New Golden Dragon

My partner and I always go even before they open; that's the trick to finding parking. The food at that time is fresh, and the service is impeccable. We love dim sum in general; it's our go-to Sunday plan. This photo was taken on Christmas Day 2025, but I'm only just writing my review now. I was, as always, fascinated by the food and the service.

I'm in SLC for a few weeks. I just got my kidney transplant so I'll be kicking it in the area for a while. With my time here, I must find all the local Chinese joints to hit up and eat at. This joint is one of the few dim sum joints in town. Dim sum is something we don't have in Boise. So with that being said, I will be making sure I come back to have some! But for tonight it's dinner. We did come more towards early dinner. It was pretty empty which was nice. The venue is an older joint. You can tell it's been around and done it's time. Usually a clear indicator that the food should be good! I'm not supposed to be around a lot of people so the fact it was empty made me feel comfortable eating here. We walked in and were greeted. Homie wasn't the nicest but he got us sat. The menu is quite huge! I love all the options available. And the prices! The prices of everything was reasonable. As much as I wanted something huge and hearty, I ordered the won ton soup with egg noodles. I thought the broth would be good for my soul since I have been living off of hospital food for the last week. I don't think my stomach could handle such a big, hearty meal. Nothing sounds more delicious than 7 or 8 different dishes with a huge bowl of steamed rice. The won ton came out in these big beautiful white bowls. You can smell the sesame oil from the broth. You see chunky pieces of the won ton. A good portion of egg noodles. And gracious portions of bok choy. The broth hit so good with that first sip. It was rich and savory. You can tell that broth had been cooked for a long time. The won tons were not lacking. They were meaty and salty. You get 6 big pieces of won ton. The noodles had a slight chew to them which was nice. Soggy noodles isn't it! I enjoyed a majority of my broth. I did eat a won ton and some of the noodles. That's all my stomach would allow. I'm so torn about how many stars I would give. The food was definitely a 4 but the service was a 2. We were not greeted nicely. The gentleman that served us didn't even check up on us. He was actually kicking it in the waiting area playing with his phone. It was another server that helped us when we were done that was actually kind. He was interacting with us, got us to go containers and our bill. I feel like that's your basic baseline of service and our original server failed. I know I will be back. I have read the reviews about their dim sum and they seem pretty legit. I enjoy the carts of dumplings and fried vodka being pushed around . The sound of people's chopsticks hitting plates. The loud noise of eating and being merry. It's the sound of my childhood growing up in the Bay Area and u can't wait to relive it! I guess I will finalize my ranking in a couple weeks when I got this joint up. But for today, they were ok with food and service combined.

we ordered to go. we walked in and the restaurant was humid and completely empty. upon ordering $70 of food, we ate none of it. the potsticker was enormous and the worst thing i have ever put in my mouth, the cream cheese wonton was soggy and bad, the egg rolls were cold and wet, and the fried rice was so bland but the only thing edible. after this experience we quickly abandoned the beef and broccoli, and threw the rest away. i would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, it was so genuinely terrible.

I ha a great meal here only place where you can get cart dim sum so it’s very special. Note they do serve dim sum every day but on weekends during brunch they have carts.

Being from California, we are picky about good Asian food. This place can rival other dim sum places in California. The pork spare ribs (which other places have messed up on) we're flavorful, turnip cake was crispy, the tripe was flavorful, intestines were some of the best l've ever ate, the shrimp and chive dumplings were filled, and all the regular dim sum items were good. The decor was outdated but we were here for food and they did not disappointment. Highly recommend.

Lot of fly passing by near my table Table were very dirty. Dishes not wash properly Food stay in the out so long . Everything I ate were cold Waiter/host was confused when i said for two people. Expensive for just seven dishes and small portions Total was 65 (including tips)

Great dim sum for weekend! We had a nice family dim sum brunch (5 adults and 2 kids). There was a good variety of dim sum and the attendants with the carts were attentive and helpful. The atmosphere is lively with a lot of people coming out for dim sum that they have over the weekend only. They do a good job with the little kids. The decor may be in need of a refresh, but it was generally okay. We had ordered a couple of side dishes also and they were excellent. Bathroom was clean, just really cold (we came in February).

One of the most delicious Chinese Restaurants in the Salt Lake City area. It’s right on State Street for easy access. The service is prompt and efficient. The menu is vast with many choices. Potstickers are different than we’ve ever had. You can tell they are homemade but not many veggies inside. Almost all meat! Not a modern super clean place, it’s an older building but the food is worth giving it a try!

We had a great lunch at New Golden Dragon when we were in town. It was Sunday and not a lot of options were open and serving food during a late lunch. It was bustling inside. We ordered some typical dim sum items and a large dish to share between the two of us. All of the food was good. Service was friendly and helpful. They kept the tea refilled. There was parking outside the restaurant; we drove there. I would definitely come back if I'm in Salt Lake City again and need Chinese food. I can recommend New Golden Dragon for real Chinese food, just like at home.

My goal was to make it in one more time to try their dim sum before I left SLC. Well, I was leaving today and had to seize my opportunity for one last good meal. We stopped at New Golden Dragon for dim sum before we hit the road. We showed up at 10:45 and kicked it in the parking lot til opening. Once those doors opened at 11, we were in. We got sat, looked over the dim sum listed and got our goodies ordered. We sipped on some hot tea while our food was being prepared. Before we knew it, metal steamers started trickling out. Everything, I mean everything was delicious! And we ordered enough food for 8 people for the 3 of us but we needed to try it all! The turnup cake was so good! The steamed shrimp dumplings were perfect. Sticky rice in lotus leaf was soft and savory. The fried shrimp dumplings were out of this world! The wrapping on the outside as crispy! The middle was thick and savory! And then you add the sweet sauce to it.... game over! They are soooooo good! The shu mai was thick and hearty. I can't express to you how amazingly good it all was! The thought of not being able to not have food like this to April saddens me! I could eat this everyday! Service was night and day compared to my first visit. The two gentleman working today were so nice and attentive. If I would have received the same service as today on my first visit, I would have eaten here multiple times! But, it didn't happen that way and today showed me the light for future visits. I do wish they had the long steamed noodles with the sweet soy sauce. That would have been the cherry on top! Overall, food was killer and I can't wait to come back in April and smash out another round of dim sum at this joint.

Great portions and definitely a solid spot if you're dining with a big group. The fried rice was delicious and full of flavor. The orange chicken wasn't my favorite, but everything else made up for it. The space is comfortable for groups, and overall it's worth giving this place a try if you're in the area.

Large space and lots of menu options. We ordered the dried scallop fried rice, egg drop soup, honey walnut shrimp, and sweet and sour chicken. Good chinese food and big portions.

Went for dim sum on the weekend. Parking lot was full. Had an old school Chinese restaurant feel - seating for large groups. I imagine they do lots of weddings and other functions as they have a smalll stage and dance floor. Dim sum carts come around quickly with a good number of choices. We got the shrimp har gow, steamed char siu baos, pork siu mai, and Chinese broccoli. Everything was good. Be sure to get their chili oil which adds another level of heat and flavor to the dishes. Would go back to try more.

Dim sum has only 2 prices. $6 and $9. Most are $6. There is no parking but restaurant is very big inside and fit a lot of people. Egg tarts look so good but I was too full already.

Servers were great, in my personal opinion the har gow was bland. The pork shu mai was a bit gamey and the shanghai dumplings were dried out and didnt taste fresh. The orange chicken came out hot but the rice had 0 flavor. I highly recommend the bbq steam bun, that and the fortune cookie was my favorite part of this meal

Food was pretty good, generous portions off the lunch menu. Service was very attentive and accommodating to anything needed. The restaurant could use updating. But overall a good time with a group of six and not to many people on a Monday.

Not too many options for dim sum on a weekday. The restaurant is not busy during a weekday lunch time, so it was a quiet place for friends to hang out. The pickled vegetables with fish (酸菜鱼） is a stir fried dish and very spicy. We were expecting this would be a soup dish, but we were wrong. The food tasted average. Services are good. Lots of parking space.

it's a little run down chinese joint with pretty good food overall. the restaurant is old but that's usually a good indicator of good food right? we came in during a weekday so it was really slow. i'm sure this place is packed on a weekend. we ordered shrimp dumplings, sticky rice in lotus leaf, pork bao buns, potstickers, and shanghai dumplings. all were great. my only critique is that the shrimp dumplings had pretty thick skin and not that prominent sesame oil flavor i was wanting. potstickers were very large and filling. the other items were pretty standard and nothing special. the staff was friendly and i'd come again.

Best homestyle Chinese food in the Salt Lake Valley. Their chow fun cannot be beat, and I'm obsessed with their snow pea leaves (it's not on the menu but order it!!!!). Also love their eggplant in garlic sauce. Service is quick but no frills. Same staff has been working there for the 4 years I've been coming here.

I came here with the family for the first time in years, and I was massively disappointed with the food. We ordered two beef dishes and two chicken dishes to share. The beef tasted strange, and I didn't like it at all. The chicken dishes were okay. The egg drop soup sadly tasted like it came from a can. The ham fried rice saved the day because it was delicious. The egg roll, silver wrapped chicken, and fried shrimp were also good. The service was fast and friendly. The ambiance, like the food, was not the best as the table was a bit dirty and one of the plates had old food on it before we scooped up our own food. I likely will not visit this restaurant again.

Many options. I eat there and order take out regularly. Today I ordered chicken with straw mushrooms on the lunch menu. The food was good as usual but there were no straw mushrooms. I mentioned that when I went to pay and mostly got a blank look but I repeated there are no straw mushrooms and he said they just call it that. I said that was not right to call it straw mushrooms if there were none and he said he'd tell the owner. Which I doubt will happen. Anyway I'm happy with my food here almost always but this just seems odd and makes me wonder what else on the extensive menu is called something it is not.

Classic dim sum service, multiple carts, many choices. Fine quality. Baked bbq pork bin is excellent, and hard to find in the area. Har gow and Shumai also great. Lots of seating. Parking may take more effort.

I ordered cashew chicken and I got a plate of vegetable soup with tiny tiny pieces of chicken and cashews. Find another restaurant.

Went for dim sum on a Sunday, not many choices especially because I don't eat pork. I think they only had 4 options total. The shrimp dumpling was good though. I ended up ordering shrimp lo mien from the menu and it came out quick and hot. It was delicious! I prefer it with more veggies so next time I'll order the veggie lo mien with shrimp. Service was great, even though I usually don't expect food service at such places. I will try somewhere else for dim sum.

Great food, good people, kind of retro, delicious food, Generous portions and I mean bordering on ridiculous.

This is more for those who have not tried dim sum before just fyi! I've been coming here for years for dim sum and have learned a thing or two: - Best to go on weekends, Sunday is preferable bc they have a larger variety - Arriving between 11:30AM - 11:45AM to beat the church crowd and food is typically served fresher at this time to prepare for the rush - I recommend going with more than two people to try more items. Also larger parties are set in areas with more traffic flow for dim sum carts - especially during the rush, kids will play on the stage which can get noisy and rambunctious so keep in mind! - this should not be compare to traditional dim sum places like SF or anywhere really with a decent Chinatown (SL's isn't even a town, it's just a single plaza lolol) Came on a Sunday around 11:35AM with a group of 8 and were sat quickly. When we sat down, we were asked if we wanted tea. Traditionally hot tea is served with dim sum. They have Oolong, Jasmine, and Chrysanthemum tea. We ordered Chrysanthemum and for 6 and 8 waters. Had to ask for two new cups and a plate bc they weren't clean - we always check this dishes that were already set at the table. We always ask for chili oil at this point bc you're more likely to get it the first time asked before you get food. Staff has gotten friendlier, which isn't typically an expectation for dim sum (but I don't mind and feel it's authentic in the experience) lol. They brought a cup of chili oil, but we had to use chopsticks to scoop, bc they didn't have a spoon we could use, which isn't ideal. Ordered a couple rounds of dim sum. Everything was hot and delicious! Some notes on a few items: - the BBQ pork buns were cooked perfectly (the dough can sometimes be undercooked from time to time, and not just at Golden Dragon)! - the sweet tofu is silken tofu in a warm lightly sweet ginger syrup - next time I'm going to ask for more syrup (fingers crossed) - Chinese broccoli came with a light colored sauce which was new to see! Everyone seemed to enjoy the new sauce more as it was less salty - when we finished the tea, we made sure to take the pot lid and set it angled so staff new we needed more tea. Unfortunately we had to ask a few times until we received a fresh pot. - also tried get a takeout order off the menu, but had to eventually go up to pay for dim sum to order a to-go bc staff were busy with the dim sum rush. Dim sum typically has no designated server to your table so asking multiple people/times is typical, in my opinion. - staff are typically good about busing any empty tins, but this time they didn't. This wasn't a huge deal since we were just about done when things started to stack up. None of these things are surprising to me as a seasoned dim sum-mer, but as first -timer it might be a shock/overwhelming. None of things I mentioned deter us - it is what it is, and what it is, is pretty good dim sum :)

You don't usually come to salt lake for the asian food, though there are some hidden gems... this, however, isn't one of them. The price is pretty good for the quantity of food, but the quality's pretty poor. Their soy milk is crave-worthy, but everything else feels 'gloppy.' My wife and I both got food poisoning the last time we went, and probably won't be going back until we've forgotten or repressed those horrors.

After a few visits, the food here has been consistent and good. Not overwhelmingly amazed, but I think this place is solid for Chinese food. The place looks rundown, inside and out, and I honestly thought it wasn't open the first time I came here. The Mr. and I came about an hour before closing. Only one section of the restaurant was kept open most likely to this reason. The most recent visit we decided on the family meal which currently is about $18 a person. Comes with 2 entrees (your choice from the list on the menu), egg drop soup, ham fried rice, and a few small items - 2 tempura shrimp, 2 chicken pieces wrapped in foil and 2 spring rolls. For the entrees we chose pon pon chicken and honey walnut shrimp (I think it's called something else here because it wasn't on the menu but it was offered). Both were pretty good, flavor matched the name. The small items were okay. Egg drop soup was warm-ish. We also ordered a side beef lo mein which was my favorite of the meal. Flavorful and it did not skimp on the beef at all. We would definitely order this again. It also heated up well the next day along with the other entrees. Service was cordial as it has been each time I've been here. They are quick to clean up tables, especially at the end of the night. Conversation is nice but also quick and to the point. Parking is decent but if you have a large party, some planning will be needed. Wheelchair accessible.

If you want to have some authentic Cantonese food, THIS IS THE PLACE! My Hong Kong friends and I agree that New Golden Dragon has the best dim sum. You can tell how good they are by how busy this place always is, especially on weekends. Their parking lot usually is not enough to accommodate all the customers -- a lot of people need to park on the street. One time, I had to walk more than a block to find a parking spot... but it's worth it! Some of my go-to dishes are: shrimp dumpling, pork dumpling, steamed pork spareribs, century egg and pork porridge, bean curd wrap, shrimp stuffed eggplant, steamed salted egg bun, and beef ball. My favorite dish is their chives cake. When fresh and hot, the aroma and taste are incredible. Recently, I tried their soy milk, and it was SO GOOD (my friend was reluctant to try but then finished the whole thing). Their tofu dessert is pretty good too; very silky. I have to say, though, their pan-fried turnip cake is not very good. Gave it a few tries already in the times I've gone, and I won't order it anymore. This is a great place for big groups. The bigger tables can fit like ten people, and with the turntables, everyone can easily get the dish they'd like. When wanting to eat dim sum, I recommend going with a group of at least 6 people. This way, you get to share and try various dishes.

I always drove past this place headed south on State and always thought it was closed but na they open Looks can be deceiving cuz it's hella big inside Anyways it's probably the best dim sum on State street unless you got a better spot (and yes I said best cuz i haven't tried that other place across from McDonald's up the street) The chicken feet was aight and they take apple pay K bye

Dim Sum is worse than Panda Express or Costco frozen food. It's not fresh and obviously premade and reheated. Worst Dim Sum in Utah.

One of our fams fave. We had Chinese new years here and what a cool experience. They had the lions come thru and had a raffle drawing. It was so fun and food is always consistently yummy. We are frequents here. Def check it out

I don't know how to say this without sounding like a snob, but New Golden Dragon just isn't New, nor Golden, nor a mighty Dragon in the Salt Lake Chinese food scene. It's dilapidated, and a veneer of dirt and age seems to coat the front of the house. I can't even imagine what the kitchen might look like. The menu has over 100+ items from all across the Chinese Culinary World. Fan favs like Ma Po Tofu and even Buddha Jumps Over the Wall. Sounds great? It doesn't. While there are exceptions, generally an expansive menu means the restaurant is good at none. I tried out their Wonton w/ Noodles. A fairly simple dish with simple ingredients. It came out piping hot, but even an amateur could tell that it was created without much effort. The Bok Choy was just cut down the middle, not even actually prepped correctly. The noodles tasted fine, but the wontons tasted more like beef balls (牛肉丸) than wontons. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. All of that just plopped into a bowl of chicken stock. Disappointing.

So this place has been around for a long time and I have a greater appreciation for it. They still do the classic carts on the weekends and you can also get dim sum during the off times as well along with other dishes. It's a classic spot that serves all the traditional dim sum items along with some more selections. My brothers really like the Honey Walnut Shrimp and is a great item to share. Service is much better than what I remember and am glad that this place still exists! Parking is limited, but there are plenty of tables. One of the go to spot to hose an Asian wedding in Salt Lake! Pretty standard ambiance that is open.

I had not been here in several years and now I remember why. The service is terrible and food is sub par. I had a to-go order, only two tables in the entire restaurant and it took almost 30 minutes, I still left a 22% tip. When I got home I realized they forgot my shrimp, egg roll, and soup.

This restaurant has all the vibes of a Chinese restaurant. It may look a Tad rundown, But it's a great restaurant, and a Chinese favorite! The food is simply delicious ! My grandson loved the pom-pom chicken so much that we came back the next day! I on the other hand, love the beef and oyster sauce! It's perfection! I had a bite of his pom-pom chicken and boy did I have to agree with him. It was awesome.! The lunch special comes with egg, drop soup, my favorite, and the hot and sour soup which my husband says is the best ever! There's a shrimp and an egg roll, and the price is $8.95! What a bargain in this day and age and delicious on top of that! There are two waiters who try to keep up with all the customers ! They are very nice.

Ordered takeout from this place so I can't say much about the atmosphere or service. I got the Mongolian Beef and it was genuinely wonderful. Really rich flavors lots of beef, lots of veggies, everything very fresh and still warm. They had also packaged everything really well so there wouldn't be any spills, and I just really appreciate that. My friend got the Szechuan beef and it was also wonderful. We both commented how nice it was that they both had distinct flavors, both rich and different from each other. This is not like so many other Chinese food places in Utah that just do the same sauce on different meats and veggies, they were really different dishes (and both fantastic)

I'm still on the hunt for the best dim sum in Utah. I read this place was the best but I beg to differ. We went on a Sunday in hopes of fresh hot carts with lots to choose from. There were carts but almost everything was lukewarm and some cold. The only hot item was when it came straight from the kitchen. I was also put off by the lake of cleanliness. So I have to say the Red Maple is the best I've found so far.

Was not bad when we visited. Not a lot of people at 3:45 pm Will try again . Next time get pics for all too see.

Not worth the time to throw out Ordered: 1 Fried Rice, 1 Egg-Foo-Yung, 1 Shrimp Appetizer, and a Coke. The only flavor the shrimp had was cooking oil; they were still dripping with it. The rest was just inedible; even the Coke was flat. I am a Chef, I am qualified to pass this judgment: BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!

This is one of the few dim sum places left in SLC. At the height of the pandemic, I did a lot of take out from here. Food was almost always ready at the estimated time. No complaint there. I recently went there for dine-in on a Sunday. Got there at 11 and did not have any problem getting table. It does get crowded at around noon so plan accordingly. The dim sum was great. The variety was pretty good also. I would definitely recommend.

After a few visits since 2020, this place has been consistently good food for the price it has to offer. They have a decent variety for Dim Sum, but I wouldn't say they have the best Dim Sum in SLC. They have a pretty solid Lunch special, and it's worth going for that. The service is fine, they are attentive when needed. The environment is fine, only certain sections of the restaurants are available for seating, though it seems they can take a pretty decent crowd of customers. They have good Siu Mai and Beef Tripe.

Yeah guys, if you love dim sum, this is the place to be. The staff is friendly, and they'll get the food for you. You don't have to wait. They have gotten better and better each year I've gone there. Now, I'm obsessed with their dessert options. They have all my favorites! Eat everything and remember to save room for dessert.

My first time having dim sum in Utah and it was better than I had expected. While it's not up to par with dim sum in Los Angeles, this place was actually quite good! Better than my home town San Diego! We ordered a variety of dishes (see pics) and everything tasted great! Hands down the best were the steamed SALTED EGG buns. They have the regular steamed egg custard buns, but you have to ask for the steamed salted egg buns. You will want more than just 1 order! It's a nice balance between sweet and salty, and the filling is piping hot and will flow like lava. Take precautions in making that first bite. My suggestion: take a tiny bite and slurp out some of the filling so it doesn't explode on you. Everything we tried was good and well flavored--there wasn't one bad dish. My only slightly negative comment is that the shrimp dumplings and the pea sprouts shrimp dumplings were a bit on the doughy side. The flavors were spot on, but the dough could have been thinner. Service was quick and quite pleasant. Definitely worth a re-visit when I'm in town again!

Picked up take out from here for a little family get together. It's been a while since we have been here as we ate it a lot during the pandemic. Everything tasted the same, though the portion sizes have gone down significantly. We got our usual favorites of black pepper pork chops, eggplant and pork, and Chinese broccoli along with trying out the sesame chicken and beef lo mein. The pork chops were very black peppery, which I loved though the breading was a little thick, the eggplant and pork was great as usual, just wished there was more of it (the container was half full - portion size was significantly less than the others), and the Chinese broccoli was cooked to perfection. The sesame chicken was decent, I liked that the sauce was packed in another container, and the breading was lighter. The beef lo mein was pretty crave worthy, just full of sodium and oily goodness, just wished there was more vegetables and beef. The whole meal was definitely one for the cheat day books!

0 stars! Not a person who leaves a review but for the sake of others, Do not come here unless you wish to have the worst food poisoning of your life. My family tried this place Friday, November 22. The service was bitter and rushed. They seemed bothered we were even there. The high chair was absolutely disgusting so that should have been a red flag to leave. The restaurant just looked very dirty and unkept. As far as food, we ordered some mysterious meat (pork with unwanted shrimp) filled wonton and dumplings that had an off smell and that's what has sent us all to a traumatic episode of vomiting. Recently just read their health violations below of not removing dead animals. If you enjoy being healthy and good food, you are better off somewhere else! Never again will I go here or recommend this awful place.

First visit here as it's close to the SLC airport, convenient location. We ordered dim sum and menu items, specifically: bok choy with oyster sauce, BBQ pork buns, pork dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and kung pao chicken. The service was friendly, and we didn't have to wait too long to receive our food. Dim sum was tasty and satisfying. The menu items we were really pleasantly surprised with! Kung Pao chicken was probably one of the best I've had (and I don't order this dish very often). The bok choy was cooked perfectly, crispy on the stalk part, and had a light oyster sauce on it. The ambiance and decor can be updated and needs a bit of improvement. Other than that, it was a great first visit.

The only place I know to get dim sum in SLC, and pretty good options, though the eggplant goes fast so get a lot before it's gone! The weekends are hopping so go early to get a spot before the line is bad. I enjoyed everything I had but wanted more eggplant! Also I didn't like the egg tarts as much as I did as a kid but the chicken's feet were still yummy! To be fair I'm not a dim sum connoisseur but I did eat it weekly for many years of my childhood life in the 626, so I think it's fair to say it holds up as good dim sum!

I was finally able to come to New Golden Dragon over the weekend for Dim Sum! They did not disappoint! We had a pretty large group, so we decided to get there fairly early. We arrived at 10:15 and saw that they were actually seating people already. They don't officially open until 10:30 so food wasn't out until then but it was nice that we could sit and receive tea while waiting for the rest of our group. I would describe this dim sum as really good takes on traditional dim sum. There wasn't much experimentation or items that were super out of the ordinary. That's great if you're just looking for classic items. I agree with other reviewers that their chive dumplings were amazing, and other people at our table agreed that they were stand outs on the table. While I've had better turnip cakes at other places, especially places where they fry it to order, I enjoyed the turnip cake and can definitely say that I have had way worse turnip cake so I thought it was good too! Of course sometimes I think I would eat turnip cake out of a shoe and I would still think it's good! It might have been because we showed up early and they hadn't brought the more experimental items out yet but I just didn't see a ton of experimentation with the dishes that you might see at other dim sum restaurants. This means that if you have food allergies or dietary restrictions it could be hard. My husband was a vegetarian for years and often there are some dumplings, tofu, or sticky rice options that are prepared vegetarian. I didn't see anything like that when we were there. So if you have dietary restrictions, you might want to call ahead and ask what they have to offer. Of course, if you have a dairy allergy, you rarely need to worry at Chinese restaurants. A lot of Chinese people are lactose intolerant and real dairy rarely makes its way into the dishes. You can't argue with the prices here. Definitely at some of the more established dim sum houses where they offer more exotic dishes or variety, that will be reflected in the price. So, what's nice about them focusing on a smaller amount of dishes means that you can come here and not be shocked by a huge bill at the end of the day. We had a group of 8. Everyone ate to their heart's content, and there were plenty of things that we were able to try and plenty of things that we just didn't have room in our stomachs to try and we spent just shy of $200 (including tip) so that worked out to about $25/person. When was the last time you went out for brunch and spent $25? I definitely had a great time, I would definitely come back! As other people have mentioned, dim sum is always better in a group where you can try more dishes. If you don't have any dietary restrictions, you will have a great time. If you're looking for a classic dim sum experience, this is the spot! This place definitely fills up and the parking lot turns into a zoo in the afternoon. I still think if I had a large group, I would try to show up early but I might go with a smaller group later in the day to try it again and see if there are different items offered later. Their dining room is huge so they really can seat a lot more than what fits in the parking lot.

Came here for dim sum today (Friday). The items available were minimal but they had the basics. The dim sum tasted good but they were either room temp or barely warm which was very disappointing.

Great dim sum especially on the weekends the pork steam buns are great and the sumi is really good too. Great variety

3/25/2025. The New Golden Dragon serves the WORST food I have ever tasted, bar none! I have been on this earth for 80 years and have the money to frequent some very nice restaurants. I go out to eat often and love all kinds of food. This restaurant appears really run down but I've had good food in shabby restaurants before. It happens rarely but it's true. The reason I ended up here is a friend recommended this place. I think it must have been good in the past. My guess is he hasn't been there in quite awhile. Perhaps the management has changed recently. Absolutely nothing they serve is fresh. I tasted the cashew chicken and it was actually nasty. I couldn't eat even one full bite. Chocked down a little ham fried rice because I smothered it in sweat and sour sauce. The sauce was okay. The fried rice, vegetables and ham looked and tasted like they had been in the pan for at least 2 or 3 weeks. It appears the ham fried rice is served as a side with almost every meal so why is it so old? Potsticker was hard and tasteless. My one shrimp was barely okay if eaten with the sweat and sour sauce. I ate half of it. The reason I ate anything at all is I was very hungry. Just ate enough to keep my body going 'till I got home. This meal for two cost $40. Don't go here! You will definitely be very disappointed. I feel taken advantage of and hope they close soon so no one else is scammed into paying for food they truly can not eat.

I love Dim Sum with my whole heart. I have tried more than a handful of dim sum places in the valley. Some have a better selection but New Golden Dragon beats them all on flavor and quality. My favorite item are the stuffed mushrooms. They are filled with ground shrimp and covered in a delectable sauce. Other items that are a must try are the delicious soup dumplings called Shanghai Dumplings on the menu. Their Pork Shumai (Pork dumplings) are the best for flavor and texture that I have tried in the valley. Be sure to try the Fried Shrimp dumplings as well, the white sauce they come with is delightful and the wrap is flaky and crisp, not your usual dumpling wrapper. Lastly, I am not a huge fan of pork buns but my friends are and they commented that these are their favorite in the valley as well. The dough is perfectly fluffy and the bun is well filled. The filling, they commented, is also well flavored. Forgive us that the pictures only contain on dumpling or so. It was hard to slow down enough to take pictures. Years ago I came here with a friend from China and he loved the other menu items and commented that their authentic menu was very good. I recall enjoying everything I tasted but can't comment on the items individually as it has been awhile.

The food, service, and overall experience here is amazing. I highly recommend. I've been coming here multiple times a week sometimes back to back days for 5 years. The people here are the best, and when you accompany that with the food, it is truly the best experience. Ambience is amazing. Everything is 10/10. Highly recommend.

Peking duck was pretty good! Solid option for dim sum. Not too many options in Salt Lake - but always solid good food
