LA’s New Restaurant Openings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Niko Sando is a minimalist-looking Japanese sandwich shop in Brentwood that just does four types of no-crust milk bread sandwiches: katsu, wagyu, egg salad, and fruit. Each one looks compact and clean-edged, like they were assembled with a ruler. The space is almost as simple as the menu, with terra-cotta tiles that remind us of a sauna and a small patio out front." - cathy park

The Best New Under-the-Radar Restaurant Openings in Loss Angeles, June 2025 | Eater LA

"A daytime Japanese sando spot offering a simple lineup of four sandwiches — katsu sando, egg salad sando, fruit sando, and wagyu sando — each built on two slices of fluffy milk bread with the crust trimmed on two sides; it’s being embraced by diners who miss a beloved Echo Park sando shop and are looking for a worthy replacement." - Rebecca Roland

NIKÓ SANDO サンド

Google
I am a big fun of フルーツサンド(fruits sandwich), I buy them at department store food section in Japan every time I found them, so very glad to see Japanese sandwich place open nearby. Today I take out fruits sand and Chicken Katsu sand, both are very delicious, a bread is fluffy and fresh, whipping cream and fruits are very fresh and high quality, and Chicken Katsu sand has very good seasoning and all delicious! A cafe next door seems same owner, so I will try a coffee together next time.

Google
Cute sandwich spot with a variety of Japanese style sandwiches. Has limited outdoor seating. Menu is available via QR code outside and also indoors. QR code goes to the Toast site but ordering from it wasn't working. They do have a Toast order kiosk inside. My sando was tasty! Looking forward to trying the others.

Google
I loved this place so much!! The bread that they use for the sandwiches is the authentic Japanese milk bread — you will immediately taste the difference. I have never found this bread served anywhere in America, only Japan.

Google
Definitely not like Japan, but the food was good and unique as compared to everything else around town. Don’t expect typical Japanese SANDO, but I enjoyed the chicken sandwich. The egg sandwich was underwhelming, but not bad. I think I just had higher expectations after visiting Japan, but a great add to Brentwood

Google
Had the egg sandwich and the pistachio chocolate fried sandwich and they were so good. Great portions, will definitely come back to try more options!

Google
The katsu sando was good but the size was deceiving and a little disappointing. The photos from the restaurant show 4 big pieces of chicken while in reality you will be given 3 very small pieces of katsu(maybe a half breast total). The staff is very kind and the place is clean but for $16, not a lot is keeping me from going to Nijiya to get double the katsu for half the price.

Google
If you’re craving a Japanese-style sandwich, Niko Sando in Brentwood is a must. Their katsu sandwich is crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor, while the bread is soft and slightly sweet. The vibe inside is sleek and modern, but the staff is down-to-earth and welcoming. It’s a small spot, so I recommend grabbing your food to go if you’re in a rush. Delicious and fast!

Google
Attached to Malou Coffee. Great place for a bite if you're hungry and want a meal to pair with your matcha or Coffee. I had the COD (fish katsu) with a side of chicken karaage. They also have chicken katsu and a selection of fruit sandwiches too. I would come back. Cool place and a chill atmosphere.

Yelp
The tiniest little shop that packs a punch in the sando department. This hidden gem (no seriously, the name is hidden by the umbrellas out front that cover the seating area) shares a building with a coffee shop and both are great. You walk in, consult the menu and use the kiosk to order. Vegetarians rejoice (the non-ovo kind)! They have a mushroom toast that is absolutely delicious. I'd get that again for sure. The bread is thick and flavorful, mushrooms and onions cooked perfectly. A lot of great textures and flavors, served with a tiny arugula salad. Ovo-indulging vegetarians, the egg sando is delicious. For any of my jet setters that have traveled to Japan, it's comparable, even has that orange yolk. The major difference: you're paying $16 a sandwich instead of $2. Everybody loves dessert! They have some fried and non-fried sandwiches. We got the fried pistachio and Nutella sandwich and the fried banana one. If you're not in the mood for savory, at the least, try the sweet ones! There are non-fried strawberries and cream as well. I will say, the fried ones, you cannot have often. You can kinda taste the oil and it is HEAVY. I wish the Nutella and bananas wasn't just the top of the slice but actually inside the toast. Almost too much cream but still delicious. They gave us the wrong sandwich and luckily remade it (thank you!) but then we had 3 fried dessert ones total and this was just too much. Definitely great to have at least once.

Yelp
Little sando shop tucked away in Brentwood. Parking was difficult due to street parking being in residential area. Aesthetically, it was very neat. Seating area a little exposed to the sun though. The boxes that the sandos come out in is pretty neat. It is contactless ordering as well. Food wise, egg sando is what it is known for but was kinda bit to dry. Ordering a drink is recommended. The katsu was better but the taste still leaves room for more. Overall not too bad. But missing that 5% for the 5 star.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting this unique type of Japanese food--delicious sandwiches served warm or cold. I'd seen these dessert sandwiches in anime and recently spotted the egg version at the Japanese Food Fair in OC. Absolutely delicious Service is fast and simple, strictly takeout. The charming ambiance makes it great for a date or a family visit. It was my first time here; I only tried the chicken sandwich, but I'm looking forward to trying the egg and strawberry next time Also worth noting: the wooden silverware adds a nice touch.

Yelp
Fear not, the crowds are for the coffee shop next door. You walk inside, place your order on a screen and then check out the beautiful people having coffee while you wait for your order. After a few minutes, they text you and hand over a box or two of yummy sandwiches.

Yelp
Chicken katsu sandwich was definitely the star. The egg salad one was good but wouldn't go back for it. Want to try the fish one next time :)

Yelp
Went to Nikó sando for the first time today(october 4th,2025)and it was a letdown. Our order (#27) was missing the karaage side we got with a sandwich. Got home and realized it, but couldn't find a phone number anywhere--not on their website, Yelp, or Instagram. I even checked other sites and sent a message through the Toast order confirmation, but no response yet. Super annoying to miss part of our order and have no way to get in touch. Hope the shop sees this and give us a refund. Make sure to check on your orders!

Yelp
The cutest traditional sandwich shop!! The ambiance is beautiful and the fruit is so fresh! The kindest people, and the chicken sandwich is so memorable. Thank you Niko Sando!

Yelp
Wow. So disappointing. I used to live in Tokyo and this sandwich place is near my house in Brentwood. The sandwiches were underwhelming. I tried both chicken and fish. The fish and the chicken was super thin especially the side pieces. And they were massively overpriced. I am going to go back and try again bc I can't believe this place is this bad.

Yelp
Simple concept executed really well. We had the egg salad and katsu - both were amazing. We also got the mushroom open face sandwich, which was good, but I liked the other two much more. It was quick to place our order and the food came out quickly. I only interacted with a person when I grabbed my food and he was in such a great mood it made my mood even better. I was initially bummed to see their whipped cream for the fruit sandwiches was almond based and didn't order one because I'm allergic. It was only after I got my food that I saw a note that they can use regular whipped cream. I was going back regardless, but now I definitely must try the strawberry sandwich. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Delicious!!! Sandwiches melt in your mouth. You go up to order on a kiosk and sit outside. Cute little boxes to go.

Yelp
We tried the Katsu, Egg Salad, and Tuna sandos, and all were excellent. The Katsu was a standout. We'll definitely be back. Don't worry about the line outside - it's for the coffee shop next door. You order from a screen, and the wait is usually around 10 minutes. Nice spot.
