Sublime Swiss cheese from a century-old family dairy. Great place to visit on your drive to Point Reyes etc. Conveniently located right off Highway 1. Friendly service. You can watch the cheese being made and spend some time at the dairy. Combine their award winning cheeses with the chocolates and crackers they sell and it’s a nice snack for a picnic or alongside wine. A California classic.

Google
Pit stop although there was plenty of tables and chairs outside. We were only after hard cheeses and their Reserve fit the bill. Large variety. Friendly staff. No cheese tasting available. Good price point. Eggs sold out by Sunday 4:30 PM. That region is stunning--we hiked a bit, went to French Marin (they sold Nicasio Valley cheese for almost double the price), and back for more at Nicasio Valley. Enjoy!

If you’re passing through Nicasio, you have got to make sure to stop here! It’s just a bit south of the iconic Nicasio School. The staff are super friendly and Nicasio Valley Cheese is wonderful! Yes you can find it in grocery stores all around though it’s nice to get the cheese right from the source, and the price is pretty good! Also farm fresh eggs is a plus!

Me and my husband randomly stumbled upon this place driving the back roads to Point Reyes. We stopped on a whim and we're so glad we did! The older woman at the counter was very patient and even let us try a cheese sample that was similar to the one we were thinking to buy. She explained the differences in firmness and helped us find a softer more mild tasting cheese.bi told her we were going to be eating it in the car and she made sure we had knives and napkins so we wouldn't struggle. We can't wait to make the trip back out next chance we get! Perfect stop for cheese lovers.

Cheese! Who doesn't love cheese??? We were passing by on our way to get oysters in Marshall, And we knew we had to stop here! Absolutely delicious cheese. Worth a visit! Also, they ship!

People from all over pop into this tiny little cheese shop. You can taste a variety of cheeses and some jams/chutneys. We loved the Nicasio Reserve. Also picked up some lavender sugar and other snacks. We also thought the bri-style was yummy.

Great cheese available at their cute farm shop.

We stopped in be for the New Year, we came away with Foggy Morning Cheese and so much more. You really cant go wrong in this store. Make sure to add this stop to road-trip. And locals, get a move on… day a day trip to west Marin, it’s full of hidden treasures!

Yelp
We drove by on our return from the coast. Inside the shop, you'll find plenty of cheese to sample, alongside its accompaniments. I'm told, that generally, they offer three cheeses to sample. Through a window, you'll see the pasteurizer and the cheese being made. The space feels rustic, warm, and inviting. It's worth the stop. We left with four lovely cheeses!

Yelp
The way the wine country has wineries this area has cheese, although not as many places there are some very good cheese places in the area that are worth visiting and getting supplies to go for a picnic somewhere. This is one of my favorite local cheeses with many different varieties all made locally here in this small dairy from milk from local cows. The bonus of coming to the small dairy shop is they sell? The cheese is cheaper because it comes from the source and it's a really good deal My favorite thing to do is to come here and get a couple cheeses a nice piece of bread and maybe some other things to go with it, including a bottle of wine and finding a place to enjoy it at the beach or on the hill somewhere in the valley .

Yelp
We've been getting Nicasio Valley cheese for many Sundays now at the Clement Street Farmers' Market. Staff gives very generous samples, and their cheese is always so tasty. We really love their soft cheeses - our favorites are the Locarno and Foggy Morning. The hard cheeses are also great. We've been meaning to do one of their guided tours and cheese tasting on a weekend when we can get out to Nicasio. You can pre-book on their website for 40$ - sounds so fun for a group. Still one of our farmers' market favorites, and hopefully we'll get out to their ranch soon.

Yelp
Cheese trail destination We stopped by Nicasio Valley Cheese Company and we were impressed by the small farm ambiance and warm welcome upon arrival. The staff member was extremely knowledgeable about their cheeses and the cheese-making process, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.

Yelp
Stopped by after a walk in Roy's Reserve, and picked up some cheese. Sadly there was no cheese out for tasting on a Monday, but the person who was working was knowledgeable about the family owned business, and we were able to see the cheese being made.

Yelp
We came into Nicasio Valley Cheese Company on our way to Point Reyes. My family and I come here as part of our planned cheese tour of 3 local cheese companies. This company is very small compared to the other cheese companies that we visited. The shop was small, but there was a window that looked into where they make their cheeses. The was only 1 type of cheese to taste (Nicasio Reserve). The lady that worked there was very nice as was her trainee and both were knowledgeable about their products. Most of their cheeses have won awards. We needed up purchasing the Foggy Morning garlic and basil cheese which was delicious. If we are in the area, we would stop back in to purchase more cheese.

Yelp
This is a small cheese shop in an isolated town in Marin county, which we visited this past Sunday. Tastings ended at 4pm, but the employee let us try a couple cheeses leftover, as we were there about an hour before closing time. She was friendly and provided helpful info about the different offerings. We ended up buying two kinds, the Foggy Morning with basil and garlic, and the Nicasio Reserve alpine style (hard cheese). I preferred the latter, but they were both tasty and we brought our own crackers to enjoy these with after our visit. They have a bit of outdoor seating and a small parking lot as well.

Yelp
This was our second stop on our cheese tour around Sonoma and Marin counties! Though the shop isn't very big, they have a decent selection of cheeses, drinks, olives, and more! They have a few picnic tables to hang out at as well.

Yelp
Quaint creamery with a big punch. Amazing cheese. I highly recommend the Foggy morning. Wonderful friendly service. I went a little bit of my way to visit and it was worth it.

Yelp
Took the tour and tasting. We had a very enjoyable synopsis of the farmstead, the history of Nicasio, and the cheese making process. The tasting was well executed by Rick, and definitely led to some purchases at the store. Kind of a magical place.

Yelp
If you like to cheese and lucky enough to be in the gorgeous countryside of Nicasio, CA, you should check out the little shop of Nicasio Valley Cheese. They are my all time favorite cheese maker. My favorite cheese is Nicasio Valley's brand Foggy Morning. Foggy Morning is a fromage blanc style cheese. It has a creamy smooth spreadable texture. Lighter than cream cheese and thicker than Greek yogurt. I love the slight tanginess and creamy texture. Delicious. TMI, I am lactose intolerant but I can tolerate the Foggy Morning cheese. I spread it on toasted sourdough bread and top it with sweet or savory toppings. I am in heaven with this on toasted sourdough with strawberry jam and bacon. The shop is tiny and compact. It is no frills. The building is nondescript. Keep an eye out for it from the road, there is no big flashy fancy sign. Thy do not have a Instagram shop wall or landscaped picnic area. But they do have darn delicious award winning cheeses. Besides their vast selection of cheeses, they sell local items such as eggs, honey, jams, vinegars, and olive oils. Also something to note is that they temporarily suspended free samples ever since COVID. Shucks. I hope that may change soon.

Yelp
I found Nicasio Valley Cheese at the Clement street farmers market. Decent prices on the soft cheeses, and far cheaper then buying online, but if your in Marin you might want to hit up their shop. The market stall has some nice Brie, it's a stall that I want to explore the next time I hit the street market on Clement. 100% Organic with a commitment of sustainable agriculture since 1919.

Yelp
Stopped by on the way back from Point Reyes and boy were we in for a treat. The Foggy Morning cheese was such a delight, both light and creamy at the same time. We also got the Nicasio Reserve which was good but not amazing. The staff were so nice and welcoming; specially cut up some samples for two of the hard cheeses for us. I would suggest bringing your own bread and salami for a nice afternoon of charcuterie. They do sell bread crisps and salami there (we bought the bread crisps) but not bread. There is a pleasant outdoor picnic table area that is half shaded and perfect to enjoy the cheese on a warm day. I would love to visit again soon.

Yelp
When all the other cheese factories/ tasting rooms where closed at 4pm on a Saturday, Nicasio was open and the staff were so welcoming. Getting to tarts cheese made from the cows we drove by on the hills down the road is a truly farm to table experience. This farm uses the same milk that gets used at clover milk. Go and taste then buy some cheese and crackers and sit in the back picnic area and let the kids play while having lunch. Awesome setup Nicasio

Yelp
Excellent cheese shop-lots of samples and knowledge and much better prices than the French one. Buy here picnic there. ;)

Yelp
What a cute little cheese store. After our last 4 trips up to grab some oysters at Tomales Bay, we finally decided to check this place out. The lady who greeted us outside gave us a brochure to help us understand what types of cheeses they had available. That was very helpful. After maybe a 10 min wait, we were finally allowed inside after the first group of people finished up their purchases. The same lady who gave us the brochure was kind enough to help us select which types of cheeses they had for sale. The cheeses on display was organized from mild to sharp (more smelly). We decided to go with their mild selections. There is plenty of parking on their lot and you can see their processing machinery through the glass window. Very interesting place to stop by and browse around if you're a cheese lover. Not far down the road is a winery where you can grab a bottle to go with your cheese.

Yelp
We have been to Nicasio Cheese several times over the last few years. First, the cheese. We have always been impressed with the quality of the cheese. My wife, who is from France, can attest to the high quality compared to what she enjoyed while growing up. Their soft cheeses are great and the Nicasio Squares are pungent (in a good cheesey way) and remind us of the wonderful soft, aromatic cheeses of France. While all food is a matter of taste, I am aware that what I like may not be liked by others. Yet I have never had a cheese there that I did not like. Today's visit reinforced that impression. The shop is unpretentious and the host is both knowledgeable and friendly. No pressure to buy. The sales talk, as such, is an enthusiastic, informative description of their products. This atmosphere is a welcome departure from that of the more commercial shops in this area. In all, there is little to criticize and much to laud. This shop is highly recommended.

Yelp
Some of the great cheeses in United States! The soft cheeses are particularly good. Lacarno and Nicasio Square are amount the finest. The cheese tasting areas are great .

Yelp
This is a tiny little place out on the back roads of Marin County. In my twenty plus years of driving the back roads and living in Marin County I'd never thought to stop here, as there are rarely any vehicles, so I thought it was closed. I happened to pull over to make a call and realized this is a cheese factory, they actually make cheese here! No one was making cheese on the day I stopped by, but the place is immaculate, and the staff was very informative not only about cheese but about the local area I was looking to rent in. Great service, great cheese, and I grabbed some habenero pineapple jam that was DELECTABLE !!!

Sonnya C.

Yelp
Must stop here! Delicious cheeses and friendly service. Cute assortment of local spices, honey, etc. This cheese is seriously delicious!

Yelp
Ok so it have been 7 weeks on lock down and our son want to drop off a cupcake and balloon to his high school friend in Marin for a "drive by 15th birthday on Cinco de Mayo" We took a short drive down Lucas Valley Road to the little township of Nicasio Valley with its picturesque church, restaurant, Historical society, cows and The Nicasio Valley Cheese Company. They were removing the "OPEN" just before closing but they were gracious to let us enter the tiny shop. Note during the COVID19 pandemic there are NO Sampling----understand able. We were impressed by the variety of homemade jams with unique flavors like Myers lemon & Garlic, Cherry, guava, no sugar BlackBerry and about 30 more! We selected several cheese base on recommendations and look forward to trying as were have turned into a "Zoom Party Happy Hour" across the globe with family & friend while practicing social distancing. So here's to our Cinco De Mayo exploration to The Nicasio Valley Cheese Company continued success!

Yelp
Nicasio Valley Cheese Company is some of the BEST cheese I have ever had. My hubby and I decided to take a random drive to Point Reyes this past president's day weekend. The drive consisted of beautiful ranches and lush green pastures. I mentioned to my hubby I really hoped to buy cheese! We stumbled upon Nicasio Valley Cheese Company on our way to Point Reyes. There was a sign outside that said "Cheese Tasting." The shop itself is small but it does not disappoint. I am a HUGE fan of the foggy morning cheeses! The jams are amazing too! I picked up a guava flavored bottle. For $5 you can buy a cooler bag for your cheese and for $2 an ice pack. Did I mention the customer service was excellent too? I highly recommend you stop in!
google avatar

Greg C.

Yelp
One of the many great things about living in west Marin is the cheese that is made here. NVC is one of the best, a smaller producer that a good range of cheeses. One good thing about buying it where they make it is the price is a little better than in the stores. I recommend picking up a wide range of cheeses, some crusty bread, a bottle of wine, and may be a stick of salami, and go on a picnic locally there are many many places to go.
google avatar

Frank D.

Yelp
A very quaint establishment that offers quality cheeses produced from nearby cows and processed right there at the ranch. It reminds me of the Marin Cheese of yesteryear. As a bonus local made artisan chocolates are also offered. Yummy.
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
This store is a must when driving up to Marshall for some oysters and a day trip. I absolutely cannot make the drive without stopping here. The staff is always very knowledgeable about the products. They have a great selection of jams and crackers...but the cheese! Every cheese I've had here has been wonderful! There's a variety of options from mild to very stinky. Perfect for the artisanal cheese newb or the stinky cheese lover. And they always have everything needed to make a nice picnic to go with the oysters your are inevitably driving to.

Lisa T.

Yelp
I curated a few creameries for a fun little day trip. Out of the 5 we visited, Nicasio Valley Cheese company easily beats everyone else. They had great customer service and their cheese superior. They were giving out tours now for anyone interested, although we did not join one. We came home with the Foggy Morning, alpine cheddar and the Loma Alta.

Yelp
Very nice cheese shop find while in the area, good variety of all cheesy deliciousness . Really enjoyed all of the options and friendly service , affordable options , I will definitely recommend to family and friends.

Yelp
Amazing cheese and a lovely experience. Always stop in & stock up when I'm home in Marin.definately worth the trip.

Mallory C.

Yelp
Love this place. True old school Marin gem. The cheese is amazing & the team there is great. Get it at the store or at the civic center market on Sunday & have a great conversation about cheese & cheesemaking. Adore everything about this place.
google avatar

Yelp
My folks and I love this place. Good quality products at a reasonable price. Highly recommended stop on your journey through the Sonoma Cheese Trail!
google avatar

Yelp
saw the sign and popped in. chose a very ripe cheese with funk and were oh so pleasantly warned that maybe we weren't ready, given an informal tasting of first a less adventurous cheese that was in fact far more adventurous than the written descriptions let on. then of our chosen cheese and it was true, a little too advanced for us. so bought the first taste type and another and plan to come back for the formal tour and tasting, ($35 fridays at 10am by appointment).
google avatar

Lata G.

Yelp
Me and my friend visited this establishment June 23 at 4:30 PM 2022, the cheese was excellent! However our experience with the person who was at the store was less than a one star I experienced is somewhat insulting encounter with this woman, As a woman of color I was completely ignored and snuffed by her while my friend Who was a Caucasian man was not! she was helpful well... as helpful as she could be having not a lot of knowledge of any of the cheeses and no help for suggestions as to recommendations. However she did emphasize to my friend by saying she did not have a lot of knowledge so if you like cheeses and are Caucasian you should be OK to go to this establishment as the cheese was good.
google avatar

Allie L.

Yelp
Whether you're navigating the cheese trail or a local in the area, Nicasio Valley Cheese Company is a great stop in the hood. This one beats its competitors pretty simply - by not trying too hard. The space is small, but is occupied by large pieces of cheese for you to taste upon your arrival. No need to feel bad asking for more than a couple of tastings. Just go straight to the cheese island and grab what you want. There were 12ish cheeses to try from when we were there (more than enough to make you feel like you had lunch) and the woman working the shop was knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and even tried some cheese with us. Their cheese is award winning for a reason...it's absolutely delicious. Our favorites were the aged Tomimo and the Aged San Geronimo, which we bought loads of. If you're a cheese lover, make the pit stop here and prepare your wallets.
google avatar

Marilyn B.

Yelp
I am so disappointed. After spending $55 on 4 pieces of cheese, a few cookies and granola I got home to find out that three out of the 4 cheeses were rotten. What a waste of $. Only the morning fog cheese was good. The others were slimy and exceptionally strong smelling when I opened the package. I generally like strong bold flavored cheese such as Stilton, but these had gone bad.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
The cheese here is wonderful! The space inside is too small but if i were them i would add a picnic table or two, sell some fresh eggs (hard boiled) and find a way to make some shade for the line that forms outside.
google avatar

Kristian D.

Yelp
Nicasio Valley Cheese Company is one of many cheese makers in Marin County keeping up the classic tradition of cheese making. They use local milk to create many different varieties at their facility in Nicasio. They have a cheese shop with retail sales and sell their cheese at many stores and markets in Northern California. The cheese is the star here with several fresh and aged products. Most of the regional cheese tends to be fresh and soft although Nicasio makes several harder products. The shop is rather basic and small, but the selection and free samples cannot be beat. If you are in the area, it is worth stopping at Nicasio Valley Cheese Company to stock up on your favorites. The bucolic setting is worth a detour in any case!

Yelp
C and I came upon this cheese shop and production facility when I drove by last weekend. We parked, went into the shop and were greeted by two very friendly young employees on duty at the time. They told us to go ahead and help ourselves to all of the cheese samples. We did and loved them all. We ended up buying four or five of their different cheeses. It was a hot day and we were concerned about hauling our cheese around. Fortunately the shop sells thermal carrier and a cold pack. Our cheese got home just fine a few hours later. This is a small business worth supporting. Next time we're in Marin we will return.

T N.

Yelp
Stopped by after a short hike in Point Reyes during the last hour they were open. Small shop with a variety of house made cheeses and snacks to go along (jam, almonds, crackers, etc). They were helpful describing the quality of the cheeses. They had a special on a mystery cheese and the alpine style. Great value if buying for the shop, both of these large wedges were $13. The mystery cheese was round but tasted somewhat like a firmer and more mellow Pont L'eveque. I quite enjoyed the alpine style with crackers. Would stop again if in Point Reyes and will consider buying smaller portions of their cheeses at grocery stores or farmers markets.

Yelp
I saw this little shop when I was biking around the area, and made a note to come back with my car later. When I walked in the shop I was quite surprised. It was very busy with a little cheese sampling area and lots of people walking clockwise around it. The cheese is arranged from most mild to less mild. My favorite was the one called Reserve. So I bought some of that to take home to my wife. Pretty expensive, it was $10 for a small slab, but my wife is worth it. There is also a fun viewing window, where you can see the cheese factory in operation. When I was there, they were pretty much just cleaning up but I still thought it was fun to watch. There are also some other items to buy. There is a big display rack of jam, which comes from Petaluma. Pretty expensive so I passed on that. So overall, a really fun place to visit. There is no pressure whatsoever to buy anything, and you can just go in and try the cheese without buying anything. Nice people, and all the cheese is made right here.

j g.

Yelp
Fantastic cheeses. This artisan cheese is so delicious! The daughter of the founder, her dad, gave us a nice description of each of the cheeses and a bit of the history on the family business. We got to observe the stirring of the curds in the cheese facility! Through a big window.
google avatar

Cindy W.

Yelp
On the way to Point Reyes, we stopped by the cheese shop since it was conveniently on our way and they advertise it so boldly outside their stop. Free cheese? Yes please! I've seen their stands at farmers markets, so I was curious to venture in. My oh my - it's like a cheese kingdom in here. There are SO many samples you get stuffed pretty quickly. It starts off mild to bold and stinky. There's probably at least 10 samples you can try. Of course, you should buy something as well. I really like their milder soft cheeses so we bought a small round. Buttttt.... my favorite was definitely the chocolates that they have in store. SO delicious! They're spectacular and made with their cheese believe it or not! They can only be found in store, I was told. Also, the attendant was very nice. That said, you don't get to learn about the cheese making process. There's a window pane through which you can see the magic happen but not much else.

Yelp
Found on a winding, oak tree-lined two lane road in the middle of golden, rolling hills of Northern California, this is a small shed-like building that appears to be part of a farm. To one side was an adorable pumpkin patch (this is Halloween time, you see). Stepping inside, we found a rectangular table with a goodly selection of their custom cheeses, free for the tasting, and a few other gourmet items on shelves. Not a big store at all, but fun to stop. The specialness of their cheeses was lost on me. Normally I am not a big fan of many strong cheeses, so brie, goat, or blue cheeses (and most of the cheeses were some rendition of those) was a waste on me . The only one I truly enjoyed was the mildest, almost ricotta-like fresh cheese, I believe it was called Foggy Morning. Regardless, I know there is definitely a market for those types. Worth a stop. This was a welcoming pause during our delightful day trip to Tomales Bay.
google avatar

S F.

Yelp
The complementary cheese tasting offers about 8 different cheeses. Start with the Foggy Bottom and work around the table clockwise towards the Bries, then Raclette / Taleggio, and finally back to the savory Foggy Bottom. Listening to the other visitors, there is something that appeals to everyone. I'm drawn to the Foggy and the Locarno. Then grab a baguette and head over to the picnic tables and soak in the beautiful blue sky.

Yelp
I am a big fan of the Nicasio Valley Cheese Company. This is my second visit to NVCC. I first happened upon the store on a way back from the beach. There is a tiny store that offers at least 10 different cheese samples. There are several types of brie soft cheeses and the ever popular breakfast creamy cheese. Breakfast cheese has a neutral flavor balance but is delicious. If you prefer something with a stronger flavor two different kinds of cheese are available. On my second visit, I ran into a group of people from the Cheese magazine. There were in town for Sonoma Cheese festival. It was a treat to hang with this talkative group of excited cheese-lovers. The cheesemaker walked into the tasting room and we had a great discussion on cheesemaking. I asked if there was a tour and he said no but offered me a cheesemaking process walk-through from the display of photos. He mentioned that the cows are housed and farmed on location. Extra milk goes to Clover Stornetta for milk processing.

John G.

Yelp
Fantastically authentic! Peggy, daughter of the founding family parents graciously described the various Nicasio farmstead cheeses and the history of the dairy farm. It is refreshing to hear their story. The cheese's are marvelous! We are sharing them with family.
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
A drive through West Marin with stops at Nicasio Valley Cheese Company and Marin French Cheese down the street is one of our go-to activities with visiting out-of-towners. The shop is very small with a table of samples of more than enough varieties to try. I particularly like Foggy Morning. You can also look through the window at the cheese works. The person behind the counter is always knowledgeable. Pro tip: If you go to the pumpkin patch next door, drinks are cheaper at Nicasio Valley than at the pumpkin patch snack stand.
google avatar

Enrique F.

Yelp
A nice place to drop in and enjoy some free cheese tasting, if you're driving up to Point Reyes along Nicasio Valley Rd. Staff was welcoming and hospitable. The cheese was delicious, especially the Foggy Morning.
google avatar

Anita M.

Yelp
The service and kind reception from the woman working at the register made this experience fantastic. Her hospitality was wonderful without being overbearing as she greeted me, encouraged me to taste their cheeses, let me watch the cheese making through a window, and informed me that there is a cheese tour map with multiple creameries in the area. This ended up being an afternoon event for me and my friend and I'm so grateful that she gave us the map. Unfortunately, I had not planned to purchase cheese, as I was traveling and stopped in on a whim when I saw their sign as I was driving by. The cheese was fun to have the opportunity to taste and several had nice complexity of flavor while others were mild, so anyone could be pleased depending on what you want. What great customer service!! I cannot overstate how much enjoyed this stop!
