Tucked into Jackson Heights, this cozy Nepalese spot specializes in addictive Himalayan dumplings served with vibrant sauces, perfect for solo diners or families.
"The Jackson Heights spot seats exactly 10 people upstairs and a few more downstairs, with a tiny kitchen in the back. It’s charmingly small, and the clientele is equal parts families and solo diners, who come here to indulge in a steamy jhol momo facial while watching anime (or just having a quiet moment). Apply three sauces to your golden blistered fried momos in turn, while eavesdropping on two old friends, exchanging numbers as they eat sel roti." - willa moore, sonal shah, bryan kim
"With a tiny kitchen off to the back, this Jackson Heights spot is about the size of a walk-in closet, and seats exactly 10 people, plus a few more downstairs in the basement. It's a good spot for a quick, walk-in meal, and the crowd is equal parts families and solo diners watching anime while taking down steamy bowls of jhol momos. If you're in a real rush, take your dumplings to go, but we prefer grabbing a table for a little people-watching on the side. It's the sort of place where you might witness two old friends reconnecting after a while—exchanging numbers while they both eat their order of sel roti. Food Rundown photo credit: Willa Moore Momos A server will bring a plate of momos to your table, still steaming, with three sauces: sichuan, chilli, and cilantro. Applying them liberally to each bite. We like the dumplings fried because the thick skin gets golden and bubbly, but if you’re here with more than one person, try the steamed ones too." - Willa Moore
"After pondering this guide for a few minutes, you may have noticed by now that Jackson Heights is home to food truck royalty. Another example of the neighborhood’s crown-power is this Tibetan truck on Broadway. Mom’s Momo makes both fried and steamed momos, each with a plump, thick exterior and vegetable, beef, or chicken filling. Our favorite is the fried, beef variety doused in a combo of spicy, red chili sauce and white sauce to cool you off. You need both for full effect. Mom’s also has a location off of Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside, in case that’s more convenient to you." - hannah albertine
