Where To Eat Outside In Hackney

"If you really want to eat outside, then grabbing something to takeaway and scoff, back arched on the the nearest bench, estate wall, or patch of London Fields, is the real move. With that in mind, it’s worth heading to Netil Market, as it’s home to a few of Hackney’s most sought after bites. You’ve got Sonora Taqueria making juicy barbacoa and cheese crusted tacos, not to mention their pork chicharrones burrito. There’s Pockets - home to surely the best falafel (and all vegan) pitta in London, and then there’s the OG Bao hatch as well." - jake missing

The Best Pop-Ups In London Right Now - London - The Infatuation

"Delli @ Netil Market / Weds-Sun / Until January  Delli, a grocery app which champions independent producers, is hosting some exciting pop-ups in their small Netil Market shop during the winter months. There’s Filipino food courtesy of TonTons, Tunisian fricassé and other street food from Lamiri Harissa, and a collab from JinJin and Onggi where you can get your hands on vegan kimchi. " - Rianne Shlebak, Sinead Cranna

On leaving Mare Street Market, I was directed to Netil Market around the corner. A street food market. A collection of semi-permament food stalls, including one serving specialty coffee. Hidden, off the beaten track. I did not eat, as I had already eaten.

Walking around I encountered myself with this small, cozy but with charm street food market. Mini stalls with a variety selection of food: pizza slices, bagels, coffee, noodles, pasta, rice bowls, wine and even art crafts. I went for a bagels and a lemonade from the Bagel Guys by Paulie but have a pint of LowRise lager first on Sen Noodles so in all it was a success. Definitely will try the beer road by it in my next visit.

Super cool, hip, outdoor street food market in Hackney with multiple food options such as falafel bap (huge queue!!!), fresh pasta, burgers & fries, pies, etc. There is ample seating available and it's free to visit. There is great alternative music played in the background for a great atmosphere.

Google
Cute little market with a few food stalls and craft stores by local artists. I think it’s worth to check it out if you’re heading to broadway market, otherwise it’s not exactly worth the trip down just for it because it’s really small. There are nice things there but it’s not exactly the most unique, interesting, in my subjective experience, and it’s quite a (slightly ridiculous) premium price on these goods when compared to locally handmade goods and crafts in other markets.

Super cozy with a nice mix of stuff to see, try, eat, smell and buy 😍 Very happy friendly people, both visitors and vendors which have a great atmosphere 👌 little hidden gem! Also, if you love Club Mate -which is almost impossible to find outside Germany- the Italian place has them!!

Small but pretty interesting street food market. None of the food will blow your mind and some of its a bit overpriced but if you're in the area, its worth a visit.

Cool little market with some excellent food options. Great New York style pizza slices (£3.50). Also had a bagel (£3.50) and a soft serve ice cream. All of it was delicious. Plenty of the stalls do drinks - we got lager and good Bloody Marys from the fish one. Broadway Market is just round the corner if you're still hungry!

Good luck to all of the teams in this week’s tournament at this year in New Jersey City for a fantastic game against a great group that is so excited and proud to have won

Yelp
Maybe I caught this "market" on a bad day? Maybe the cold kept all its awesomeness at bay? I came chiefly to try Lucky Chip but found it shut. I spent a few more minutes wandering around Netil but to be honest it felt like a jumble sale of people's castaways in a parking lot. Maybe you'd call that vintage but to me it just seemed like junk. I may try again on another visit to Broadway Market but as of now, Netil's shown me very little to be excited about.

Yelp
After going through Broadway Market (although I also enjoy it), I rather enjoyed the neat quaintness of Netil Market. It's a lot smaller and feels less like a market and more like a collection of permanent shops/bars/restaurants. There's a good variety of food in a very small space - Morty and Bobs does some excellent cheese toasties, there is now a new Bao stand which is very popular and I've raved about the barbecue in a separate review. There's also some other stuff for sale (non food stuff) as well, which is interesting enough to browse while making up your mind about what to eat. There's also a bicycle repair place - in fact the whole place feels like the idea behind Pop Brixton but about 1/10th the size. The other thing I like quite a bit about Netil is the furniture sale always going on outside. I would love to fit out an fancy docklands apartment with stuff in there, but I don't have either the apartment nor the means of getting a large cast iron cross (presumably from a former church) there. Which is a shame because I loved that cross, but it'd look daft in my house and I didn't fancy carrying it back across town on the tube.

Yelp
After the hustle and bustle of Broadway Market, Netil Market feels like a small commune that you are allowed to visit. Edgy little shops and a super chilled roof terrace with Netil Radio playing where you can relax and gawk at East Londoners

Yelp
Netil Market is somewhat hidden, but it is such a treasure cove once you find it! The market consists of a handful of vendors, most of which have set up shop in 10x10 shipping containers. It's not a huge market, but you can find one of everything there... Be it a brewery, bakery, pizzeria, bike shop, antique glasses boutique, coffee, and more. The vibe here is certainly a lot more hipster, industrial, and modern as opposed to other London markets. Most vendors are only open on Saturdays I believe.

Yelp
Their tag line is, 'Not Another Chuffin' Market...' and I couldn't have put it much better myself. Less of a market and more of a mish-mash collection of stalls selling charity shop furniture, vintage clothing and some rather tasty looking food, this market is not one to make a special trip for. It's riding on the glory of the ever successful Broadway Market and hoping to capture it's custom from there. It's not crap, it's just not really awesome. There is a huge demand for stalls on the market and a waiting list, so these little guys have taken advantage of that. Good on them. Great entrepreneurial thought. I'm impressed... If you come down to Broadway Market, don't forget to use your iPhone Yelp app to hunt out other gems in the area like this. Hidden not too far from the main strip, you'll find an extra 15 minutes of browsing time here. Well worth it.

Yelp
Others have stated this, so I'm just going to reiterate: Netil Market is *lovely* but it's small. So small that it's probably only worth a special trek out if it's done in conjunction with the much-loved much-touted much-5-starred Broadway Market just down the street. Is that too lukewarm an intro? Well...it's not meant to be. I think Netil Market is only improving with time based on the earlier reviews. Or maybe I just like the less frenetic pace of it due to its small size. It has some food stalls, and some jewellery and other stalls (place for a pint, place for a slice of cake). Special shout-out to the store selling an impressive array of vintage specs. Oh, and the slices of courgette loaf; they look delicious. That said, just to re-emphasize: this is not a place where you'll find, say, a perfectly grown bunch or carrots or a bushel of peaches. It's artisans and vintage and...some grilled cheese options. Not bad, but just know what you're going for (a peek around, and a munch and maybe a special enamel broach or something. NOT your weekend produce shop for the next week). Yelp note: Victoria Yum? I'm regretting not purchasing ALL OF THE CAKES.

Yelp
A diverse market with a good range of food, crafts and, as of fairly recently, a small brewery and homebrew supply shop. I'll be re-visiting for the beer.

Yelp
A small market, but with very good food finds for sure. The morty and bobs grilled cheese (£5)was really good and they offer Tabasco sauce too which goes really good with it! I also got this pumpkin cake slice from Victoria yum for £3 and that was amazing my favorite part was the frosting. I want to try the Jamaican food next time because the portions look huge and reasonable prices too! They have little vintage stalls and also stalls that sell beer or apple cider

Yelp
They've got a Bao bar. And it's got daikon bao. And they've got Bloody Marys. So it is small but it's got everything I need on a Saturday afternoon. After being fed though, I always have a look at the books - keep an eye out, they sometimes have a "free books" box that contains mainly magazines and exhibit catalogues but some great things can be found. The art books you have to pay for are also very interesting, mind you. It changes sometimes but there usually is a little stall of fancy dog food that looks way too lovely to be dog food, one with very well designed jewellery, and a vinyl seller. You can always find a vintage glasses shop (as in spectacles, not glasses you drink from), a vintage clothes shop, and a ceramics shop. They also have beer, cakes and all sorts of things that can improve a Saturday afternoon. If you're heading to Broadway Market - or coming back from it - it is worth making a little detour to enjoy Netil Market.

Yelp
I stopped here last Saturday for the monthly Yard Sale. As others have said, it is quite tiny but it wasn't overtly crowded so pleasant. The sunny weather certainly cheered the mildly bustling atmosphere. A decent mix of clothes vendors. Some of the food vendors were open: jerk chicken, pizza, BBQ and Eritrean. I opted for the pizza which I regret: like 99% of places in London it looks good and tastes mediocre. I ordered the veg option and had goat cheese added (no extra cost, which was nice). Many of the food vendors accept card but some are cash only. The clothing vendors accept cash only which is also dumb. The one truly awesome thing was the seating atop the pizza place. It was smack in the sun so we sunbathed for a few hours with no one else joining the seating area.

Yelp
Loved it... Nice counter balance to busy Broadway... The coffee was amazing!

Yelp
this is a lovely little market, situated just a short walk away from the larger (& more popular broadway market). it is small but perfectly formed with a variety of stalls, not just food, which is nice to see. in actual fact there is probably about 4-5 food vendors plus some a drink vendor or two, and the rest of the stalls (maybe 20 or so?) are made up of little independent businesses selling various wares. an excellent place to look for unique gifts. the quality of the food vendors is really high, so it makes it difficult to choose where to go! i opted for lucky chip on my visit because i had read so much about them and hadn't had the chance to check them out. i have had so many meat burgers in the last six months as london is having this ridiculous (good) burger revolution, so i forced myself to try the veggie burger for a chance of scene. i know you should get the meat burgers on a menu when that is what they are known for, but the veggie burger was seriously good and i really didn't regret my choice. now i look forward to trying their beef burger at a future date. my boyfriend and i also shared a portion of their fries - they were very tasty. lucky chip is one of the pricier burger offerings in london (veggie burger + fries = £10.50) but good quality, so it's a price i am willing to pay. my boyfriend opted for a pimped up cheese toastie from morty & bob's gourmet grilled cheese, who i understand are new vendors at netil market. it looked delicious and he was super pleased with it. i like that it came with two little pickles too. there are lots of seating areas scattered around, and even though it was busy when we visited, we managed to get a seat right away. the girl from lucky chip was even providing waitress service with her orders, which was a nice touch! there is also lots of outside heaters so even when it's a bit nippy out, you can hope to reclaim some worth. finally, netil market is dog friendly, hurrah! being outside you might expect this, but places like borough market do not welcome dogs, so it is a point to note. not only are they dog friendly, there is even a stall which is dedicated to our lovely pets - they are well worth checking out for their goodies.

Yelp
Broadway for those who know. Love this, super cosy little market with high quality foodstands. I went to BAO and had a street shake afterwards, totally recommended. However there are a few more stalls that look great, I remember one with American style burgers and one that seemed to have high quality pasta. Really cool market and just 2 - 3 minutes from Broadway market.

Yelp
The only reason I went to Netil Market was for the Dim Sum at Kamchi. Can't recommend trying it out enough. I'd tasted their fab dumplings and a Katsu Curry that rivals Wagamamas at a small food market near Brick Lane and have been coming back for more ever since. If you like fresh, orgainic, tasty asian food I'd make it your next stop!
