The Best Poke in Honolulu: 11 Restaurants to Hit | Eater

"For the closest poke to Honolulu’s fish auction, head to Nico’s. The business began as a takeout counter on the pier in 2004, but has since grown into an expansive sit-down restaurant, including an adjacent fish market. You’ll find about two dozen trays of premixed poke in the refrigerated case, including kim chee tako and spicy scallop, as well as classic poke flavors applied to fresh, local fish, including ‘ahi, aku, tombo (albacore), and marlin." - Martha Cheng

Fantastic poke bowls with fresh flavorful fish and other seafood specialities. I go back everytime I am at JBPHH. These pictures are from two separate occasions this past week.

Open till 1600 (4pm), arrived at 3:24pm, door open and went in. Lady came out from back and yelled "we're closed" harshly. Mentioned to her sign says open till 4 and door was open, she yelled "get out, tomorrow's a holiday". I apologized, and said I was sorry to bother her, shen said she was sorry sarcasticly, I then said she should not apologize if she did not mean it, she replied, "you're right, I don't mean it". Never ate their and never plan to with that attitude.

How anyone could give Nico’s Hickam any less than a 5 stars blows my mind. The quality of Nico’s fish is the best on Oahu! And the merch store inside is awesome! Don’t hesitate to come here - I don’t know what the other reviewers here are talking about - the workers were friendly and helpful! And for the guy that said goto the commissary to get a bowl - I bet you eat the frozen poke too! Gross! Never go to the commissary when Nico’s is right next door! Try it, you won’t regret it!

Stoked Nicos has a poke place on hickam next to the food court now! Easy and fast to grab a bowl and go!! Always fresh and full of flavors! My favorites are always the spicy ahi and salmon poke choices over salad :)

Made the mistake of eating lunch here on 14 August. $17 gets you a tiny serving of fish in a small bowl of rice. Pitiful. Who let them on this base? Do yourself a favor and grab much better priced fresh ahi bowl from the commissary. No go for me.

Poke bowl was great. Expensive but tasted great. Service was not good. She took my order like it was an inconvenience and then gave me a fork to eat my poke. Sorry it doesn’t taste right without using chopsticks.

This is a great spot on Hickam for poke bowls, plate lunches, and desserts.

Yelp
A piece of local grinds is on base! Hickam AF base has an express version of Nico's Pier 38, sandwiched along the Hickam PX main store (just follow Nico's signs...). Nico's menu is pretty straightforward--poke bowls, surf and turf (poke+kalua pork) bowls, and seafood sandwiches. Bowls come with either white rice, brown rice, or tossed green salad. They also sell chill dessert slices and usual plate lunch slices like mac salad. Nico's hits the spot if you want local food and to support a local business without leaving base. Technically, all Commissary stores on the island sell poke, but ordering from a local restaurant hits differently, y'know? A heads up, if you order the surf and turf bowl with tossed salad, the salad may end up watery from the kalua pork juices. I didn't mind as I was trying to limit my carb intake from rice! During my first visit a few months, I noticed bags upon bags of takeout orders. Yesterday, I found out they're available for online ordering through the Clover mobile app. So convenient. For those of us with military base access who are tired of the same old national chain restaurants for lunch, Nico's is a great choice. Right beside Nico's is a Tea Cafe, the same boba shop along Aiea Heights!

Yelp
Nico's serves up solid poke, especially for being on base. The fish was fresh and the flavors were well-balanced. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Yelp
Stoked to see a Nicos Fish Market on base! Super convenient to have it next to Hickams Food court! A lighter lunch option to have poke over salad!

Yelp
The fish definitely wasn't fresh, I got the bottom of the rice pot fish was stringy. One of the worst plate i had in my life(Seared Ahi Plate). I would add a star but it wasn't worth a single star. Well it wasnt worth the single star
