You should manage your expectation when you go here. The people seem rude with attitude, but they are really nice people. They won’t manage the line, so manage it yourself. This is NYC so expect everyone to try to cut ahead of you. The sit down area is very basic. The food is always good. I really like this place. Strongly recommend the wings.

This roast pork and char siu shop is considered a long-established brand in Chinatown. Affordable Cantonese cuisine Three-piece char siu is my favorite. It's fine to eat it occasionally, but it gets a bit greasy if you eat too much.

To be real honest this meal will cost like $16 in a different location...BUT HERE ITS ONLY $7 and if you want to eat inside its $8....let me tell you the taste of the meat was delicious crispy outside and tender in the middle..the sauce goes perfect and the white rice thank God it's not plain it has some flavor....definitely will be back with my daughter..lol

honestly much better spots in nyc chinatown for roast meat like big wong - paid $18 for very small portions that were ice cold and not crispy at all. not to mention the trash was just a trash bag on the floor. service was fine, no complaints.

Like many, used to be a fan of Wah Fung No 1 before it turned viral. Today we passed by it and saw the line was 23 people strong. So we immediately recalled seeing a Tik Tok post saying the BBQ a few doors has the same thing but without the line. We decided to give it a shot. First, I'm not amused by the inconsistency of the restaurant name. The signage on the awning says "New Kim Tuong", the Chinese says "Jin Shang", and the menu says "Kien Tuong". I had to look up Google and Yelp to see what it is referred to by the populace. Not cool. Not sure if this is a full service restaurant as there are a few small tables inside, with menus, but most people ordered to go. We ordered the first item on the cover of their take-out menu, 1 BBQ meat over rice. We picked pork. $7 vs $8 at Wah Fung. I would say the portion is slightly less. The pork wasn't as moist or tasty. So if you bail out of Wah Fung, you can get a quick substitute here. But personally, if time permit, I'd go to Hey Hey Roasted on Mott Street instead.

Honest review. I’ve always wanted to go to the place that’s a couple of feet from this location where the big line is. But I don’t feel like waiting in a long line. So I found this place on tik tok where they said it was a good alternative instead of being in line. I agree. I think it’s delicious food and quick service. Definitely worth coming for.I ordered the 3 meats over rice. Duck, pork, and chicken. The chicken was my least favorite not because of the taste but because it was already a bit cold, I’m assuming because not many people order it? In second came the duck I was confused on how to eat it because it had bone so I ate it and it was an actually pretty good. The pork though was very flavorful and tasty, definitely the best out of the three in my opinion.

I was on my way to Wah Fung but walked by this place first. I wanted to try a new local business so I got carryout. This place is cash only. I got: - Roast duck on white rice ($7): it came with some bean sprouts. It was okay. It wasn't too dry but I wish there was a sauce or something like how Wah Fung does it. Honestly Wah Fung is still my favorite roast pork with white rice that I have found in Chinatown. It's worth the long wait!! - number 38: Bo kho ($8): Um this isn't the Bo kho (beef stew) dish that I was envisioning. I've had better beef noodle soup/beef stews. There was not that much flavor. There was a good amount of beer though! As affordable as this place is, I sadly don't know if I will be revisiting.

Good bbq for a good price and absolutely no wait unlike the large line for the spot next door. The portions were generous and flavors were spot on. The roast pork was tender and the sauce was sweet and salty. I really liked the chicken and I thought it was actually better than the pork. The scallion ginger sauce was great and I should have asked for more. My only complaint was that there were more bones than meat for chicken. Highly recommend supporting this restaurant, especially if you don't want to wait or don't have the time.

After many years, this spot is till my family's go-to for roast meats. We literally will not buy meats from anywhere else because they just compare to the quality of the meats we get from here! I feel like this place is a bit under the radar (compared to their popular neighbor) and more of a place that the locals know of. During CNY, before lunch time rolls around, people have already bought out their stock of roast meats! Their roast pork and chicken wings are my favorite things to order but recently we've been trying out their noodle dishes. I have to say, they make a pretty good soy sauce chow mien!

Metal foreign object was in my food and not discovered until I chewed on it. Showed it to the guy who runs the place. He just said "OK", walked away and went back to what he was doing behind the counter. The situation was otherwise ignored. BTW , I was , until this happened , a regular customer. Totally unacceptable.

Extremely happy to find this low-key spot for chinese BBQ meats. For context, Big Wong and Great NY Noodletown are my go-to spots for chinese BBQ growing up. I got the 2 meats over rice for $8.50. I asked for BBQ pork (Specifically the fatty part... fay cha in canto) and roasted pork (sew yuk in canto). - BBQ pork was tender and I actually got the fatty parts that I asked for. - Roasted pork was good. What blew my mind was how CRISPY the skin was til the last bite. IMO, the best i've had. Shout out to the butcher who didn't finesse this ABC (American-born chinese) with meatless / low quality parts of meat.

This place is absolutely incredible. In my opinion, if you come in the morning, they have better roast pork than wah fung. This pork is just SO tender and delicious! And they have a much bigger menu. The duck is also incredible. I really love their roast duck and pork soup, especially in this weather. Delicious! The combo plates are a little more expensive, but the quality of the food is wonderful.

I went there because the line at Wah Fung Fast Food was too long/I wanted to support another business. Firstly, when I ordered Chicken + Duck over rice, they recommended me to get the pork instead, I assume it was because the pork was fresh. They served me cold chicken + duck over rice. Legitimately cold, when I then asked for the food to be hot, it was then tossed in a microwave. When I asked them about it they told me it's the "Chinese way of eating it" as if there aren't 10 other places serving the same dish hot around the area. They grabbed my plate, Styrofoam and all. Rice, cabbage, chicken, and duck into the microwave. This was one of the worst meal I've ever had in New York and I can understand why Wah Fung next door is constantly busy. I went on their line right after, waited around 45 minutes, and got a delicious meal that was actually hot. Shame.

My usual go to spot was closed so this was backup. It's near the famous overhyped Wah Fung place. This place has seating and roast meat. Their roast meat is good enough for me, not a huge line that I have to wait on. Roast pork over rice was like $6.50. Also order tofu fish for $7. Prices are still reasonable despite inflation and Covid.

We picked up some roasted duck and smoked pork to go. Everything was juicy and savory. Cash only. Huge menu with fair pricing. They have a few tables to dine in, but I wouldn't classify it as a sit down restaurant.

I got the duck over rice- really solid the rice was well seasoned and the duck wasn't gamey at all. But man, the bones really dampened the dish for me, it def made it more difficult to enjoy. I took it to the park and am satisfied from it though!

I've been to Wah Fung a few times before, so I figured I'd try this place out instead since it had a much shorter wait time and was only a few doors down. In terms of taste, I'd say I didn't like it quite as much as Wah Fung. The price was relatively reasonable, but not quite as good of a deal as some other places I've been for a similar order. I did find a hair in my food, which I don't think was mine. Overall, it was pretty average, but I don't think I'll come back.

We stopped by for lunch and ended up getting some roast pork and chicken. The meat was good and juicy, and it was also a bigger portion size than the place up the block that all the tourists waited in a long line for. Seating is available and cash only.

The definition of Chinese fast food varies from person to person. I've had friends order pork fried rice and chicken wings with French fries with a side of duck sauce. Not close to what I had imagine, but to each their own. To me, authentic Chinese fast food is a super crispy roasted pig and soy sauce chicken with a nice golden glaze to it, don't forget the soy sauce, ginger scallion condiments and a side of veggie to complete the meal. All of this extraordinary goodness assembled within minutes is what I call food that I grew up with. And there's no better place to go than New Kim Tuong. I've tried many places but this spot never disappoints. Their prices are very affordable and the food is amazing. I highly recommend trying their food!

Old school duck, chicken, and roast pork over rice Chinese restaurant. No frills, food is delicious, and nice over the counter ppl/service. If you don't want to wait for the over the hype long line next door place called Wah Fung made famous by instagram influencers, come here.

Overall: Really great cuts of meat (roast pork, duck, roast pig, bbq chicken wings, soy sauce chicken, scallion chicken). One of my favorite meat shop/restaurants to go for dinner meats in Chinatown. Try thejr bbq chicken wings, SO YUMMY (8 wings for maybe around $10). They also have a full menu of rice platters and noodle dishes. Price: $, affordable. $10-$20, depending on if you get half or whole duck/chicken.

Meh, I think there is much better Chinese food around. First of all, the service is laughably rude. They literally roll their eyes or walk away as you're talking with them. Second, the food wasn't great: the half-duck was mainly skin and bones, and the actual meat was lukewarm. We had to ask them to warm it up. The bok choy was so oily. And the beef stew was mainly cartilage and very little actual beef. And third, the seating is so tight and uncomfortable. I'd skip and find another spot.

Best way to find a gem in the hood? Listen to your neighbor/local who lives in the area all their life. They know where the best deals are and where to get the best local food. Was told that this place has the best roast pork (chai siu) in Chinatown. Oh boy, why didn't I come here earlier? The meat was so tender and juicy and I loved that the butcher cut them into small pieces. We also tried the Singapore chow mei fun and the preserved veggies with beef over rice. They are probably a bit cheaper than other places and big portions but are a bit bland. So 5 star for the chia siu and 3 star for the other two dishes we tried. Place is small with less than 10 tables (2 or 4 persons table). Great for takeouts.

Surprisingly good! They have decent food for bargained pricing. Their Barbecue meat items are my favorite. They are still not accepting indoor dining last time I was there.

Listen, we all wanted to go to Wah Fung No 1 instead. But they're closed on Mondays, or the lines are excruciatingly long. New Kim Tuong is a pretty good replacement. They have all your Chinese BBQ needs (and for some reason, a Vietnamese menu as well). Their menu lists three meats over rice for $5, but I think they've actually changed that to 2 meats for that price. Good roast pork, but portion sizes are better next door.

I have been a customer for years. But lately, they seem to change their practice. They used to be quite honest with good food quality. But lately, I noticed they cheated on the prices, they charged customers $9.00 when the price was $8.6 as indicated by the scale. When people buy roast pig, they secretly throw in a large piece of side (less desirable part) meat to increase the weight. I have seen them argue with customers who rejected the unwanted portion included in their orders. It is very possible that there is a new owner for this place.

Very upsetting. I paid $8.50 for the wet beef chow fun which is beef chow fun with gravy. No beef and no vegetables to be found. Will not return.

The food is craaaazy cheap!! And tastes SO good. If you're looking for an affordable lunch or dinner, this place will definitely fill you up with hot Cantonese food at an insanely small cost!! A typical rice dish is no more than 4.50$, and a huge plate of crispy pan fried noodles is 6.50$ The portions are huge for the price! So worth it! Though, like other reviewers have said, they do ask for more tip if they think you haven't given enough. Just don't be surprised if you're about to leave and the waiter says "This is not enough." He does give off a rude/entitled vibe, but for food this cheap, adding a dollar or two more for tip totals to a price that is still a crazy amazing deal for the food!

Wednesday, September 22, 2021 mid afternoon. I was walking by and saw the glistening roast meats hanging in the window. The roast pork had juice dripping off of it. I went in and asked for them to cut me a box of roast pork and fill the box. The sales lady shows me 3 size boxes and I went with the largest one. When I got home the roast pork was still warm and tender and needed no extra seasoning or sauce. I will definitely be back to try their other offerings.

According to my Chinese coworker, he said this is one of the older restaurants in chinatown. I came here with a friend because I just love roast pig. Roast pig is the crispy kind, not the red stuff slathered in sauce. Not much to be said about this place, other than it's no frills Chinatown. Rice, meat, what more do you want? The food here is pretty cheap and tasty. When I was done, I ordered the roast pig to go, and I think it was $8 a lb or something like that.

Delicious, clean place with wonderful, kind service! Had fish ball noodle soup here. Couldn't figure out the difference between 'fish ball' and 'fish cake' besides the obvious- but she had both put in so I could try! . Will definitely be back for the other tasty-looking items on the menu.

When I lived near Chinatown, I used to come here all the time to buy their roast pork. When you ask for half fat half lean, they really will give you a good delicious chunk that melts in your mouth. The price is very reasonable, typical of Chinese restaurants in that area, if not maybe a little cheaper. The roast pork over rice is really good. I also had the wonton noodle soup, which was good too. The wontons were average, nothing special. The noodles however were cooked to perfection. Even though most restaurants use the same type of noodles, this was cooked the best in Chinatown, al dente. To tourists and foreigners, this place may seen very intimidating. It's a very small place, and does not seat many people. Also, the main concern is that the population of customers who come in are generally older men. However during lunch hour, there is more of a diverse population such as women, and children. I came in right after rush hour lunch and as a female young adult, I got many looks from everyone when I opened the door. So this may throw some of you off who are uncomfortable with stares. But when you've settled down, you won't receive as many stares anymore. I will come back here again if I'm ever in Chinatown.

Just like how mom makes it! My boyfriend told me about this $4 Duck Noodle Soup, at first I am just amazed at any dish under $10 in NYC! Then I thought it was either not good or very tiny BUT it was AMAZING! Great amount of duck and soup/noodle for $4 heck I would totally pay $10 for this!

The Won Ton Soup was very good; my dish, fried noodles with shrimp, was okay but not remarkable and the Chinese mushrooms tasted a bit funky. What really bothered me was the lack of interest from the staff towards us. Maybe it was because we were non-Chinese in a Chinatown restaurant, but that's still not okay. The restaurant itself already looks a bit old but has a nice Chinatown appeal. I would not necessarily come back but would also not fight if somebody suggests eating there.

Okay, I am cheap. I love dives and this place is a dive. I admit it. From the 1970's when I could eat Roast Duck Lo Mien at the Mayflower at lunch for about $2.50 on Mott Street to the Curry Mahal on Second Avenue where a vegetable vindaloo for dinner was not much more, I have looked for the best deals in town. But on the other hand, my cheapness has made me very selective when I choose "hole in the wall" restaurants. And this one I love! When you walk in Harry or Mr. Wong will show you to a table or point your way there. Mr. Wong will talk non stop and Harry will only talk if he knows you! If you are a regular or if Harry is your waiter, you will be given a bowl of a salty but tasty broth and tea as well as a menu which is basically Cantonese dishes with Vietnamese names. There is also a steam table which is frequented by local workers who always seem to be in a rush to pick up and go. The food selection is pretty standard for a "pigs and ducks hanging in the window" restaurant but what is great is that they will make anything you ask for (well maybe not Chicken Francese...but you know what I mean :-) And their food, although inexpensive is quite well made (similar in quality to the more well known Big Wing Wong on Mott Street). I usually order bitter melon and eggplant over rice from the menu but their steam table (3 dishes and rice for $3.50 has good sweet & sour pork and ma po tofu). During the week the restaurant is usually not too busy but on weekends it is hit and miss as more and more people discover this great restaurant thanks to idiots like me who can't keep a secret! Three notes: They are a basically a lunch time restaurant though they are open until about 8 pm and the bathroom, while not a place to sit and read the New York Times, is usually passably clean - but not always! Also the barbecued meats are inconsistent - especially the duck and chicken. UPDATE DECEMBER 2012: The place has been remodeled and looks great! Everything looks new; the bathrooms and cooking areas as well as the floor, walls and tables. Also Mr. Wong has been replaced by a very nice lady and a man with limited English skills. BEST OF ALL, THE PRICES HAVE ONLY GONE UP ABOUT 25 TO 50 CENTS PER DISH! UPDATE FEBRUARY 2017: The server who was always too busy drinking beers and smoking to provide friendly service has been replaced by one who does. It makes the atmosphere much nicer!

Hot, exhausted, carrying a ton of groceries I needed to eat. I had passed Kien Tuong before but usually it was on the way to Canal Street from Grand Street. Its proximity to the Grand Street station was a blessing this time around. Stepping in, I got this wonderful old skool Chinatown restaurant feel from this place. Some tables with chairs, a booth in the back and an assortment of roasted meats hanging in the window. A long counter has several dishes you can buy with rice (2 dishes and rice for $3.50 as of the time I'm writing this review). I sat down at a small table in the back and just watched as the staff did their work. The waiter spoke Cantonese despite the menu screaming that it's a Vietnamese joint and he took my order quick. I had a soy sauce chicken with rice and some vegetables. Along with this was a cup of tea and a small bowl of soup (complete with some scallion and a chunk of pork, old skool indeed!). The chicken was wonderfully tasty, with a great soy flavor that wasn't overwhelming. The skin was slick the way it should be and the meat was moist. The portion was generous too, about a quarter of a chicken I'd say. The rice was a huge heap (easily two or three servings worth) and the side of veggies was a nice mix of broccoli and greens. Combined with the soup, it was very satisfying. The waiter didn't check on me during the meal, but to be honest I never needed him to and if I waved him over I'm sure he would've popped up quickly as only two other tables were full at the time. The biggest surprise came when I got the bill. $3.50! I thought something was wrong but there it was. Ridiculously cheap yet tasty and filling food, a magical combination. This place won me over at that moment. I'm happy to have found a new spot to get roasted meats and chill out in a comfortable atmosphere in C-town. I look forward to my next visit.

Been here a countless times and had their BBQ meats and lunch specials. Their food is ok. The boss is there pretty much all the time and I never see her smile and greet the customer, it's like she hates the world. This particular time, I ordered vegetable noodle soup. What I got was rotten vegetables! I go back and tell them about it and the boss doesn't say sorry and just hands it off to one of the workers. I tell the worker that I want another vegetable and the boss must've misinterpreted what I said. I told the worker that "I don't want the same vegetable, give me something different." The boss then responds to her worker "if she wants something else it'll cost more and she'll have to pay the difference." She heard me and she didn't bother directly responding to me but rather indirectly. The worker was pretty nice, she apologized for the vegetables and gave me a new order. I actually watched her making it so nobody spits in my food. I don't know how she runs her business with that kind of customer service. She infuriates me!!!

The food was pretty good for its price (I got the pork and preserved egg congee) but the service left such a bad taste in my mouth that I won't be coming back again. After paying for my food, which costs $3.75, the server very rudely demanded that I leave a one dollar tip. I am generally not opposed to tipping and am usually pretty generous, but his behavior was beyond rude and inappropriate. As I was finishing up my tea, another server came by and again, demanded a one dollar tip before I leave. Terrible, terrible service if you can even call it that.

This is a good spot for tasty and cheap Cantonese style food. Discovered this hole in the wall last year and have been coming here at least a couple times a month since. Sit down style restaurant and they are able to serve many dishes as per their menu. They serve good wonton or beef noodle soup. They have Chinese BBQ meats and even a section for pre-made hot food for takeout which includes a free soup which I believe is less than $5 for a takeout box.

Roast Pork Noodle Soup, Beef with bitter melon over rice and Peking style pork over rice for only $12. The prices here are cheap, and it's a flavorful, filling meal. The waiter we had was the most attentive one I've experienced in Chinatown. He was constantly checking on us and when a woman was talking on the phone and had the door open, he asked her to close it so we wouldn't feel cold. (It was a chilly evening). Will definitely return.

I used to like this place a lot but lately the lady (the boss) tried to make fun of me. I ordered string bean with fish on rice. While I got to pick up my order they said they didn't have string bean with fish but we had tofu with fish. I was like what? I said no problem I would take it. While I was about to leave the lady talked to the other woman: he did order the right one and they were laughing. Watch out the two ladies. One more thing their oil tastes old. Never go there again.

Not good. I did not like this place at all. We ordered the three meat combo: BBQ pork, roast duck, and roast pork. The BBQ pork was bland, the roast duck was okay but slightly dry, and the roast pork was absolutely disgusting. They gave us the driest pieces imaginable, and they had absolutely zero skin. WTF?! In all my years of eating roast pork, their is always crispy skin attached to it. The price was pretty cheap. I want to say under $6. But so not worth it. I'm not sure if anything else is good, but I'm not willing to go back and try again. If they can't even figure out to make the bare basics taste good, I doubt anything else is good. Also, I'm not really sure what the name of this business is. The menus have one name, and the name on the outside is something else. Whatever the name, their is no reason to order food from here. Especially with so many other options in the area. This place is pretty spacious and can accommodate a stroller and/or wheelchair (assuming it's not crazy busy inside). Cash only.

This is my go-to place for lunch if i'm in the mood for noodle soup. I highly recommend their Cheew zow noodle soup which contains a shrimp, a cow brisket ball, a fishball, some pieces of shredded chicken, and some pieces of cha siu(roasted pork) for only $4.00( used to be $3.50 but they raised it the last couple of months). They also offer three choices of food with rice for $4.00 for lunch. However, the selection usually is very limited after 1pm. So go there earlier if you want rice.

Very nice and good priced roast pork with rice. The Three Precious(roast pork, soy sauce chicken, and egg) but their chicken lacks meat. Stay with the roast pork. Love the bitter melon with chicken here too. Kind of shabby place, but otherwise offers a satisfying meal. Beware of aggressive waiters!!! We visited this place because Wah Fung down the street was closed. They seemed to serve similar food so we decided to give it a try. The service was pretty basic - they threw the menu down at your table, gave you water, took your order and gave you your food. When the server took our order, there was none of that "welcoming feeling" and no smile, not even eye contact. When I asked him a question, he mumbled something at the direction of the kitchen. Food came pretty quickly and both our dishes were on the salty side. My bowl of rice was covered with soy sauce too. At this point, I would have given them 3 stars out of 5 because it did the job. But I wouldn't bother coming back nor recommending the place. However, when we gave them the minimum tip (reason: see above) & left the place, the waiter had the audacity to come after us outside the restaurant & claimed we did not pay enough. I looked at the bill again, at first, thinking I gave him the wrong amount. Then, I realized he wanted more tip. To be specific, he wanted ONE more dollar. What!! Tipping is optional. If you want to be tipped more, you need to actually provide good service. In addition, there is a proper way to ask for more tip if you actually think it was a mistake. The proper way is not running after your customers and making demands like you're entitled to someone else's hard earned money. Either the restaurant is doing a bad job paying their employees or they need to hire better people.

This use to be a regular staple for noodles/rice/bbq and dining out for my family. This place has severely gone downhill in service, from the rude waiters and counter service to the unsanitary bbq display. They have changed all the good staff. First off, the man handling the bbq counter is a dirty P, I have seen several times when he would just cough and spit at the sink behind him(big health violation) as he touches/serves the prepared meats. Also, on the big butcher block he sweeps the soiled leftover from left to right...what if I was the next customer and my food was laying on that block to wipe all that greased garbage! Also, it must be noted that the two ladies who are always behind the counter taking orders/payments are very rude. Even after years of being a customer, my mom who had always orders the bbq- soy sauce chicken had asked for another small container of the salted ginger onion condiment that is usually accompanied in the chicken container. First the condiment is a very tiny tsp cup, so what's the harm in asking for another? Well, the counter lady decides to coldy give one after loudly saying,"Don't ever ask for it again!" Well, if you were going to be RUDE and CHEAP why don't you try disguising it as friendly and simply say...sorry we can't instead of doing so and looking really UGLY!

Great inexpensive food, chasiu, roast duck, rice plates and fried noodles all good! Friendly waiter and fast!! Will try 3 choices + soup combo the next time.

Old school, no fuss cantonese restaurant located in the heart of Chinatown. My office regularly orders lunch from here because they have some of the best roast meat we have had in chinatown. When you enter the restaurant, dine-in is on the left and take-out is on the right. I've only had take-out here so I don't have any comments on the dining experience. On the left of the take-out area is a fast food counter where you can choose 3 dishes with rice for a total of 4$. Since our office is more dish heavy (and less carb heavy), we choose to order large boxes of dishes from their take-out counter (I believe a large box is 3$). Our favorite is the spicy tofu (which generally sells out by 12PM so come a bit earlier to be able to choose from all their selection). Their roast meat is also decently priced, with their char siu and roast pork being our favorites. While their food is incredibly cheap and affordable, the one thing they lack is service. Whenever you order from them, you can expect to get a big dose of attitude from them. They make you feel like you're serving them instead of them serving you. They scoff at you when you order from them (especially from the roast meat section) and they make you feel uncomfortable. I really like the food here but I would definitely come more often if their service was better.
