Where To Eat And Drink By The Water In Boston

"If camping were allowed on the Esplanade, we’d pitch a tent next to the Owl’s Nest all summer so we’d never have to leave. Sure, we wouldn’t have the best personal hygiene, but who cares about a few deer ticks when you have beers from one of the city’s best breweries and rotating food at your tent flap? Don’t let summer slip away until you’ve spent at least one evening here as the sun sets on the Charles." - joel ang, dan secatore

Where to Watch the Boston 4th of July Fireworks in 2023

"Night Shift Beer Garden Esplanade is a prime spot from which to view the fireworks and throw back a few craft brews. The sprawling space accommodates 400 people at a time, so even if there is a line to get in, chances are that it will move quickly."

Best Family-Friendly Brewery Patios and Beer Gardens Around Boston | Eater Boston

"Located along the Esplanade (between Berkeley and Clarendon streets), this Night Shift beer garden offers Charles River views; an assortment of beers, hard seltzers, wine, and other drinks; and food from Brato Brewhouse. Outside food is also permitted. Unlike the Everett location (see above), this location is not currently dog-friendly. No reservations." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Google
Always a fun time at the night shift owl’s nest. They have a great beer selection along with seltzers and non-alcoholic drink options. Located right next to the Charles river you get an amazing view. Great place to bike or walk up and spend some time drinking outdoors. Be careful of the mosquitoes after a rainy day. They have many porta potty’s and hand wash stations making it easy to use to bathroom. There is always a nice foot truck around from when they open to almost close. If you are taking an uber here it will be hard to stop on the road and find the place.

We had to run away it smelled so bad. They obviously haven't changed out their toilets in so long that the entire place smelled like stank. Obviously the management doesn't care but it was bad. It looked like everybody was trying to avoid the smell . Too bad cuz the place was my a nice Vibe.

It's always pleasant to enjoy beer, food and the atmosphere by the river during the sunset in the summer. Be prepared to share a table with nice people 'cause they just had the same nice idea of beer and pizza by the river.

The server told us not to move chairs but didn't say anything when they saw others moving the chair. Food truck was great. Don't recommend imusing toilets here.

Google
Beautiful Sunday to take a stroll in the park then stop by Night Shift Brewery to enjoy some cold draft beers. Service was good, atmosphere was great and beer was also good. Enjoyed several round before continuing the stroll back. Great option at the park to enjoy the view, day and some good beer with family and friends. Give it a try to do something different.

Google
Kind of a bummer given the nice location, but the beer was terrible. Like, I had to put mine down without finishing it bad. The “zesty lager” left a bitter, chemical taste in my mouth and an unpleasant film at the back of my throat. My partner’s sour tasted like gas station candy.

Google
If you go, double-check your bank statement. I flagged an overcharge, followed up twice, and never heard a word from Night Shift. Cool spot. Would’ve been 5/5, even with the thieving. But I have to take off three stars for ghosting my three emails. ⭐️⭐️👻👻👻

July 2024: Nice outdoor environment next to the charles river. The esplanade has a small selection of drinks with all outdoor seating. They offer a menu of food to be delivered to the location, didn’t have a kitchen at the time. It’s an active city and they have a small area to park your bike, which is great! Prime location for bug bites so keep that in mind.

Yelp
What a cool spot. Having never been to The Espanade, this place just wow'ed me - and to have a beer garden literally right on site? With so much variety too? And perfectly charred pizzas made-to-order? Sign me the frick up dude. The vibes here are immaculate - most beautiful view I could have asked for. Pristine views of the water, plenty of space to socialize, quick and responsive service from all working here. If I lived in Boston, I tell you - I would be here all the time. My wallet is thankful I do not :)

Yelp
Honestly a pretty cool spot. Limited seating so be prepared to stand for a bit. Beer options lean heavily towards IPAs (such is finr with me!) But I think a lot of other options are simply sold out. (This place was BUMPING when I came) Service was friendly and quick, even when the line got super long. Would love to come back and have a drink near the water

Yelp
Not a beer drinker but am a fan of waterfront areas where you can hang with friends, imbibe some beverages, and eat tasty pizza. I've always passed by the Night Shift stop along the river in Brighton - this location offers the same set-up. Picnic tables, ID check-in at the entrance, beer on tap, Porta Potties, even a bike stand and, last but not least, a Si Cara pizza truck! Luckily we didn't have to wait too long before a table opened up for our group; there's space to stand if everything's taken. I loved the sparkling rose they have on their menu - didn't get the name but it was immensely drinkable and I'm not even a rose person. I was more interested in the pizza which tasted even better than when I had it at their actual restaurant. Really chewy dough, nice uniformly distributed toppings. Prices are definitely steep - pepperoni pie was $21, margherita I think $18. They also sell by the slice but those were sold out by the time we got there. Overall a very relaxing spot to while away a beautiful weekend afternoon. Just expect a bit of a wait for a table if you're with a large group.

Yelp
Came here shortly after noon on a Sunday and was surprised it wasn't busier, given the weather was pretty decent. Really cool spot along the riverfront. Our daughter had just fallen asleep in her wagon and we had been walking a couple miles and craved refreshment. Finding the entrance to the beer garden was a bit trickier than it should have been. The space is great, large outdoor space that is fenced in with plenty of tables, games, porta pottys, and waste bins. Seemed dog friendly since we saw a couple. Definitely a good spot to let the kids stretch their legs in a controlled manner. Beer selection was pretty good and service was quick. We grabbed a couple beers and while they mainly seem focused on hoppy beer they did offer a couple others. My wife really loved her hazy and my IPA was pretty good. Great little stop off to relax along the water.

Yelp
Tiniest, minuscule, smallest, microscopic, miniature, teeny weeny pour of Red Prism wine. Served in a teeny weeny thin plastic 4OZ cup for $10.75 An utter waste of money.

Yelp
went last night, cute and fun place on the esplanade! Got red wine and it was yum, and pretty crowded. 4 stars bc they ran out of water but overall fun cute beer garden

Yelp
Not bad! Especially on a nice day, you have a awesome view of the Charles. Drinks were about pub priced, maybe a dollar or two more. Porta-potties only, if that is a concern. There is food but we didn't get any cause it was a bit pricey.

Yelp
definitely pricey and cute use more seating but on a nice night this is such a cute place to be. the river was lovely and so many people were out with their dogs i loved it

Yelp
Beers are good but bike parking is so limited that youre SOL if you bike here. Even less bike parking than last year.

Yelp
This pop-up was totally worth stopping at during our walk along the esplanade. The views of the river were fantastic and the ambiance was so pleasant. On a Sunday, the place was extremely busy and we were barely able to snag a picnic table (the tables are large, so if you're a small group, be prepared to share with another party). Not all of them had umbrellas either, so it was tough to get a spot in the shade. My friend got the Furth and my boyfriend and I both got the Lychee Papaya Hoot Hard Seltzer, which was fantastic. They also had a food truck onsite, but we didn't check it out. Would return though!

Yelp
Really cute spot to grab some drinks and hang outside with friends. It's a completely outdoor area with picnic tables and string lights right next to the river. Very casual spot with a few foot trucks for munchies. They had a great selection of beers and two seltzer options that were gluten free. The service was friendly.

Yelp
This is a nice cute vibe if you're out in the esplanade. They have pretty good beers but not many options for food. They take card and there is limited seating. But there are standing tables available and the overall place is cute.

Michael O.

Yelp
Used to love this place, but they just reduced the size of their cups without changing prices. $9 for a 12-oz beer is overpriced.

Kenny W.

Yelp
A solid place for a good beer right by the esplanade river. It's a very relaxing environment and there's a lot of picnic benches to sit on. I'm not even a big beer person, but the beer here was worth coming again. The service was great too, and they have good recommendations.

Yelp
We stopped by this brewery after we were walking along the esplanade enjoying the beautiful day. We each got the Blue Comet and loved it. The employee that helped us was kind and chatted about Boston with us. It was very popular with young millennials and is a cool place to hang out on a Saturday. Our only issue was that we wished there was more seating available because it was pretty limited.

Yelp
Such a fun summer time experience especially right on the Charles! There's a bunch of options, I got the whirlpool, but that's because I didn't realize they had a cider! There is a food truck stationed there and I highly recommend. We got a few tater tot orders and I got the roasted mushroom tacos. The order comes with two tacos and they were delish.

Yelp
You can't beat the view. Sitting between the river and the Boston skyline. The beer selection is outstanding with over a dozen beers on draft. And the on-site food truck makes perfect snacks to pair with it. Beers are going to run you about $8-9 a beer. The biggest negative is there are limited numbers of tables with shade (limited numbers of tables in general). I'm not sure why they don't invest in more umbrellas. If we had shade we would have stayed longer and bought twice as much. Overall, I'd highly recommend.

Yelp
Such a shame that a nice place was ruined by such terrible service. The staff here was nothing but rude. They made wrong and questionable assumptions about my group which were upsetting and enough to warrant me never returning to this location. Deeply disappointed. On my way out while trying to unlock my bike I was even told to "get better friends." I respect and support my friends and was shocked to be told this. Every criticism they made of my party was unfounded and rude. We respected the staff throughout our time and were met with horrible comments even after we had left the venue. I have never experienced something like this before. It is very sad to me that people would go so out of their way to be mean. What is the point?Would not recommend this place at all!!! Definitely just pack a picnic and go to the esplanade - it is much nicer! Unless you want to be insulted for no reason...
