Austin Bagel Shop Nervous Charlie’s Opens in Cedar Park | Eater Austin

"Opening a Cedar Park location at 410 West Whitestone Boulevard on Wednesday, October 11, this bagel shop brings the same New York–style menu—made with dough sourced from the East Coast city—featuring flavors like everything, cinnamon raisin, sun-dried tomato and French toast. Cream cheeses range from plain and vegan vegetable to strawberry and a spicy arbol/pequin pepper, and breakfast and lunch sandwiches use those bagels with fillings such as eggs, lox, pastrami, Taylor ham and turkey. The larger suburban space allows them to sell retail bottles of their house hot sauce, add more specialty sandwiches and broaden baked goods (including more black-and-white cookies plus new crumb cakes and chocolate chip cookies from lead baker AJ Lurgio), while longtime staffer Wendy Gammon will serve as general manager of the Cedar Park spot. Co-founders Chris Cunningham and Ali White, who moved from New York and opened the original shop in September 2018, emphasize their aim to bring authentic bagels to Austin and are proud to be a local, homegrown business; the new location is open 6 a.m.–2 p.m. Monday–Friday and 7 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday–Sunday and is currently accepting in-person orders only." - Nadia Chaudhury

This was my first time visiting this place - I ordered two bagels with cream cheese - one garlic, one everything, I really enjoyed both, but would probably stick with the everything bagel because I liked the blend, it was garlic forward, but also a little salty, which I liked. I also think their merch is really cute and got a shirt.

So. Freakin. Good. My husband and I just moved to the area from NYC where we had a Saturday morning tradition of getting bagel sandwiches. We thought there was no way we would find decent bagels in TX…man were we wrong! One bite in and we both said this was better than any bagel we had tried in NYC. We have found our new Saturday AM bagel spot. Thank you Nervous Charlie’s!!!

I was drawn here because Nervous Charlie's has been voted best bagels in Austin several years running and this locations opened October 2023. Unfortunately the service and product didn't live up to expectations. Tips: cash in not accepted here and ordering is either done via touchscreen kiosk in-person or online via Toast. Online orders can be picked up through a glass window, around the corner from the main entrance. There is a decent amount of parking around the shopping area. Experience: When you order, the screens tell you what is or is not available, yet in my case, two of the bagels that I ordered were not available and I was made aware of that 10 minutes after I placed my order in-person. My total wait time, for two sandwiches and two "half dozen" bagels, was 21 minutes at an off-peak time with 6-7 staff visible in back. Shortly after I left, I realized that the order was missing two cream cheeses ($7 each) and the staff combined the two "half dozen" bagel orders ($12 each) into one massive paper bag. Both of the foil wrapped sandwiches were cold and the sticker labels distinguishing the Classic ($8) from the Longhorn ($11), were reversed. For $62 in total cost and 21 minutes of waiting, I'd expect a lot more. While the sandwiches were cold and bagels seemingly a day old, it tasted like quality ingredients are used, so I can understand why folks like this place but under better circumstances. I don't think that I'll be back to try it again though.

The bagels here are good – fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. That said, the in-store ordering experience leaves a lot to be desired. The self-serve kiosks are not very intuitive, and the menu feels limited compared to what’s available online. There's also no option to add comments or special instructions, which can be frustrating if you want to customize your order. If you're planning to visit, I recommend ordering ahead online – it’s a smoother, more flexible experience overall.

Although I did not ask for recommendations I did go with a cinnamon raisin bagel. Usually when doing reviews I like doing different items but went with just one today which is basically the main importance of the business. (The bagel ) I thought and said if the bagel by itself is not good then I should not try the rest of the menu. From start the young lady was very helpful and was giving her honest opinion to me. The plain bagel was actually good I’d love to try different selections next time. Clean tables when I walked in despite it being closing time did not see the urgency of getting a customer which made my experience better! Price was standard no complaints overall great experience!

So pumped to FINALLY get a good bagel spot in Cedar Park! I’ve heard a lot of great things about Nervous Charlie’s, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The place has a very cool vibe, especially the tons of photos they have of doggos on the wall! Service was friendly, food came out quick, and an overall great first impression. I lived in New York for 12 years, and can confidently say this is probably the best bagel/bacon, egg, and cheese I’ve ever had in Texas. Bagel was toasted perfectly, bacon was nice and crisp, and the fried eggs with cheese made for a delectable breakfast sandwich. I also tried the French toast bagel with cream cheese, and HOLY COW, it was melt in your mouth good. Nice healthy dollop of cream cheese on the bagel-no skimping here! When I went this morning, the line was out the door so expect to have a little wait before you can order. I can’t wait to be a regular here, and will absolutely be back soon to try their lunch. RUN, don’t walk, to Nervous Charlie’s!

I was immediately annoyed they are cashless. I want to write a fair review so keep that in mind. I found it a bit expensive for what you get. They definitely use good ingredients and the bagel sandwich is almost worth the price (it was a bit small for an $11 sandwich) The coffee not so much. It was also a bit of a wait. I probably won't be back because there were more negatives than positives.

Great place for bagels finally. Service is great and so is food. Tried sundried bagel with Pequin pepper spread and it’s super tasty. Also got garlic bagel which tasted Ok ( too much garlic topping) Staff is friendly but wait times are high (20 mins for bagel)even though I haven’t seen many people ahead of us is kinda surprising as I have seen bagels all ready to get dressed. The amount of spread they had in it is right on as many places try to go cheap on spread and these guys did not. Good job guys would come back when back in town.
