Over the past few months I've been trekking up (really just walking and sometimes running) from Sunnyside on Saturday mornings to get my bagel fix in. For the past many-a-times, it ended up being Brooklyn Bagel as that was the first bagel place. However, this past weekend the line around 11am was out the door and didn't feel like waiting 15-20 minutes, potentially in brisk weather, outside for bagels. Therefore, I trekked down here.
Living in Astoria between 2017-18, I was always wondering what would come up as the commercial space beneath the Astor Broadway apartments. I was delighted to see this bagel shop open up last year, but never bothered to come till now because either the subways were not running on the weekend (facts) or worse off the subway station itself was closed.
So lo and behold, I made it here. Unlike Brooklyn Bagel (which I still love), the lines don't extend out the door because the space itself is huge. Tons of seating and tons of room for lines to form. This particular morning, the line wasn't terribly long so it moved quickly. Very organized, efficient, and a few cashiers to expedite the long lines.
I ordered my traditional egg and cheddar on an everything bagel. I've mixed in the mini everything recently, but those weren't available when I was in line and didn't feel like waiting very long for them to come out.
Surprisingly, the bagel came out quickly. Waited maybe less than a couple minutes. I was pleased. The bagel itself tasted pretty damn good too. Good job!
Like I said, there's plenty of space to sit here if you like. It was pretty full when I was there, but the people shift in and out. The bagel is $5, but you gotta expect it'll be somewhere between $4-5 anywhere from here to even in NJ where I grew up at.
I do recommend coming here (especially if Brooklyn Bagel's lines are out the door)
