Hidden Gem for Authentic Hong Kong-Style Chinese Food! We randomly walked into New Hong Kong Restaurant after a movie at the Esplanade Theater, craving some good Chinese food—and wow, what a great surprise! The orange chicken was perfectly crispy and flavorful, the chow mein was packed with fresh veggies and noodles cooked just right, and the sweet-and-sour soup & egg rolls were the best I’ve had in a while. Everything was hot, fresh, and full of flavor, and the prices were extremely reasonable—such a great deal for the quality and portion size. The service was truly five-star—thank you Michelle for the amazing hospitality and the thoughtful gift—we will forever remember it. You made the experience even more special. It's a small, cozy spot with a relaxed vibe, but don’t let that fool you—the food is top-notch. We’ll definitely be coming back and recommending you and the restaurant to our friends and family. If you’re in the Biltmore area and craving delicious, authentic Chinese cuisine, don’t miss New Hong Kong!

Food was fresh and delicious. I got the lunch special and it was great price for the amount of food received. The egg drop soup was so good. The orange chicken was fresh and crispy and the egg rolls were awesome. I will definitely be back.

Google
Nice Place Inside. The Staff Was Helpful. My Order Was Roast Duck. It Was Dry And Tough...The Duck Legs Seem To Be From Two Different Ducks... The Bones Tell Me The Truth. I Only Waited 15 Minutes. So It Doesn't Dry That Way So Fast. It Came With White Rice That Was Under Cooked Hard To Eat .I Ordered Extra Rice Both Were Bad! 😔

Google

Cause u know what they say u eat with ur eyes 👀 and our servers were very nice and attentive that’s very important to my so I’m happy all around. So if ur wondering if this place is good it is.

Google
New Hong Kong Restaurant offered a satisfying and authentic Chinese dining experience. The portions were generous, and every dish from the sweet and sour chicken to the beef with broccoli was flavorful and freshly made. The staff was friendly and efficient. A great spot for casual, delicious comfort food. Will return!

Google
I was very surprised. I have been meaning to come here for about a year now but just had not. I visited today and I wish I had come sooner. The food was very good and surprisingly low prices. The portions were a good size and made the price even better. I could see them charging at least 5 dollars more per each item and people would happily pay. Check it out for yourself. Recommend for sure.

Google
Good food, good prices, tbh the springs rolls and egg rolls were top notch. The chicken tastes real, not like frozen process. You can tell by the way, the breading and the chicken is when you bite into it. Like if it was made from scratch.

Google
First off tons of parking. Took the fam around 5pm for dinner and completely empty. Which is usually a bad sign for me. The host was nice and checked on us frequently. ORDERED SOME FRIED POT STICKERS AND crab puffs both tasted good. As for dinner it was ok. I like my lo mein with a bit thicker noodles and more meat. Orange chicken was a little dry and duck chewy the fried rice was a bummer didn't look or taste like what I'm used to eating and egg drop soup was supper thick. 3 combo meals 1 chicken teriyaki, kids orange less chicken, duck, 2 apps, 2 beers and drinks came out to $140 without tip. Was surprised because I can get all this at China chili for about 100 but food was decent but don't think I'll come back

Yelp
Tried it for nostalgia... won't be back. We decided to give this neighborhood spot a try, mainly out of curiosity. It's been around since I was a kid, and I hadn't been back since, but we'd heard it was under new management and figured it was worth a shot. The entrance gave us hope--it still had the classic door frame I remembered. But once inside, the vibe changed. The room was stark white with black trim, a few paper decorations, and only one other couple dining. We debated leaving but decided to stay. We ordered a Thai tea and water. The servers were noticeably sweaty--we assumed maybe they had just come in from outside, but quickly realized the restaurant itself was just uncomfortably warm. We went with the Po Po Platter--a childhood favorite and a good sampler of everything. Unfortunately, it was mostly a letdown. Spring rolls were just okay (we had to ask for sweet and sour sauce). Crab puffs were oddly sweet. Wontons were dry. The pork rib was super tough. Fried shrimp? Meh. The "burning pork on a stick" was the worst--smoky in a bad way. The flame wouldn't turn off and filled the restaurant with smoke. People started coughing, and my husband had to bring the dish up to the server to stop it. Not sure if there are smoke detectors in the building. We also shared an orange chicken plate with chow mein and ordered General Tso's chicken. Orange chicken was fine. Chow mein was greasy and flavorless. General Tso's was dull, the onions were honestly the best part. We were in and out in 30 minutes and barely ate a quarter of what we ordered. Sadly, this spot didn't live up to the nostalgia or the newer reviews.

Yelp
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and friendly hellos. We were seated right away. The restaurant is clean, spacious, and comfortable. There's plenty of room to walk around without bumping elbows or squeezing past chairs. Tall-backed booths add a nice touch of privacy--no awkward kid peeking or overhearing every word from the next table. TVs on the walls and light background music created a relaxed vibe. We ordered the Beef and Snow Pea combination plate--more than enough for two people to share. It came with a bowl of egg drop soup, served piping hot with crispy fried wonton strips. Even with 100° heat outside, that soup hit the comfort spot. The entrée arrived looking delicious: tender, flavorful beef with perfectly crisp snow peas, plus a spring roll, soft noodles, fried rice, and a crab puff wonton on the side. A full plate of food for a really reasonable price. Service was attentive, kind, and made us feel welcome the entire time. Definitely a spot worth revisiting!

Yelp
The chow fun was a 12/10, one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life! The hot and sour soup was very good but not quite great. I liked that it came with a good amount of crispy chips. I did pick up but the people I interacted with on the phone and in person were pleasant. It's a casual spot - I'd be more inclined for take out than dine in. I will certainly order from here again!

Yelp
I have tried this restaurant twice, once for take out and once as dine in. Take out was delicious, had a variety of fried rice, entrees (orange chicken and kung pao chicken) and lo mein. It was bland, but filling and hit the spot. When I dined in, I ended up having the vegetable lo mein and spring rolls. I requested increased spice this time, but was still disappointed. They had several sauces available though to add flavor as you please. Service was quick however, they forgot some of the entrees so we had to remind them a few times. It was crowded on a weekday evening! Be prepared to wait, they are definitely popular. Even our takeout took some time. I would give this a 4/5 stars because the food was decent, but spice was lacking and service required a few reminders.

Yelp
So good! Comparing to similar establishments this is top tier! Food was piping hot and fresh and delicious. We had a group of 6 and tried different things. Orange beef, salt and pepper wings, potstickers, combo fried rice, combo chow fun, orange chicken and beef & broccoli. Everything was good and some of those dishes came with soup which was also really good. The potstickers really stood out. We will be back to try more items. Service was also great very friendly and attentive on a sunday afternoon.
google avatar

Payton T.

Yelp
Ordered Mongolian beef without white onions and I was given more white onion than beef. The Mongolian beef was verrrrrrrry salty. I saw some reviews that stated it was sweet but mine wasn't sweet at all. I did enjoy the potstickers and used the sauce to add some flavor to my Mongolian beef.

Yelp
Michelle is fantastic!! We've been coming to new Hong Kong for years. Not only because the food is always fresh and hot, a good value, and tasty, but also because the service is impeccable. If we want to have an excellent dining experience with perfect service we go to new Hong Kong. We feel like family when we walk in.

Yelp
Very friendly and polite staffs I really enjoyed the food it was very delicious I just feel they could mix the menu up just a little bit more because I ate there almost weekly still great though
google avatar

Celeste S.

Yelp
I paid over $100 for a takeout meal that included seven dishes. One was a rice dish and another was a noodle dish. The Mongolian beef was awfully salty and that's what you see in the picture - the leftover which is going into the garbage. Most of the pieces of duck barely had any meat and it was mostly skin. You see the leftover in the picture. The garlic chicken and mixed vegetables are pretty much the same dish and you could almost call them soup because they were swimming in sauce! When I opened the containers, I thought they were the same dish but, then noticed a few pieces of chicken in one container. The only thing worth mentioning is the Singapore noodles, which was pretty decent. Can't say that I liked the huge chunks of chewy beef in the House fried rice. A proper fried rice will have small pieces of meat or shrimp along with small pieces of vegetables. The website states that they have over 20 years of experience, but I don't think they meant experience in Chinese cooking. It's saddens me that this food is a far cry from what the original owners offered. Our first visit to eat in the restaurant after the new owners took over was approximately six months ago, and the food seemed OK so we thought we'd give it another shot. After trying additional offerings on the menu today, we will not be going back.

Yelp
Still waiting for a "Cha Chaan Teng" here in Phoenix. I heard one closed in Tempe. This curry beef is good. Would like Chinese Beef Curry with Beef Tendons.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of New Hong Kong, The food and service are great, if I list everything I like on the menu; it would be a novel. The service is great; in fact some person did a dine & dash, so I paid for the meal; because these people work very hard and we should support small businesses. Only thing I would like to see as an 3rd generation Asian American is the Cantonese Chow Mein like Sing High. Otherwise, I will go to New Hong Kong to dine in and/or take out.

Yelp
Tried 3 times to place an order and they put me on hold for over 10 minutes and never come back to the phone. Just wanted some fried rice, but apparently they don't want to serve me.

Yelp
I have not been here in many years, and I feel I have not missed out on anything other than the ownership has changed and not for the better. Met a friend for lunch, the place was empty. Yet it still took too long for us to get service. Food ...... Ice tea yuck, had a funky taste not drinking that. Hot and Sour soup was gelatinous and too sour bluck! The spring roll? It was tiny, crispy on the outside and I have no clue wat was on the inside, it was mushy and white. Hard pass on that item. The wonton was small overcooked and another interior mystery. Let that one go too. The rice was fried with a miniscule amount of egg and no flavor until I added some soy sauce. The Mongolian beef was on the sweet side, the onion was good the pepper was burnt. Service.... It was very slow, there were only 3 other tables 2 person occupied, saw 3 small to go orders leave during the hour we were there. Also unprofessional, one of the employees had a small child behind the counter pushing him back and forth in a large stroller. This was after a man appeared from the kitchen carrying the child. Ambiance.... cold, dirty this place needs a good cleaning and fresh paint. Just not enjoyable. The best part of my lunch was the person I had to endure this meal with. I wont be back and I cannot recommend that anyone else subject their taste buds to this agony, just yuck.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant for the first time in five years. The food is actually very good compared to other Chinese restaurants in central Phoenix. They have a nice lunch menu, and I would highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Ruth B.

Yelp
I have been coming here with my family recently. I recommend them because they have a pretty good dinner combination deal. It is priced very fairly as it comes with the main dish, noodles, crab Rangoon, spring roll and egg drop soup. They also serve Thai tea! Which is my favorite. Service could be better but they still do a good job. The environment of the restaurant is cute and date friendly.
google avatar

Jacob D.

Yelp
There are a sleu of Chinese restaurants in the central Phoenix area of which the top two were my friend's choice but one was take out only and the other was closed due to the holiday. My friend had heard that this place was good so we decided to give it a try. Lots of lunch specials & from the description it appears that you are getting quite a bit of food for the money but the portion sizes are small. Food is very tasty though. Skip the beer and wine as it is very pricey. Service was very good as well.
google avatar

Yelp
I can't believe I've missed this gem for so many years! My friend and I went for lunch and it was a great experience. The price was super reasonable & the dishes very good. I had the dinner kung pao with steamed rice and even though it was $2 more than the lunch special it was well worth with it! My friend had a lunch special and was very impressed with the quality of her dish. The waitress was very nice & attentive. Splitting the check was no big. Dining room was very clean, quiet & lots of natural light. We'll be back for sure!

Ree S.

Yelp
We had pork eggrolls sizzling rice soup vegetable egg foo young. All very good. I would recommend

Christy J.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Fresh and spicy! What a great deal the lunch combination is! Fast delivery too.

Yelp
I used to LOVE this restaurant and its food. It was always quick, hot and great tasting. However, they recently closed for a time around Thanksgiving. I just received my 1st order and the Crab Puffs were way below sub-par, compared to before. All have barely any filling and are all dough. They are usually piping hot, and only lukewarm this time. Driver got food here very reasonable quickly. Noodles were tasty but I requested chop sticks and no MSG. No chop sticks were included, so I'm assuming I got MSG too. Big disappointment to my typical experience here. I've religiously ordered this same order ever so often. Not sure I'll be ordering again.

Yelp
Sitting here across the street from The Rebel Lounge running Kailee Moore's Girl Next Door for the 42nd time this week. Doors open in 45 minutes and I probably left the hotel too early. Food was good, decorations are tight. Phoenix, AZ baby, check out New Hong Kong.

Yelp
So if you are looking for a Chinese food place, give this place a try! We ordered thru Ubereats, so can't really comment on the location or service but the food... and they packaged it perfectly so there's that! I loved the Orange Chicken! So much flavor. I am still in search for the perfect crispy duck (not my favorite here), but the chow mein was excellent! Another favorite was Kung pao chicken. Definitely will order from here again!

Barbara L.

Yelp
A new go to for me. Always really great food. Consistent and extremely reasonably priced. Service is great!
google avatar

Norma G.

Yelp
I gave it for stars not for the food but the staff. Not friendly at all. No eye contact. God for bid you ask for an extra napkin! Why I come back, the food is truly delicious! This place has been around for years!

Chris H.

Yelp
Decent American-style Chinese food. Lots of options. Quick delivery. Kind of expensive, but what isn't these days.
google avatar

Brandon G.

Yelp
Placed a very large order for Christmas eve and ehy had the food ready in under 30 minutes! Super fast, very good food, and the prices are tough to beat. Really enjoyed their sweet and sour and lemon chicken, the meat was nnice and crunchy and the suaces were tangy and delicious. Will definitely return!

David G.

Yelp
We were visiting from California and were looking for a Chinese restaurant. We found New Hong Kong online and decided to try it. The dining area is quiet and has room for large parties. The servers were very attentive and helpful. Finally the food was AMAZING. We had Lo Mein Noodles both with veggies and without. We had the beef broccoli which was cooked to perfection and flavorful. Finally we had the Orange Chicken and it was the best I have ever had. We came back the next two days. You won't be disappointed
google avatar

Misty T.

Yelp
Best orange chicken I have ever had! The service was great. Not crowded at all. It was a good place to sit down and eat.
google avatar

Rafael R.

Yelp
Well I'm torn because take out can sometimes be a hit or miss so I try not to be to harsh. I ordered vegetable Chop Suey, Beef Lo Mein, and the BBQ ribs. The veggies were soggy but the sauce was ok. Noodles were over cooked. Although I knew that the ribs only came with 4 pieces but one was the size of a pinky and burnt. Perhaps the menu has to many items so it's difficult to master so many. I may try to dine in next time but definitely not delivery or take out. Much better places to order from in the area.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
This is a review for the food only as we ordered delivery through Uber Eats. The ordering process went smoothly but the menu for delivery is not exactly the same as the restaurant menu. The food was hot when it arrived, earlier than promised by about 15 minutes. The house chow mein was excellent. The po po stickers were also very good and had quite a broad selection of flavors. The crispy duck was crispy and ducky! Another very tasty dish although a couple of the duck pieces were a little too crispy and a couple were quite bony. The portion was very generous. The Kung pao two was a good complement to the other dishes. The orange chicken was the best flavored dish. You get to add the orange sauce after the food is delivered so the chicken remains just right, not soggy. Finally we ordered the shrimp in lobster sauce. The shrimp were great. I wasn't in love with the sauce but only because it wasn't very spicy. They also provide extra condiments like mustard, soy sauce and honey. You will not be disappointed if you order food from this restaurant.

Yelp
The meal was absolutely delicious - American Chiense at its best. This was my first visit to New Hong Kong Chiense Restaurant, but it won't be my last. As soon as we entered we were quickly seated, given menu's and drink orders were taken. The menu was interesting and varied. We made our entrée selection and ordered. We decided on the Chicken Chop Suey, Mongolian Beef, steamed rice, egg roll, and egg drop soup. The food arrived a quickly and it was delicious. The chicken chop suey/Mongolian Beef was moist, flavorful and not drowned in sauce like you typically would find in some restaurants, and the egg drop soup was some of the best I have had. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff was friendly and helpful, the prices were wallet friendly, and the food delicious. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Norm R.

Yelp
Once in a while I get a craving for old-school American Chinese cuisine and this restaurant fits the bill. I ordered the quintessential AC dish: chop suey, with added shrimp; it came with rice, crispy egg roll and a cup of egg drop soup. These were good, not spectacular, but definitely satisfying. I would have liked the chop suey even better if they had used less sugar as a seasoning ingredient for the dish. It seems that one of the things that "Americanize" Chinese-inspired dishes in the use of more sugar than would be the case for authentic Chinese cuisine, and this restaurant seems to go that route. Service is fast and efficient and the food is inexpensive - a boon for those on a budget.
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible No flavor Orange chicken sauce was watered and out of a can Even the fortune comes were stale Don't waste your time or money
google avatar

Maurice K.

Yelp
Only get a 1-star because I'm required to leave a star. I get that it's Christmas, but it seems as if you never prepared to be busy. I don't understand when restaurants aren't prepared. I almost felt like grabbing my chef coat and helping. Was told 20 mins for a takeout fried rice...it took almost an hour. This place is and will never get a dollar out of my hard earned money ever again...especially with inflated prices...but shittier service.

Daniel M.

Yelp
I came in for Lunch and was absolutely amazed by how great the food was! The Hot & Sour Soup had the right amount of spice and flavor! My main dish was excellent too! I highly recommend this restaurant!
google avatar

Kaitlyn W.

Yelp
we ordered takeout! the combo plate is a really good deal, i like getting a bit of all the things but i was disappointed that they did not include the egg roll and rangoon like promised in menu. the food was good!
google avatar

Cheryl K.

Yelp
A cool Chinese food restaurant in Phoenix. Usually good. 1 time it wasn't. Better than most other Chinese that I have had in Phoenix.
google avatar

Marie P.

Yelp
Just what I was looking for! Great Orange Chicken & Kung Pao for the man. Egg rolls delish. Decent sized servings . Will return for my OC fix

Troy G.

Yelp
If you want good, authentic tasting Chineese food, New Hong Kong is a great choice. I had the King Pao Dinner Combo. The Sour soup was amazing and so was the crab puff. I loved the lo-mein..it had the perfect flavor to compliment the King Pao, which was also exceptional. We also ordered the fried wontons. HUGE chunk.of.pork.in each one. The final dish was orange chicken. The sauce was spot on. Plenty of orange flavor without being too sweet. The Atmosphere wasz interesting and our server was super helpful and friendly....hope to have her again. If you are looking for really good chineese...come here. You will be delighted.

Mark B.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Very good quality and very consistent! Staff is very friendly! Highly recommend this place!

Jennifer N.

Yelp
I picked up to go food and the flavor profile was not great. Tried potstickers (didn't care for dipping sauce) and egg flower soup (fried noodles were fried chow mien noodles)
google avatar

Felix O.

Yelp
I thought I'd give it a try since I used to go here when I was young but some things change for the worst!
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Deceptive billing - I ordered takeout and, when I got my credit card bill, they had increased my tip by $4.00 without my permission. Very deceptive, if not illegal. DO NOT SUPPORT PLACES THAT ARE THIS UNETHICAL.
google avatar

Katrina H.

Yelp
Idk if it's the change in management but the orange chicken I was excited about from the photo is not what we were served. Sub-par.
google avatar

Walt M.

Yelp
The food was very good but the service was sub-par. Might have been Christmas Day? I ordered online at 3:53 pm for a 4:30 pickup, arrived at 4:35 and food was nit ready, was going to be another 20 minutes. Yuh have to walk in and go up to the register thru the dining area. Numerous people were waiting to be seated. It was chaotic. I'd give it another try when it's not as busy.
google avatar

Khadijah R.

Yelp
The food was good but they gave me the wrong thing, I asked for Hunan shrimp and they gave me chicken I was very disappointed not to see shrimp in there
google avatar

Vivian S.

Yelp
Have been looking for a good Chinese food place around this area and finally found it! Both dinner combos are had lots of flavor and were a great portion size. Service was on top of it and always made sure our drinks were filled/ drinks we had everything we needed.
google avatar

Elizabeth O.

Yelp
Our first time here and won't be our last! The service was great! The food was delicious. Got seated right away, fresh delicious food. The Kung pao might be one of my fav ever.

Natasha F.

Yelp
The food is absolutely amazing. . There pork egg rolls are the best. Would recommend this place to all my friends.
