New Yen Ching Restaurant

The restaurant is decorated inside. Food was decent 3 star. The server was nice since we were the only ones there for the entire time. Hard-working people .

Came to try out a new place for use as we are settling into this town still. We didn’t even get to eat. I walked in with my toddler, was trying to settle him in and read the menu while he as any toddler had it in his hands before I could grab it, the server came to take my order less than a minute of us sitting. I ordered a few items as I planned to pack some to go, she took my order and came back immediately not enough time to get to kitchen or anywhere to let me know the kitchens gas no longer works it would be a wait, signaling they did not want to serve us. He wasn’t being loud or anything, I don’t get it. Then they seated someone else. We left.

Google
IMO, this is the best Chinese food in all of Stockton. They have the best pot stickers, hot and sour soup, hot and spicy green beans ( add prawns) and chow mein. I will stop here every time in town, it’s that good and the prices are very inexpensive.

Google
First time here. The place is nice and food was good. Not the best we have had but good. We ordered the family meal for three and it came with sizzling rice soup, pot stickers, steamed rice, Mongolian beef, house chicken and prawns.we also ordered a side of pork chow mein. The soup was great with lots of different textures (mushrooms, shrimp, chicken, veggies, water chestnuts). The Mongolian beef and house chicken were really good! Crispy, bit spicy and good flavor. The prawns one of us liked but the rest of us didn't care for it...too much sauce for our taste. The chow mein was ok, simple. Pot stickers were good, not great. The service was average. The place was getting a bit hot and there was no air conditioning. Overall it was good we might come back again, if our go to spot is closed like today. We would give it a 3.5 overall. Total price was over $70 not including tip.

Google
For the price this place is really skimping out on the servings. For each piece of meat I got maybe five raw onions chunks alongside it. They weren’t small one bite chunks either. I ordered the curry chicken, not a bowl of chopped raw onions. If I wanted that I’d just go to a grocery store, buy a couple onions and sprinkle curry powder and hot water on them. This is literally all onions.

Google
We ordered Dinner for two, our soup was delicious, followed with pot stickers then our fried rice, house chicken and Mongolian Beef. Food was plenty, fresh, very well seasoned, very pleasant meal. Enough for take home and we enjoyed the next day. Pleasant lil place, and now my favorite spot.

Google
The food is really good been there 3x’s already and they have been very nice. I recommend this place for family’s

Google
I got the lunch special #5, hot braised pork with vegetables and special hot sauce. The meal came with rice, two fried wonton skins, and a bowl of soup (in my case, it was hot and sour soup). The hot and sour soup was delicious and well-balanced in terms of spice and acidity with a nice ratio of ingredients. The braised pork was steamy and flavorful. The pork itself was a bit chewy, but not too bothersome. The crispy friend wonton skins are a nice addition. I do wish the rice portion was a bit bigger, it's around a handful. The staff were friendly and answered my question when I asked them what they'd recommend. However, they seemed a bit impatient. Overall, my experience was good, the food was great, and I'd return.

Yelp
Wonderfully authentic decor and color scheme, clean seating and tables, quiet, authentic music, good lighting - all before you get your food. Sweet and sour pork is perfectly seasoned. The mongolian beef wasn't spicy as advertised, but good flavor. My wife enjoyed her chicken chow mein. All freshly made entrees. Prices equitable to other restaurants. Good service. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Lynda M.

Yelp
Their hot & sour soup is my favorite. When I feel under the weather that's where I go. Their Mongolian beef is really delicious too! You have to give this place a try.

Linda R.

Yelp
take out order. had chicken chow mein and house chicken mild. chow mein was not as good as yen du's.. do not know what chow mein eas a bit spicy. never had spiciness in chow mein. house chicken has always been a family favorite. when in Stockton, yen du or yen Ching house chicken is onour table. another family favorite is the sizzling rice soup. braised pork also a plus.

Yelp
I have been going to Yen Ching for more than 30 years. The staff and the owners have always been great. Friendly helpful service where they have made me feel at home. The food is consistently good and I have never had a bad dish.

Yelp
Well, surrounded by high-end stores, you think it would be a pretty decent restaurant and you think they could at least clean the windows or the tables maybe run the air conditioner because it is still hot outside and now inside which is hot and humid! I had to ask to clean our table because it looked like it was wiped down with what seemed like a greasy McDonald's rag the way they wipe down the tables at the McDonald's Drive-in my kids told me dad don't make a scene so I told her can you please wipe down this greasy table no apology or nothing just wiped it down. It was still greasy. I said can I have some extra napkins now, please so I can dip my napkin in my glass of water and thoroughly clean the table. Trust me. I'm easily pleased. Just feed me good and I'll take care of you with a good tip. You could ask all the restaurants that I eat at we asked for kimchi it never showed up till after our plates of food showed up and my daughter said I don't wanna make a scene but I'm gonna ask for my kimchi when we got the kimchi. It was sweet and bland colored not impressed at all. OK let's talk about the food. We talked about the ambience which really took away the fun of eating there. The food was OK. My daughter said "it's like Yen Du', we came here because Yen Du' was on vacation. Boy were we disappointed, the food was subpar it was a decent portion, no more, no less than the competitors in the area. So I got my bill then the waiter comes and tells me we are already included the tip. I looked and I said OK thank you because I would've paid you a lot better tip and I wrote that on the receipt. Will I come here again? Probably not oh and plastic on the seats really? Supposed to be a kind of a nicer restaurant. Can we not do that?

Liz N.

Yelp
Food was sub par, the service was not attentive and the tip is already included on the tab which isn't right.. what if you don't deserve a tip? Anyways we asked for kimchi and it never came out until the end of our meal when we asked for it again. They also didn't refill any waters for my group. Food did come out relatively fast but other than that I won't come here again. Save for money and calories.

Yelp
Good food chow mein and sweet and sour pork and overall good experience was clean and nice however the staff who doesn't really speak English was really rude to a senior customer with an air tank. He said sternly "busy no no" she and her husband just barely walked in and he said it again and dismissed them. They said I guess we're not welcome here. It was so sad. No sorry, or anything shooed them away. I understand it's a busy holiday but the other staff could've interjected and assisted because they spoke English just fine. Poor service there.
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
Just had lunch there today. My wife is a chow mein snob. She was very happy with the chicken chow mein. I had the Special beef also very good. Service was attentive and helpful. Both items were on the special luncheon menu. Both were excellent and a great value for the price especially in today's economy. Very pleasant experience. Will be back soon.

Ruben S.

Yelp
We've been going to this restaurant for years, the food is always served hot and delicious, the service is prompt and the staff are always polite, the decor is warm and inviting. Totally recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Carly S.

Yelp
Service is mid at best. Hardly check on you and the wait in an empty restaurant was crazy our food took forever and we only ordered three things. The food was also not great it was just okay in my opinion. The garlic fried chicken lacked flavor. The chow mein was salty and the sweet and sour pork was way too sweet and very chewy. If I'm craving yen Ching style food I'm driving to Lodi they are way better
google avatar

Marcea D.

Yelp
The service and the food are always good. Never had a problem and the food is greatI would love to know how they keep their food HOT!!!

Nancy P.

Yelp
Food, service, price. I keep going back for more. Easy location, ample parking. Extensive menu, great choices.

Yelp
This is my Go-To-Chinese restaurant in Stockton. I typically don't care for restaurants in the Valley. One, because I'm a Bay Area girl. Two, because there aren't really any good restaurants. But when I'm craving Chinese, New Yen Ching hits the spot. The owner is always kind. And whether I order to go or come in for a family meal, the food is ALWAYS FRESH!!! I'll never go anywhere else in Stockton. New Yen Ching is the BEST!!!
google avatar

Heidi P.

Yelp
We stopped in for the lunch special for our first time today and WOW I wish we tried them sooner! Hot and sour soup had so much flavor and i don't usually enjoy it but they had such depth, it was delicious! I ordered the house chicken lunch special and my wife ordered the twice cooked pork! Both of them were SO delicious. The meat was tender, veggies still had a crunch and both sauces were flavorful and stood on their own! I honestly can't wait to try something else! The service is fast and she is so sweet and the restaurant itself is very clean!
google avatar

Marcella C.

Yelp
My family and I order from here at least twice a month! The food is delicious and always fresh! Our go to's are chow mein, fried rice, sweet and sour pork, orange chicken, Mongolian beef. Whenever we eat inside the service is always great and well attended. The food always comes out hot and they are always checking if you need anything. The restaurant isn't huge but it's decorated nicely and they have tables for larger parties. The prices are amazing and something you can't beat! I recommend the lunch menu great value!
google avatar

Charla M.

Yelp
My bf and I go here at least once a month. It's always hot and delicious. I don't think I've had anything bad here. My only complaint is table cloths have stains on some tables and bathroom could use a major upgrade. But this is def one of my favorite Chinese food spot in Stockton.
google avatar

Lois H.

Yelp
This is my default Chinese food place in Stockton. My favs are any of their fried rice, chow mein dishes, sizzling rice soup, wonton soups and vegetable deluxe entree. They've good for past 10 years!
google avatar

K K.

Yelp
Restaurant is decorated inside. Table cloths were dirty. Food was decent 3 star. Server was nice since we were the only customers entire time.
google avatar

Andre S.

Yelp
I brought shrimp fried rice for $15. I only 6 shrimps in my fried rice. It was a order of shrimp fried rice. The rice is very dry and I asked for fried and look like just plain white rice.

Yelp
BEWARE THEY CLOSE AT 7pm YOU WILL BE TURNED AWAY IF YOU TRY TO ORDER OR TRY TO BE SEATED. We forget why we don't go here and then quickly are reminded why we don't give this place our business. Foods decent but you better show up at 4pm or 5pm. We have seen many families be turned away at 7:15pm, 7:25pm and so forth. TO THE OWNER: We completely understand wanting to get home, so all we ask is you follow YOUR ADVERTISED HOURS. Of course there is the chance you do change your closing hours and still follow your bad business practice. Orders should still be taken until 8pm and 7:30pm is still your regular OPEN business hour. We really wanted to like this place, but we'll pass.
google avatar

Angel L.

Yelp
Had a family lunch of 11and the service was super quick and the server attended to our needs. The ambience was really nice. Didn't have to wait at all to get seated. The food was really good would highly recommend the deep fried asparagus, The fried chicken would definitely go back and try the Duck since they didn't have it.
google avatar

Kayla D.

Yelp
The food was AMAZING! I'm disappointed in myself for not knowing this sooner. I frequent this shopping area at least once a week. I've seen this place but never thought to go in. Well I'm glad I did. I got three lunch plates to go, the Mongolian beef, house chicken and kung pao chicken. Everything was delicious the beef was super tender and well seasoned, the house chicken was crunchy and lightly sauced to the point where it wasn't over bearing and drowning the meat. It was perfect! The kung pao chicken was tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. I've definitely found my new go to spot. It was reasonably portioned and the quality was spot on for me. I usually go to Yen Du but this is closer to me and better.

Gina Ann D.

Yelp
Our absolutely go to lunch place! We love this place and food is ALWAYS awesome!! Service is great and love the authentic decor. Feels very comfortable and prices are great, especially lunch specials.

Carolyn Y.

Yelp
Every time we've been good is delicious , fresh , fast , good price , service and easy parking . Love the crispy Win tons and the Won ton Chicken soup is my GO TO if I don't feel great

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this place for some time now and today I finally did. The food was very good, I can't wait to come back. Next time I'll be sure to get pictures of the dishes. Recommended: Sizzling Rice Soup House Chicken and the potstickers, all tasted fresh and delicious. The ambiance is nice and serene pair that with some good food and it makes for a perfect low-key date.

Yelp
LOVE there Beef Chow Mein, legit the best Ive tried. This is a small family based restaurant that has been in stockton for Years, the hospitality is nice/quick, short and fast meal but not at all rushed. I am a returning customer - Why 5 Stars? I call these hidden gems! because the food is great, the price is reasonable, the area is safe, the customer service is good! Cant really go wrong there lol :)

Eddy X.

Yelp
You will always get the most delicious meal here. Where you take out or dine inside. You will not be disappointed. The sweet and sour pork is lean & tender. Perfectly made. Mongolian beef is tender, perfectly spicy flavor so delicious. The veggies are always cooked wonderfully. You better go here if you want some really GREAT FOOD. You're welcome.

Yelp
I've eaten at this restaurant numerous times. Food is always fresh and hot. Service is always perfect. The decor tops it off. I will definitely keep coming here.

Yelp
Customer service is great! I've been going for yrs and they always remember to ask about my co workers and family! The food is simple amazing. It's definitely great food, especially the house chicken (hot braised). The better deals are lunch deals with great sized plates.

K G.

Yelp
Good food, great value, very nice servers. We go there at least once a month for the dinner for 2.
google avatar

Yelp
I hadn't been here for a minute and tonight I was reminded why...I'm bummed to say it but I've been disappointed on my last couple of visits. I ordered takeout for dinner-house chicken, steamed rice and pot stickers. The pot stickers were great and easily the best part of the meal. However, the steamed rice and house chicken were unimpressive. I know, how can you screw up steamed rice, right? But it wasn't even warm and didn't seem fresh. The house chicken also didn't seem fresh but rather like it had been sitting for awhile, was kind of dry and it just didn't taste the same as it has in the past. It's not as though they were busy either because it was almost empty when we ordered our food. Service was friendly enough but their food just doesn't do it for me anymore. Suggestions anyone???
google avatar

Jenny B.

Yelp
We came here for my birthday celebration with my dad and my sister and my husband and son. My 13-year-old doesn't really eat a variety of food but he tried the house chicken and he liked it a lot! So the next time we go he can have his own lunch. The garlic boneless garlic chicken is awesome! We had leftovers to take home. Always a good choice! We've been coming here for years. Always hot and fresh and great service.

LaTasha J.

Yelp
The food is descent. When I ordered the restaurant was out of RICE, imagine that. I settled for chow mein. I spent $30 on this order to go. You decide if it's worth it...

Yelp
I don't frequent this spot, not because I don't like them but bc my loyalties are with Yen Du (or Sherman's for my cheap go-to Chinese food). Came here with my mom to come try it again after it had been years since I had been. They renovated the place with new floors and I believe new deco which was all nice and clean. Food: Beef broccoli - good meat and pretty tasty. Broccoli wasn't soggy which I appreciate. Chow Marin - quality ingredients there but lacking in flavor. Kind of bland to me. House chicken - would definitely come back for it. Nice chunks of chicken. Yes, there were small pieces but not tons. Flavor? Real good. I told my mom I think I liked it better than Yen Du and she said she was thinking the same thing. Sorry Yen Du but I gotta be honest! I may not frequent this restaurant but I would order the house chicken with just white rice if I'm in the mood bc I did enjoy it that much.
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
I've eaten here many times and always have been happy with their food. My favorite is the Prawns ala Yen Ching. Served with rice and soup for a weekday lunch is perfect.
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Great service and delicious Chinese food. The Mongolian Beef is my favorite. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
The best Chinese food in Stockton! They are always quick and friendly. The house chicken is my favorite, but the fried rice is fabulous!

Yelp
I could come up with a really good story about my experience at this restaurant. I could talk about all the shoppers or the car that was illegally parked in a handicap parking spot. We even got to watch the police ticket the vehicle. However, no creative writing can do justice to this fine establishment. I have eaten Mongolian beef at every Chinese restaurant I've ever been at in my life. This restaurant has some of the best Mongolian beef I've ever eaten. We also had Mushu chicken, if I spelled it right. It looks like chicken and vegetables and scrambled eggs inside of a pancake. I've never had it before. It was so good. We also had potstickers and wonton soup. Everything was perfect. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated with a great Asian ambience. The waiter was friendly and accommodating and extremely professional. He even took the time to chat with us a little bit about life in Stockton. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want great Chinese food. I have eaten here over the years many times. I am never disappointed with either the food, the ambience or the staff. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. By the way, the prices are extremely reasonable. And they have takeout. What more could you want?

Ruben S.

Yelp
Lunch specials is absolute fantastic, the restaurant is always clean, the servers are polite & the food is fresh, hot and delicious. Our favorite is the house chicken and Mongolia beef.
google avatar

Irene M.

Yelp
I've been frequenting this restaurant for at least 15 years maybe 20. My favorite has always been their Mongolian beef. Recently I placed a large order of the Mongolian Beef. 4 large to be exact. As soon as we got home we instantly smelled the beef was sour. I immediately called the restaurant but I guess they closed early. I called back the next day then two more times with no call back. Finally I reached them today and a man named Mike told me that he heard about the situation. But never called me back? He asked me if I'd accept a credit instead of a refund and I said fine. Whatever at this point. But honestly after being served rotten meat I won't eat here again. I often cook and I know the smell of fresh meat and I also know when meat goes sour. They definitely served us old meat. Instead of apologizing he continued telling me that he wanted to inspect the 5 day old meat now that I've been holding onto. I said, " you want me to bring this in? It stinks bad? ". He said yes. I couldn't stomach riding with that stench in my new car so I'm cutting my loses and leaving this honest review of terrible customer service and I'm very sure some health code violations. Eat here at your own risk. PreCovid they were a very nice establishment. It has not been the same since. Customer health and satisfaction is clearly not number one to this business. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars at this restaurant and have taken uncountable clients here. No more. There loss.

R B.

Yelp
8/31 ordered chix fried rice (plain simple few pieces of meat). Kung pao chix (ok very few pcs of what looked like meat). The WORST was mu shu pork. Now the menu says made with eggs. But the whole thing was eggs, eggs, eggs. You need a microscope to find the other ingredients. If you like scrambled eggs this is for you. The meal was not good or enjoyable. Oh yeah, the plum sauce for the mu shu was watered down. Yes thinner than syrup used for pancakes. I am still disgusted as I write this. You've been warned. Never going back.

D V.

Yelp
This place is pretty good. I do believe it might be the best Chinese food in town (to us). We usually dine in and the service is always quick. The inside is nice and it seems clean. Nothing too fancy about this place tho. But it is good food and we almost always enjoy dining here. We usually just get basic chow mein, fried rice and his sweet and sour chicken. The batter is a little too think for my own personal preference on the walnut prawns. My husband thinks it's a little hit and miss but you should just try for yourself. I originally had 4 stars but with his comment, I defer to 3, cuz he's right (but shhhh, don't tell him I said that).

Victoria J.

Yelp
The only reason I'm giving this place a 2 is because their wings were perfect and crunchy but is lacked flavor! There wasn't even salt on these wings. We ordered pork fried rice and pork chow-mane with spicy pork, non of it but had flavor. Everything tasted boiled and bland. The pork was super soft and spongy and the pork on the rice looked like boiled chicken. Never coming here again.
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Food is okay. Restaurant is clean and waiter speaks English. We had: MUSHU PRAWNS W/ PANCAKES: Interesting! I'd order this one just for fun. EGGPLANT: I like my food on the salty side, but you need to have this with rice to balance the saltiness. It would be more tasteful if it came with tofu. MONGOLIAN BEEF: Good, but nothing special. BEEF CHOW MEIN: Should have gotten pork because the beef tasted the same as the Mongolian beef. CASHEW NUT CHICKEN: I liked the cashews mixed with the chicken. Probably my favorite out of the dishes. Peking Duck needs a 24-hour notice. Prices aren't bad either. I think China Palace or Dave Wong's are better alternatives in Stockton.

Tim E.

Yelp
There should be a way to tip the cook! Because the cook in the back, that you don't even see, deserves a lot of credit for he did a wonderful job making the food taste like Chinese food. And you didn't even have to wait very long for it to be prepared that's amazing! If you want Chinese food that tastes like Chinese food then you need to visit New Yen Ching! My wife and I went there after attending church @10:00 am Calvary Chapel of Stockton for lunch and had a wonderful time eating fabulous tasting Chinese food. There was only one waiter doing all the serving, cashiering and to go orders and removing the dirty dishes and cleaning the tables but he did an excellent job very hard worker! My wife and I went on a Sunday afternoon in September 2022
google avatar

Jeanette T.

Yelp
Arrived hungry but quickly disappointed. No chicken breast for dishes unless you order lemon chicken. I won't be coming back here unless the lemon chicken is outstanding. If they don't serve chicken breast I won't eat the dish. Yes I limit myself but this is my personal preference. Next knock soda in a can instead of fountain drink, which means no free refills. :( Sweet m sour soup was served hot and more sour than sweet, but good. Ordered Chinese chicken salad, lemon chicken, fried rice, chow mien and house chow fun. But sadly I won't be coming back here, the lemon chicken was not amazingly awesome enough to come back just for that. Service was good, fast and checked on us, quick with refills. The food; fried rice was tasty the chow mien was flavorful the chicken salad had a nice dressing but could have used some nuts and mandarin orange. Just no chicken breast for their meals

Yelp
Grate food and service ! The vegetables are well flavored. We return to have the Hot and Sout soup. Don and Cyndy
