An Eater’s Guide to Prince Edward Island, Canada’s Seafood Destination - Eater

"The island is also well-known for lobster suppers, a tradition started in 1957 as a fundraising effort by the New Glasgow and District Junior Farmers Organization; the organization eventually morphed the tradition into a restaurant, simply known as New Glasgow Lobster Suppers, one of the longest-operating family restaurants in PEI." - Amanda Gabriele

Briefly, I would say I like it and I will go there again, but there were some concerns: A. Front desk station was separate than dining hall. They expect me to stay in the front, to understand how their menu works, and then let me in. It was not welcoming and professional. B. Apparently servers were students on summer work, which was nice and like it. But in my case, after I ordered hot lobster, I received cold. Plus, delay. Not that professional! C. Starting rate per person, is almost 50$, but worth it. It includes appetizers, salads, main course, and dessert. Although some are better than others. D. In total, nice environment to spend some time with friends and families.

Google
This was a really fun experience being our first lobster supper. I really liked that you can order larger lobsters here. The 3lb lobster was very juice and meaty and perfectly cooked. I can't say the same for the steak nor the scallops. The steak was a bit tough, and not very flavorful. The 7 scallops were very small and very overcooked. The mussels were a bit plain, as well as the chowder, but nothing a bit of salt couldn't save. Loved the variety of salads and the desserts! If you are stopping by for lobster, this is a great choice. Service was excellent!

Google
Great food & service. The 3lbs lobster and mussel buckets are full of the taste of sea, fresh and divine. So as the scallops! The buns are the best partner with the tomato soup or seafood chowder. Don’t forget the dessert, esp the lemon meringue and coconut pie.

Google
If you want a great Lobster meal this is a destination you can't miss. The rolls, the Mussels, the chowder, the salad and yes, a delicious lobster, followed by a good dessert. Lisa our server was outstanding. The place was packed at 5pm we were lucky to find a table arriving at 4:30. The pasta veggie option wasn't any good.

Google
Love love love! Price is reasonable. Appetizer, seafood chowder, mussels, soft drinks coffee and deserts can have unlimited. At least you enter the restaurant before 8pm, you will have a table to enjoy the meal.

If you’re anywhere in this area, pass by. It’s delicious (incredibly fresh) food, served up by wonderfully nice folks. It gets packed, but you’ll not have to wait any longer than 30-45 minutes, and, it’s worth the wait. Don’t miss this place. Highly recommended.

Google
Hands down absolute BEST dining experience of our 20 day East Coast Road trip and possibly one of the best dining experiences in my entire life. The staff were so friendly and professional. The food was UNREAL! I’ve never eaten so much in my entire life. Here’s was I had -1 Bread roll -2 bowls of chowder -2 buckets of mussels (my wife and I shared these so I can’t take all the credit.) -A plate of salads (mixed greens, potato and colslaw.) -A 1.5 pound Atlantic Lobster -We shared coconut cream pie, Lemon meringue pie, strawberry shortcake. -I then ordered a 2nd piece of coconut cream pie. Up there with the best I’ve ever had. -2 beers I don’t even have words to describe this absolutely mind blowing experience. It’s something I truly will never forget. Thank you so much New Glasgow Lobster Suppers!

Google
Our server was very cheerful and made our experience enjoyable. The lobster, mussels, and desserts were very good. I didn't much like the rapid pace of the whole experience, but I do understand the reasoning with tourists coming and going on busses and needing to get back to ships, etc.

Yelp
What an amazing dinner! Great service, delicious food and a great atmosphere! We loved the multi courses ... chowder, salads, entree and dessert and the generous offers of seconds. Our table tried the lobster and the salmon and all food was thoroughly enjoyed. The server was friendly and we were not rushed at all.

Yelp
Fun experience. Food is simple and well executed. Ambiance is simple with a communal dining feel. Service is a bit slow but very friendly. Decent beer choices. Kid friendly. A joint worth checking out.

Yelp
This place is a 10/10 highly recommend for the experience Everything from mussels to soup to salads to lobster and dessert

Yelp
A no regrets, once in a lifetime experience, but the food was unfortunately mediocre at best. The concept here is interesting. Underpinned by some of the friendliest service in town, you have the opportunity to try a couple soups, few salads, homemade bread rolls, and mussels - with all of the above included when you purchase a main. I tried the lobster and scallops, which like many of the dishes I tried, was served plain (without seasoning). Additionally, the scallops were overcooked and rubbery. Frankly, the delicious bread was my favourite item.

Yelp
It was our first time trying PEI lobster and it certainly didn't disappoint. The lobster was incredibly sweet and delicious - especially the claws and body; the tail was a tad over cooked / rubbery. As for the appetizers, the seafood chowder and mussels were the highlight (especially when paired together). The tomato soup, dinner rolls, and salads were very mediocre. Their dessert selection is quite vast, but I only had room to try two: the blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream and the strawberry shortcake. Both were pretty good, though I wish they served their desserts warmed up! That'd be a total game changer! I'm usually skeptical of the quality of restaurants that offer "AYCE" options, but we very much enjoyed our experience / food. Though the meal was a bit pricey, I still felt it was worthwhile!

Yelp
We were visiting from Philadelphia. Great experience, fantastic lobster and pie! Service was very friendly.

Yelp
A lobster supper is a must have experience when visiting PEI, and this is the place to do it! We ordered the lobster and had a great time picking it apart as it was my husband's first time eating a whole lobster. The chowder was a bit bland for my liking but the mussels were delicious and we helped ourselves to a second bucket of that. For dessert, we had the famous lemon meringe along with strawberry shortcake. Both delish and not too rich to end off the meal with.

Yelp
This is truly a gem! Loved the food, the view, the staff! The meal was very good, the pail of mussels OMG. I wish I lived closer. This is a must go to place.

Yelp
Actually called New Glasgow Lobster Suppers. We had a debate about how many stars to give and in the end went with 4 as we would recommend this restaurant to others. Very fresh, simple food and amazing service. If you're craving a classic Maritime lobster supper you can't go wrong here. It's exactly as it was when we last came 5 years ago - lobster, soup, a plate of 3 salads, fresh warm dinner rolls and pie for about $60/ person. It's no longer all you can eat mussels and sides, but you can get seconds of everything except of course the lobster. Customers pay for their menu choice before being seated. If you have selected a lobster supper (based on weight of lobster), you'll probably be seated downstairs in a spacious room that is air conditioned. Supper is served as four courses - starting with fresh warm supper rolls, butter and soup. We'd recommend the tomato basil as it's a nice counterpoint to all the rich buttery-ness of everything else you'll eat. The chowder is too thick, bland and potato heavy honestly. Then it's mussels, simple flavor but super fresh and perfectly cooked. Salad followed was fresh but again simple - scoop each of potato, coleslaw, and garden dressed with balsamic. The lobster was amazing and again perfectly cooked. We appreciated that the lobster was partially cracked already too! Dessert options were plenty although a bit disappointing. Still, overall this is a fun and reliable way to have a proper lobster supper. All the locals in the line up to get in at opening time seemed to agree!

Yelp
We have gone to this restaurant every year since 1999. This year May be the last year. There is a distinct shift in the quality of food and service which is massively disappointing. As a born on PEI and Islander living away, returning to the Island every year is a big deal...and dining traditions and new tries are typically uplifting while spending time with friends and family for these meals. This year, the New Glasgow Lobster dinner was, unfortunately, beyond disappointing. Famous NG rolls were chewy gooey instead of airy and light. The seafood chowder was pasty. The salads were a sloppy, not crunchy, threesome on a bread and butter plate. The mussels were super salty. The 2 lb lobster was definitely not lbs, was waterlogged and had no saltiness or flavour - neither were the others. Who ever heard of flavourless lobster at New Glasgow? The haddock dinner included a soggy batter, and not even one half of a potatoe appeared in the scalloped potato sauce, for Well over $40. The lemon and meringue of the dessert were winners, but the pastry was hard, thin and dark brown. Service was 'thin'. Looked up the NGLD owners and Mgrs as we figured there had been changes...and certainly since the " you gotta eat here" televised show and foods served. A message for you.....Please please please, don't ruin the reputation and pleasures associated with this long standing dining experience. 'Big prices, big service and big pleasures'. PS. Servers, please ask diners if they even want melted butter - the company will save a fortune from holding back on the servings of those who don' t want to use it.

Yelp
The line moved moderately fast, mostly because they funnel you into the bar after paying for the meal you have not yet had. The wait staff was friendly, but I am certain we were forgotten about because while we were far from the last to be seated, we were the last party in the basement. When we came up to leave, the whole upstairs was empty. That sort of explains why they said the coffee was already dumped out when we ordered dessert. Excellent rolls started off the meal. Then the Bucket of Mussels and soup was descent, but the salads should have been a hard pass. They were out of some dessert options. The Lemon Meringue Pie had fallen over but tasted ok. It was very touristy but in a town without a lot of options it felt like something we had to try. Maybe if we were on one of the several buses of seniors citizens who arrived after us, then we would have been served sooner and offered coffee with the pie. But we paid full price, no group discount but we only got part of what we came for.

Yelp
If you are in PEI you must stop by for this experience. It was just great. 4 course meal with seconds on everything but your main course. Food was great. Even our 11 year old scarfed up the mussel bucket. Desserts were fantastic. A lot of non dairy items too on dessert and soup. Two thumbs up and a visit must!! Our waitress was so nice and great service too!!

Yelp
Its a must have experience to have a lobster supper while in PEI. We chose the New Glasgow due to a friend's recommendation and had a lot of fun. You may come to find a long line out front, but no worries they are a well oiled machine and they can move a crowd quickly!! You buy your ticket our front, and go to the bar to wait as they figure our seating. Once seated, be prepared to eat!! As advertised, everything except for your main dish is all you can eat. I enjoyed the seafood chowder and mussels the most, and skipped the salad round. My 1lb lobster was meaty and well seasoned with just the right about of salt. My partner's surf and turf was just as good, and the steak was so tender and lovely. They did run out of key lime and coconut pie by the time we got to dessert (we were one of the last seatings), so we made do with the apple!! It was a lovely fun night. The atmosphere is energetic and happy, with many families and large tables enjoying their meals. A great PEI experience.

Yelp
An amazing concept, would definitely recommend trying it at least once during a trip to the Maritimes, however I was expecting more in terms of the food. How it works : You have to pick an entree at the restaurant, and while you are waiting for it to be cooked, you work your way through bread rolls, soup, salad, and mussels. Once finished with the entree, you can choose (unlimited) dessert from a selection of ~7 pies. You also get unlimited soda/tea/coffee, and have to pay extra for non-alcoholic beverages. The highlights were definitely the bread rolls (honestly the best bread I've had at a restaurant, especially when they're right out of the oven). I really enjoyed the salad as well, there was a scoop of three different types (house, potato salad and Cole slaw). There were also two soups to choose from (chowder and tomato basil), however both the soups were severely lacking salt and flavour. For entrees, we picked a 1lb lobster, and a plate of the scallops. The scallops were not worth the price as they were quite small and overcooked/chewy. Lobster was decent. Dessert was quite fun, especially trying all the different pies available. My favourite was definitely the blueberry one, tasted like fresh wild blueberries! Overall, be prepared to pay at least $55-60 per person, and leave feeling stuffed from all the eating

Yelp
Cold damp basement, tasteless chowder & deserts. Haddock entre was burnt. Only good part was the mussels and rolls!!!so disappointing . Don't waste your money!!

Yelp
We have rental properties on the island, so we do try to go at least once a year to Charlottetown to make sure that things are good. While there - I would have to say that New Glasgow Lobster Suppers is usually one of the must-stops. The restaurant opened its doors in 1958 and has since become a popular tourist destination in New Glasgow, PEI. Upon arrival, you are asked to decide your entree & purchase your meal order before being seated. Gratuities are not included in the price of your meal, so if you're pleased with the meal and service, tip your server (in cash) before leaving. All meals are served to you at your table and include unlimited homemade rolls, appetizers, freshly steamed Cultivated Island Blue Mussels, non-alcoholic beverages, and desserts. Appetizers available are salad sampler plate, coleslaw, PEI potato salad, garden salad, seafood chowder, and tomato basil soup. Included in the meal is a bucket of Steamed Island Blue Mussels, which is completely refillable. Most restaurants charge $12+ for a single bucket of mussels, so this was a great deal to me. We finished 2 buckets. We both opted for the lobster entree, I got 1 pound ($36.95) and J got 1.5 pounds ($43.95). The lobster wasn't anything special, as it was just steamed with a side of melted butter. However, I do like this classic way of serving lobster. I appreciated the lobster being pre-cracked, so it made eating it much easier. Given the high prices of eating out in Charlottetown, I'd say that the price paid here (per person) was pretty good in value. Some people would probably group this place as a "tourist trap", which I can understand why as it's now on most lists of top things to do in PEI. However, it's a good deal for what you get.

Yelp
You may find the dining process here a little confusing your first time. When you come in you decide what you want for your main course and pay for the meal based on that. I opted for the small lobster and my wife got the scallops. We were seated and our server brought some rolls and took our drink orders. We were asked what we wanted for our other courses. First course is chowder, tomato soup, and/or mussels. I had the chowder and my wife had the tomato basil soup. We also had mussels, two large buckets for our table of 6. Soups were good. Mussels were properly cooked but had no additional seasoning. Melted butter was provided to dip them in. After we demolished the mussels, our salad course was served which consisted of a tossed salad along with Cole slaw and potato salad. All were typical, tasty but not exceptional. Next came our main course. My lobster was just a lobster with nothing else. My wife's scallops included potatoes. After all that we get to the dessert course. Their signature dessert is a mile high lemon meringue pie. I was skeptical about the pie as I have been disappointed too many places that pile on a flavorless, dry meringue topping on a barely lemon flavored custard. I was pleasantly surprised with the best lemon pie I have had in many years. The crust was light, flaky, and flavorful. The custard was appropriately tangy with lots of tart, lemon flavor. The meringue, normally a distraction, was moist and lightly sweetened. I would go back here for the pie alone. Finally, our server was very helpful and engaging.

Yelp
One of the best lobsters we have ever had! Friendly service and delicious food! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great food and lots of it. Service was also excellent. This is an upscale "lobster supper" place.plenty of parking. Huge place. Love it.

Yelp
The price seems high but the amount of food is worth it. Amazing warm buns with butter, unlimited mussels, chowder, salad, lobster, strawberry shortcake. No chance of leaving hungry! Must go while in PEI.

Yelp
Absolutely made our trip to the island! Incredible value and service. Our server Sueanne made us feel right at home and was an absolute delight! Food was so so good! Can't say enough good things here. Make a reservation or be prepared to wait(worth it).

Sheri G.

Yelp
Great! It was our second time here - the last time was 16 years ago. Still an excellent place for dinner. The lobster was tasty. The potato salad was delish and I even ate some mussels - and I really don't like mussels. The rolls are incredible - I would have bought a bag of them on the way out if that was an option. It's not a cheap meal but it's well worth the price. Come early as it gets really busy and you can't make a reservation if your group is less than 8. Even so it was worth the half hour or so we waited. We hopefully won't have to wait another 16 years to go again!

Yelp
Reading the other reviews, I was fully prepared for a tourist trap dinner, but was pleasantly surprised. Pay and order at the door. We decided to split a 3 lb lobster, and there was a free grilled cheese in it for the little one. Got seated downstairs, which seemed a lot more orderly (and air conditioned) than the upstairs area. Server was very attentive and everything showed up very timely. Food: Bread: Surprisingly good, though was saving space for the next few courses. Mussels: Good, nothing special, but you are getting fresh mussels that come to your table by the bucket. Salad: Regular salad was meh, coleslaw was meh, potato salad was really good. Chowder: Had the consistency of Elmer glue, and didn't taste much different. Lobster: Done right, and served with butter. Dessert: Got the pie. Good tasting pie with a scoop of vanilla, pie could have been warmer.

Yelp
Came here on Wednesday evening 6pm mid August. Unfortunately there were 3 tour buses that evening so we waited a good 80 minutes for a table. We got lobsters and also scallops. The 1 lb lobster was on the small side, I would suggest at least 1.5-2lb for an adult. Mussels were very good. Chowder wasn't anything special but the tomato basil soup was very good. Desserts were also very good. Waitress was fabulous - running back and forth non stop but always with a smile.

Yelp
Lobster supper is definitely something you have to do while on PEI but not going to lie, the experience was a bit stressful. We arrived at 3:45 to get in line because we didn't want to have to wait forever during prime dinner time. There were a few people in front of us but we got in pretty quickly once they opened the doors. Unfortunately there was a giant tour bus that came in so they seated them first which made the regular seating process a bit slow. They were still kind of setting stuff out in the seating area when we were waiting to be seated which backed things up as well. Once we got our table our server came over right away and brought us water. We started with a cup of chowder and a cup of tomato soup. I preferred the tomato because it was very flavorful and tasted awesome with the mussels which was the next course. We actually ordered another cup of tomato so we could dip the mussels in! Everything is all you can eat so we definitely took advantage of that with the soup and mussels. We ate two buckets of the mussels they were so yummy! They provide you with a side of butter for dipping but we didn't really use it because the mussels tasted good on their own or with the tomato soup. Salad plate was yummy: coleslaw, greens, and potato salad. The dressing was a bit too much oil, but the potato salad was super tasty and had a nice crunch thanks to the celery. The main event, the lobster, was tasty. I enjoyed the claw the most because the meat is more tender and juicy. However, the tail meat was great as well especially when dipped in butter. My mom and I shared the 2 pound lobster which was perfect for us after all the appetizers :) I was really happy that the cooks had sliced the lobster shell for us as it made it much easier to reach the meat. Service was a bit spotty once more guests had been seated because our server began to be overwhelmed. It's understandable but it also isn't nice to wait forever for water... I also didn't like how pushy people were while waiting in line which made getting inside really stressful.

Yelp
This place is an experience in itself. You wait in line and pay for your meal before you get seated. Drinks are paid for in the dining area. I highly recommend going early. We arrived at 5:00 and waited about 10 minutes to be seated. It's at least a 2 hour experience. We ordered the lobster dinner, which came, chowder, salads, mussels, buns, and lobster and dessert. Everything is unlimited excepted for the lobster. The mussels were so fresh and tasty and they bought a big bucket over to the table for the 3 of us to share, the chowder was hot and flavourful. The salad dish contained a small garden salad, coleslaw, and a potato salad. The lobster was well prepared and nicely cut which made it easy to eat. The dessert were great too and they had many different options of pie. We didn't try the strawberry shortcake but I have a feeling that is their trademark dessert. Next time we go back we'll likely stop in again. I would say it is a must if you are in PEI.

Linda B.

Yelp
We were at the lobster dinner a few years ago. I had too much that time , but we decided to come back and not eat do much lol . We really enjoyed our meal. The chowder was so good. The mussels were excellent! I ate so much (again)I hardly had room for dessert. Our waitress was a lovely young woman. She said she had worked there for over six years and you could tell by the way she took care of us that she loves her job very much.
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
You pay at the door for your main, anything from lobster, salmon, steak to other things. While your seated it get unlimited bread, mussels, soups and deserts. Overall the food ok and I would of given this place a 3 or a 4, but we got sick when we got home after eating here.

Heather J.

Yelp
What an amazing meal! The place was so busy, but our waitress Karley had the best attitude and was friendly and helpful. The meal itself was wonderful--all the food was perfectly cooked and delicious. It's a unique PEI experience!

Yelp
Definitely on the to-do list when in PEI. Best rolls ive ever had. Its atlantic comfort food and the staff is friendly like all maritimers.

Yelp
Touring through PEI we stopped in for this seafood dinner. Mussels, bread, chowder, salad and dessert along with your main course. There's more than enough food. The chowder was lacking flavor, but dessert more than made up for it.

Lisa R.

Yelp
Inconsistent quality... We stopped by here on two occasions for two lobster suppers, days apart, and the lobster size (2 pounds) and appearance ordered on the first day was vastly different than the second visit (our last supper on PEI). The staff (hostess, gentleman at the front cash, etc.) and the lobsters we enjoyed the first visit were great...that is why we returned two days later. I expressed dissatisfaction with the appearance of my lobster on the second visit (it looked unappealing, well under 2 pounds (much much smaller) by comparison to the one I had 48 hours before, and the dark claws were not as full)...but the server would not change it (and I would have waited for a proper replacement and been fine). I did not want to make a scene, but after spending more than $400 on two visits I expected more from customer service and quality control. We left without finishing our dishes or having dessert as I was upset by the whole experience. The lobsters and service on the first visit were good, that is why we returned...but I would not return again given the cost for the value received and lack of customer service on the part of the server. When a customer is spending almost $200 for a meal, was there 48 hours before and spent another $225....and clearly is showing frustration and dissatisfaction on the second visit....you bring them another lobster rather than leaving them so disheartened and disappointed. We will not be returning as there are much better restaurants on the island with both great food quality at the same or better price point and much better customer service.

Yelp
Great place. I had the lobster. It comes with rolls, potato salad, coleslaw, green salad, clam chowder, mussels, water or soft drink, dessert and coffee or tea. My wife had the vegetarian option with was penne pasta and tomato basil soup. She said they were very good. The service is friendly. The dessert we both picked was the lemon meringue pie. Some of the best we have ever had. Got seconds on the dessert. The beer was reasonable priced. Had the blueberry ale. It was very nice

Yelp
Excellent lobster supper, great value! They don't take reservations except for groups larger than 7. We had to wait ~40 minutes for table of 5 at 6pm, so I would recommend either going with a big enough group that you can make a reservation or go earlier to avoid the long lines. Service is excellent (as with all PEI eateries it seems). Our entire group had the lobster dinner (but other non-lobster and/or non-seafood option mains are available!) The chowder, mussels, and salad were all "bottom-less" (i.e.: you can ask for more). The mussels were on the smaller side, but still very fresh and delicious. The salad variety was also very impressive (each plate had cole slaw, potato salad, & garden salad). The lobster main was great and you finish the meal by choosing one of many homemade desserts (which come with ice cream!).

Yelp
Highly recommended! This is the best lobster place I have ever been in Prince Edward Island!! We waited there for 1 and half hours, really long line up especially it is the long weekend. I almost lost my patience. But, I have to say, it is really worth to wait. Their lobster dinner combo comes with lobster, bread roll, clam chowder, a big box of blue mussel, salad, drinks and dessert. Very fresh tasty (no fishy at all for the mussel), reasonable price, and friendly services! Will definitely go back again when I revisit PEI! But I will try to go there as early as they open ;) [4-8:30 pm, they only serve dinner]

Yelp
I went to this place and was hesitant at first. But the dinner was great! Had amazing seafood chowder and strawberry shortcake. Warm bread and salad were ok. Lobster is pretty standard but appreciated them cracking it for me for ease of eating. I had a good time and took a gamble between this place and the other lobster house nearby but I think I made the right choice. Don't even have to try the other place. Too scared it will be worst for the good at new Glasgow was already pretty good. Would go back again.

Yelp
While driving back to Charlottetown after visiting Cavendish, it occurred to us that we needed to take part in one of the famous lobster suppers in these parts. We had driven by New Glasgow on our way to Cavendish, so we decided to go back there. It is an easy drive from Charlottetown. When you enter you order your main course and everything else is all-you-can-eat. Total bill for a 1 lb Lobster for me and Pan Seared Scallops for Ms T was ~$70 CAD. We each started with chowder and I had a bucket of mussels. The chowder was the first we had in the Maritimes that was thickened. It was OK, not great. It was very plain and unseasoned. A little salt, pepper and butter would really help. I added butter and some of my mussels. We are not all-you-can-eat types, so one bowl was enough. The mussels were good, fresh but pretty much unseasoned. I liked them and ate them all, but a little attention to seasoning would be nice. (I had mussels at a Belgian themed restaurant in St Louis about a week later and they were better. And this is a few thousand miles from mussel waters). I will say that my lobster was some of the best I have had and this was out of season, I was told. I didn't want to overdo the amount, but a 1 pounder is about 4 bites. It was so tender, not rubbery the way lobster can be. I really should have gotten a larger one. Ms T found the scallops to be more steamed than pan seared. I agreed, there was no sear as advertised, but they were flavorful. It was just a mediocre preparation. You need to stick to the lobster. The portion of mussels was large. All of the other sides were OK, not special. We did really like the rolls that they served. The pie for dessert was commercial, the cake was mediocre and the chocolate ice cream was tasteless. This is a place to be experienced at least once. I came away with the impression that it is a community cooking effort, kind of like a church supper. The food seems a little institutional, kind of mass appeal. Obviously you won't go away hungry, but we just don't need all-you-can-eat, so it is not inexpensive for us. I'm sure the big eaters will love it, but we had much better food, in general, at most seafood restaurants. I will happily pay more for less, but better food.

Yelp
We had a party of 14 for early dinner last August 1st. You order your entree as you enter then they have you seated on your table. Our server was very pleasant and quick. They have unlimited mussels! The mussels were delicious. They were quick to refill. Good salad and yummy lobster too! I ordered salmon, it was ok. Then once your done, you can have your coffee, dessert and ice cream. I would highly recommend this place. All worth the experience in Prince Edward Island!

Yelp
This is a pay before you eat setup so you may want to try to have a look at the menu beforehand if possible. Overall, we found lobster to be excellent and we enjoyed the experience. I would recommend avoid being seated on the lower level though if you have any dizziness or vertigo issues. They have a mirrored ceiling and floors that are not level which could be disorienting. Both my wife and I noticed a bit of dizziness when leaving. Food quality: I found the bread to be warm and freshly baked, the chowder to be a bit bland, the muscles to be good, the lobster to be excellent, and the desserts to be excellent as well. Food quantity Mussels and desserts were unlimited, order the 3lb dinner for two Lobster and it was huge. I found the claw to be massive, it was great if you enjoy the sweeter claw meet. Quality of service I found our server to be very friendly, couteous, competent, and enthusiastic. He made it a very enjoyable experience. Ambience and atmosphere I found it to be very busy with a lively background, what I would expect from a lobster supper experience. Menu and variety I found the menu to be simple and straightforward. Price and value Price was about $100 for a family of four, I was satisfied with the value. Other customers It was a busy environment made up of mostly families. Professionalism I found the staff to be professional overall.

Yelp
Worth the drive to New Glasgow!! Come hungry. From start to finish this is a classic feast. Rolls, chowder, muscles, salad, lobster and the best desserts. The staff is so friendly and the view is beautiful. Highly recommend.

Yelp
A horrible tourist trap nightmare. Preference given to large reserved groups (can't make a reservation if you aren't a large group) so we stood in line while group after group breezed past us and while the host completely ignored us and the long line behind us. Moved to another line wherd the host and server walked past us without acknowledging us for a good 10 minutes. Once ackbowledged were brusquely ushered to a standing room only shabby lounge with no furniture and no service, save a bar you can belly up to with poor selection. No estimation of how long it would be. We ended up leaving because after half an hour none of the many people ahead of us had been seated, nobody had left, and many more groups had been seated. When we asked for a refund the guy at the desk handed over the money immediately and unconcernedly like it was a thing that happens quite regularly.

Yelp
Unless you are on a tour bus, don't bother..... Wife and I arrived on a random Wednesday in summer. Behind two bus tours, who are obviously the bread and butter of this place. Restaurant is slightly oddball as it is a hall in the middle of nowhere. Given the right moves, this can be awesome. There are no right moves here however, so it just ends up being a weird dinner in a hall in the middle of nowhere. With atrocious service and average fare. Where you are clearly a second class citizen if you are not on the coach (bus) tour. We order food (at the cash register up front, and then moved downstairs to the dining room for an interminable wait), and sat for more than 30 minutes until our waitress arrived. We were within two minutes of leaving and unfortunately, just as we were about to leave, she arrived. We would have been far better off if we left. Cest la vie. Dinner is an all you can eat affair of appetizers and your lobster. Chowder was bland, and mussels were OK. Lobster also OK. Dessert was meh. All in all, reasonably forgettable. Had it taken an hour or so, it would honestly be forgotten. No harm done. However it took the better part of 2 + hours for this affair. With waits of 30 minutes plus between courses or service. While all those around us were served. Mainly the bus patrons. As we desperately tried to get anyone to serve or pay attention to us. As we had a quiet word with management on the way out, my wife was treated to rude and confrontational behavior from the manager. Who accused her of lying, and dressed her down for the feedback, along with a heavy dose of indifference and contempt. None of which is appreciated after spending my hard earned dollars for your average meal that took almost 3 hours (on a Wednesday night) In summary, if you are on the bus, by all means go there and receive the priority service with 50 of your best friends. If you are not on the tour bus, give this place a miss. Big time.

Yelp
My wife called in the morning to make a reservation. We were told that a party of seven cannot book a reservation because they don't book reservations for less than eight people. We were recommended to arrive early and that it gets busy typically at 5:30pm. As suggested, we decided to show up at 5:00pm to avoid the rush. When we arrived, we were told that they didn't have a table big enough for us available and that we would have to be split up. As a family of five with three girls aged 12, 10 and 7 and two grandparents, we wanted to stay together. To eat together as a family, we were told we could wait at the bar or come back later. We asked when and were told that they couldn't tell us. We were recommended to come back at 5:45 to try again. I let the woman we were dealing with know that we tried to make a reservation earlier (which would have avoided the situation) and she said sternly "we don't take reservations for less than eight people". I let her know that I'd include that in my online reviews. This individual showed no empathy at this moment and immediately turned her back to us and walked away. We came back at 5:40 and there were no tables available. This time, we decided to wait at the bar. We waited a full hour to be seated; families with young children know that this is far from an optimal situation. The eight people rule for reservations seems arbitrary to me and the fact that they wouldn't accommodate our family of seven with a reservation was extremely rigid; a little bit of flexibility could have avoided our dissatisfaction regarding the reservation process and prevented the long wait for our family. This brings me to the second part of this review. Our waitress was really nice and I believe she tried really hard, but the restaurant was clearly not staffed adequately for the amount of people that were eating (it was overcrowded and very noisy). When we were finished, it was 8:36. We had spent two hours and fifty six minutes since arriving the second time. In between, we waited about a half hour for mussels, another half hour for a water jug refresh, and so on. In conclusion, the food itself was fantastic, but I still managed to leave with a foul taste in my mouth. Not only did this overall experience disappoint me enough to write this review, but it also directly affected your bottom line; we didn't buy any drinks and I downgraded my intended meal by around twenty dollars (the ham was really good, though lol). My rating is reflective of a five for food and a one for overall experience (rounded down for obvious reasons). If these management/policy decisions are not changed so that people can reasonably make a reservation and more staffing is hired, I would recommend that if you are a party of six or seven, reserve for eight and say that one or two didn't show up. You'll be much more satisfied with your experience.

Yelp
The lobster is great. Super fresh, basic preparation, add some butter and you're golden. While the all-you-can-eat experience is fun, the rest of the food (mussels, salad, pie/ice cream) was just average. With that said, if you're looking for lobster, this is your spot!

Yelp
Absolutely horrendous. Got the haddock. I wonder if it was microwaved. Service was slow. First and last outing to this joint.

Yelp
This was on a top ten of PEI so thought I'd give it a shot. Arrived early with a friend at 4pm, waited in line for a bit, and was seated shortly after arriving. Our waitress was great, no complaints there. The bread was warm and tasty. But the salad was like something out of wartime England, bland and not at all fresh. Not a fan of lobster so I tried the haddock. Blah! It was the blandest piece of fish ever, I'm sure it was just boiled with nothing else. I stole my friend's lemon wedge and melted butter to add flavor to the fish. Veggies were sad, like hospital food as someone else said. Pie was good though. I want to like this place and certainly as a business it is impressive for its scale and efficiency, but the food left this customer unimpressed.

Yelp
We came to the lobster supper on a Wednesday evening around 5:45. There didn't appear to be much of a line but we learned that the lineup to pay first, then get in a line for the lounge, then give your name at the front and move to the lounge. In totally we probably waited about 35-40 mins to be seated. We were eventually seated downstairs, which was quieter, cooler, and right beside a window that had a lovely view of the river. For our meals, I chose a one pound lobster, and my partner the hot ham as she does not eat seafood. Once we were seated, our server, Evan, explained the process to us. We started with delicious bread and butter, and then came the mussels. As I was the only one eating them (my partner does not like seafood), I asked Evan to bring a smaller amount to the table than the large bucket I saw other tables getting. I worked my way through them - they were fresh and simply cooked (steamed, I think). The seafood chowder was also good. Evan informed us that we could have more of anything except the actual lobster - but I found it difficult to judge how much of everything I might want and still have room for my lobster and dessert. After the mussels came a small plate of salads - coleslaw, garden salad, and potato salad. All covered in paprika, FYI for those who might not like paprika. And then it was time for the main event. My lobster came pre-cracked which certainly made it easier to eat. I requested a lobster bib and they also have paper placements with instructions that I found helpful for making sure I didn't miss any lobster meat. The lobster was small as I only chose the 1 lb but it was completely sufficient considering all the other food. I got mine served hot but there is a cold option as well. My partner had the hot ham and reported that it wasn't very good, that the scalloped potatoes served with it had no flavor as well. After my lobster came our choice of desserts - we chose chocolate cake and coconut cream pie. Both were quite delicious, and I had tea with mine as well. Overall, for what it was, the meal was good. It's not something I would choose to do again, because meals based on volume are not something I normally choose (I don't like to eat big meals because of acid reflux). However, given that this was a "must do" Island experience, I'm glad we made the effort to try it out. I would recommend it to anyone wanting the 'lobster supper experience', as well as anyone who likes to eat unlimited food at their dinner.

Yelp
Know what you're getting yourself into. That's my advice. If your party is less than 8 people, you can't do a reservation. We went last week and stood in line for one hour. The meal itself was good, but, in my opinion, it was not $50.00 per person (38.00 plus tax, tip and drinks) good. I would rather go to Red Lobster, really, honestly. It's an over-crowded, noisy place (essentially a community hall - think big wedding). Staff is great. They are not the issue and are probably the best reason to go. The food is, truthfully, rather forgettable. I won't be going back. I haven't decided yet about whether or not I enjoyed the experience.

Yelp
One word: YUM. Let's get this straight: You pick the size lobster you want to eat (my wife and I shared a 4 pounder). You get unlimited fresh steamed mussels that taste like the ocean, AND chowder, AND coleslaw. You eat the lobster. Then you get dessert and coffee. Oh and everyone around you is doing the same and having a great time. Service was excellent - they just kept bringing out the buckets of mussels. My family and kids loved it. This is a must-do PEI dining experience. 5 stars. Tip: Go early to avoid the lines. The wait can be long but it's worth it!
