Google
Fair prices and fresh selections in this record store. The proximity to the college keeps the indie, rock, and pop records rotating constantly. I also found pretty good metal there. They gave me a fair trade for old records I had as well.

Jack Pannell

Google
Popped in here while visiting as a tourist. The team were great, talking me through the local music scene and making some great recommendations for both records and what to see and do around Raleigh. Friendly and a great record store.

Shelby Harrell

Google
Really cute store, I love the back wall with records and books paired up together. Pretty organized sections for the records. I spent like 2 hours in there, it’s very easy to get absorbed in the atmosphere. I also spent over $100 so they gave me a $10 off coupon for the next time. I’ll definitely be back!

Google
Great prices, friendly staff, excellent trade in values, and every movie I buy is in excellent condition. What more could you ask for. This place rocks! Next to a coffee shop too is awesome.

Gregory Miller

Google
This place is a hidden gem for digging through old records, CDs, books, movies (DVDs, VHS, even some laserdisk). They even have comics. The prices are reasonable and they always have a smile at checkout.

Google
Always find something interesting here, and their pricing on used CDs cannot be beat. Records as well! Ask for help, and you'll receive it- I recently did a "crate" dig through all of their $1 records and found some gems- even some that were new! But one of the ones I found was in terrible shape, and the manager looked for another copy for me- couldn't find it, but did find some other copies of other records by the same artist. I bought one of them.

Google
My favorite local bookstore! Great prices, always feels like a treasure hunt for books and DVDs. And friendly employees!

Andrea Diaz

Google
Nice prices, and a good selection of books and records. I always leave with a couple of books in my hand! They support Girls Rock, a local organization that empowers girls through music. Sometimes they host concerts.

Yelp
I came here for the first time a few weeks ago, and from the second I walked in, I was in love. They had a good selection of genres, reasonably priced used books, and a big selection of non-book items as well such as records and CDs. A perfect example of my ideal used book store!

Yelp
A fun place to shop for used books, vinyl, and DVDs. Eclectic selection and friendly staff. Handicapping parking located in rear of building.

Yelp
Incomparable. Genuinely feels like the only real record shop i have been to. These are not record collectors trying to squeeze every penny out of every record and sinking themselves because of it; if they have a record, you will not find a better deal on it. Honestly wish I could keep this place a secret for myself, but they deserve the attention.

Yelp
This place is great! Awesome atmosphere, friendly staff, good ambience. Also, their name isn't Nice Price for nothing--they are super affordable! I love the merch & stickers & keychains, and the magnets being sold to raise money for the Prison Books Collective. I definitely recommend.

Yelp
Very unfair. I came here on black friday and there was a huge line and i understand why. However on the website it said each person can only buy one copy of each vinyl/record. I saw multple people walking out of the store with at least 2 copies of the same vinyl. I know there is nothing they can do about it now. But i think they coulve at least changed how the website said "There is a limit of one copy per title per customer." It was very unfair of people standing in the line for a long time just to not get a vinyl because the store said one per customer.

Yelp
Good selection. Mostly organized. Books, dvds, records, vhs. Movies were common titles. Lots of wrestling stuff but just for display.

Yelp
This record store is the kinda place that makes me miss living in a small town. There is a sense of community in the shop. Also I can feel that the owners are passionate about music and their shop. The shop also includes a fair amount of books, CD's, DVD's and even cassette tapes! I know crazy. This is where cassettes still live. When everyone has moved on to the next way to listen to music, Nice Price remembers these little guys. They even highlight all theire favorites with little reviews on a shelf. I was personally drawn to the book reviews. I love diving into bookstores and just losing some time in the land of imagination and creativity. There was all kinds of books from healthy hippy eating to the pyschology behind fairytales. I am secretly bummed I didn't pick up the latter. I find the hidden messages in literature so fascinating. And how psychology comes into play in different formats. Nowadays it's more the internet than publications but I still find that it helps one understand the human nature that we often miss. There was little sections of the store that showed humor and personality. How can you not love the book shelf labeled "Beats (not by Dre)" and the fun "Fonz" poster lined up next to the KISS poster! It was like hanging out in someone's living room. I can see how this is locals favorite record spot to frequent. I will make a point to pay a visit whenever I am in town. I even scored some cool TMNT old DVD's for my nephew. He's going to go bananas over them.

Yelp
I LOVE the smell of a used book store. There's nothing else like it. The new book stores don't have it. It's only this sort of place. Neatly organized by section, I quickly found the SciFi and browsed for anything I hadn't seen before and to fill in the holes in my collection. I spotted a Heinlein and a Farmer that were on my list, so I got them. Prices are either as marked or half off the cover price. Seems a bit steep, but certainly cheaper than Amazon or eBay. They have a HUGE selection of vinyl records. Apparently, these big disks are on the way back in. Who knew?

Yelp
Follow-up to my previous review; This place has become my go-to record store in Raleigh, and I almost always find something I want. They've actually cut back on a lot of their used records, but their "New Arrivals" bin is always worth a look, and as I said, I rarely come away empty-handed. The records are also priced to move. I've found many, many gems for under $5. I can't even remember the number of times I've been record shopping in Boston and I'll see something I bought at Nice Price, priced at 2x to 10x the price I paid. This isn't the sort of place that you go to because you're looking for one specific record and you know they'll have it. I go there to see what's come in the door in the last week and I'm rarely disappointed.

Yelp
Gosh, I can't get enough of these bookstores. Nerd overload. I always seem to feel like a kid in a toy store. As I walked through this maze of amazing books, I usually gravitate to my personal likings which include history, music, autobiographies, comedy, literature and poetry/writing. They have a great variety. They also have vinyls, cds and tape cassettes for those of you who live through the oldies. The prices are good, not the best. I'm a bargain shopper but not a cheapo for books. They price their books according to the original price, which is half the price unless otherwise marked. I bought the diaries of Kirk Cobain, a writing book and a Mark Twain thoughts book all for $21. I will be back shortly.

Yelp
I've been on the hunt for a particularly hard to find record for the better part of the year. A kind redditor tipped me off that they had seen the record I needed a few days prior at Nice Price in Raleigh. To my pleasant surprise, the man who answered the phone- Enoch- said they still had the record (!!) and they would ship it to me in Boston (!!!!). He shipped it out that day, and it was in my arms a few days later. The price of the record was SUPER reasonable compared to what it goes for on eBay or discogs, and it was in mint condition. On top of all that Enoch was incredibly kind and helpful over the phone. I can't wait to stop in and shop in person the next time I'm in NC. Thank you! :)

Yelp
I want to preface this review by saying this I used to LOVE Nice Price, and I still go there after I've saved up some money for a book haul, because they really do have nice prices!!!! But, I was in there a month or two ago, and I saw something a bit disheartening. Under their 'linguistics' section, were books titled "The MLA Style Guide", "How to Read Literature like a Professor", "Editing Technical Writing", and other various MLA Handbooks. I am a linguist - and this is NOTHING like what linguistics is about. I do not care, could not care less about what 'techincal writing is', in fact I care more about how people speak aloud, naturally, because spoken language is unconstrained by whatever is in these style guides. Also, some languages don't even have a writing system - yet they are still languages composed of phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. I understand that most people don't know what linguistics is, and this wouldn't be so disheartening to me if the book shop wasn't literally right across the street from a college campus. A university that, as a matter of fact, has one of the most renowned socio-linguists in the field today. Even though as I said, the ignorance of what linguistics is isn't rare to me, it's just sloppy for a bookstore to do, especially one minutes away from the office of Walt Wolfram. And for the record - Reader's Corner at least had the decency to put Steven Pinker's work under psychology. They don't even have a linguistics section, so this I can get behind. If you're going to have a ling section however, at least know what the hell it is!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
I was next door at Guru guitars and as I came out the sign caught my eye. Yep this is a nice little book store. Pretty well organized and when I asked for a title they knew right away if they had the book or not. Very friendly service and most accommodating. Nice atmosphere and attendants are very pleasant and friendly.

Yelp
Not the greatest book store, but its a small, quirky shop that offers a good amount of vinyls, books, and kung fu VHS tapes. I love the decorations with old school wrestling memorability and toys.

Yelp
This place is dope. Found Nice Price Books on a whim and have been coming back since. I always find some good reads and an awesome selection of records.

Yelp
I come here every time I'm in Raleigh. If you're looking for new vinyls, this is absolutely the place to go. Their selection is unparalleled. However, their used vinyl selection is dwindling -- it used to be full of gems but now you really have to dig through piles of bad records (who wants 7 copies of the same Doobie Brothers album?) to find something interesting. Their book selection varies as well, depending on what they have in stock and who brings what to sell, but I can usually find good titles along with pleasant surprises.

Yelp
As my rating states, "Yay! I'm a fan." I stumbled upon this place the other day while I was moseying around DTR. Alright so truth be told, I was passing through, saw a used book store, slammed on the breaks and found a parking spot. While they did not have what I was looking for I did feel very comfortable in this store. Just a note, I judge how I feel by used bookstores. I know that sounds weird but there is no place I'm more comfortable in this world than sitting on the floor of a used book store rummaging through material. That being said, I felt very comfortable here. I felt like I could have gotten lost in the shelves for hours, which if time had permitted, I probably would have. I look forward to returning again.

Yelp
I'm not sure if I understand how they arrange the books -- if you were to look for Toni Morrison, you wouldn't find her in the literature but in African-American fiction. However, Alice Walker's Color Purple was in literature and not in African-American fiction. So I am not convinced this method is the most efficient, but it definitely works for those who are willing to hunt. I do like that they are very clear with how much prices are, with multiple signs on every shelf, stating books are half priced (unless otherwise noted). The location is also nice because if you do find a good read, then you can hop over to Cup-A-Joe next door.

Yelp
Not for the faint of hipster. This place has a great selection of new/used vinyl (as you'll witness over their loudspeaker) and used books. The employees are a little more aloof than at Reader's Corner, but don't be intimidated: they're still nice, knowledgeable, passionate people who will help you find that Salman Rushdie or John Grisham book you've been looking for.
google avatar

Russell W.

Yelp
It has books, but the records are gaining more space than previous owner. That is cool with me. I always find cool records in the $1 bins and they have a huge new records section. I like quirky shops so this is pretty on point for me.

Yelp
Yes, this is the best record shop in Raleigh. I've been to all of them and there are some close seconds. Overall, this place has the best selection especially for new vinyl. Pretty decent used selection as well. The staff is super helpful and friendly. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
Nice Price is a pretty solid place to spend a while adventuring and browsing. That said, if I was looking for something very specific, I'd lose my mind trying to find it. To be completely fair to them they have recently rearranged their space in order to be able to have live music, but even before that their CD selection was in 2 or 3 seperately alphebetized shelves, just for the Rock music. Other reviewers have noted the sections being oddly defined, such that a book you're looking for probably has at least a couple sections it might fall into. Those complaints aside, I love browsing the shelves here and the selection is eclectic and interesting. Their Used CD selection is impressive, though the prices for music seem to be slightly on the pricey side, but I've found stuff there that I'm frankly surprised someone let go of. They have a solid selection of used vinyl and a smattering of new releases too. Everything else is very clearly and consistently priced, and very reasonable. If you've got a while to go on a used-bookstore expedition, I'd highly recommend Nice Price.

Yelp
This store was super cheap I bought two albums for $2! They had some free stickers too! Nice location downtown near the nc state campus plus right beside of cup a Joe!!

Yelp
Used book stores are great. There's something about the smell of old pages that somehow invites you to stick around. As far as shopping in them, though, it's a mixed bag. I've rarely found what I had in mind when I walked into Nice Price, but I always leave with something. The real gold here, though, is over by the door. As a comic book nerd, I always have to pour over their rack of slightly distressed and super-cheap comic selections. Then I head directly to the CDs. Somehow Nice Price maintains a better selection of used CDs than the record stores (why do we still call them that?) do. In both cases, I've found some rare gems that flew under my radar the first time around but have become favorites.

Yelp
I am always happy to support this local business! The staff is so kind & helpful & there are great prices for new & used records :)

Yelp
They have a decent selection of used books, comics, records, and CDs. Also neat t-shirts to do some free advertising for them. The two times I tried to sell them something though, they really put up a fight about it. I guess they can't help how many murder mystery books they have in the store already, but I bought a CD, a day later I tried to sell it back because I realized it was scratched and they wouldn't take it. Even though I bought it there, pretty much as it was. Sucks that I didn't inspect it more carefully in their dimly lit little indie palace of books.

Daniel M.

Yelp
Nice Price Books is a really fun place to explore. It isn't huge, but they have a pretty unique collection of used books and records. Going in there is kind of like a treasure hunt, you never know what gems you might find. Definitely worth checking out!
google avatar

Fido D.

Yelp
This review is based entirely on their focus/selection on academic books in the humanities and social sciences. With regards to that, they don't do well for that. Their Durham and Carrboro branch are much better for that. Unfortunately, the Carrboro branch will be closing real soon! I visited this branch today looking at their Buddhism, anthropology, sociology, African, Black studies, and philosophy section. Meh...not so nice.

Yelp
I stopped in Nice Price Books & Records while visiting my parents who live in the area. Mainly going to check out the records, I was pleasantly surprised at what they had to offer. They have many used and new records, all at fair prices, but what really blew me away was the display of rare records in which I found a Red House Painters and Jets To Brazil album! I also bought a few books which were very fairly priced and in almost new condition. I had to control myself to not buy any graphic novels which were like-new and half off cover price! The guy working the counter was super nice and I had a nice chat with him about Sun Kil Moon. Overall, an awesome place and I'll definitely make it a priority to stop back when I'm near.

Yelp
I love this place. Not only do they carry a huge range of books, but they'll buy back your stuff. I took a collection of books that I had been hauling around, all types of obscure stuff I didn't think anyone wanted and walked out of that place with enough $$$ for a decent dinner for two...

Yelp
The classic record store experience. Cozy little building in a historic neighborhood, vinyl by the score, awesome book selection, and a cool, knowledgeable staff. I shop there regularly and always look forward to returning. I usually purchase everything from soul '45s, to metal, to classic rock, and heavy psych. They never disappoint.

Yelp
When I was living in Raleigh I probably dropped by Nice Price Books at least once a week. The prices are ridiculously fair and the book selection is of a high caliber as well. I wasn't thrilled about the staff not being very personable (this isn't to say there was blatant rudeness), though that's really the only negative thing I can say about the store.
