This is one of the best places in Eugene Oregon to get fresh fish hands down!!! Always the same consistency always fresh oil, the food is delicious!! I suggest the rock called basket with french fries side of shrimp and deep fried pickles it won't disappoint!!! Superfresh and crispy tender and juicy, It's attached to a cannery store where you can purchase fresh fish with lots of homemade canned goods and sides to choose from. I loved the homemade raw honey and peach jam, we drove 45 minutes just to eat here. The atmosphere is very nice and the service is always outstanding 😀 our favorite place 🩷😋

Excellent Cod Fosh and Chips! Not beer batter, not oily, just perfect. Fries were also exceptional. Everything fresh, fast and made to order.

I had lunch with out of state clients, and they loved it. The coconut shrimp is the best. I also love their cole slaw, and they have stepped up their chips game over the years. They're crispy now, not mushy. Everything they serve is delicious. I think I know what I'm having for dinner tonight.

The welcome was wonderful from the staff at the takeaway counter. I came to Eugene from Washington DC for work and was craving fish and chips. They did not disappoint! The staff was 100% wonderful; I have no words to describe how great they were. I had the halibut fish and chips, and it was delicious. I walked from the Graduate Eugene hotel, a good 17-minute walk, but any tiredness disappeared after enjoying that amazing meal. Good prices for fresh sea food.

The only reason it’s not 5 stars is because I can’t find a way for it to be delivered. Other than that it is very good! Orders come out hot, not overcooked and fresh looking. It always smells and tastes great. I’ve never tried anything other than the halibut fish n chips. Enjoy, I highly recommend Newmans Seafood.

I want people to understand the standards a little more. It's just that the temperature is too high to make it chirpy, or the oil is too wet in the fish, so it doesn't taste very good, but I don't understand how to buy it in line. I gave you two stars because I think the price is reasonable. If someone want to have right fish & chips I can tell this is not right place .

Love this place, a huge selection of fresh fish and shellfish. The little kitchen makes some great fish & chips, and some delicious fried pickles. A must visit!

Been here many times for a fish and chip lunch and it's always delicious! I recently went in to get some fresh seafood for my 4th of July party and the staff was extremely nice and helped me pick out the seafood that would work best with my seafood boil. Highly recommend!

This was my first time to Newman's with the recommendation of both our van driver and a coworker who resides in Eugene. It will not be my last for certain. Both said Newmans had the best fish and chips. I decided before I went I was getting the Halibut and chips because it's something I always got in Anchorage and missed. Upon arriving I saw they had Halibut cheeks and chips as one of their specials. Cheeks are usually a local secret. Found them once in a restaurant in Anchorage. The man taking orders said they had some Cajun spice in the coating which completely sold me on getting them. Boy they did not disappoint! They were crispy, hot (temperature not spice) and delicious to the last bite along with the fries. I also ordered the Sweet Chili Shrimp salad, intending to eat it latter. After one bit to try it I couldn't stop. It's a blend of purple and green cabbage slaw with tiny bay shrimp and a sweet chili sauce on top. Very causal dining here, place your order at the window, eat in a covered open outdoor area. In the 20min I was there a man came out to empty the trash and wiped dirty tables and the counter against the wall. Parking is limited, so if busy would suggest you phone in your order and get it to go.

I went there for a first time experience. I like the location, and the little outside eating area. I also enjoyed the fries, however, I did not like the breading of the fish. Seemed kind of gritty. Also one of the pieces was wet with oil? I would like to try them again eventually, and get something else.

For take out fish and chips, Newman's is awesome. The fish is always cooked perfectly and is flaky like it should be. I happen to like their Cole slaw too. The fries are not the best, but I am not reducing my rating of them because I love their fish so much. I will say, fish and chips is subjective, and you may not like their style (it's not tempura), so try it out and see for yourself.

Eugene landmark that has the best fish and chips around . The fish is battered with a perfect amount of bread and it's not greasy. The clam chowder is spectacular. Love this place and a must when in Eugene. The service couldn't be more on point . Friendly , helpful and knowledgeable about fish. The place is clean and the outdoor seating is perfect .

Another great visit! Ordering is quick and easy. Menu is displayed well. Lots of delicious options and specials offered. Fish always tastes fresh and flavorful. Very cozy and open spread out seating inside. Endless options of fish, seafood, cheese, oils, seasoning, pasta, wine, bread.. you name it they have it here for your pairing needs. I definitely need to come back and get some crab cakes and other options to take home next time. The staff seems well educated and kind. They even have recipe cards printed out on the counter for ideas. So smart. Our lunch was truly delicious and so filling! Cod fish & chips, Cajun shrimp, sauces. All so delicious!!

The best meal I had in Eugene and surely the best fish & chips I have had anywhere, this place is amazing! It was a lovely June day in Eugene that called for some fresh seafood and Newman's delivered. I got the Halibut Fish & Chips along with some fried shrimp and the sweet chili shrimp salad. It all was amazing, and the guys working the counter were great! I will surely go back if I am ever in Eugene, this is a cant miss spot!

We were in Eugene for a doctors appointment and we came here because of the Rating. We were expecting a great seafood lunch and we got the opposite! Our Halibut basket was served to us and our first bite was into the halibut and it was so dry It was totally overcooked! The small store had a few inside seating bar stools along a wall, and it wasn't clean. The seating is outside and all the tables were dirty. We had expected a great lunch and got a subpar meal. French fries and fish, It was definitely not worth our bill of $50.00! Not one person came out to wipe off any tables outside as a group of people left. Just a little disappointed because it wasn't as good as the reviews said.

Stopped over here on the way through town. I was suprised at how inexpensive things were until I got my food. The portions were small, but pretty appropriate to the price. The fries were cooked to a golden brown. The fried fish had a panko-like coating. The clam chowder tasted simple, and was pretty thin to be called a chowder. It also would've benefited from more seasoning and more richness. All in all, it was an acceptable meal, but I don't think I'd choose to stop here again. Parking was not easy and getting in and out of the lot was rough. Service was friendly. There is outdoor seating.

I have been traveling to Eugene for 12 years and I've learned the first place I want to eat is Newman's! Absolutely the best cod fish & chips anywhere, but also great shrimp and clam chowder. And the fries are always fresh, warm and tasty! Service is fast and friendly. Prices are reasonable. The seating is limited and very casual. Most customers use take out.

What a gem in Eugene! Newman's is a seafood shop/market that also sells food. There's a window on the side of the shop where you order your meal and plenty of seating outdoors and indoors. I ordered a 3 piece fish and chips with cod and this was chef's kiss. The fish was so tender and so lightly breaded, it was perfect. Fries were also nicely crispy on the outside while still soft on the inside. What more can I ask for? AND this was just $11! You won't find prices this good anywhere else.

I was very surprised to hear of such a great restaurant that served only seafood in Eugene, Oregon. A couple of my friends told me about the place and it did not disappoint. The po'boy was made perfectly with just the right amount of sauce to bring out the flavors in the fried oyster. The fried salmon is a classic done well, and their house made tartar sauce is a great option for pairing. I highly recommend this place if you want seafood classics done the right way. I look to visit this place again, regularly when I'm in the city. Also, their staff is very friendly. Go check them out today!

I love the cod and halibut fish and chips what I don't care for is the oil between the fish and batter always have to drain it on napkins or it's going to drain on everything else but other than that it's good

Yum! We were recommended to stop by as the weather is nice out and the food was just as enjoyable as the weather. Plenty of outdoor seating and parking. The line to take orders does span out into the parking lot a bit so just be aware. We ordered rockfish w/coleslaw ($11) and salmon w/fries ($13+). Both fish were lightly breaded and crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. The pieces of salmon were slightly bigger than those of the rockfish. The coleslaw was tangy and decently portioned. Fries were nice and crispy. They provide plenty of tartar sauce and some lemon wedges too. Each item was nicely packaged in parchment paper and kept everything separate but warm (respectively). If in the area, we would happily eat here again.

Absolutely the Very Best for fried fish n chips. I've been going here since 1995 and it has consistently been excellent ! I don't know of any other seafood restaurant in Eugene with that record.

I don't even like fish and chips but it was good! Simple batter but deliciously fresh fish. Ambiance 4/5 - shaded tables lower and higher but flies loved hanging around Service 5/5 - friendly Halibut 5/5 - softer Cod 3/5 Fries 3/5 - wasn't hot/fresh and big soggy because of the way it was packaged Slaw 5/5 - toned down version of KFC slaw in my opinion Tartar sauce 5/5 + lemon + Tabasco

Late post. During our Oregon roadtrip we stayed in Eugene to visit some of the falls and bridges in the area. Stumbled to this fish and chips place, lucky that we did. It's a must in Eugene. The fish is so fresh. Great flavor. Tartar sauce was good. Love the clam chowder. Wished I ordered extra fish.

I used to love this place, but it isn't worth the price. I'd go to market of choice for fish.

I had some of the best fish tacos I've ever had! I ordered the wahoo, which I had never had and was very pleased. The sauces were great, and the fish was perfect. The service was good, too.

No secret here. Best fish n chips anywhere and best shop shop anywhere! But your fish here. Know it's fresh and absolutely perfect. Can't say anymore. If you don't go you won't be in my way.

Such a gem! Fresh, delicious sea food, and friendly, knowledgeable staff that will help you find the right product and gladly give you recipe ideas or cooking tips. They have a great selection of artisan foods, too, that are fun for gifts. And don't sleep on their hot food! I love the fish and chips--fresh and hot, so good on a cold day.

Never had a bad experience here, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Fresh seafood selection is awesome and the fried pickles are delicious. The fish and chips are always great.

A quick walk from where I live and the best fish and chips in town by far. The best fried fish in town and just incredibly fresh. You can really taste and tell the difference and it's quality too but they also give amazing quality. Not just drenched in oil either which is such a relief and very nice people that will get you your food quick! The seating area is covered to so rain and sunshine you can get some amazing fried fish!

The service is great, but the food has gone downhill in the past 6 months. In the past the fish was lightly battered and generous portions. Now our last 2 experiences have been disappointing; thick dark brown batter, less fish cooked in old oil. The cole slaw was very soggy. But the french fries were OK. We've been customers for over 4 years and will not go back again.

Hands down the best take out fish in Eugene. I was here visiting my daughter and went here three times in a week ! Both type shrimps are awesome. Scallops are huge and sooo tender and good. Be sure to ask what the special of the day is. So glad I found this place !

This is an update on their outdoor dining. While the fish inside is still fresh and a great selection, we were very disappointed in the outdoor dining. Maybe they have a new cook or are trying to conserve but the fish (cod) & chips were nasty. They had obviously been cooked in old oil and the fried oysters were really bad. Heavy breading and so overcooked. Didn't even taste like oysters also in nasty oil. I will stick with Fisherman's for my fried fish and Provisions for the oysters from now on.

This place is an old Eugene gem and has been in Eugene since 1890! I love that the walk up window is so convenient and fast. We love coming here in the summertime, but we popped in last night and it reminded me to give them a mention. Their fish 'n chips are really good and they keep their prices surprisingly low: $11 for cod and $13 for salmon. The salmon is my favorite and both options include fries and sauces. Their portions are filling , but if you wanted, you could add another piece of cod for $3, salmon for $3.75...or cole slaw for $2.25! There are many other options, too: shrimp Louie, clam chowder, grilled halibut or salmon, coconut shrimp, rockfish and sandwiches with any of the above! The only downside is that there isn't really a vibe, ambiance or atmosphere to speak of, (seating outside next to a parking lot), but if you're hankering for some fresh fish 'n chips to go, this is your place!

Honestly some of the best fish & chips I've had! 3 succulent pieces of cod - fresh and juicy and nicely coated without too much breading. Service was friendly and I'd definitely recommend it! It's a no shrill type of outdoor patio seating or take out.

Okay so my husband had this on his list of places to go in Eugene. We arrived about 30 minutes before closing and usually I just have a rule about going to restaurants an hour before they close. But anyways we decided to go anyway. The menu is simple which I liked! I ordered the fish and chips (cod), scallops, and coconut shrimp. All of the meat seemed to be over cooked. The cod was kind of dry, the breading on the scallops just fell off, and the coconut shrimp although overcooked was in my opinion the tastiest. My husband enjoyed his salmon and chips. My kids liked their shrimp and chips. The fries were delicious and customer service was excellent. If you want to try this place my suggestion would be not to go before they close!

This place has everything. Also a great place to grab some lunch. People are very knowledgeable and friendly. Fun to watch them cutting fresh fish for the display case. We will be back!

Nice place for some fish & chips. I like the location and the setup. Easy to order right at the window. They need to upgrade their out door seating though. My fish was undercooked one time though.

You can order a few fried pieces at the window before you go inside to buy seafood to cook for later-don't skip the tarter sauce!

Delicious!! I ordered 2 pieces of cod and a cup of clam chowder. Both were wonderful. I would've loved to have tried the fries and coleslaw...next time. There will be a next time. The staff was super friendly and chatty. Service was quick. There is indoor/outdoor seating, with barstools inside and tables outside. Hopefully, when the weather cools, they'll have heaters outside.

I had forgotten about this place. It has the best fish and chips around. I have lived in Oregon for 14 years and this is 1of the first places we tried. I am not a big fish eater but this puts any other fish to shame. It is incredibly fresh fish and the cole slaw is amazing.

I regularly purchase fish at Newman's to make at home as it is always fresh and service excellent but had stopped getting the fish and chips for the past 1-2 years as the fries were undercooked. My partner got the cod today while I shopped for fresh fish. What's delightful surprise! French fries crisp on the outside and soft inside . Perfect! Cod was delicious. Not over breaded. Seating outside and indoors. We will be back!

Their fresh fish, fish & chips, and clam chowder are my favorite in town. Don't miss out on extra stuff like their canned tuna and fish broth. Compared to Fisherman's Market, they have a much smaller selection of hot food, but the quality is more consistent.

Great takeout meals. Has been my fresh fish & seafood market for year. Always fresh. One sign of a great seafood market is not smelly fishy when you walk in and it doesn't. Not the cheapest but if you like fresh top quality seafood this is it.

There are a handful of good seafood places to choose from in Eugene, but this one is my favorite. It's smaller and feels more like a neighborhood shop than the fisherman's market, in my opinion. They have a variety of options for their fish and chips, from salmon to scallops to halibut and shrimp, so there is always something new to try. Most of the fish and chips options are around $8, but it's generally always under $12 and you get a very decent portion with a side like coleslaw or fries. Overall, it's very good quality at a very reasonable price! They also have a fish market inside where you can purchase not only fresh seafood but also specialty and gourmet cheeses. In addition, they have various specialty oils and vinegars, jams and sauces, so if you're having a date night at home or throwing a party and need some nibbles you should make a pit stop here. Also located inside is a seating area if you are dining in and it's cold outside (since they also have an outdoor patio). And if you're not ready for the night to be over, head on over to Bierstein and grab a drink or two. Really, you can't go wrong here!
