I had left a voicemail telling them that my husband had been dreaming of Beef Wellington since our wedding six years ago and still hadn’t gotten to try it. When the owner called me back, he said he’d talked to the chef, and they were going to run it as a special just for us that weekend. I was floored. Literally speechless. It was so kind. Fast forward to dinner: When we arrived at Nick’s, there was a Happy Anniversary card signed by the whole staff waiting at our table. Everyone was so kind and genuinely excited for us. The owner came over to chat with us, and later the chef even came out to ask how everything was. My husband was SO excited. He lit up the second the Wellington arrived — perfectly cooked, wrapped in golden pastry, and completely delicious. (We even ordered one to-go.) I got the eggplant Parmesan and we shared the fried green tomatoes — everything was insanely fresh and flavorful. I haven’t had food like that in forever. Nick’s is also veteran-owned, and honestly? I cannot say enough good things. They went way above and beyond to make our night special. We’ll absolutely be back.

Nick’s Ristorante is a great place if you’re in the mood for a nice Italian dinner. The restaurant has a cozy and classy vibe, perfect for date night or a family meal. I ordered the steak with pasta, and both were cooked just right. The meat was super tender and full of flavor. My parents got the veal and said it was amazing. Our server was friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The food took a little while to come out, but it was worth the wait. They also have a good wine list if you're into that. Prices are a little high, but the quality makes it fair. I’d definitely go back again—it’s one of the better Italian spots in town.

Google
Fantastic experience. The food was amazing and the service was great. Highly recommend. We went with a large party (13) so there was a wait but it was definitely worth it. If I had to pick one negative it would be that you have to go through the cigar bar to get to the restroom and I'm highly allergic to smoke. Got eggplant Parmesan and triple chocolate cheesecake.

WARNING: The bar is NOT smoke free. Be warned when reserving the bar side! We learned this the hard way and the smell of cigars was quite overwhelming. Service was a little bit slow however this may have been due to us sitting in the cigar lounge side. But I’m giving it a 5/5 because the food was SO worth it. We had a feast and tried some of everything including the ahi tuna, lamb lollipops, bone in ribeye, Napoli pasta, beef stroganoff, crab cakes, mashed potatoes and sweet potato fries. Out of all of this food our favorites were the steak and the crab cakes! The crab cakes are a definite must try here and they can be added onto any entree for $12. We enjoyed every last bite here. Trent was an amazing waiter, very friendly and personable! The restaurant manager Tom came by our table and introduced himself to us. The staff here were over the top friendly. Our only complaint was the overwhelming smell of cigar smoke however next time we will be making reservations more than a day in advance. You NEED a reservation to eat here! Call way in advance, it’s a very popular place. Overall this restaurant is pricey but 100% worth it for the unique taste and quality.

Update to my previous rating and changing to 5 stars: my husband had a reservation for my birthday on 3/21 (last night) and it was absolutely phenomenal. They even set out a birthday card which I thought was a lovely and special touch. I had a rack of lamb and my husband had the ribeye and both were cooked to perfection and delicious. Kudos to the chef! The curry sauce with the lamb was different than I’ve ever had and complimented the lamb greatly. And the special risotto was amazing (I apologize that I don’t remember was it was called exactly). The atmosphere was a little noisy just from others chatting, but nothing to worry with, and the lighting and music made it a relaxing romantic dinner. Service was a just a tad slow to begin, but it seemed to be a busy night and our waiter was still attentive, on point with everything and friendly. I didn’t have to ask for a single thing and everything was perfect. I would’ve loved to try something for desert, but was way too full to push it 🤣 Oh, and the lady at the hostess stand was absolutely sweet and welcoming. It was a lovely birthday dinner and we will definitely come back.

Google
We enjoyed the atmosphere and most of the food.’, but service was very slow. The pasta was delicious, but my husband’s scallops were a little overcooked. We had the fried green tomatoes with crab meat on top for an appetizer. The tomatoes were excellent, but there was only a little crab on them, so the crab seemed superfluous. My wedge salad was delicious and they modified it for me since I’m not a fan of bleu cheese. My husband’s caesar salad was average. The presentation of the food was very pretty. The buttery chardonnay paired well with the seafood, but they forgot to bring my husband’s wine and once they realized the oversight, it took about 10 minutes to get it.

Google
Prime Rib Thursday! Dinner was delicious and the service was excellent, as always. You need a reservation ... So don't forget. Bar is smoking and the dining room is non-smoking. Great selection of wine and high end liquor. Be sure to save room for dessert. Noisy in the bar and very quiet in the dining room

Google
My husband & I came here to celebrate my birthday. It was our first time and it did not disappoint. Every table was set with candle light, glassware for: water, white wine, and red wine, linen napkins & table cloths. Glasses that will not be used are removed from the table. I highly recommend making a reservation as many, if not all, of the tables were clearly reserved to celebrate birthdays or anniversaries. The waitstaff has no desire to “turn & burn” tables like you’d see at many other restaurants. At Nick’s you are encouraged to sit back and savor your meal. No part of your meal will be rushed in any way. I had the Veal Parmesan with sun dried tomato risotto. It was a very generous portion. My husband had the Beef Wellington, which was the evening’s special, with grilled asparagus. Everything was delicious. We will certainly be back! A final note, card payments incur a processing fee. If you pay with cash you avoid that fee.

Yelp
Another great experience at Nick's earlier this week! It has been 7-8 years since I visited Nick's and I had forgotten how exceptional this place is! We had reservations for Sister and me last Tuesday when the tornadoes were rolling around North Alabama, to celebrate her birthday a couple of days late. The weather was a benefit for us because everyone but us cancelled their reservations in the non-smoking dining room - meaning, we had the whole place to ourselves! We both got the 6 oz filets, and I mentioned to our server that I wanted mine seared on the outside and medium internally. He says, "Oh that's Pittsburgh style," which I had never heard of. Sister got her's "Pittsburgh style" too with medium-rare as her temp. Both steaks were seared beautifully and absolutely exceptional quality! I didn't have to add any salt/pepper or use the sauce they provided. A really sweet gesture was the birthday card waiting for us on our two-top! We ordered appetizers to share: fried green tomatoes and crab cakes. Both were great with my preference being the crab cakes, although I'll ask them to sear them more when I return. Our side salads (Caesar for me and house for Sister) were fresh and delicious! They've stopped serving the bread sticks when you are seated and instead serve fresh bread (a slicked roll). Sister loved her lemon dessert! Their pinot grigio was a steal, at I think $24.00/bottle and was good! Our server was so attentive, replacing all silverware with each course, using that hand-held "sweeper" to capture any crumbs on the table and keeping my vino topped off. He was kind to keep us posted on the tumultuous weather on his phone and by checking the TVs in the adjacent dining room/cigar room/bar. It was lovely to see the Chef, our classmate Joey, and visit with him and to have the dining room all to ourselves! Thanks, Nick's for making another wonderful memory! I look forward to future visits!

Yelp
The hubs booked a reservation at Nick's for my birthday date night dinner a few years ago, and we've been back for date nights ever since!! From the unassuming outside, you wouldn't know that Nick's has (IMHO) some of the most delicious and authentic chicken Parmesan I've ever had, or one of the tenderest, juiciest, flavorful bone-in ribeyes cooked to perfection you can glide your knife through! But the step through the door of Nick's to discover the cozy and comfortable ambiance, and I love how it feels like you're stepping into an exclusive speakeasy! The waitstaff is attentive, personable, and professional, the food is beyond amazing, and if you're looking to have a nice, quiet and intimate experience, book reservations at Nick's!! They have an executive chef and the specials rotate often between delicious beef dishes, seafood, pastas and more! There is a beautiful cigar bar attached for the cigar aficionados (but smoking not allowed in the main dining room!). Give Nick's a call (reservations encouraged) for a date night, special occasion, or just because! You will NOT be disappointed!!

Yelp
Food is amazing! Drinks are delicious. Staff are super friendly. The ambiance is chill and unique. Great weekly specials

Yelp
Great as usual. A little attitude from our server when I asked a question about the special. Was kinda odd and arrogant, but didn't ruin the evening.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was good atmosphere was great felt like we were rushed out towards the end of the night.

Yelp
I've lived in Huntsville 17 years, last night was the first time trying Nick's. What have I been doing? The filet melted in my mouth, and was cooked to perfection, roasted veggies were awesome, and the dessert great too. I can't wait to try it on a regular night! Thanks for making our night special!

Lee C.

Yelp
Awesome food service we are regulars. We go every special occasion and they have a way of making it special.

Yelp
Finally ate here for our anniversary. I called in a reservation several weeks ago. One thing I find odd is that they have a smoking and non smoking section. I'm not sure how they really get away with that now days. They have a lot going on their menu. I also noticed they had card son tables for anniversaries, but forgot ours. They did bring one after we mentioned it. They have a bar, but didn't have a cocktail menu. They do a have decent wine list. We started with the cheese stuffed meatball appetizer. It came out and they weren't hot. There also wasn't a lot of cheese inside. I don't think I'd get that again. For the entree, I got the small filet with the daily risotto and a spring salad. I wasn't disappointed. That was great! My husband got the duck and loved it. We didn't have time for dessert because we had to leave to make it to a show, but hopefully we can try some next time. Their bathrooms are super cute and they even had mints by the sink.
google avatar

Korda W.

Yelp
Great food and owner came to our table and gave us a free dessert because it was our anniversary.
google avatar

Terry F.

Yelp
We are partial to Nick's as our go to restaurant for a nice evening out as the food is consistently good, the service very attentive and the wine list fairly priced, although we will admit that we usually bring our own wine and pay the corkage fee. Nick's is just the perfect small restaurant atmosphere that gives you the feeling of being welcomed, that you are truly a guest and that they want you to enjoy the evening. The steaks are great, but we usually default to Italian when we go. You can't go wrong either way. Definitely one of the better choices for a night out in Huntsville. Another plus for us, but something perhaps not for others is that they do not allow children.
google avatar

Yelp
I would of loved to say how wonderful this restaurant is, however date night took a turn do to the overwhelming smoke that engulfed the atmosphere. Which I can tolerate up to a point but when it taints everything around it, it will no longer be about culinary experience because it is marred. We gave up our reservation after sitting down at the table and both realized it wasn't going to happen no matter what the food tasted like. We enjoyed our meal at the Purveyor instead (highly recommend)
google avatar

Garth N.

Yelp
Took my mom there while she was in town visiting. They were gracious enough to find us a reservation on late notice for Friday night. The food was fantastic. The lamb, pumpkin swordfish and steak all were great. One thing to note however is that they have a smoking section on one side of the restaurant and while it's not too bad you definitely can smell the smoke.
google avatar

Gordon T.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing place. Service is always top notch, environment is always classy, clean and inviting. To say the food is always amazing would be an understatement. I always get the bone in ribeye with a crab leg with risotto and it never disappoints. Might be a little pricy but well worth the few extra dollars you will spend for a quality night out with someone you care about.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Excellent service. They remember your name and take time to personalize your experience. Excellent food. Best in Huntsville!

Dan P.

Yelp
We have been coming here for many years to celebrate special occasions. While there is a formal dining room, we prefer the bar tables where we can enjoy their frequent live entertainment. We love the bruschetta and goat cheese fondue for appetizers and the steak entrees. Be aware that the bar is smoking but has a good smoke scrubber system so it is tolerable for us.

Yelp
Again this is one of those places that I really want to love but they just keep being underwhelming. The food has always been good, really good, in fact but the experience has always been, um, not great. At first I just hated the fact that they were smoking, no judgment but I just don't want to go home smelling like it but YMMV. They have fixed the issues that they had with one part of the restaurant being smoking and the other non smoking so I was pleased and looking forward to another visit. We went with 2 other folks and got there early so I ordered a drink and waited for our buddies to get there to order food. After glancing at the menu I knew what I wanted as a snack with cocktails but the waiter had other ideas. "No I'm sorry ma'am our chef wants the entire order at once FOR YOUR DINING PLEASURE ". Well I'm sorry, I just want to order my cocktail, bottle of wine and appetizer now. Oh, you INSIST that I order my dinner right now as well? Fine, I'll just have my appetizer as my dinner. Oh, you don't like that answer? Well then don't freaking rush me! "But it's to better serve you" he said, "so that you don't have to wait and get behind the other tables as they order. That way your dinner comes out quickly!" Welllllll, I looked around at the other THREE tables in the dining room, 8 people in total, and told him I thought we could chance being in the back of the line foodwise. When he dropped of my steak tartare that I had the audacity to order before I had decided on my whole order, he sniffed down his nose and said, "You'll never guess what is on top of the steak tartare. I've never had anyone know and I've been working here for years." I knew before I even tasted it and he looked just crestfallen when I told him what it is. I don't know if it's a power trip with this guy, if he's just a giant jackass, a complete misogynist or just wants to be home for the 8 o'clock news but he thinks he's all that AND a bag of chips but I will walk out if I'm treated this way again! As far as the food went it was wonderful but even the best chef can't make up for a jerk of a waiter. No, seriously, the food was excellent and I thanked the chef as we left. We'll come back because my buddy loves the place but if I'm treated as if I'm there for the waitstaff again I'm paying for my drink and leaving.

Yelp
Hey what can I say that hasn't already been said the food is exceptionally horrible.Service was not prepared t all not even recognizes customers.

Nancy Kate B.

Yelp
Been going to Nicks for years. Best steak in town, friendly staff, romantic atmosphere & great deals throughout the week.

Jaymes C.

Yelp
Age requirement at a restaurant is kind of odd. I get it not everyone wants to be around kids, but not everyone has a babysitter for their 4 month old. Food looks good, place looks nice, hope to try it one day. Maybe they'll consider doing a family night.
google avatar

Shaun L.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere with great fresh bread and really good steaks. People have complained about cigar smoke, but I didn't smell any whatsoever.

Ernest R.

Yelp
My wife and I have visited a few times. It has become our favorite Italian restaurant. The meals and service are always excellent. We have had steaks and pasta and have not been disappointed.

Robin H.

Yelp
Wonderful food service and atmosphere. We've dinned in and gotten take out from the bar both were excellent

Marshall P.

Yelp
Delicious, generous. Friendly, attentive. Beautiful setting. -------------------------//////

Yelp
Veal marsala was great, as was the service. Good ambiance. All that being said, I couldn't get past the strong cigar smell. Probably won't be back for that reason.

Teresa M.

Yelp
Super classy place. Would definitely recommend for a Valentines date. Tasty foods. Portions are more than enough. Upper scale prices.

Yelp
Steak and drinks were really good. Bar is fun. Locals kind of place. Been around forever. Family owned business which I like.

Yelp
We eat here once a month for date night and I love the ambiance, the service is by far the most hospitable and the food is always fresh and perfectly cooked!

Yelp
Well, once again I have to against popular option. I dined at Nick's hoping for a great steak and I got a steak.. that was barley OK... OK I love the atmosphere, the ability to enjoy a cigar before or after dinner, the service was great, no issues with staff or anyone working at Nick's. If I was just rating the service and atmosphere it would be a 5 star rating for sure. But, I am rating them on the food as well.... I had the bone in ribeye , Caesar salad (which was a 3 dollar up charge. I would have agreed to it regardless, but I was not told ) and baked potato... The steak was cooked to perfection, the potato was excellent the salad was good... but back to the steak... more grizzle and fat than I was expecting for such a cut of meat and the price. The flavor was lacking. So the steak, the main reason I tried Nick's, was not all that good. I am hoping that I was just unlucky and got a bad cut that night. I do want to go back and try their Italian and Seafood offerings and maybe even another steak.... I am hoping they are as good as everyone else has rated them.

Catol T.

Yelp
Good food! Over priced. Quiet until large loud group came in this small Resturant. I loved the ambience but doubt we will return due to smokey smell. Sad. Perhaps they should convert the cigar room into a private large gathering space for groups.
google avatar

Molly E.

Yelp
We've visited Nick's on several occasions. It is always delicious food and great service. Highly recommended to all who love great steaks and good times.
google avatar

Yelp
I love Nick's. Always a great dinning experience. Warm atmosphere. Terrific staff. Delicious food, soup to nuts.

Steve S.

Yelp
Best restaurant in Hsv. Great food & exceptional service. Nick's has an intimate feel that reminds me of some restaurants in NYC.
google avatar

Paula T.

Yelp
Amazing!! Staff, food, cocktails, and ambiance are great! Be sure to call for reservation on the weekend!

Shannon L.

Yelp
Hands down the best meal I've ever eaten. The wait staff were professional and so friendly, but the food: there aren't words. I've spent more for less. My only critique whatsoever is the subtle smoke smell, even in the "non-smoking room", but we adjusted quickly. My filet was second to none - my wife's bone-in ribeye, same. Our sides were flavorful in ways I didn't think possible. Even our salad was incredible. We will definitely be back, & soon!
google avatar

Karin H.

Yelp
Best restaurant in Huntsville! Every single thing I have ever eaten there has been great.
google avatar

Tim E.

Yelp
Nick is a great person. He donated a gift card to help support a fund raiser Golf Tournament I sponsored to support the Wounded Warriors Program back in 2012. I was able to raise $1000 for our wounded Hero's. Thanks, Nick

Ken J.

Yelp
When they found out my wife was in a wheelchair, they dissuaded us from even trying the place out. So can't say anything about the food, just they weren't very accommodating.
google avatar

Dana D.

Yelp
First of all... If you are a non-smoker, this is not the place for you. I knew going in there was a "smoking section", I did not expect the entire restaurant to reek of smoke. Once the hairs in my nose burned completely off, I decided the food, which I had heard was EXCELLENT, would make up for not being able to smell. I started with a Caesar salad that had to be the driest Caesar salad I've ever had in my life! The Parmesan chesse looked and tasted like the kind that comes in the green bottle not fresh Parmesan. I had a veal dish that was quite good. However, my husband's ribeye was okay at best. I truly don't mean any offense by this statement, but I think people who say this is the best steak in town must be smokers with impaired tastebuds. We've had better steaks at Outback. Maybe our expectations were just too high, but we were disappointed and we do not plan on going back. Another shocking discovery... They charge a 4% "convenience fee" when you pay with a credit or debit card. How are people paying for their $130 meals (with no apps or drinks!) if they are not using a card? Checks? Cash? That seemed very odd. The best part of the meal? The vanilla crème brûlée. It was tiny, but it was delicious.

Alison J.

Yelp
The restaurant could use some ambiance, provided by the new owner that rates the amount of money collected by the server. There is a definite need for Italian restaurants in Huntsville and Madison. I preferred the pasta sauce deep red and worthy of the title, "Sunday Gravy" provided to recovering Italians.

Johnathon T.

Yelp
Outstanding food great service convenient parking and awesome poeple........... .......

Greg E.

Yelp
This was our first visit and was a result of a cancellation at an opportune time for our party of 4. What a great find! The food quality and taste was second only to the absolute superb service. Excellent Italian dishes, great wine selections as well as a full bar for cocktails of your choice. We will be back
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
The food was phenomenal and the service excellent! The eggplant parm is definitely worth a try! We will certainly be back!

Holly G.

Yelp
Personal favorite. Cannot find a better steak anywhere else. My only complaint is it's basically a smoking restaurant. Would definitely be a better experience if it was nonsmoking or better ventilated.
google avatar

Sue W.

Yelp
A nice local restaurant. Great waiters. Steak is the specialty so I had a filet. It was very tender but could have used a little more seasoning. The lemon pillow dessert was to die for! Yum! I'm sure the adjoining bar is a draw but the cigarette smoke in the dining room was a definite put off for me. It was a nonsmoking room but the doors to the other side were opened a lot. I won't return because of that.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Simply the best steak in town. Tom Chapman, (hates being called chef) has really solidified his culinary chops @ Nick's. The entire staff is gracious and knowledgeable, the food delicious and inventive, super cocktails. 6 out of 5 stars!!!

J C.

Yelp
Great food, old-school, Cheers-like atmosphere. Had a great time meeting everyone.

Phil P.

Yelp
Over rated. Servers are rude. It's a "fine dining" restaurant in a strip mall. Went there for an anniversary dinner and was insulted by the wait staff. Food was under seasoned and overpriced. Nice bar and love that you can have a cigar, but MUCH better restaurants in Huntsville. Second star for being allowed a cigar.
google avatar

Nancy N.

Yelp
It was my first visit to this restaurant- didn't realize that we had such an upscale place so close to home! The atmosphere is of very classy old-fashioned place that values its customers and proud of the experience they provide

Shante F.

Yelp
A friend wanted to try out this restaurant to celebrate her birthday. She reserved a table for 10 people 6 showed up. From the time our waiter greeted our table we were met with a rude sarcastic attitude. Everyone ordered one of the signature drinks on the menu they were all HORRIBLE! Typically I try not to send items back but the drink was absolutely the worst. I then placed an order for a regular house Long Island and never received it. The wait for food was extremely long, but while service sucked the food wasn't bad a few of us ordered the lollipop lamb chops while a couple others chose the steak which they stated wasn't the best they'd ever had but was too bad either. We sat with empty glasses and weren't checked on or asked if we needed anything. We flagged the waiter down to ask for our checks it took 15 or so mins for us to receive them. We were charged a tax on each food item in addition to a sales tax at the bottom of the check. Gratuity was added for parties over 8 we had a party of 6. We voiced our concerns with our server who without hearing us out just went to grab the manger. He comes out explaining some nonsense and mid sentence stops himself as says wait I'm not making any sense. He states tax was added the tax for the use of a card prior to knowing our methods of payment. Even says they taxed us because of lost money with us not having the full party of 10. The restaurant wasn't very busy btw. He takes the checks to the back to fix them. My friend questioned the gratuity and the manager then began to swear at her and throws a tantrum at the group causing a scene. He states you ppl don't have to pay for anything, and yes we were all minorities. At this point we're irate! I state out loud thats ok I'll just write a Yelp review I hear another staff member repeat what I stated and seconds later the same manager returns to apologize for our visit and the way he behaved stating they were having a bad day and he took it out in us. They did take care of our entire bill. I'll give the food a 7 out 10, service a negative 10...but wouldn't recommend this place for minorities.
