The 38 Best Restaurants in Omaha, Nebraska | Eater

"Nite Owl, a restaurant and bar designed to look like a cooler version of your grandparents’ basement, is a new-school dive. The bar serves a great namesake burger and house-cut fries, meaty and vegan sliders, and an endlessly creative lineup of drinks. Look out for cocktails like the Tijuana Brass, made with mezcal, tequila reposado, serrano, ginger, lime, cilantro, and allspice. Find more solid cocktails and an old-school brunch menu at sister restaurant Fizzy’s in Little Bohemia." - Sarah Baker Hansen

Google
We were looking for an off-the-beaten-path place to grab dinner and drinks while catching up with friends, and we came across this spot online. I'm so glad we gave it a try—it was awesome! The food was absolutely delicious, and their happy hour menu is fantastic. The service was great, though the lines at the bar can get a bit backed up, so patience is key. I’d definitely recommend this place whether you’re in the mood for great food or a good drink.

Google
Sweet dive with a sunken in bar and comfy lounge chairs. Friendly staff with a a fun creative cocktail list. A definite must visit if you’re wondering the many bars on the street.

Google
I’ve had amazing food here (years ago) but on this nite we had espresso martinis. Did not enjoy it. Definitely had orange zest in it and that’s def not my thing. But the vibe there is always great!!

Google
Nice bar, I’ve been a couple times. The cocktails are really good. Haven’t tried much of the food, but my guest snacked on a BIRDHOUSE BAO which she enjoyed. Bartenders are chill. I’m not a fan of the furnishing. They have an outdoor area too. I do recommend giving this place a try.

Google
Cool gastro-bar! Had the Korean BBQ chicken wings and a delicious cocktail. A Omaha favorite for a reason.

Alex Watters

Google
This was honestly so unexpected. Nite Owl seemed like a pretty unique cocktail joint, but this food was exceptional! The cauliflower wings were perfectly fried with an amazing Korean BBQ sauce and simply look at this bao bun. This place was a whole vibe. They have well-crafted cocktails, dim lighting, and such a unique aesthetic. Come for the chill atmosphere and stick around for the great drinks and food. Honestly, the only reason it didn’t get the fifth star is because the lighting was a little too dim for my liking and it was so loud in there we could hardly hear the people across the table from us. Maybe it was the acoustics of the room or maybe it was the amount of people. Not sure, but other than those small picky things, make sure it’s on your list. Next time you are in the Blackstone District!!

Google
Food was very good, security staff was welcoming at the door. That's where the positives end. Bar staff was extremely rude, slow, incorrectly charged customers, ect. I ordered 3 of the same drinks, each of them tasted very different from one another. And the drinks are so overpriced compared to other bars nearby. And on top of that the bartenders were complete assholes. Will not be coming back.

Google
Our favorite spot for late night food in Omaha. You must try the Nite Owl burger! Everyone talks about their tatchos which are so good but if you like chicken wings, you need to try the Korean barbecue wings 🤤 My husband loves ordering an old fashion from here. Unfortunately, they don’t have espresso martinis… so I ordered the espresso/lime drink. They have a very dark and moody vibe inside. It’s very retro and cool and they always screen old movies. Last time we were here they were screening Godzilla. In the summertime it’s so fun to hang out on the patio. If you haven’t been here yet, you must try it out!

Yelp
It has been years since I've been to Nite Owl unfortunately but that changed recently! I went there with a small group later on a Saturday evening and had a few tables to choose from both inside and outside. We ultimately decided on a spot in the back corner inside. There were QR codes on the table, so I'm pretty sure you could order online, but before we got that far, someone had come to take our orders! I got the pina colada slushie and the table got an order of the totchos to share. The slushie hit the spot for sure! And the totchos were as delicious as I remember. They do now have two different sizes you can order and the price has gone up, but it's just so good that I never have any regrets! I'm already looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
Totchos at Nite Owl are a must--seriously, I can't go there without getting them! They've always got fun cocktails too, which keeps things interesting. You order at the bar, so it can get a little busy, especially on weekend nights, but the kitchen is crazy fast once you've ordered, so the wait's never too bad. Overall, a great place for a night out!

Yelp
Nite Owl is always a go to when I'm in Blackstone. Their food is consistently good. Their tot-chos and friend Oreos (not pictured), are always a must! I love the moody atmosphere with the horror flicks on behind the bar. It's just a unique spot and I love that they serve food until 2am! Let's not sleep on the 1970s velvet art lining the walls... moody and ICONIC!

Yelp
Big fan of the vibe at Nite Owl. It nails that cozy, 70s-style den atmosphere--dim lighting, vintage flair, and a cool, laid-back energy. The menu is clearly curated with care: creative cocktails and unique bites that show real intention and passion behind them. My only small gripe is that the drinks are strong. There's definitely an audience for that, and I respect the craftsmanship--but personally, I usually prefer something a little less booze-forward. Still, the overall experience is thoughtful and well-executed

Yelp
This is my PSA to go get yourself a Techno Viking cocktail! I didn't know that I loved savory cocktails until now. Miso? In a cocktail? AMAZING!!! Pro tip: there are 2 sizes of totchos (to nachos) depending on your party size/level of hunger. Would reco the large size for 3+ people. Larger size is on the happy hour menu. They are messy (saucy) but worth it!

Yelp
Night Owl has some of the best cocktails and late night bar food in the city. The tachos are top notch. I crave them constantly! And I love their options of drinks, they're so unique! This place would be 5 stars for me but the drinks are sooooo expensive. Even the beers. Their craft cocktails I understand but not a well whiskey and Coke. Ordering at the bar can take awhile due to the time it takes to make their cocktails. But regardless we frequent often and will continue to do so! We have sat on their patio many times this summer! Also although it's small their espresso martini is top tier in my opinion! So good!

Yelp
I've visited Nite Owl for drinks or snacks/food many times, and it's always been a pretty solid choice in the Blackstone area. The staff is excellent, from what I've experienced. I actually thought I had lost my wedding ring there, called the next day, and they panicked to try and help me find it. (Turns out it was lost at home and I found it there, but I was very appreciative for their diligent help in trying to help me find it! They have a good selection of drinks and cocktails, so if you're there for just drinking and chatting with friends, it's a good spot to find something you love to sip on and shout across the table (I lost my voice when I was there this past weekend LOL) It's usually pretty loud in there and usually a little dark (at least on weekends), so its not a great place to have a big conversation, unless you sit at the booths, but those get snapped up pretty quick when they're busy and bustling (when you'd need them for a quieter spot). The bar has a TV mounted in the middle of it, and they play classic movies all the time, which is a fun vibe. They have a private room (The Nest) for events that you can rent out for a few hours, but it does turn public at a certain time), so that could be an option for you if you like a more quiet/private party atmosphere. The food is actually pretty great. We had the Fried Oreos when we were there last (yum!), but I've had the tots, the totchos, the Banh Mi Bao, and the Korean BBQ cauliflower wings. All great! It's not a quiet relaxing place, by any means, but if you are ok with that, then definitely give Nite Owl a try for the food, service, and drinks!
google avatar

Yelp
Plan this place as the last meal before a fast or late night munchies; portions are hefty. I ordered the tots to share and there are probably three pounds of hot and crispy goodness here...we barely made a dent. They also come with a yummy aioli. Set up is simple, comfortable, dark, and relaxed. Grab a menu and order at the bar. There's numerous people clearing when you're done or if need anything. Great place to end the night!

Yelp
unfortunately, I wasn't able to take more pictures, however, we had the most lovely experience at night owl sitting on their patio and enjoying a beautiful evening! Not to mention the steak sandwich that low-key changed our lives... FOOD / DRINK : my husband got the steak sandwich (although naturally because it was so good we shared..) and it was absolutely delicious, it was hard not to go back for more! I have never tasted a sandwich or steak that was that rich in flavor and spice. I can't even adequately describe the experience.. all I can say is that very rarely have I had flavor that good. The sandwich was the perfect mixture of not being too oily or too dry, the steak with the bread paired so nicely, and every single bite was to die for. Unfortunately, that was all we purchased in terms of food... But it definitely left me wanting to come back for more. My husband also got a captain and soda, which was a pretty basic drink, but they did it really nice! ENVIRONMENT : definitely trend more on the luxury bar-esque environment. This is one of my husband's favorite because they are definitely unique and their approach - all the windows are blacked out and it's extremely dark inside, with old school films playing on the TVs with a gory take on decor, but they have their style and they strut it well! SERVICE : we had such a delightful waitress who was extremely friendly and down to earth, she also kept petting the dogs next to us and just seemed like a genuinely lovely human. everyone that we talked to were wonderful and we definitely had a great experience with the employees!

Yelp
The slushy's are the best...flavorful, refreshing and you can taste the alcohol. The drinks are crafty and have never been disappointed. Only have had the loaded tots and hummus, both are good. Too. Bad they do not open earlier on Sunday Funday.
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
Nite Owl offers fun and diverse menu options. We went with a large size of the tots and it was exactly that - large! I had a Paloma and it was refreshing and delicious. Really enjoyed the fact it wasn't a loud environment, making it easy for conversation. This is a fantastic bar in Omaha with a relaxed vibe and great food options. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
The food, the drinks, the service. All superb. Great background music as well. Had the Korean chicken sandwich and it was delicious. So were the tater tots.

Yelp
Went to Nite Owl for happy hour another A+ experience. I had the cheeseburger it was delicious, homemade pickles and the burger sauce is a really nice touch. The fries are tasty as well. The bar is so cool, I love the look. Nice lighting. They also play cool movies with an eclectic mix of music. Ad Astra was playing when I was there. I had the Sam Elliot which is Coors Banquet and shot of bourbon for 7 bucks, that's a win. Now, let's get to main event. The Orange Chicken Wings. These were great sweet with a hint of spice. What a nice change of pace from the typical wings you get at a bar. And the staff are really cool people. GO TO THERE!!
google avatar

Haley J.

Yelp
Everything was great! You order at the bar for food and drinks, and they will give you the drinks to take back to your table and then bring the food out when ready. It's super dark inside hahaha. They do have a fun vibe and a large projector/TV behind the bar that plays movies. Popcorn chicken definitely tasted homemade and not from a frozen bag which was great, the Nacho Tots are my absolute favorite in Omaha, burger was juicy and cooked to perfection, it does not come with any sides!
google avatar

Yelp
I spent a few hours in a back party space for a 30th birthday that kind of became an engagement party! We had a private bar and semi-private patio area. It was very nice. Music was a bit loud. Hard to have a conversation unless you were outside. I was able to sample their tatchos and they were amazing. Salty, but that just makes you want to buy more drinks! One bartender was awesome and another kind of yelled at my husband. Wish I would have gotten the awesome bartender's name. He had several tattoos, a cool mustache and wore a leather apron. I see why my brother's (now) fiancé picked the place. It's very hipster-y and posh. (Yes, I like to use British terms!) I think they have a restaurant and bar on the other half. I didn't venture over there.

Nick K.

Yelp
Keep in mind I'm 25 and just moved to Nebraska from Virginia. Bartender not only took my real Virginia ID, But gave it to some random dude at the end of the bar (who later claimed to be the bouncer) and refused to give it back until I called the cops. Even though I had my passport and other proof of identity, they still refused to give it back until the cops came. Absolutely ridiculous, will never go here again.
google avatar

Barbi B.

Yelp
I've been here twice and love this bar. I love that the seats at the bar are normal low table height, I love how they always have some old movies playing, I love their weird art and their food and drinks. All around fun vibes here and I wish I lived closer cuz I'd come here weekly!
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
Still slangin craft cocktails and bar food so good it will make you slap yo mama. Keep hustlin

Yelp
Nite owl has very quickly become a personal favorite! More than the drinks, I come here for the food. Particularly the fries! And with the aioli?! Say less. I've heard great things about the burgers and next time I'll have to come with a bigger appetite! The drinks are also pretty good. I think the dirty chai is a new favorite! The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable and good at their craft. Other than the food and drinks, I enjoy getting lost in whatever old thing they have playing on the TV.
google avatar

Natalie E.

Yelp
Have returned to Nite Owl to finally try some some snacks, but they underwhelmed. They were out of fried Oreos, so we were bummed we didn't get to try those. The tatchos were disappointing. There was a lot of diced red onion on top. Like a lot of onion. The tots themselves were crispy but extremely salty. Several people commented on the saltiness. The bahn mi bao was ok but I didn't care for the texture of the bun. A bit gummy. The bartender I interacted with was friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Ella T.

Yelp
Very convenient hours- especially since they stay open late. Unfortunately they run out of items on their menu at night, so options might be limited. Decent amount of vegan option as well.
google avatar

Leah R.

Yelp
Good food. Nice patio. Bad service. All ordering is done at one of two registers at the bar. The service was terrible. It was slow and there was absolutely no acknowledgment from anyone when you walked in, or were standing right in front of them waiting to order. We contemplated leaving at first, but decided to stick it out. We started with the Tot-Chos and they were good. Cheesy with a little spice from the salsa verde. It's a huge portion so plenty for sharing. We also tried the Nite Owl burger, Thai Sweet Chili and Korean BBQ wings. The burger was messy, but it had a lot of flavor and was pretty good. The wings were larger than most places and both flavors we tried were good. We enjoyed everything we ordered, but the service was really lacking and that definitely takes away from the overall experience.

Yelp
Night owl is the best place to get late night food in Blackstone, and probably in Omaha in general! The food here is amazing, don't sleep on it! You have to try the Nite Owl burger and the Korean barbecue wings It's very dark and vibey inside. It has such a retro style, and they always show old movies. The other night we were here getting drinks during happy hour, and they were screening Godzilla. They have a long bar with lots of seating, booths, that line the edge of the walls and tables and chairs in the middle. You have to go up to the bar to order, if you order food, they will give you a number to put at your table. Tip: order from the bar in the back if there's a long line. The long line always takes forever. In the summertime it's so much fun to sit on the patio. They have a gorgeous patio with small tables for two and large picnic tables!
google avatar

Alli W.

Yelp
The food and cocktails were absolutely great and had us coming back for more on our recent trip. However, the service situation was not preferable. Asking people to order all food and drinks from two service-wells at the bar proved inconvenient. Lines form at the wells, blocking traffic within the restaurant; everyone's carrying their own drinks from bar to table, and it just gets hectic. Nite Owl would benefit greatly from hiring servers for food and beverage in such a large space.
google avatar

Kristi S.

Yelp
Love this place. I go there after long hours at work so nice that they are open late and don't allow kids. Love the atmosphere and chill vibes.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
This is a great after work until late in the evening spot in Blackstone. They have very interesting and creative cocktails that are delicious. The outdoor seating patio is lovely when the weather allows. Although I haven't had the chance to try their food yet, it smells delicious! I will certainly be coming back

Corey V.

Yelp
Favorite place in Omaha. Food is amazing. Ambiance is perfect. And everyone that works there is so freaking nice.
google avatar

Miguel S.

Yelp
In the middle of the Blackstone area, Nite owl has a patio for outdoor and booths indoor. The place can be quite dark inside so I suggest the booths as they are closer to the light sources. However, this gastropub's uniqueness is that it can be like a cinema with food. In the middle of the bar they play an assortment of old-school movies from 70s, 80s and 90s, in a large screen. The food is awesome. They have few burgers and wings but they are all well cooked. Their appetizers are ok, though the vegan tot-chos clearly stand out. Neat place and perfect to meet with friends!
google avatar

Kyle K.

Yelp
Yet another super cool cocktail bar located on Farnam Street in the midtown area also known as Blackstone. The Nest has a robust liquor menu; smack dab next to Nite Owl. The bourbon/whiskey menu is definitely worth a look. Not only are the selections listed, but also a description of the flavors and notes. One example is Brenne single malt French whiskey that has butterscotch, creme brulee and Banana's Foster notes. Highly recommend! The bartenders are friendly and welcoming in this quaint space. They are to able assist you on assembling a familiar libation or perhaps guidance on one you hadn't tried before. In addition, a handful of draft beers are on tap. A few booths and also seating at the bar are available. I will definitely be back soon and encourage others who are cocktail fans to try it as well.
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
One of the best places in town for great snacks AND great drinks. I had skipped lunch but had dinner plans which I didn't want to spoil so Nite Owl delivered ftw. One of my Omaha favorites, always
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
What? What? I just wandered in here. I loved every minute of my visit. Drinks were awesome. Food was awesome and prompt. Held my spot while I smoked. I felt like a VIP. They were bused as hell and still tended to me as if it were slow. I really enjoyed this place.
google avatar

Reana L.

Yelp
Normally my husband and I love it here! The food is always bomb! Tots are always crunchy and the flavors are phenomenal. We always order the Korean wings and a platter of tots and fries. Occasionally we order the ban mih sliders. And they've always been good, but the service here is probably the worst part about them. This last time we went, we got all of our food except the fries. We asked the waitress and she was pretty rude and said "we'll they'd be out if they were ready". We waited an 45 minutes and never got our fries.. we decided to just count our losses and leave because it was already 1 AM. Still love their food, just hope the service improves
google avatar

Yelp R.

Yelp
The food was above average, hamburger imho was good not great. However the bun ess done perfectly. Had to return a drink because it was made wrong they did remake without much fuss and the remake was delicious. The service was pretty bad and if im honest I'd say it was terrible. Pay attention to the line forming. It was too dark i know its supposed to be dark as that's the vibe they are looking for but when the staff bumps into things YOU know its dark. Also the music. Too loud, I could not have a conversation with the bartender or my partner because it was sooo loud. Ok I'm old i get it.
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Food is great, some of the staff can come off a little pretentious. I love the dark atmosphere though.
google avatar

Maureen P.

Yelp
By far my favorite Blackstone bar!! Always great cocktails & the bartenders are AMAZING. Even at the busiest moments, it feels like you have their full attention. Food is hit or miss. I love the menu, but it sometimes sounds better on paper than it tastes. The bao is my favorite! I've always appreciated the concept of tot-cho's more than the experience of eating them - by the time you get past the outer layer the tots are too soggy to be appetizing. But after a night out... you might catch me ordering them anyways!
google avatar

Brennan M.

Yelp
Nite Owl is easily my favorite bar in Omaha. The ambiance is very unique and always my go-to! The food is just as epic, along with the drink menu. Their drinks are very different from most restaurants where you would get a cocktail. My go-to is always their seasonal sangria.
google avatar

Sammy C.

Yelp
Nite Owl is my go-to stop for a quick bite to eat after a night out in Blackstone! Food is served until 2am, so no need to worry about the kitchen closing early! Seat yourself at a booth, table, or seat at the bar & order at the bar when you're ready. So what do you order? Listen -- my GO-TO food order are their infamous TOT-CHOS. If you like tots AND nachos, it's a no brainer, get the dang Nite Owl tot-chos. You get heaping pile of hot and fresh tater tots with toppings galore, certainly enough for 2 to share and satisfy those drunchies. Also, I recently decided to branch out and order the Crab Rangoons. They were delicious, hot and crunchy with piping hot cream cheese & crab filling, but not spectacular enough to only get 4 for $8. All this being said, Nite Owl is a great place to grab a drink and great food! (I'll be back to try those Korean BBQ wings) For more Omaha food insight, follow my foodsta on Instagram @sammychews.

Yelp
First of all- YUM. The tatchos are so good you guys! They have a fun selection of blended drinks and full bar. The service was fast. Just be aware that is it a dark setting so you may need a light or your glasses on. Nite Owl would be a good place for a first date or for a small group setting.
google avatar

Quyen P.

Yelp
Nite owl is always our spot for late night snack and drinks. Korean wings is the bomb. Check it out their special menu, will surprise you
google avatar

Madelyn H.

Yelp
This place is the best! In a college hub part of town it is a great spot to relax! Music is sometimes loud, but bartenders are awesome. Cocktails in abundance. My favorite is the strawberry switchblade which is seasonal. Also! Fried Oreos have my heart!
google avatar

Jaclyn E.

Yelp
Why is a beyond burger $14 (more expensive than an actual burger) and it doesn't even come with tots? To buy a pack of beyond burgers at the store its 2 Pattie's for $5. I used to frequent night owl quite often but this seems like they are taking advantage of their customers. Plus, you used to make your veggie burger in house and it was amazing.
google avatar

Olivia S.

Yelp
The best cheeseburger in Omaha! The food is amazingly consistent and comes out quickly. It's a wonderfully quirky vibe inside and the bartenders are super personable. Their patio is lovely on a warm evening. Top things off with a delicious happy hour old fashioned and it's a recipe for a great evening!

Yelp
NiTe Owl was one of the first places I tried in Blackstone, and i fell in love pretty quickly. Owned by a fellow Austin hipster, this place brings a little bit of Texas to Blackstone. Now before you get turned off by that idea thinking "oh god not Texas country chic," thats not where I'm going with this at all. This is the only bar in town that i know of that I can get LoneStar Beer at. For those of you that don't know what Lonestar is, Lonestar is the Texas hipster equivalent of PBR, (which is ironic since it's made by Pabst anyway.) The food is great, and ive yet to get a bad burger or tots here. I highly encourage you to check out the burger of the day when you go in, its always something new and amazing. overall, i like nite owl, but I wish this place still opened earlier. Being a remote worker, during the day nite owl was much quieter, and had significantly better wifi than most of the area coffee shops. Please bring back Big Frita

Yelp
*Tater Tot Review Included* If this photo doesn't give you the vibe of the restaurant then I don't know what will. With awesome late night grub (but also open at a normal evening time for dinner), this place has some even better tater tots. It was too dark to get a good shot but I'd say the second best tots I've had in Omaha! I'd suggest paying the extra couple quarters for the seasoning because it packs a bit of a lunch and makes these mouthwatering, crunchy suckers even better. Hardly even need condiments with the seasoning on it, although you will need plenty of water!

Yelp
Mikey is the #1 bartender. He knows us when we walk in & makes every experience memorable. We will continue to come back because of him. He's an incredible bartender and makes the atmosphere worth it. Would recommend night owl 10/10 - ask for Mikey with the mustache!!!

NotMyPersonalInfo O.

Yelp
Probably the best cocktails within a 10 block radius. More pricey, but also guaranteed to not disappoint. Excellent food- can actually get a filling, not-greasy, quality late night snack here. The wing sauce offerings favor spice-lovers, but there's plenty else to choose from otherwise. Occasionally there is a long wait to order- might be good to have another floating staff member checking for orders in addition to the bartenders preparing drinks. Other than that, it's pretty much perfect. Super dark interior can be great for chilling out or having a focused conversation, unless the music is really loud. Only noticed that a couple of times. Couples can easily sit at the bar, and there are several 4-person booths lining the sides, as well as a large group booth towards the back. A few basic tables in the middle strategically placed to give extra seating while somehow not being in the way of anything.
google avatar

Shreyansh S.

Yelp
Another amazing place in town. The prefect ambience for a chill bar to hang out. The outdoor seating is perfect with vibe. The signature cocktails are great. I ordered the Jessica rabbit and it was one of the best cocktails I had in town. My friend ordered goodbye earl and that was also nice. They have open seating and everything is to be ordered at the bar counter. I didn't try the food but hope it will be good as well as the drinks were just perfect.

Yelp
Granted, there is a takeout joint, open just as late, basically across the street, called CHEESEBURGERS- The Night Owl has the best cheeseburger I think I've ever had in this whole city. And I mean that.
