Portland, Oregon’s Best Sandwiches | Eater Portland

"This sandwich shop within Hosford-Abernethy taproom and bottle shop Beermongers makes Italian-style grinders and hoagies stuffed with fillings like garlic-and-herb-rubbed roast pork, broccoli Trabe, and house-cured coppa. The shop’s take on a classic Italian hoagie is a favorite of East Coast expats and newcomers alike, with layers of Calabrian soppressata, mortadella studded with pistachios, Genoa salami, provolone, and the customary red wine vinegar and olive oil on a crusted, seeded roll." - Alex Frane

Awesome sandwich! Super fresh and flavorful, with the option to customize pickles inside the sandwich (went for the sweet pickled peppers which had a great vinegary umami hit!) - guy who runs it is incredibly friendly too, great service and can't wait to try more!

Somehow this spot got on my radar and I'm really glad it did. Make your way to the back of the brewpub and you'll find this spot. Friendliest service. He pointed me perfectly to what I was envisioning in my head. When I said yes to spicy I got it. Just go. This is an amazing sandwich. I will be back often.

Great sandwiches - italian and roast pork - though I’d love to see provolone picante as the first layer on that Italian 🤌🏽

Beermongers is lucky to have Brad (and vice versa). He explains that the name “Ninth and Fitzwater” is an homage to a bakery in Philly that made the sesame bread which he gets custom made now from a bakery in lents! The Italian did not disappoint, easy to eat without it falling apart, he has mastered the art of sandwich making. The pasta salad is good although the carrots are an interesting texture in a mostly soft dish, which could be enhanced with perhaps diced salami (would get that as a meal itself!) A cool dude making bomb hoagies outta the back behind the fridges at the already awesome Beermongers space! It’s beautiful. Get it while the getting is good!! Easily a top Italian sandwich in pdx right now.

This was seriously one of the best sandwiches ever. I'm afraid I have a new addiction. Also very nice owner that gave me free chips! :)

This place has become a regular sandwich spot for me. Italian grinder + Utz crab chips + pasta salad. And you can enjoy a beer at Beermongers while you wait.

We had the Roast Pork Italiano at their pop up on Saturdays in Beer Mongers. Garlic, Parm, raab... absolutely delicious. This is the best sandwich I've ever had.

Yelp
Tucked in the back of Beermongers. The guy is from the east coast, outside of Philly, and knows how to make a decent hoagie! He gets his bread from a bakery in Lents and takes a lot of pride in what he does.

Yelp
I'm a native Philadelphian and lived in several apartments that were an easy walk from the location referenced in this restaurant's name. So I'm picky! And this place's Italian hoagie was almost perfect. The bread, which I understand is custom baked, is maybe a little denser than that used in most Philadelphia joints, but it's very good bread, and I loved the sesame seeds. The meat and cheese are perfect, as was the mixture of hot and sweet peppers I chose. There wasn't quite enough wet stuff on the sandwich, though, and I would up putting it down and getting some shredded lettuce and chopped red onions from my own kitchen, because I'm that kind of ridiculous person. I will totally order this again when I miss my home city and feel like something indulgent.
