Delicious! We have a surplus of delicious burgers in OKC, so I don't know if I'm brave enough to say New State has the best burgers, but they should definitely be in the conversation! Their standard "New State Cheeseburger" is great and their Theta is a wonderful take on the classic. Their beer cheese is very flavorful and we always make sure to get some cheese fries or the pretzel to take advantage. Favorite spot in the Plaza for sure! Only negative is it has been pretty warm inside during the summer months, so be prepared!

First time her. Service by our waitress today was excellent. She was the only one working at noon when we walked in. Had great recommendations and for being the only server/bartender she still took the time to give us recommendations and was very fast to get us refills and check in on us. The food was great. Definitely get the BBQ on the side for the western burger, it was a mess but very good. Will be back. Get this lady some help though!

Lots of good reviews however this is not one of them. Not that it wasn’t a bad burger I think it was just mediocre. There are several other places I would recommend. To me the thin patties were over cooked, so it was a dry burger. The fries should have came with the meal not as an add on. The fries were cooked like we wanted - crispy! Which was great however, they were over seasoned. If you’re going to try this place out and you don’t mind heavy seasoning be my guest! If not request no seasoning and add your own. I love blue cheese on a burger but unfortunately that is not an option. As a matter of fact the cheese section is pretty limited! Your options are American or shredded - no blue cheese, no pepper jack, no provolone, no Swiss, no cheddar. We went after the lunch rush and the inside seating is limited. However, there were two tables free so we sat down immediately. Service was good so no complaints there but overall just not my style or place for grabbing a burger.

Husband heard about this place on the radio, thought we would give it a try! Glad we did! So good! Very friendly, helpful! Food was excellent, ordered a Cape Cod which was good! Loved the in house made cheese sauce! Loved the pickles and onions chopped on burgers! Loved the Brussel Sprouts!! Will be back! Parking could be better, only a few spots in front, had to park across street and pay 2$ walk over a few blocks

Google
The food was amazing, I had the Mexico Burger and I ordered it medium and I got medium and the burger was cooked to perfection. Afterward I ordered the Brooklyn Blackout shake and boy let me tell you, that shake was amazing it almost took me out 😂 but a finished it, a must try. The service was also great our waiter Lalo if that how you spell his name, but he was great, he greeted us with a warm smile and talked with us and he told us what you recommended and we took his advice and everything was just like he said, they was good. Black Tap is a spot that will always return to and recommend to everyone who wants something good to eat and great service.

Google
You must get the Brussel Sprouts and the Fried Banana Peppers. Great burgers and very good service. Their ice tea is really good, too. Nice place to get out of the heat.

Google
Best burger in the state. Owners and staff are amazing! Very unique combinations for the burgers. Amazing bourbon selection. Fries are addictive. KFC BANANA PEPPERS EVEN MORE SO. Dont miss those!

Google
This is a great burger spot. In OKC I feel like everything is a smash burger and New State offers a good change of pace. The staff are very friendly. Space is small but quaint. I will say do not come here expecting to stay because it will burn a hole in your pocket book. Eat a burg then get out of there. PS: Pro tip, ask to have your burger cut in half by chef.

Yelp
Awesome burgers in a classic bar setting. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Sweet potato fries and pretzels are great!

Yelp
What a jewel of a place! The Western Bacon Burger was awesome and hubby said the Hot Hamburger really good as well. The Chocolate Mousse Cake was to die for. Our waiter was Ricardo and he was super. The place is small but so worth going to. We will definitely go back!
google avatar

Karene C.

Yelp
My husband and I went here for dinner. He ordered the patty melt with tots. I had the chicken sandwich with fries. Next go around I will definitely get a burger because I loved the flavors in his patty melt. The fries were addicting. The flavoring was perfect. I ordered an old fashioned which was great! It ended up being $5 during happy hour! The service could not have been better! I love the space.

Yelp
The food was delicious but our server Ricardo was delightful to speak with and incredibly fast! Made us some wonderful cocktails as well! Love the music played here and it's a very great spot for either a drink or a bite to eat.

Yelp
I went here for a Yelp Elite event and was happy to see I got a free meal. The ambiance is like old school Empife vibes and very casual. I had never been here before and hadn't heard of it so I'm glad it was a recommended place! The burger was delicious and the ketchup was amazing with my fries. The new state burger was perfect. I highly recommend coming here for lunch.

Yelp
Photos of Cheeseburgers on Yelp were very beckoning, so I decided to go here for lunch before we set out for Little Rock. My Cheeseburger with American Cheese was very good but not medium rare as ordered. An order of Beer Cheese Fries contained excellent melted Beer Cheese. I enjoyed pulsing instrumental piped in music while we sat eating in a tavern setting.

Yelp
Came in and love how festive the decor was inside. The server was nice and attentive to us. Tried the new state cheeseburger with fries. I love how crispy the bun was and the sauce mixed with onion that on top of the patty was delicious. The fries were very crispy and little salty but thats okay. My boyfriend got the patty melt which was also crispy and he really like it. Theres also a bar there if you wanted alcoholic drinks which we didn't try anything but will definitely come back and try other foods

Yelp
Really good burgers! We have tried to eat here before but it was shut-down for a private event. I ordered the patty-melt and subbed a GF bun for the Texas toast. The burger was juicy and full of flavor, without being too much to keep the bun together. I added bacon and it appeared to be Irish bacon (rashers) - absolutely delish! The tots were just tots - perfectly crispy and great with the side of BBQ sauce I asked for. The service was fast, and friendly. The restaurant is small, but has a very cool vibe. We will be back!

Yelp
I read the reviews and there were lots of high marks. My take away is it's just a mediocre hamburger. I felt the burgers were over cooked, due to the thin burgers they were just cooked too long! The fries were good but again felt they were over seasoned. I would recommend no seasoning or just put it in the side so you can control how much goes in the fries. It's rather small inside with not many tables but our timing was after the lunch rush so there were 2 tables available. I felt the service was good and servers were friendly. Not sure if I would make a return visit!

Yelp
I can't believe I've never been here! Their burgers are fu**ing amazing! And they have a variant of their main burger where they face them down into cheese sauce. Their fried banana peppers appetizer was great and novel, as was their tater tots. If they had shakes or interesting beverages that'd be awesome - although they also do have a full bar. Stylish interior with art on the wall and cool designs. Certainly recommended if you are in the Plaza District of OKC!

Yelp
I was really looking forward to splurging on a nice juicy cheeseburger but my burger was not that at all. It was dry and burnt. I could literally taste the bitterness in every bite. If I wasn't in a hurry I would have asked for a whole new burger. Luckily I also ordered their brussels sprouts instead of fries. Those were great but didn't make up for the burger because they seemed over priced. I'm not sure I'll be back here.

Yelp
This is a great burger spot to check out. I sat at the bar on an early Saturday evening. The service was fast. The bartender was very pleasant and did not constantly hound you, he simply let me enjoy my time there. Which is important to point out, cause some places are not like that. I ordered a double cheeseburger with a side of fries. The burger comes with a spread of onions and pickles, that complemented the burger perfectly. The fries were delicious with a little crunch consistency to them. Perfect hidden gem

Yelp
The burgers are fabulous! The service is nice but could be a bit faster. I wish they had more on their menu like something grilled and not covered in oil. A grilled chicken sandwich or salad could make a good impression on the menu.

Yelp
New State Burger is the place to go for a great burger! The atmosphere is easy casual, the staff is attentive and it's always really really good!

Yelp
Was not sure what to expect on a Sunday evening, but we were pleasantly surprised. The place has a cool vibe and reminds us of Chicago neighborhood bars. The Xmas decor was unique and fun. An eclectic playlist of Latin jazz, Country, Norteño, Reggae, etc. was piped in, but was a little loud considering only 2 other tables and a guy at the bar occupied the space. It was better when 10 or so others rolled in and the chatter increased. There are only about 8 tables and 10 bar stools. The server was friendly and laid back and was very attentive. Part of the kitchen is open to the dining space, so clattering dishes competed with the chatter and music. The bar is inviting; well stocked with spirits but only 5 beers on tap. We started with the fried pepper app which had a nice, light panko coating, pickled mild peppers and served with a yummy buttermilk/ranch dipping sauce. The peppers were very good but a little too pickly/salty for our taste. The burgers all come with 2 patties that don't appear to be those frozen variety and was 1/2 lb to 2/3 lb worth of burger! The edges were pleasantly charred, but centers were juicy. I loved the bun which had been warmed on the gridle. My toppings consisted of Merican cheese, diced pickles and onions. I added a couple slices of the thick cut smoked bacon which were generous and delicious. The Dijion/mayo dressing was our least favorite part, but we don't like mayo on burgers. A variety of dressings to choose from would be awesome. The fries were above average and plentiful. All in all, it was a pleasant dining experience.

Yelp
The service was impeccable...same for the ambiance...very intimate and low key. Now, the food...the burgers needed more seasoning, and they were overcooked...slightly burnt. The bread on the sourdough was too hard. The best was the pretzel! OMG...the freshness and the cheese. I would return for the pretzel only.

Yelp
We've been here many, many times since this initial visit. We love the fried pepper appetizers (little rings of crack - you cannot stop eating them! LOL). Several of us that go get the hot hamburger. It's gravy-covered goodness! The last couple of times we went, the food was different. The burgers weren't as good. The gravy was definitely meh - to the point that it detracted from the food. Overall, the experience really did go from a 5 to a 3. I'm not sure why they changed up the things they changed, but for me, it certainly wasn't for the better.

Yelp
I have been craving a good burger, so my family went to New State Burgers to try out the place I had been hearing about from friends and social media. The high praise I had been hearing turned out to be well founded. The burgers were delicious-juicy, cheesy, and well topped. My patty melt really hit the spot for me, and everyone in my party loved their burgers/chicken. My husband had his eye on the banana pepper app, which was fried up perfectly and served with some delicious ranch for dipping. Our waitress made sure we had everything we needed, and service was quick. This definitely won't be our last trip to New State!

Yelp
Tbh the place is mid at best. When I called before going, the new girl on the phone was really nice. The fried banana peppers were super unique and fun to try. Thankfully they had a good patio and location to make the night worth while.

Yelp
Fun & laid back atmosphere in this small burger joint located in the Plaza district in OKC. We decided to try New State burgers while in Oklahoma City based solely on their Instagram pics- lol! We opted to sit at the bar which seems to have a nice cocktail/beer selection. The Mozzarella sticks were epic and the marinara - delish! I would rate the burgers as very average in size but tasty. The fries and tots compare to anywhere in town. Quaint spot with friendly service.

Yelp
The experience at New State just gets better with age. New State has become a staple in The Plaza. Come for the burgers and beer and stay for the cozy atmosphere and great service. We accidentally got rung in for their New State Theta burger and couldn't have been more delighted. That burger is one of the most delicious burgers in the metro. Round it out with some fries (sweet potato or regular, both are a triumph) and the experience is crave-able. If you enjoy fried okra, theirs is second to none. We'll be back. Sooner than later, hopefully. February 2023

Yelp
One of the best burger joints around okc. Perfect lunch spot when walking around the Plaza district. Try the friend banana peppers, they are very flavorful and a nice appetizer before your burger. They have a nice little front patio to sit and enjoy your food outside on the Plaza as well! Delish!

Yelp
I had no expectations going in, but I walked out genuinely happy that we had randomly decided to stop at New State Burgers & Spirits (NS B&S) for dinner. So here's my beef (heh) with most of the burgers in town: 'round these parts, they generally tend to be the onion burger variety (which isn't bad, but more on that in a bit), or the gastropub variety. In the case of gastropub burgers, there isn't a decent gastropub in town, regardless of what other people tell you (if you know otherwise, be sure to tell me of the great local gastropub burger you've had, and I'll go try it, and then tell you how disappointing it was). In the case of onion burgers, there's a time and a place for them, but sometimes you want something... meaty... And an onion burger isn't meaty. Unless you get like... a double or a triple, and then... it's almost too meaty? I dunno, it's hard to explain. But NS B&S's "The Cheeseburger" was two-patty perfection (or nearly there). NS B&S's cheeseburger was probably one of the best burgers I've had in OKC in quite some time. It was a hot, juicy, flavorful, greasy (in that good way, not the "my heart is hurting" way), meaty, but not-too-meaty burger. The only other (local) burger that I've enjoyed as much recently is probably MOB Grill. We got a side of fries too. They were good. But small as far as $3 side goes. We also got a couple cocktails. I'm blankin' on what it's called, but it was delightful; strong (enough) with flavors that I enjoyed at the time, but I can't for the life of me remember what they were now. Something with Grapefruit or a flower in it? The only knock (but not enough of a knock for me to drop a star) was that it wasn't cheap: 2 Cheeseburgers + 2 Cocktails + 1 Side + Tax/Tip = $57.00. So if you're thinking of this place as a date night option, the menu prices don't match the vibe of the restaurant (not necessarily a problem, unless your guy/girl is bougie). Service was friendly though, and I was able to pay using Toast (which was nifty). The name checks out. For both the burgers and the spirits. Edit: HIBISCUS PALOMA! That was the cocktail. Thanks, Toast for the email receipt.

Melinda I.

Yelp
We both got classic onion burger off the happy hour menu and it was very good and plenty of food for me. Only yuck was it had mayo on it loved the fried banana peppers. Only thing we didn't like was sweet potato fries were covered in sugar and cinnamon and definitely not expected. Probably should state on menu. They were not ideal side for a burger. Service was great!
google avatar

Christian M.

Yelp
Hands down, best burger in OKC. The classic with grilled jalapeños is a MUST! Great atmosphere with friendly service. I aclready can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and order the fried banana peppers! These are one of the best appetizers we've had at a burger establishment. Drinks were great and service was speedy and friendly!
google avatar

Andrew T.

Yelp
New State may be my favorite burger spot in the city. Vibes are strong. Music is good. Drinks are delightful and service is great. The burgers are double thin patties cooked well. The meat is excellent and I enjoyed the sauce and cheese. The pickles and onions are diced which works well. I'll be back again soon!

Yelp
First time here based on a friend's recommendation. I owe him a big thank you! Rock solid burger. Had the New State cheeseburger. Very good. Different with the combo chopped onion / pickle/ dijonaise dressing. Was pleasantly surprised. Will be making a return trip for the Hot Hamburger. What's not to like about Texas Toast, burger and brown gravy. Laken was our waitress. She took great care of us. Never had to look up and ask for anything. Plus super cool. Besides getting a burger this is a nice place to hang. Small. Quaint. But not so loud that you can have a convo with friends at your table. Put this on your burger to do list.

Brad S.

Yelp
This place has kind of a speakeasy feel as it's a smaller intimate place. I got a bbq burger that had great flavor and great price. The bartender was very nice to talk with.
google avatar

Cole D.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing burger and tots!!! I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a solid burger.
google avatar

Madison T.

Yelp
There wasn't one thing I disliked about the menu. First time here and wanted to try it aaaaallll. Didn't realize the cheese burger was a double so that was pretty filling. Also, Kinda reminded me of an upscale McDouble. I think the best thing I tried though were the Brussels. The bartender/waitress was super kind and attentive. Great teamwork between the staff. Will definitely be back
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious! Delicious! Delicious!!! Service was phenomenal! Some of the best wait staff I've ever experienced! Just a really great location and facility! Good place to have a meal on a patio or sit up at the bar. Kid friendly! Highly recommend!

Yelp
If you've been to Au Cheval in Chicago, you'll immediately see what New State is attempting to replicate with their burgers. Au Cheval is known for their simple menu, decadent burgers, quality ingredients, and thick cut bacon. New State basically does all this but just barely misses the mark in regards to creating an all-time favorite kind of burger (at least for me, anyways - ymmv). That's not to say I wouldn't want to come back. I plan on it eventually but, maybe not for a while because, as much as I enjoyed the burger, I didn't leave New State thinking to myself, " Man I'm glad I paid $17+ for that burger and fries just now". The burger meat itself is tasty, if slightly too greasy. And not in a luxurious/rich kind of way, just pore-opening greasy with an overload of American cheese. The thicc bacon was also kind of a flop, literally; super flabby and soft, not a ton of crispiness, and not very flavorful. Outside of that, I enjoyed the burger and fries well enough. It's really the pricing, and probably my own biases towards Au Cheval, that leave me constantly (and unfairly) comparing burgers between two totally different places. I'd still recommend you give New State a shot at least once.
google avatar

Torri H.

Yelp
I had the Brunch burger with an extra patty and cheese tots. The burger was very good and hit the spot, but was on the small side. I wouldn't say it's the best burger in OKC but it holds its own. The bar peeps were more than happy to attempt making a drink I saw somewhere else and it turned out pretty darn well.

Chelsea S.

Yelp
This place is amazing and I rate it a five b/c the people here are very kind and the food tastes delicious so I rate place a big 5. :D The atmosphere is chill and makes you feel right at home. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Damn good burgers. I've had nothing but great service every time I've gone. Great vibe at lunch, dinner and happy hour.
google avatar

Yelp
If we lived nearby we would come all the freaking time. As son as we walked in it felt like a place we have to come to for years. It's small with a few tables and a bar. There are tables right outside, as well. The staff are super cool and friendly. The pretzel is the size of your head, hot, and it was gone in 60 seconds. I got the Hot Hamburger which was an open face double burger covered in fries and OH MY GRAVY. Oldest had the Theta smashed together with tots. Mini me had a regular burger and said this place was a "Definitely come again" place. The hubs said it was one of the best burger had in a long time. This place is bookmarked for us and a nice addition to the rotation!

Yelp
"This is a tasty burger!" I didn't even take a picture of it. I've been told a lot of places had great burgers, only to be disappointed, so why bother? I had heard mixed reviews, so I was a little skeptical when a friend told me how much he liked New State. I feel a little discomfort saying this, but I think New State's bacon cheeseburger may be the best non-onion burger burger that I've had in Oklahoma City. I had them hold the dijonnaise on mine and I'm glad I did. I think it would have thrown off what was a nicely balanced cheeseburger with bacon, red onions, pickles, lettuce and tomato. I'm normally not crazy about brioche buns either, but this one was a bit softer than most. The double patties were perfect. I like a hamburger patty that's cooked through with some char on the crust. They just had a good beefy flavor; not under- or over-seasoned. The bacon was crispy, but not closed to being burnt. The veggies hit all the right notes. I don't usually think of balanced flavors when I'm eating a burger, but everything came together so well bite after bite. The fries were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. And the Brussels sprouts... At best, I'm so-so on Brussels sprouts, but I got some because my wife likes them. Definitely some of the best I've had and they're right on the level of the ones they used to serve at KD's. I'm definitely coming back. And I'll be sure to take pictures next time.

Yelp
Seriously one of the best burgers in OKC! Eclectic atmosphere and service was great. Highly recommend this place. Have been back three times since first try. Consistently good!! Parking sucks but worth the hassle.
google avatar

Yelp
Simple burgers but very enjoyable and tasty. Pleasant service. The menu is small but they make it a point to serve quality food. The interior is small but it's a trendy spot and I'd recommend it for a good burger with no fuss.

Yelp
Our 1st night in OK city and we wanted to try a Tucker's "onion Burger" one of the iconic foods of Oklahoma. But ultimately - our laziness won out and we walked here from our AirBNB, as the burgers here came highly recommended. We split a burger - added the bacon, and a side of green beans (we are soooo healthy, lol). It was a fine burger, but the bacon was not as thick as the other Yelp photos show.

Yelp
During this whole covid lockdown i have used this time to explore new local restaurants and try out places offering great deals and also places I've been wanting to try. Our family ordered the bag of burger special which was 5 burgers for $19.99! Such an awesome deal for honestly one of the best burgers i think I've ever had in my life. They came with just pickles cheese and one condiment choice of your liking. They weren't greasy or soggy they were amazing and perfect. We also got two sides of fries and they were amazing had the best garlic seasoning on them. I could have ate the two packages just by myself probably! I've noticed that they offer tots also that people rave about. No one was allowed in dining area you just call in your order and they run it out to you. Even though we don't live anywhere near the plaza district this meal was definitely worth the drive. Will be returning! Thank you!

Yelp
Hmmm lots of burger options to choose in OKC. Although this wouldn't be my top choice it certainly is a solid one! Their burgers are rather simple which I appreciate. Nothing wrong with the burger really.. but I just didn't taste the "grill" taste if that makes sense. The taste of a 10 year old greasy grill that adds a distinct flavor. This is more just a personal opinion! Overall good burger, bar is cool, fries are not bad. Their ranch is good :)
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
Burgers done right! Absolutely delicious. Thin, juicy and cooked just right. The sweet potato fries were also amazing.

Kenneth G.

Yelp
Simply put I get my best Burger experience at New State! The New State Burger is the best to me I add crispy shallots and get a new mixed drink each time I go:) ask for Manny while your there to say Hi best server. If you go maybe try the fried brussel sprouts OThook!
google avatar

Yelp
Yes yes yes. Burger is amazing, chicken sandwich is to die for. Hands down, the second best burger spot in the city (after the Bar Alborada burger.)
google avatar

Yelp
Love love LOVE this place! It's smaller but I have never had to wait for a table. They have great drinks and amazing burgers with vegetarian options! This is always one of my go-to's.

Yelp
One of the best burgers I have ever had. Their dijonnaise with pickles and onions that they dress each burger with is divine.
