"Yesterday, workers at New Seasons Market’s Slabtown location voted 62-14 in favor of unionizing, the Portland Mercury’s Alex Zielinski reports. Slabtown employees filed for a union election with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in August, seeking higher wages, a better work environment, and input on staff training. 'This is not just our victory, it is another win for grassroots, worker-driven organizing,' Steven Weiss, a baker at the Slabtown store and the union’s legal representative, told the Mercury. Following suit from the Seven Corners location, which voted to unionize in September, Slabtown is a part of the independent New Seasons Labor Union, whose membership now stands at around 230 strong. Three additional New Seasons locations are currently awaiting a union vote: Woodstock, Grant Park, and Concordia." - Janey Wong

A Tale of Self-Checkout Sovereignty at New Seasons Let me paint you a picture of my recent encounter with the Self-Checkout Sovereign of New Seasons. Picture this: a quiet store, empty self-checkout lanes, and a staff member who apparently graduated from the "Department of Unnecessary Complications". ## The Great Migration There I was, minding my business with my 500+ successful self-checkout experiences under my belt, when Her Majesty of the Scanner Kingdom decreed we must relocate to a regular line. Why, you ask? Because apparently, the self-checkout area is her personal fiefdom, and she takes her role as Guardian of the Beeping Machines very seriously. ## The Terms of Service Tango She insisted, with the confidence of someone who memorized the Terms of Service for fun, that this was written in stone somewhere. During my forced exile to the glacially-paced regular checkout line, I had plenty of time to fact-check this claim. Turns out, she was about as accurate as a blindfolded archer - the policy only applied to specific situations, none of which were relevant here. ## The Grand Finale But here's where it gets **truly** theatrical. When presented with this revelation, did we get a gracious acknowledgment? Oh no. Instead, we were treated to an interpretive dance of dismissal - complete with eye-rolling, hand-waving, and what I can only describe as the universal gesture for "I can't hear you over the sound of my own importance". The irony? She got exactly what she wanted - we moved, we complied, we played by her rules. Yet somehow, being proven wrong was apparently too much for her delicate sensibilities to handle. A simple "thank you" would have sufficed, but I suppose that's not part of the Self-Checkout Sovereign's royal protocol.

One of the few grocery stores in the area with a meat counter, which is the primary reason I shop here. They also have a good artisan bread selection. However, they share what has to be one of the worst designed parking lots ever.

Shout out to Wayne, Nina and Catia in the cheese department! They helped me big-time with a bulk cheese emergency this week. This crew won my forever store loyalty with their stellar customer service!

Google
My go-to for grocery shopping❣ Love the employees at this New Seasons; super friendly and down-to-earth & many other good qualities in which I could rant about all day and night❣ Only downside is that they are a bit pricey.... but more than worth it 𓆸

Bougy & expensive. But even with the national egg shortage, their eggs are still cheaper the Fred Meyers. Parking is difficult.

Google
The store is cute and clean and the staff is friendly. I tend to come here for gluten-free stuff I can't find at other grocery stores. They carry products you'll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere, which means most things cost more than a grocery chain. Oh, the lemon bars from the bakery are delicious too!

Grocery shopping at its best! Good food, great prices, friendly staff (although they may dress or look weird), good sales, good choices

Yelp
The store itself is fine. My real grievance is the cafe. It's proven often difficult to get good service. I've experienced trying to grab the baristas attention is the most difficult part. I often get acknowledged and then ignored. One of the baristas in particular is quite rude and patronizing. I unfortunately always catch them in the morning when I try to grab some caffeine before starting the day. Ive resorted to just getting drip coffee so I don't have to interact with them or try to jump up and down to get their attention for service. Howrver, the last several times I've been there the drip coffee in both carafes have been empty. When I ask if there's more available at all, I'm met with hostility. Over it.

Yelp
I had one of their coupons about to expire and was able to tuck into this location before closing to grab a pile of odds and ends. I managed to spend under $45 somehow...oh wait, I mostly avoided the bakery! Their desserts at any location are just dangerously delicious. I appreciated being able to grab quite a few on sale items. I was a bit disappointed that they had far less "stuff" than the other stores. I am just a huge fan of all their unique household items but I get it - this location seems like it is a bit smaller and also in a more heavy for theft area perhaps and they also have a lot less of most things it seemed, or less alternatives for items. The parking lot is not very big and I seemed to be in the store when it was not very busy so you might want to be mindful when to drop in. I did love the murals in the parking lot and that the store and lot are sort of tucked off to the side of a bustling area. The garage has cover but there is an open space between where you park and the store so know that as we move into the Portland rain season. This location also seems t not have much for a floral section when you are entering the store.

Yelp
this store goes out of its way to humiliate people with disabilities. I can't drive and have to walk to get groceries, so I have a small wagon to help me get stuff home. I was singled out a few weeks ago and told I am not allowed to bring it in anymore, no one can bring in anything that's from outside to help shop (including supposedly BABY STROLLERS). fine, I started parking my wagon inside the front of the store and asking occasionally if they were still enforcing this discriminatory policy, and they all kept saying "yeah,. store policy, we treat everyone the same". today I wasn't even planning on asking, but I walked in and there was a couple with a large baby stroller doing their thing, so I asked the cashier hopefully "can I use my wagon again?" and the cashier replies "I don't know, talk to a manager". the manager walks over and says "you apparently have feedback about our policies?" and I say "well, yeah, i have for weeks, but that's not what I'm asking, I just want to know if I am allowed to bring my wagon in again" and she says "no, personal shopping bags and accessories are not allowed in the store". I reply "the reason I am asking is because I was told my wagon and baby strollers aren't allowed but that you were going to be 'discussing' it and there's a stroller over there" and she says "I'm not going to discuss the stroller" so I respond "okay, so to be clear, y'all ARE still going to be discriminating against people who can't drive and have to have shopping aids" "friendliest store in town". so I park my wagon, grab the three items I need, pay for them, and start to head out and she comes back over and says "for your information, we are not going to be changing the policy, it's final, and if you want to continue to shop here, don't ask about it again" once i picked my jaw up off the floor I asked where the ... heck... this had come from. she replied that "when you ask about this, you make our cashiers uncomfortable" my dude, all i have ever asked is if you're still enforcing this discriminatory policy. she says "they feel uncomfortable when you ask that, it's disrespectful" i would ordinarily just stop shopping there, but unfortunately fred meyer's selection of produce isn't great for non-standard items and there's no one else within 3 miles that carries the stuff I need. SHAME ON YOU, NEW SEASONS.

Yelp
Shopped @ New Seasons for 12 years but this location SUCKS. Today I had the privilege of being followed by security (never happened to me in my over 50+ years) & then stopped & informed that I need to use a cart. I was told to stay put & they would bring a cart. I waited while another beefy security guard watched over me (!) -the cart finally came. I am so pissed right now-I spend thousands of dollars (well, used to) at New Seasons but after this, nah. Thanks for making me feel like a shoplifter. Buh-bye.

Andrea D.

Yelp
Sadly I am no longer going to this New Seasons. I go to the trader Joe's or Whole Foods further away. I love New Seasons but it is hard to avoid the staff that make me uncomfortable. Too often there are employees that openly chat about very inappropriate things while hardly looking at you. Also, the computer systems are very aggravating I. am tired of my MIL complainingh about the receipt system. she is too stubborn to learn how it works and It's tiring. I hope the union helps this store!! Maybe certain employees will stop being such SOUR PUSSES and complaining and swearing in front of customers. If you see a pink haired employee named Kaylie just go to a different lane, very unprofessional and rude every time I hade her, always swearing and saying something they should keep out of a work environment. I guess times are different now but I would have been reprimanded as a teenage employee if I were a fraction of awful to be around..........

Yelp
Living in Grant Park for 20 years, I was fortunate to have New Seasons, Fred Meyer, QFC, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's all within a mile. I shop at each based on my needs. New Seasons is where I go when I want quality meats, seafood and produce and prepared foods. Their hot food, deli counter, salad bar and premade meals in the refrigerator section means quick, delicious and healthy meals without cooking or cleaning! For chili dinners and BBQs, I buy their cornbread from the bakery. I know its super easy to make, but their cornbread is so much better! They have a good selection of desserts from top local bakeries, including gluten free from Gem, saving me time since I can pick up something crowd pleasing while I get the rest of my groceries. When I need a specific amount of a particular grain, flour or nut for baking or cooking, their bulk section can't be beat. Plus the digital labeling makes checkout a breeze. Also like their natural herbs, soaps, deodorant section and feel prices are competitive. I've never had issues with parking, preferring the lot on top rather than underneath. Checkout lines are quick. Service friendly. New Seasons is a great addition to Grant Park bringing their own unique value and products to an area that already has a plethora of good grocery stores.

Yelp
I used to be partial to Wholefoods, but New Seasons kicks their arse in almost every way. For one, they have a much better balance between organic and "regular"; I'm sometimes unable to find what I need at Wholefoods. Second, the price points just seem a bit less expense, although Wholefood's 365 brand is quite economical. The friendliness is about the same. New Seasons just feels more community-like, Wholefoods never did, even pre-Amazon. And the hot bar at Wholefoods is just tired. But what really distinguishes them are the samples: it's above and beyond at New Seasons.

Yelp
I usually have nothing but good words to say when I describe my experience at New Seasons. This time I do not. We came here tonight simply for a dessert. We couldn't get waited on. There were a couple of reasons why. One of the staff, a fellow with a green pony tail, was too busy lecturing a young woman who'd tried to shoplift from the store. He seemed to relish in it. Its awful to be hungry and to get caught...but to have to stand there and endure an academy award performance is completely unnecessary. I know theft increases overall prices at the till, but come on. I felt bad for her. This fellow could use some tips in how to do his loss prevention job more efficiently and effectively without all the added guilt piled on. Almost immediately after that interchange where the young woman was told about all of her consequences including being banned from the store...(I could hear the entire conversation without really having to listen too hard...it was loud enough for me to hear...so much for allowing the young girl a graceful walking out.)...the woman who worked the desert counter went over to the baked goods and began to throw all the baked goods like croissants into a big garbage bin. How odd was that timing? I tried to get her attention with a question...excuse me, do you donate any of your day old baked goods to charitable organizations...I mean, they could have given the croissant to the hungry girl who was just ejected from the store? She answered me only after I asked her three times. I kind of lost my appetite for my desert after that. We did purchase some fruits and vegetables to go home with...and when my partner looked at the price for the cherries...it was definite sticker shock...$15.47 for two pounds of cherries. Many of the ones I've eaten were spoiled or over-ripe. Again, my reviews for this location are usually 5's and on occasion 4's. This time it was the staff and their attitude that did it for me. I dare you to get back to me on this. The poor and the homeless customers deserve to be treated with as much respect and dignity as anyone else who shops here. There were a lot of teachable moments I witnessed. I hope the management does some coaching here. At this moment in time, New Seasons certainly was not the friendliest store in town.

Kc P.

Yelp
Been going here for a long while. Tonight I noticed all the yellow SALE tags on half of everything. If you look close it says regular price for 6 pack of beer as 15$ and its on sale for 12$. Basically the sale price is a dollar more then normal price. I have never ever seen a 6 pack for 15$. This store is actually more expensive then Whole Food which is obnoxious. I mentioned this to cashier and pretty sure he failed to disagree with my observations. Called manager and he was respectful and said he would look into this.

samuel r.

Yelp
These are some of the rudest employees at a grocery store. I've had the displeasure of being in the presence of. I would definitely shop elsewhere. They seem to think they own the store and are rude to people that they deem not good enough to be inside the location. I feel like I experienced racism and discrimination here and I know I'm not the only one. I also noticed that the employees at the front end were stealing from the store.

Jack M.

Yelp
This is a great market. I stopped in here during my visit of Portland to pick up a few items for my excursion to Mt. Hood. I was in the mood for some healthier options which was the reason I choose this place. I picked up some packaged almonds, dark chocolate, a couple of bottles of water, and a few nutrition bars. The store was rather organized and clean. Customers service was very good when I asked for located an item. The lady at the register was a hoot and made my visit that much better. The place reminded me of a "Whole Foods," if you need perspective.

Melanie T.

Yelp
I Love stopping at New Seasons every time i come visit my mom. I always leave with oregon brand whole bean coffee bags and a sweet treat. Tried the sushi and it was surprisingly very good.

Elisa B.

Yelp
This is the second time in a row that we have paid for item that never made it into our bag. The first time was $30 worth of avocado and the second time $35 worth of steak. You need to check your cashiers because they're stealing from your clients.

Quinn A.

Yelp
This NSM is the closest to my house so I come here often. However, the parking lot is terrible. Hard to get in and out, narrow. I sometimes park on the street in back just to avoid it. And it's always crowded. The selection of fresh food keeps me coming back in spite of that freaking parking lot. They make my favorite ever tzitziki - find it in the prepared foods. Great lemon tabbouleh. The produce section has cleaned and bagged greens in every combination. I love the asian with cilantro and peanuts, and I love cabbage mix too. Now that there is a bigger NSM near my office (21st NW and Quimby) I probably won't come by here as much. But my bus does go right past and it's easy to hop off and back on, so who knows? Maybe when I just need a couple of things I can carry.

Fair C.

Yelp
Congrats on your latest hirings, I now see people that look like me. Diversity is great. As a POC that shops there and spends $$$ I always felt like a "special person" while shopping and was something I lived with without a complete understanding why. Now I'm not an anomaly. Thanks again! And of course, in addition, the best produce, meat, bakery etc fully stocked depts!!!

Brandon M.

Yelp
The staff here is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Prices are what you'd expect from a store like this but their selection and staff make it worth it. From cheeses, to beer/wine (the sell/fill growlers), meat, flowers, bakery and ready to eat foods, this place has it all. They offer 10% veterans discounts on Tuesdays which is awesome. This store has made New Seasons my favorite grocery store I've ever been to. They also play good music while shopping.

Barbara D.

Yelp
This is my go to place for a quick, in and out breakfast San. I have the everything bagel toasted, with avocado, lettuce and tomato, and tofu spread. The service is always congenial and there's lots of room to sit down and read one of the alternative papers in town. I haven't had a chance to try the juice bar, but I'm going to come back and do that soon. The poppyseed bagels are also awesome.

Michelle D.

Yelp
I just moved here and live walking distance so I decided to give this place a try, I have dietary restrictions and needed specific items. A very friendly, knowledgeable employee name Lizbeth helped me. She was very patient and helped me get everything I needed. I was trying out a new vegan recipe and she had some awesome recommendations and let me know how much she loves them because she's vegan too! I will definitely be coming back because of her!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Visited this store during COVID-19 and found such a rude, self righteous staff awaiting me. I had brought a roller bag and the checkout person sanctimoniously let me know those were no longer permitted. I understand, and totally support, the great efforts stores are making to keep people safe during this time...but this was so beyond the pale. My roller bag, which allows me to walk to the store, does not come in contact with anyone. The checkout person was very rude. I truly appreciate all those who are working during this time and am grateful for all grace extended...but encourage New Seasons to also extend grace to those it serves.

Rebecca H.

Yelp
We ate here before swimming at Grant Park. There was a nice cafe space and staff were friendly. The food was just ok. Mac and cheese was decent. The sushi was not good at all. Parking is available, but the spaces are very tight.

Melanie T.

Yelp
The Tamarind sauce for the Samosa was way too spicy because it had chili flakes in it. Usually it's the Samosa that's too spicy for me

Vinnie B.

Yelp
Great employees here and great manager too. Love the bakery, the Pecan Pie is the best in Portland, they use molasses. Fruits and veggies are really great. The hot food is very tasty and the folks that work in this dept are very helpful and pleasant. The ethnic food selection is pretty good (Hatch farm products). I would love to see more packaged frozen chicken breast. I order the Blue Marlin every week, if they have it available and it's always super fresh. The overhead music is funky. This place isn't cheep but it's so worth putting good trusted food in our body. I wish everyone could shop here. I am very grateful

B C.

Yelp
I thought to myself that I could get a croissant for half as much somewhere else and then I realized the ones here are twice as fat, like the fattest croissants I've ever seen (complimentary). Always love getting lattes from here too, they always taste amazing and everyone who works here is super nice and great to talk to. The shopping carts are somehow amazing too, like you never realized you really needed a shopping cart as smooth as the ones here, and then you're like oh wow I'm really being spoiled aren't I

Thai L.

Yelp
I had lost my wallet outside of New Seasons and the assistant manager Jon Hallman found it for me and even took the extra step of reaching out via social media to make sure I retrieved it. I'm really touched by the experience as I was obviously panicking when I lost it, my passport and car keys were also zipped in it! I had posted a review before with less stars but that kind of honesty and service proved me wrong on my impression of the store before. I ONLY shop at New Seasons now because of that experience- because from that act of honesty, integrity and kindness alone I've saved hundreds of dollars and possibly weeks-decades of headaches if my personal information had landed in the wrong hands. I can't say thank you enough. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Kay L.

Yelp
Came in for a morning pastry, but the area was filled of little bugs and flies. Ended up a wasted trip as I wasn't about to buy donuts covered with bugs.

Jayne H.

Yelp
Everyone is so friendly here. It really is the friendliest store. Grace, Alesha, Ben( all 3 of them) , Justin, Ashley , Marriane , Jake, you all rock! Thank you for always making my shopping experience a good one.

Richard F.

Yelp
Good selection but the staff is totally unconcerned at the point of sale. Considering there is at least three stores nearby that sell the same stuff, and New Seasons is the most expensive out of all of them, I would have hoped that a little more consideration at the counter would be in order. Much better service at Trader Joes, Fred Meyers and Whole Foods, not to mention Market of Choice and other smaller local stores. I guess they are so successful they don't care about the customer anymore. That must be nice.

Jen S.

Yelp
I was a little intimidated by the parking at first but the new turn light on Broadway made it easy to get around the back and pull in the parking garage. Plenty of parking back there and easy stairs or elevator up to store. I filled up my basket and was most impressed with the seafood/meat counter. Seafood: they had whole sardines for $2.99 a pound. What in the world do you see in a fresh butcher or seafood case for that price?? I ordered "two" and the lovely woman asked if I wanted them cleaned. Me, never having eaten sardines other than from a tin can said "yes pleas but will they still have heads and tails?" The answer was yes. She only took out the guts. These things were .40 cents each people. I cannot tell you what a treat and wonderful weird experience it was to eat them too. I dredged in a little flower and pan seared a couple minutes on each side. Now I feel like a million omega bucks! Try it! Not for the feint of heart.....but you know who you are....yum.

Jesy B.

Yelp
Do not come in here hungry, as I am apt to do. There is so many tasty, tasty things just screaming to be eaten IMMEDIATELY. You've been warned. Anywho, it's a grocery store but the thing I like about New Seasons is it's a good in-between store for me, vs, say Whole Paycheck. Similiar options foodwise, cheaper prices and you can buy soda because they don't foist WF's hoity toity how dare would you drink soda ever! I do, dammit. It's very clean and well organized as they tend to be. Oh! They have a burrito bar, and a toast bar - on top of the typical salad, wok and sandwich bar you'd find at other locales. There's also a good selection of to go options if you don't to wait for something to be made. Service is always pretty good and helpful - but just don't come hungry!

David W.

Yelp
First time being in the store. It is amazing. Really love the store set up and products. Unfortunately, I was here around 6:00pm to do an amazon delivery pick up. I was scheduled by amazon to pick up all items by 6:20pm. I started asking for my items at around 6:15pm and an employee told me that those items won't be available til 7:30pm. I was so worried that my delivery performance rating will be effected by this and I kindly ask the manager on duty to be my witness that I was at New Seasons store on time, my items just weren't ready. She refused to do so and re-enforce stating that they aren't require to get my pick up items ready til 7:30pm. So, I waited til 7:40pm and still couldn't find those items that I was scheduled by Amazon to pick up. I asked the last employee who worked at that station and she told me that there won't be anymore packages going on the rack. I need to wait til tomorrow for my items. Thanks to New Seasons because of your wonderful staff, my account with amazon flex was under investigation.

Joan F.

Yelp
Wow, I love this store. It's beautiful, the employees are professional and friendly, and the African peanut soup is a filling meal for under $5. Parking is easy and well-lit, and I can always find satisfying treats and main stays for my allergic self. For example, the lemon tart--eggless and gluten free. It's now a holiday staple for occasion dinners. Not a lemon fan? The eggless, gluten free truffle bites are equally grand. Following paleo eating? You'll easily find Red Boat fish sauce here, along with coconut aminos, organic lime juice, and so on. Want something unique? Ask customer service and you shall receive. Hungry while you shop? Grab something from the salad bar or grill and enjoy in the cafe. Grab something to go and enjoy.

Ashley F.

Yelp
This particular New Seasons on Broadway has the WORST coffee bar in history. Always some issue when I order from there. They are slow AF. Take their sweet time to finaly greet you and take your order. And with zero orders behind me, I've shopped more, paid for my crap and go to pick up my coffe and their always just starting it and I've got to wait 5 more minutes. Like seriously what were you doing that whole time?! They don't even have a pickup location that is different from the ordering line, which is so stupid. Apparently they expect you to wait in line again to pickup in the same place where a line of people are ordering. Makes no sense. And no one is paying enough attention to speak out and direct you otherwise, or give you your coffee outside of the line. So inefficient and absolutely irritating. They were "out" of oatmilk for weeks, yet the store fridge is stocked with it. Any right-minded mngr would say grab some off our own shelf just to have something for customers while you wait for your order to come in. I could literally go buy some oatmilk and ask them to use it. All common sense issues. Not the place to ever go if you want a quick anything. And their orange dots on the floor to direct people make no sense whatsoever. It's like the pandemic made everyone stupid.

Patti K.

Yelp
Boy was I ready for this New Seasons to open! The staff is as you would expect, friendly and helpful - though I could tell the opening has been quite a whirlwind for them. I'm not sure I like the layout, though I have no suggestions with how to do it better. For example nestled in between the bulk goods, and supplements, you will find the baking aisle - half an aisle actually, and you won't see it from the front of the store. I've been twice now and still find myself wandering around to where I started trying to find something. I think I will get there, it's just not quite as I expected. The growler station was unexpected - really cool, and totally Portland. There IS parking - which I worried about, and two ways to get to it. One is from the traffic light just west of 33rd, and one is in between that light and the one at 33rd. If you park under the building, be prepared for a LOT of delivery trucks and construction - and it's pretty congested. I think they would prefer you use the entrance to parking which is to the east of that - in between the two large buildings, and closer to 33rd.

Yelp
I am a loyal New Seasons shopper and love their stores....but today I want to give a special shout out for one of their managers, Zach. I was having difficulties locating some past receipts and Zach was kind, patient, and so helpful. He went the extra mile (or two or three) to track down much needed said recipts and emailed them to me after calling me on my cell letting me know he was able to locate them. I was in management at Nordstrom for 20 years, and THIS is the kind of employee that makes a company stand out and create loyalty among it's customers. Thank you Zach, you are a treasured asset to NS!

Katherine V.

Yelp
As stated before, New Seasons is simply the best. After recently moving, this is now my home store. This location is great about samples. It seems like they have them everyday! We're not taking about 'a cracker and some dip' samples. They're frequently grilling salmon or making burgers behind the counter to serve up with some sort of delicious dip. And to top it off, they usually have beverage samples to go along with it. Love the mini coffees! Thursday night is game night here. Come and play board games and have some free snacks. Last time the free snacks included dark chocolate covered ginger. Delicious! On Fridays they have $4 smoothies and juices. I like the signs in the produce department explaining what's in season and what should have peak flavor. Also, the produce department usually has samples out. Of course, just like people, not every store is perfect. It would be great if they would bring back the health/beauty section sample basket. I miss that ever since I moved from the Cedar Hills store. Also, while their brewed Stumptown coffee is superb (save $0.10 if you bring your own mug) their specialty drinks could use a little work. Lattes and mochas tend to be too sweet for me here, and then if I ask for a decrease in sugar, they just don't taste balanced. As such, I usually stick to the drip coffee. They're great about exchanging items if things just don't work out. I had some lemon cucumbers go bad and they let me switch them out for some other ones. No questions asked. They're also great about bringing in local vendors to hand out samples and coupons. I love that. It does take some time to figure out the layout of the store. The health/wellness section kinda blocks some areas, such as olive oil and baking. Once you learn where everything is it gets better. Convenient digital scale in the bulk section lets you weight items before you make it to checkout. Also, it lets you weigh your bulk container so you're not over paying. Anyways, I'm sure I could go on and on. No need though, since we all know New Seasons reigns supreme as the best grocery store in Portland.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting this new seasons as a family the trip was amazing they had food tasting beer tasting cranberry sauce tastingcheese tasting pickled asparagus which is really good by the way I love how they support local businesses this was a great investment in our community and I'm saying this from an African-American perspective. They have everything you could think up gluten-free all of the alternatives they had tofu cream cheese I mean this place is awesome there is no reason not to eat the lights now did you want to eat the prices are not outrageous but yes you are going to pay more for quality and to know that you're eating happy animals in that process junk

Yelp
Rude, self righteous staff every time I've been. No thanks. The nice selection couldn't even bring me back.

Yelp
So excited to get a New Seasons in the neighborhood. No more am I limited to Whole Foods' crummy meat, seafood, prepared foods, and mediocre bakery! New Seasons shines in all of those areas. Also unlike Whole Foods (I live next to the one in Hollywood so that's why I'm using it as my main comparison here), one of the nice things about New Seasons is that they carry "regular" stuff; You will find your Lucky Charms for that one time per year that you simply must have them. That said, their prices are higher than other places you could pick those up (Fred Meyer or *gasp* QFC). I was worried that the location of the store would cause a traffic nightmare, but on opening day with a large number of customers everything ran smoothly on Broadway/33rd. Pro tip: Brown some of their bulk spicy sausage, add sockarooni pasta sauce, profit (put it on pasta, of course). 1lb per jar of sauce. Yes, really.

Yelp
I go here weekly. I pay the high prices. I love the selection and the quality. But oh man, please, stop trying to sell rotting produce. Every week there will be some produce item that is well past usable still sitting on the shelf, at full price. It would appear that New Seasons has a policy of never changing prices on items, even if that means it all winds up in the landfill. That's fine. But if you're going to charge the highest prices in the city, please try to make sure that the products you are selling are actually usable.

Yelp
If you want to buy alcohol in this grocery store that is what can happen: 1. If you are not alone at the check out you will be asked if you and the person who is standing with you are together(creepy question, i can stay with my neighbor or my child or my ex, do you ask everyone if they are together? Or is it works only on people who you just do not like at that particular moment?) 2. If you will say yes the person will be asked to show their id. Why? Who knows. The cashier will tell you the mantra about the law. 3. "Manager" will come to you and tell exactly the same story that they have the right to ask all members of the party(?) their ids because there is a law. 4. When you will ask THE MANAGER OF THE STORE to show you that law he will tell you that he has NO TIME FOR THAT. The mighty manager of the store does not have a time for you, customers. He will give you his card with only a name(no last name) on it and an email to address your concerns. His email. No higher power above him. Only he. 5. You go home and try to write to this address to know more about this law ... yeah, you guessed, the mighty manager will tell you again about the law. Same manager. 6. You go back, with both ids, just to check this policy. The previous cashier will change right in front of you with someone else, but she saw you and recognized you. New one wont even ask your id(which is strange, the first one saw you, she remembers to ask your id because the law and she did not thought you were old enough to stay near the person who buys alcohol, so why wouldn't you say to a new cashier that she must ask ids again? But no. She just goes away.) You buy your beer. You ask for a manager again just to ask him why? What changed? Do we look older now? And yeah he is not in the store anymore, aha. 7. You call OLCC to ask about the law, because the busy-busy MANAGER OF THE STORE was unable to say anything intelligible about it. And behold! There is no such law. Yes there is of course the law about the one who purchases, which does make sense. But no law about asking ids from anyone standing with the customer or asking if they are together. So if this is the policy of the store, then customers must have access to it in the store( and it should be provided by a manager or a cashier if asked) , like any other store policy which concerns customers. And this is a local business. Never went there again. There is a lot of other grocery stores around with professional cashiers and professional managers, lower prices and better choices, and way better quality of food.

Yelp
I feel like I could live in New Seasons. I'm from Southern California, so I don't have a great passion for local and organic food, but this store inspires me. In addition to the grocery and florist services, they have several "food bars" serving beautiful, fresh food to-go or to eat in the dining area (which has plenty of outlets in case you want to work on your laptop, etc.). These food bars include wok and ramen, sandwich, burrito, soup and salad, and coffee and juice, as well as a novel toast bar. Plus, there are always samples of coffee, beer, and soup, plus food "solutions" at certain times of day and occasional vendor products. The interior is bright, clean, cheerful, and well-organized. The employees are generally friendly and helpful.

Yelp
This location deserves to be called "friendliest place." Awesome staff!!! Vegetable seemed so fresh. I am totally in love with their banana muffins and croissant which were made daily and fresh. The biggest thing makes me love this place is the way they set up the window along with the side walk to show people how clean their kitchen is and how professional their staff are.

Yelp
I recently had a friend from Paris, France come visit me here in Portland. What do you suppose impressed her the most? Mount Hood? The Gorge? Yes, she loved those but there was one thing she just could not stop talking about ... this New Seasons. She was amazed. "We have nothing like this in Paris!" It made me realize just how privileged we are to be able to do our grocery shopping at a place like this. Outstanding customer service, free samples everywhere, very high quality produce and meats, piping hot fresh bread, delicious deli ... it's a whole other level from your typical Albertsons or Safeway, and yet in many cases it doesn't even cost more. If I could change anything -- well, the parking lot is a bit of a pain, and it would be nice if they had a grill like some other locations do. But these are small quibbles. As much as I might love to go live in Paris, France .... I have to admit ... I'd miss New Seasons!

Yelp
I have never been to a grocery store with as friendly staff as this place. It's contagious.

Yelp
I visited my neighborhood new seasons a few days ago, and wonder why I ever stopped going there! after so much excellent customer service I got one dry chicken and they insisted on a full refund. It was not prime hours, and not even that dry. I called back, and a MISS. Julie Heron said that she would look into it, and I was embarrassed to call but she made it so comfortable and easy that this just reminds me that this is the only store in my neighborhood that I should visit because it is truly the friendliest store in town!

Yelp
I agreed with all of the positive reviews given for this store--until today. Usually, if store staff are stocking items on shelves, and the person doing the stocking is busy at the section where I need to get an item, I leave and get other items, then return to that section. I had already done that move and returned to find the clerk still stocking the dairy case. I stood by for a few minutes, thinking he might notice me waiting. He appeared not to, but did finally turn in my direction. I said, "Excuse me, I just need to get the butter," and reached in and got my pound of butter. He said, "That's all right," and then said in an angry tone, "Actually, it's not all right. You can talk to us. You can ask if you can get to the item instead of reaching in front of us." We both had masks on, so I couldn't fully gage the expression on his face, (nor could he on mine), but I was more surprised at his reaction than anything else. I left without saying anything more to him. Maybe he was just having a bad morning. Maybe he was feeling like he wasn't being acknowledged as a person, but I would not talk that way to a fellow customer in a similar circumstance, let alone as a clerk to a customer in my store. Strange times!

Yelp
I'm with Jesy B - New Seasons may in fact be the most dangerous place on the planet when hungry. And by dangerous, I mean wonderful. I've spent countless mid-afternoons gazing aimlessly into my fridge only to slam it with the confidence that only knowing New Seasons has hot, healthy food at the ready can bring. Seriously, we're talking smorgasbord proportions: build your own burritos, sandwiches, salads, woks, stir frys, ramens, along with a hot buffet and an enormous cold case. Their olive bar alone would put most salad bars to shame. They also have a tiny Portland-focused gift section that is perfect for cards, and quirky gifts that, along with a bottle of wine and a bouquet of flowers, would make you the ideal dinner guest. (Think: visiting in-laws.) Plus, groceries. And $4 16oz cold-pressed juice Fridays. And extreme baby-friendliness.

Yelp
Grant Park is location #15. The store lay out is awesome. The newest edition that they've added for GP is juice bar, toast bar, ramen station, beer on taps ( bring your own growler ), etc.

Yelp
This new Grant Park location is pretty deluxe, with easy off-street parking and a super roomy (for a New Seasons) interior. The "Toast Bar" was all the rage when it first opened, because toast is very very popular in San Francisco, and San Francisco demanded that Portland love ridiculous bourgeois toast as well. But Portland apparently does not take its food trend direction from the Bay Area, and the toast bar was kind of a flop. But i digress... I have something of a love-hate relationship with New Seasons. It's for old Marxist reasons, really. Despite the fact that I am firmly a member of the American bourgeois class with an ample enough salary to be ass-raped a whopping $6 for a dozen eggs and to tack on an extra dollar or two a pound for every piece of produce, I have "class issues" with places like New Seasons and Whole Paycheck. The food is high quality, and healthy, and organic, and all that. Very good stuff. However, it's also obscenely expensive and simply out of reach for a typical working class family. It's for privileged American bourgeois types (like myself), who can afford to buy food products only available to people of means while poor people slowly kill themselves with cheap, processed poison. Consequently the place is full of beautiful privileged white urban yuppie types--people who can afford to have "principles" about the kind of foods they eat. This is an injustice, and I often feel as though this privilege I have is unmerited. And in fact, I rarely come to New Seasons, preferring to primarily shop at Fred Meyer with the hoi poloi. And in the end the Hollywood Fred Meyer has more selection--including produce--anyway. That said, I also have to say that I very much admire New Seasons in particular (Whole Foods can go fuck off with their inflated prices and their vocal opposition to the Affordable Care Act) for supporting local fledgling start up food product businesses. Say you start a new hot sauce business, or breakfast cereal, or chocolate, or whatever. It's next to impossible to get distribution for your product at grocery stores. You have to really beat the bushes to get your product out there and it's not until you're wildly successful that a grocery chain will even talk to you. Well New Seasons makes it a priority to give small local producers some shelf space. I think that's super commendable. And for that reason I just can't hate on New Seasons that much in the end--even though I rarely go there because it's just stupid expensive.
