The Best Restaurants for Valentine’s Day in New York City

"This Mediterranean Dumbo newcomer is providing a full night of entertainment, beginning with cocktails, moving on to a seated dinner with live band, and culminating with a DJ driven party, all for $100. Among the culinary highlights are beef kabobs served on cinnamon sticks with tahini; tuna ceviche; fish shawarma; chicken skewers; pita tacos with slow cooked short rib stew; and warm Nutella babka." - Beth Landman

NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"The team behind Foragers Market, a longstanding organic grocer in Dumbo, is back in the same space with Nina, which serves Mediterranean food to a small army of up to 162 diners across a few differently themed rooms. They’re open and spinning vinyl until 1am, so this could be a good option for Dumbo locals looking for a late meal or a nightcap. " - Will Hartman, Willa Moore

We had a good dinner here. It was loud and they were out of at least one of the cocktails. The Avocado Warm Rice Stack was delicious and I also enjoyed the eggplant schnitzel. My friend got the pasta with meatballs and the portion size was very small.

I came from Williamsburg to Dumbo because my poor husband wanted to have Isreali food on Saturday and our favorite restaurant was close on that day. He didn't do much research so when we saw the menu, we realize Nina is an Israeli American kind of place, not authentic. Price point is tourist! pricy but not that great quality, lol. Honestly, I don't mind going to tourist place if the food is good but I'm sorry to say, the local like me isn't impress with the food at all. - Hummus: pricy for side dish - Skirt Steak: it was ok - Tavern Fish: I love whole fish but they didn't do the good job, too fishy, didn't taste fresh and pricy, not worth! - desert spirited: special drink, it is ok, nice to try. - cheesecake: mehhhh Overall: the location is in tourist attractions area, open on Saturday for Isreali place. Fusion and pricy.

Cute location and lovely staff. The drinks and ambiance were great. I have to say though, I was a little bit disappointed with the food. Found that it was a bit under seasoned, and the portion size was so small for the pricing. Definitely better than the average restaurant in Dumbo, but not dying to go back.

Last night's dinner at Nina was nothing short of magical! From the moment we walked in, Dana, the host, made us feel like we were the only guests there. His graciousness and efficiency in managing our evening were exceptional, making us feel instantly welcomed. Our waitress, Brie, was a delight. She was knowledgeable and patient, guiding us through the menu with her thoughtful suggestions. Her attentiveness made our meal even more enjoyable, as she perfectly timed each course to suit our pace. The ambiance at Nina is ideal for a romantic or special occasion. We originally planned a photo shoot in the scenic Dumbo area and decided to dine at Nina afterward. It turned out to be the perfect choice, allowing us to capture beautiful moments and enjoy a fabulous meal. I'm already looking forward to our next visit and would highly recommend Nina to anyone seeking a beautiful setting with outstanding service and delicious cuisine. Dana and Brie, thank you for making our evening unforgettable!

I popped in for a couple bites on Tuesday, and was pleasantly surprised by their special Taco Tuesday pita menu!🥙 The Eggplant taco was delightful, and had an incredible texture combined with the cabbage. The Mahi Mahi taco, truly melted in my mouth and the prime rib was cooked to perfection and was so hearty. I also had a side of the guacamole and salsa, which was unreal. So delicious and refreshing somehow? Just, you have to try it for yourself. I never planned on eating so much, but I had just gone for a run, so it was well deserved. 😆 Anyway, I will definitely be back for more pitas, because pita tacos are truly genius.

We first visited just after the opening and the experience was horrible. The serving staff didn’t know what they were doing, they were sloppy, almost no attention given. I visited again today for a quick bite and a drink. Some barely legal youngsters attending the bar. Again didn’t know what to do. I waited to place my order for almost 20 min, and the restaurant was almost empty. This kebab on the picture was pretty good though. Anyways, not sure I’m coming back anytime soon.

Recently opened on Tuesdays. They have an unique menu and it’s mind blowing. Best mix of Mexican food with Mediterranean cuisine! Applaud for the Chef

This place is ah-mazing on every level. The ambiance, service, and vibey music are top notch. The food is heavenly. The menu is 100% thoughtfully crafted. It's not just that everything is flavorful - the textures are so rich that every bite is an experience. My favorites are the avocado bruschetta and the mushroom cigar, the schnitzel and the chicken stew, and the chocolate mousse. The drinks here are masterful, and last night (when it was freezing outside) they brought me hot tea made with fresh mint not a tea bag. They are also extremely service animal friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely recommended.

Yelp
Like the saying goes at the right place, right time. My friend and I sat down, and it was during happy hour, which we loved, because of high-end drink menu we want to get in on the Happy hour. The first bartender was OK, but the second bartender, we'll he just the best. Double bars, one in the front entrance and second bar in the dining area. Great service, and the staff is very friendly and During our second rounds of cocktail, I decided to people watch as customers were coming in to be seated and recognized one of the actors, Alex, from the HBO Series White Lotus. Unfortunately, I am not able to add that we took together and also of her mom. It's a very busy spot due to their locations, so I recommend making a reservation. Since we didn't have a reservation, we only took advantage of the bar area. Overall, the service was great.

Yelp
Exceptionally solid Mediterranean with Morroccan/Israeli vibes. Not sure what the haters are talking about - the portions are more than generous and the prices are in-line with the neighborhood. This is not a hole-in-the wall place for falafel, where hard core foodies will battle it out for a cramped table and $4 hummus -- it has a tasty diverse menu that is fit for everything from evening snacks and drinks with friends to an early sit-down dinner with kids. This is exactly what a neighborhood restaurant should be -- big enough to not feel like you are taking over the place, and eclectic enough that you don't get bored. I really hope this place does well. Dumbo/BHeights desperately needs a decent Med place that isn't Italian (no offense Al Mar, you have your place). We went with younger kids and they loved the "spaghetti". The sardines were on point, the schnitzel good (N African spices crushed it) and the hummus super creamy (needed more bread, though). It's an ambitious venture as the space is pretty big (two bars is probably one too many), but the space is warm (get a booth by the windows) and staff is way more accommodating than your typical BK hipster joint. The way to keep DUMBO from falling (further) into the hands of tourists is to support LOCAL restaurants and owners -- this is one that deserves attention as it covers all of the bases and more. Good food, great room, nice service. Just go.

Yelp
Yummy Happy Hour 5-7pm most days. Beautiful decor and friendly staff. Bright location, heart of dumbo.

Yelp
Not for me! We visited this place on the occasion of our offices Holiday Dinner. We were seated near the entrance and it was a cold night with people coming in and out often. The gang ordered bunch of appetizers from the menu starting with in house hummus and breads. The bread was soft and came as 4. and the mushroom cigar which was essentially mushroom in a wrap. The apps were bland and lacked basic salt seasoning. The dips it came in were ok. Baba Ganoush Matbucha and tahini. I had the Dumbo Flower - which was Gin and lemon essence more like a summer refreshing drink and the lemon Arak . The lemon Arak was intense and might not be everyone's choice. The dinner was small portioned and big bucked. The vegetarian options were eggplant schnitzel and Butter noodles. Ordered the butter noodles and it was literally butter and noodles. We had a lot of leftovers. The place is good looking and the foot traffic is intense. They did a good job converting a grocery store into a restaurant. The vestibule to the toilets and the stalls definitely needs some light. Gosh! It was so dark in there. But the food lacked its glam and glitter in general. The servers and the waitress were enthusiastic and came back often to check in. Everyone loves sweet souls. Whoever is saying this a Mediterranean place, need to visit an authentic Mediterranean restaurant. This is a fusion only the apps were on that theme. Also no Mediterranean restaurant serves no baklava in their dessert menu. Forget about parking it's Dumbo.

Yelp
Nina is fantastic! Beautiful ambiance, great service, and delicious food. Went there this Saturday for brunch and we were greeted warmly as soon as we walked in. We had the hummus, which was great, and the Shakshuka, which might be the bet Shakshuka I've ever had. The cocktails were also amazing, I had the Burning Sage, which was herbaceous and refreshing. The GM Dana was great, taking the time to answer our questions. I would definitely go back!

Yelp
Came twice this week. The Tabouleh salad is great. Was the only thing I ordered the first time. Was perfect. Second visit had the Tabouleh Salad again and again - perfect. Light, fresh, flavorful. Really, excellent. Lighting and DJ are good. Bar in front is nicer. Service is good. Bar in back leaves the spinning glass cleaner running which is loud and gross. I can only imagine tiny germs spinning towards me. On second visit I ordered the fries which are listed as "home fries" on the menu making me think that they will be breakfast style potatoes but the server assured me they will be fries. Then, they come without the chimichurri sauce. I ask for it, it is oily and difficult to dip anything in. I also asked for ketchup or mayo and they don't have any. The fries are dry inside/meh. Huge portions - intended for sharing - all tapas sized dishes. Overall amazing first impression. Will be back. Hopefully they break down and get ketchup and Mayo and move the glass cleaner below the bar.

Yelp
We sat at the bar, I should state, so I really can't comment on service. The food was "fine". Why would you serve raw onions for dipping on a veggie platter-- really bizarre! Anyway, the ambiance is nice, I guess. I was actually expecting a better food experience here. It was great to have a new neighborhood place, but was overall disappointed.

Yelp
Was so looking forward to this in the neighborhood. Someone invested a lot into the design of this space but not service or food

Yelp
I've lived 10+ years in New York as a foodie in media, and this shockingly is the worst restaurant I've ever been to. Heard about this on social media and thought the vinyl DJ and ambiance looked cute and hip, so why not try it out. However, on the way there, I had a gut intuition tell me not to go and I should have listened. The food was beyond overpriced and below subpar - getting the dips and bread, raw veggies (I'll dive into this shortly), and diet coke totaled nearly $40 with tax and tip already. The bread tasted stale and the dips were bland and storebought; nothing about it was fresh. Most confusingly, the plate of raw veggies for dipping ($7!) had no accoutrements like carrots or cucumbers, but scallion tips, chunks of red onion, and green pepper with the SEEDS left inside. I tried to remove the pepper seeds to enjoy what I could, but I got a severe allergic reaction instead. Even when we let the wait staff know we had to leave and couldn't eat our steak (which looked paper thin as flanks), they tried to force us to pay for and eat it. I ended up running to get allergy medication and we saw the waiter turn around and serve our steak to another table! Net net, although the inside may look fun and vibey, the food and service left MUCH to be desired. Would not recommend for the life of me. Save yourself the heartache and allergic reaction and go to 12 Chairs or Laser Wolf instead.

Yelp
Went with w large group and had a plated dinner. It was taco Tuesday night but with Mediterranean spin, so tacos had pita not tortilla, many delicious varieties of hummus, the eggplant and sea bass tacos were favorites. Drinks menu was fun, service was prompt, helpful, and gracious.

Yelp
What a disappointment. I was hoping when Nina opened that an exciting new and delicious restaurant had opened in my neighborhood. The food was overly salty and just....fine? It tasted....okay? I think? I can't really comment more on the food because, despite multiple empty tables for two, they seated me next to the service station. I was constantly bothered by waiters bumping into me and emptying dirty dishes into a bucket right next to my table. I even had the pleasure of having one pack up the trash and cart it right by where I was eating. Oh well.

Yelp
Delicious hummus, vegetables, pita and fish. Also loved the salad. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Call me old, call me uncool - but when I want to go to a nice new neighborhood restaurant that I was excited to try I don't want a DJ blasting music so loud that you can't hear the waiter and can't hear who you are with. Couple that with how close the tables are to each other - not to mention that they brought us to a table without silverware or cups on it, but still brought us a bottle of water to - what, drink directly out of? No thanks. It's clear this place is trying to be for a very particular type of crowd. I am not in that crowd. I don't think it's the right fit for the spot it is at or the neighborhood. What a disappointment.

Yelp
So, we went back with a group a friends for brunch who really wanted to try the newest spot in DUMBO. Again the food was incredibly mediocre. It's not horrible but it's just not that good and the prices are extravagant for what you are getting. Still only a 2 of 5 for me, and my friends agreed. The saving grace here is the vibe so I would only ever recommend for drinks. I've talked to many people in the neighborhood and they say the same, so hoping they are listening to feedback and can pivot in the kitchen.

Yelp
We were visiting from Seattle, staying up the street and came upon Nina days after it opened. The staff was so welcoming, the vibe was fun--a great mix of folks. The chicken stew was superb, as was the lemon cheesecake. Another high mark--the cocktails!! Can't wait to return.

Yelp
It's another boring hipster place for tourists rather than locals. - The empty restaurant and my family are seated by other people and are right next to the cleaning station. It felt malicious and on purpose. - Brunch is boring and limited, like any other brunch in the US. - Their burger is not a burger - it's kebab meat in a bun. - Food is just bland. There is nothing unique about it I'd rather go to Almar or Superfine on the same block.

Sydney G.

Yelp
Food was fantastic! But the service was even better!! The head chef went absolutely above and beyond bringing us food after the kitchen was closed. You really don't see hospitality like that anymore. Can't wait to come back!!

Henry W.

Yelp
Visited from Boston for Brunch. This was the lightest, tastiest Brunch our family enjoyed in New York. I had the ricotta pancakes, the Israeli breakfast and a delicious cappuccino. Great service even better space.

Deborah K.

Yelp
Delicious food & great atmosphere! Service was attentive and polite. Highly recommend. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Dan T.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and really wanted to like this place. The space looks really nice and the service was great. But everything we tried was bland or just not good. The ceviche was very fishy, the schnitzel was all breading, and the fettuccine with meatballs, and the eggplant dish, had no flavor. Everything was simply not memorable. It's nice to have a new option in DUMBO and I really hope the owners work to improve the menu.

Chris M.

Yelp
Delicious food. The Tabern Fish is amazing, the hummus with freshly made Challah bread is from heaven! The service was great, the servers where really kind and sweet. They even had a DJ playing cool music. It has a Casual elegant atmosphere. I definitely recommend the chocolate mousse it's rich and creamy. If you're looking for a night life vibe in Brooklyn with a fine dine concept this is the place to go.

Grace C.

Yelp
Nina's is a must go to spot!! With the chef's expertise in Mediterranean cuisine, excellent service, and the aesthetic inside of the restaurant... this is an experience you don't want to miss. Can't wait to go back!
