Chicago’s Best Korean Food

"Run, don’t walk, to Northbrook, a suburb full of great Korean restaurants along Milwaukee Avenue. The best might be New Village Gastro Pub, a palace to Korean baseball, karaoke, and marvelous food. The signature fried chicken can feed a big group, the rose tteokbokki is a feast with perfectly chewy noodles with an excellent sear. The seafood pancake is made better when accompanied by a beer poured out of a tableside beer tower or a glass of soju. The cooking at this pub is tremendous and worth the commute." - Ashok Selvam

Cozy little place. Just dark enough for a cute atmosphere with colored fairy lights and a projector playing K-pop. Friendly staff and delicious food. I ordered the beef dish from the top of the special menu (yum!) and an "oriental raisin" hot tea -- pretty sure it's red date (subtle flavor but warming amd lovely). Would order both again, but everything else also looked fantastic.

First things first, we had silkworm soup which the silkworm were chewy and bursted in your mouth along with the flavorful spices in the soup. Wash it down with some soju. I also loved the seafood pancakes, maybe I just am biased and like seafood pancakes in general for their crispy texture and this one had a fair amount of seafood. The market chicken was whole fried, came with salt and pepper, but I would’ve loved to see maybe some sort of soy garlic whole fried chicken, it’s one of my favorite flavors. If I’m at a Korean restaurant, I’m trying their bulgogi as a baseline for the experience and this bulgogi was top tier. Sweet and tender and should absolutely be in the conversation for top 3 bulgogi I’ve had. A unique dish that I haven’t tried yet anywhere else is the Sea Snail and Squid Muchim. I liked the chewy noodles and the sweet and spicy sauce binding the shellfish together. A dish they insisted we try is this Goporitang soup with flat noodles. It’s a soup with a whole chicken, intestines, veggies, scallions and potatoes bathing in a very aromatic spicy broth. When I smelled the soup even my nose tingled, but the soup is hearty and I can see the appeal of this being their most popular dish. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this place, great Korean spot in the north suburbs, and it’s open very late for that true pocha experience.

We stopped by this Korean restaurant while exploring the local Korean town area, and it did not disappoint! The location is surrounded by other great spots, but this one really stood out. We had the spicy chicken feet, soup, and whole fried chicken, paired with some beers and soju. The food was absolutely amazing – authentic flavors and generous portions! Everything was packed with spice and flavor, just the way we like it. We had a great time here and will definitely come back again. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a true Korean dining experience!

SPICY

A few times here and so consistent. I give a new village best Budae Jjigae in the area. It's not too salty and just right spicy, and everything else is so delicious.

Food was good and the tables have little buttons to call the waiter whenever you need anything. And they’re fast! All restaurants should adapt this

The food is always so good and seems quite authentic. The servers are always polite as well. It just gets so full during the evening that there's quite a long wait time and disorganization. Forewarning: the spicy chicken feet were definitely the spiciest thing I've had in my life! Not sure if it was just that day but now I'm scared 😭

Good place for mingling with your friends This place is quite busy most of the time. They don’t take reservations over the phone but you can make reservations on yelps or walking to make reservations at the tablet. There is a button somewhere at the table. Press the button to call a server. We did press the button 3 times within 20 mins until someone came to take our order. Food was good. Our favorite is spicy stir-fried pork with cheese. The price is reasonable.
