Chicago’s Best Ice Cream Shops | Eater Chicago

"As the name suggests, this Bronzeville cafe is filled with old-school fun. Liquid nitrogen is used to produce the made-to-order ice creams — each named after a classic song — and options include “Papa Don’t Peach,” consisting of peach cobbler, graham crackers, cinnamon, and whipped cream, and “Old Fashioned Love,” a riff on the classic cocktail. Milkshakes can also be spiked with booze, and the shop has a collection of board games for guests to play while they enjoy their frozen desserts." - Jeffy Mai

I've been to Nitro Nostalgia a number of times and each time I've tried something new on their menu. The atmosphere is cozy and staff are very pleasant. Watching the process of them making the ice cream is fun to watch also. They have various games, music, and movies streaming. The empanadas are delicious and filled with a lot inside. My favorite ice cream so far has been boozy lemon sorbet (not pictured). This place is great for family outings and friendly gatherings. I could see it being a cute date night spot too. The best part is that it's right in the neighborhood so I can get there within a few minutes. They have events often which support other local black owned businesses so it's been a win-win each time I've come.

Hanging out with my daughters today in our neighborhood. I’ll be in hot yoga for sure this week. Nitro Nostalgia in Bronzeville (43rd and Cottage) Black Owned and family operated. Its delicious! I got the sweetest taboo and my girls got the Strawberry Letter 43. 21 and older can make it boozy. We played some games while we enjoyed our treats. 🤭

Such a fun spot in the neighborhood. We came here for the first time and ordered the Crazy in Love and Papa Don't Peach ice creams. So smooth and delicious! It was fun watching the nitrogen process happen too. A smidge pricier than other ice cream places, but we will definitely be back to treat ourselves!

Nitro Nostalgia is a true gem on the South Side of Chicago! From the moment I walked in, I could feel the passion and creativity behind everything they do. But let me tell you, that waffle cone was something else. In my 55 years on this planet, I’ve had a lot of ice cream, but this was hands down one of the best cones I’ve ever had. Perfectly crisp, warm, and flavorful, paired with the freshest, most decadent ice cream you could ask for. The nostalgic vibe, attention to detail, and friendly staff made the entire experience unforgettable. If you’re anywhere near the South Side, do yourself a favor and stop by. Nitro Nostalgia isn’t just a treat. It’s a memory in the making.

There is a new ice cream spot in Bronzeville and it’s Nitro Nostalgia…and it’s one of my favorite spots! The vibe, the customer service and the main ingredient …the icecream …work so perfectly together! I am always greeted warmly and everything I have tried is so yummy!! The waffle cones are so light and crisp too. I love that they have a dairy or vegan option . Ohh and I forgot to mention they have theee cutest lounge area to chill and enjoy your icecream. You can even indulge in old school games while you enjoy your icecream. Come experience the greatness for yourself…you won’t be disappointed !

Unique experience with friendly service! We played a game of chess while enjoying our milkshakes. There are several places to sit and mingle. The decor is colorful and the ice cream making process is interesting! Stop by today for your choice of regular, vegan or boozy options.
