I have read some good things about Nittaya's Little Kitchen in the far northwest. Staying at the Santa Fe for a night, I decided to go the short distance to try Nittaya's food.
When I entered I was asked if I wanted bar seating for Happy Hour or table seating for dinners. I chose table seating. I was shown to a corner table in the rather small dining room.
I looked over the menu and passed on the tapas items. What I found later proved to be good choices. I started with coconut soup--chicken, lemongrass, tomatoes, mushrooms, coconut broth, green onions, and cilantro. For the main course, I ordered the duck breast curry--curry sauce, pineapple, basil, red bell peppers, tomatoes, and lychee. In the meantime, I got the Thai iced tea I ordered.
I was blown away by how good the coconut soup was. Great coconut flavor with thin pieces of chicken. The lemongrass gave a nice chewy texture and the half cherry tomatoes were a nice touch. It was a grand start!
Next came the duck curry. It was sliced duck breast in a red curry sauce with vegetables and pineapple cubes. The menu indicated 2 chilis meaning some spice. There was a little kick to it. This might be a 3 of 5 on a rating schedule for those with low spice tolerance. For me, it was 1.5 to 2, But it did have some spice to it, and it was good. The duck was thinly sliced in ovals. The curry had a super flavor. It has been a long time since I've had duck curry, so this proved to be an excellent choice.
I passed on dessert although there are some interesting and different ones on the menu.
Service was very good. At the beginning, it was a bit noisy. The Happy Hour people were a bit loud. Happy Hour is 4 to 6. As the time got closer to 6, the place became quieter. I have to make a trip back. It's so worth the drive.
