetoshi Nakamura (of Nakamura and Niche), with a few other sides, cocktails, imported sakes, and wines. Design-wise I expect a retro-futuristic, Blade Runner–inspired space — dark and moody, “a bit post-apocalyptic,” peppered with back-lit signage, glowing neon lettering, and plenty of raw concrete surfaces. By the end of next year there will also be a basement sushi bar that shares the same visual markers, and Levy says the goal is to serve a big lunch crowd while avoiding some of the Orientalist tropes seen in other recent cyberpunk rehashings." - Valerie Silva

The atmosphere of the place is one of the best I’ve been to in Montréal. It gets however busy really fast. We went for the opening and a line was already being created. They don’t take reservations for dinner, so if you wish to not wait I would recommend coming as soon as they open. For the food itself I found it subpar. I have heard about this restaurant with only very positive reviews so my expectations were high. We took the Neotokyo Mazesoba and the special tres spicy mazeman. I found both simply ok in terms of taste. If I had to pick one I would probably go with the spicy option as I found the Neotokyo Mazesoba to be blend. The portion to price ratio is on the upper end I would say, meaning it’s still respectable but you other restaurants would probably give out more in terms of quantity. The one positive is that the service was great and very fast. I wasn’t convinced and probably wouldn’t come back. Maybe try different things on the menu.

I tried both the broth ramen and the dry ramen (both were delicious), with very generous portions and outstanding flavor. The appetizers were also very good, and they came with a mustard/mayo-style sauce that was incredibly tasty. The service was attentive and quick, which made the experience even better. 100% recommended. The only detail is that it is not very suitable for large groups, so it’s best to go as a couple or in a small group.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Neotokyo! The decor is amazing and there are so many little details we kept noticing throughout the night. Our bartender was so attentive and checked in on us so much -she was so sweet!! We got the gyoza as an appetizer which was great, and tonkatsu ramen was perfect and so were our drinks! Next time we are in Montreal we will be back:)

Google
It’s easy to get ramen wrong, but I was very impressed with this spot. The ramen was rich and flavourful. It had a good vibe, quick service, not fancy or pretentious but just darn good soup. I’ll go again.

Went there on Tuesday during lunch time and it was delicious!! You definitely need to book if you are planning on heading there during the week and lunch time. The Ramen were full of flavors and great service!

Google
Service was great and the decor was fun. The ramen had perfectly cooked noodles and a flavorful broth, though the pork chashu was a little too fatty. The ice cream was excellent!

Google
Atmosphere wise, this place is really cool and scores a 100 for vibe, feels like AKIRA. Definitely check it out at least once. Decent ramen, they give you a good amount of noodles BUT the truffle ramen I ordered had no meat at all just a couple of mushrooms and cabbage...? Quite a disappointment for a $20 bowl, not recommended. The Takoyaki was good, recommended. The Yakisoba (their Monday special) was surprisingly good, we really liked it, you could taste the lightly charred flavor, wife and I loved it. Overall the ramen just was OK at least for the ones I ordered, otherwise this could've been a 5 stars.

Google
Visited 1 time. Welcoming staff, clean place and super cosy atmosphere. As for food, the Takoyaki balls were super delicious. The ramen we took, hmm.. they were good too but I expected them to be better. I had the Tonkotsu and added extra black garlic oil too but I personally found that it still lacked depths and flavours. (Same impressions from the people accompanying me) I would recommend if for the welcoming and super nice decor though 👌

Yelp
Great little find, easy to get a table for dinner on a Tuesday night. The Tonkatsu was lightly flavored. My date liked it a lot. The Mazesoba had more of a bite. It's cool the way you stir in the egg yolk (like Carbonara). Good flavors all around. The portions are ample, so we both had a little left. I mixed them together in one take out box and loved how it tasted. Our server was lovely as was the couple next to us. Both offered ideas of where we should try next. Very good vibes in this place.

Yelp
Great restaurant with a great atmosphere. That's the easiest way to describe it. I feel like the environment makes you feel better. The food was really delicious even if on the saltier side (especially with the curry). I think all the service staff was also great from the greeting, to taking our order to serving the dishes. Definitely a place to visit again!

Yelp
I noticed Yelp isn't as current up in Montreal, but this was a location that it delivered on! I was up for work and after a long day/not feeling so hot, ramen is what the body needed. It's located in Old Town but it doesn't give the Old Town tourist feel. This place is its own force coupled with some really delicious and homey ramen. I got the Tokyo shoyu and it was everything I've been missing. Nashville is trying on the ramen front but then you have some legit broth and noodles and you remember what you've been missing. The ambiance lifts this place up another level too. I have zero bad things to say about it besides just go. Get some ramen, get some snacks, enjoy the ambiance, and sip your sake.

Yelp

Yelp
Neo Tokyo is a futuristic noodle bar located in old Montreal (in the same building as Google). As soon as you enter the room, you'll be amazed by the design, you can tell that they really put a lot of thoughts into it, I loved it! The menu is eclectic and the price range is similar to the one you'll find at similar restaurants. I ordered Gyoza x 5 ($9) with the Neotokyo Taiwanese Mazeboba ($19), it was delicious!! The staff was very friendly, if you have to visit soon keep in mind that they just opened so they're still adjusting. Overall it was a good experience, I'll be back!

Yelp
Go dream of electric sheep in this cyberpunk decor inspired noodle bar. An obviously very popular (with good reason) destination. Come for the dystopian sci-fi vibe, stay for the incredible ramen with perfectly cooked meat, creamy broth and just overall exquisite, perfectly balanced ingredients that create a beautiful dance of flavours on the tongue. One of the few times, in our experience, that the food quality matches the effort put into the design. The drinks were also quite lovely, original and on themed which we loved. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at @neotokyo_mtl and we can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I found this restaurant good but nothing special. I had the spicy ramen and it was very simple. Only the noodles and a bit of porc. I wish they included more vegetables. It is expensive for what it is.
