New Spicy Village

CASH ONLY. A quaint spot on the corner, that is very fast and had seating on a Saturday. There's a lunch special til 5p which is generous. We enjoyed the ox tail soup hand pulled noodles, which were good, (we added chili oil) the texture of the hand pulled noodles were excellent, not too thick. The steamed pork dumplings were also great, esp with the house sauce. This isn't the original spicy village, so don't get it mixed up. Enjoy!

The food seems good overall and it wasn't overly busy, We tried their pulled noodles with beef and lamb. The beef soup base was pretty good, but my wife said I should of got the spicy version instead which would offer a nice kick to the taste buds. That would be for the next visit. I saw a few older reviews knocking this place for using the name of a place similar to another one that is close by which provided a one star review without even actually trying the food.

My controversial opinion is that new spicy village is better than spicy village. I’ve always been able to get a seat. Food is HOT coming out. Sesame chicken is so crunchy and the sauce is perfect. Love the bok choy as well. I always ask for the seaweed off of the hui mei, just personal taste. I’ve taken a ton of people here who also love it. Idk what the brown sauce is in the fridge in the siracha bottles but it’s great on the soup dumplings and beef pancake (another fav of mine). Cash only. $42 for 5 things, perfectly split between 2 people.

I have lived in NYC for all my life and this might be one of my two favorite eateries in NY. You never have to wait for a table, and the tables are spread out enough where there is ample space for bags and appendages if the restaurant does become crowded. The food is delicious. I prefer the dry noodles to the soups, although the soups hit nicely on a frigid day. I usually opt for the spicy chicken (better than OG Spicy Village imho), but I’m also quite content with spicy brisket and black bean. My favorite steamed dumplings in Chinatown are the spicy scallion sauce pork dumplings - in addition to the dumplings themselves, which are delicious and nicely proportioned, the vinegar-based dumpling condiment is the best I’ve ever had. It must be some sort of guarded proprietary mix of specific branded ingredients, their ratio, and then maybe some wild cards. It is SO good. I’ve thought about offering to buy the exact recipe for personal use. The Big Tray Chicken is a star, but too big for a quick meal for 1. You can order it with huimei added inside. The rest of the menu I have yet to fully explore - I LOVE the items that I frequently order. Adventure on the horizon surely, but my favorites made it there for a reason. The service is very prompt, respectful, and helpful. It is the same woman all day every day. She has never been anything but pleasant and professional to me - I have not seen her act cold or rude to anyone ever. My noodles come out in less than 5 minutes :D The space is always very clean, and while not intricately or extravagantly decorated, it has some unique charm in its retro simplicity. Chinese folk museum is usually piped in through their speaker setup. It’s an excellent place to get a quick and fast, delicious and affordable meal. I’m there all the time. Try it - get the dry spicy chicken with spicy scallion sauce pork dumplings, you won’t regret it.

I am torn between a three and a four star rating , but I had a decent lunch here . The reviews made me hesitant but the restaurant next door was crowded and this was empty so we came in . We all had the chicken and rice meal which tasted okay and had flavor . It was also a healthy portion of chicken . I would say to try it for lunch . Bonus points for being super affordable as we were 5 people and spent less than 50 dollars . Forgot to take a picture of my meal as I was too hungry .

I had boiled dumplings and the beef brisket hui mei here, primarily because it was still open closer to 10 p.m. on a weeknight. Both items were fine, but a little light on flavor. The person working was perfectly nice and easy to order from. The blue-green fluorescent lights are unappetizing. There's nothing wrong with this place, but it doesn't have much appeal with so much tasty competition in the immediate vicinity.

Wow! My Beef Hui Mei was soooo delicious. The beef was tender and juicy. The noodles were cooked perfectly and had a nice bounce to them. The broth was very flavorful aswell. I also tried their steamed dumplings which were also amazing! Recommend this place if you like quick service and thick hand pulled noodles!
