"New Yorkers Foodmarket, a longstanding grocery store located at 107 Second Avenue, between Sixth Street and Seventh Street in the East Village, has closed. The owner, Michael Schumacher, decided to close the business due to slow sales and new competitors in the neighborhood, such as the new Wegmans. The market had been operating under different names since 1987, when Schumacher and his brother purchased the store." - Luke Fortney

In the middle of the Ukrainian Village is this family owned supermarket offering high quality food items at very reasonable cost. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and they deliver to the East Village. They are located near NYU and are known for their delicious Roast beef sandwich, and don't forget the Carrot and raisin salad.

An absolute dump. One positive thing I could say is, they have a decent selection of cheeses; and belobe you me I am being extremely generous here.

My family and I have shopped at this supermarket for over 30 years. The owner is truly dedicated to the community and treats his customers like family. The store is well-run and provides high quality, very local service, including quick efficient delivery up east village walk-ups. The staff are courteous and helpful. Many of the staff are very long-term employees, a clear testament to the owner’s fair treatment. We need to be supportive of our local businesses to keep the services and warmth of spirit that define the East Village.

I’ve been going to this market for years and yes, it is overpriced, but it’s New York, it’s going to be, it’s clean and convenient for me so I still go. However their staff is unfriendly, especially the guy with brown hair, he seems like he might be an owner. Just unfriendly. It makes shopping there just uncomfortable. I’ve seen him behave in a rude manner to many of his customers before and it’s really off putting. I’d rather take the walk down to another grocery store if I have the time. Their doors to get into the market are also always broken, or move so slowly it’s borderline comical. With all of the extra money they’re making from charging what they charge they should make it a priority to fix their doors. It’s literally the first impression of the store. Then they need to fix the owners attitude, look how they respond to reviews on here. It’s unfriendly and rude.

It is a good store, prices are in the medius to higher end probably due to the rent in the area. It is my go to place to fill in a missing ingredient or a quick snack. For a full set of groceries Wholefoods is still more competitive. It is yet clean and prices are well labeled. Staff are friendly but I wish the credit system did not need signature.

Google
Glorious. We bought a dozen of the prepared packaged foods, they are all really good. The Carrot & Raisin salad is the best thing I've tasted this year. I actually went back the next day and bought all the Carrot & Raisin salad they had left. Update: This place is wheelchair-accessible, and: They deliver! Our groceries were delivered shortly after we'd arrived home, and we'd taken a cab!

Google
Been shopping here for a year now and it's honestly a hit and miss for perticular items. It has location as it's very convenient compared to the nearest markets, they have a decently large selection of your grocery needs, cleaning supplies, decent deli etc. Be sure to check the food you buy as sometimes i've gotten bad vegetables and fruit, or dusty close to expired cans etc more than a few times unfortunately. Prices are equal or higher than average. They have a good roasted chicken for $7 you can't beat, and sometimes they close earlier than advertised. Staff are friendly and helpful. $5 Card, Visa, Debit, Credit, minimum.

Google
It's a complete rip-off, I bought 3 cans of Le Croix (just sparkling water with a hint of fruit extract) and it was 12 dollar! A single can is at whole foods for example around a dollar. A 12 pack around 6 dollar. And on the can there were a 30 cent deposit but you just get back 5, they couldn't explain me why. I am not an American so I didn't knew about the product and pricing but I learned it is way cheaper in other stores. So I don't trust this store...

Yelp
Every single produce, and even canned good item is expired. Just bought a few canned goods in September 2023 and all of the expiration dates say March or earlier. Produce section is mostly soggy fruits and vegetables that are beyond using.

Susan K.

Yelp
The owner Michael really cares about the people in neighborhood. Prices are reasonable and there is always a decent selection of all the basics. Fresh vegetables; chicken; fish; pasta; dairy; breads; soups; deli; sodas; coffee; tea; waters The prepared food is really good. Bell and Evans roast chicken pieces and the thin cut potatoes are the perfect heat up in the oven meal. Homemade taste and easy.

Yelp
I've been going here specifically for their deli sandwiches. Find me a sandwich in east village for $8 that is this big! Also the bread is fresh so it's not your typical store bought sub.

Yelp
This was formerly Met Foods, and before that--I found out too late--the legendary Ratner's restaurant. (In the vestibule, you can still see some colorful, gold-leafed mosaic tiles from those days.) This grocery store stocks the staples--sugar, flour, coffee, tea--as well as full meat and dairy sections. Produce is standard fare, and I'm not sure if they carry organic vegetables. There are very limited vegan options--but hey, Oreos are vegan--and I honestly have never bought produce here. It's good in a pinch, although I have to admit there are better supermarkets closer to where I live.

Yelp
I needed lunch today to bring to my volunteer assignment nearby but I didn't want to wait to get food cooked or heated up. I saw this and hoped they had some prepared salads or cut up fruit or something. I saw they had some pasta salads and some food that would need heating up which wouldn't be a problem. I selected a beef and macaroni. It was about 12 ounces and costs a little less than $4.50 which is a decent price for a light lunch in Manhattan. The place looked clean from what I saw which wasn't much.

Enki Z.

Yelp
Love this market since I finally found the chia seed that I really want to buy at there.

Yelp
Formerly Mets food This market is formerly Mets food market, Mets food market closed down and right after news Yorkers food market opens Basically nothing has changed inside is same some decoration has been changed. Most prices are same. Only they ad some more inventory to their list. Like organic milk and eggs added to the list. Now you can find it in their shelves at the dairy department. Also some more groceries added to the shelves. East village is a market place for all so this is another market just same for the people to shop their groceries

Yelp
"BECAUSE THAT'S THE WAY IT IS!!!" That's what Nadia the manager snapped when I asked why she's scolding me to do something that absolutely no one does and no sign is posted telling customers to do what she's scolding me about. I was exchanging one item for a slightly more expensive similar item. She scowled at me and said I was "...SUPPOSED TO LEAVE THE OLD ONE AT THE CASHIER WHILE I GET THE NEW ONE". Honestly, what customer returning something ever does that? And who freaks out about that sort of nonsense? A bloody rude person, that's who, Nadia.

Yelp
I loved this place far, far more when it was Ratner's, back in the Fillmore East Days...oh, the strawberry shortcake! The chocolate cream pie! You younglings don't know what you missed. Then, when it was Met Foods, I never went there except in desperation, because the place never smelled or felt clean. And even then I bought only water or soda. Now it's all glitzed up, with hot and cold prepared food cases and everything. Much cleaner and neater. Yet I still buy only water and soda, and sometimes ice cream and chocolate pudding and red potatoes. The selection is still meh, I would not buy meat or fish here if I were starving, the prepared food is totally unappetizing and yes, the automatic doors are the Slowest in the World. You literally have to STOP in front of them for the damn things to open. And they never have the A&W cream soda I like. I have to go to Associated or even Duane Reade to get that. I hope you read this, stupid pretentiously renamed New Yorker market. You're still Metfoods to me.

Elena H.

Yelp
This is store is very expensive for the quality. I bought a quart of milk today and it tasted expired, had to toss immediately. Unless they change their practices, I will not come back.

Johanna M.

Yelp
They finally hired a nice and polite cashier and I come here today with my toddler. I got offered a bag and the owner starts ranting off about how she shouldn't give the clients options that "they" never use it anyways! She understands that we are in the middle of a storm and I am carrying my $8 overpriced sparkling water together with a 2 year old and the less she could offer is that. I get it there is a lot of pressure from covid, bills to pay! But treating bad your very few nice employees in front of customer is not very clever. The only reason I walked In is because it snows I rather buy everything at WSM. I still want to support local business but I will not have to encounter this behavior. Ugh lady in the register I am sorry

Yelp
Their Sandwiches are the bomb!! Seriously! Sandwich King of the East Village in my true opinion.. They customize too.

Amanda P.

Yelp
Love this store ! Friendly small town feel to it and it looks nice and has just what I need . Fast checkout and family owned . Doesn't have weird smell like Key Food

Jean S.

Yelp
New Yorkers Foodmarket is a great supermarket. Not only do they sell organic food, but they also have excellent takeout in the deli section. Customer service is helpful and friendly.

Olivia C.

Yelp
Normally wouldn't leave a review for a supermarket but this place has delicious prepared foods and at such great value! The turkey sandwich is huge and lasts me two meals ally or $7! Love the "Michael's salad" which is grilled chicken, mozzarella, spinach and baby tomatoes. the cashiers are always nice and the aisles are very clean and they have an excellent coconut water selection. The weekly specials are a great deal and they are open late!

George C.

Yelp
Larger than you'd expect, but with an unfortunate, noxious chlorine odor and the slowest automatic doors in the grocery game.

Adam F.

Yelp
Big space but weird selection of items. Produce and deli do not look super fresh. May be a bit cheaper than Westside market on third Avenue but not worth a special trip.

Mercedes P.

Yelp
I live not even a block away and used to come here frequently. It's what you would expect for a city grocery store - overpriced and mediocre quality, but that's all we have here. However, I stopped on my way home from work to get milk and they wouldn't sell to me because all I had was debit. They refused to sell me a gallon of MILK with a debit card because the transaction was under $5 (which isn't posted anywhere). Unbelievable, and I won't ever be returning back.

Zach T.

Yelp
This store works for some items but not others. I've picked up meat and had it covered in icky meat juice, and most of the crackers and cookies I've gotten here have been broken like they were handled roughly. Now I just use these guys for hard-to-screw-up items like beer, dry pasta, and canned goods. For anything that requires much care, I go elsewhere. Other annoyances that I'd look past if they had their act together: no Amex accepted, items not placed by the correct price tags, and frequently non-working automatic doors.

Paige H.

Yelp
A fine selection, but overpriced and the prepared foods were not recently prepared. A great spot for necessities, but wouldn't be my go to spot.

Amy S.

Yelp
Convenient little grocery to pick up the necessities when you don't have time to go to Trader Joe's. I often buy bananas here, and they are very good! Also - no card minimum, which is nice.

Margaret B.

Yelp
Love this grocery store. Good prices. Try the deli's Lasagna! Fabulous!

Sheryl H.

Yelp
Very rude managment especially Nadia how are the cashiers friendlier than the owners the reason why i gave it 2 stars is because the music is great in here other than that no
