"When you want to sell your house, you trim the hedges, repaint the walls, and buy a stock photo of a happy family to put above your fireplace. And when you’re performing a long con as fake foreign royalty, it’s important to wear expensive-looking clothing that’s just a tiny bit ostentatious. Because appearance matters - and it might help you seem more impressive than you are. Nix is a very good example of this. This place has been open since 2016, and for a while, we’d tell people to use it when they were looking for great vegetarian food at a place that felt like a nice night out. Nowadays, it still gets busy, and the dining room is as attractive as ever - but it’s no longer a spot we’ll tell you to go out of your way for. Because once you get past the fancy plates and theater-grade lighting, you’ll find that the food just isn’t that good. Everything here is vegetarian, and that’s the main thing that sets this place apart. The menu is ambitious and fusion-y in a buffet-at-a-business-conference kind of way, and it includes things like cacio e pepe mushrooms, tempura cauliflower with a side of steamed buns, and burrata with truffle pesto. Unfortunately, the $26 cacio e pepe tastes like something you’d pick up in the frozen foods aisle and microwave at 1am, the tempura cauliflower comes coated in a sauce that could plausibly be a mix of ketchup and Prego, and and the burrata is, well, actually pretty good. But we aren’t handing out awards for decent burrata. Despite all of this, we still enjoy being here, even if we aren’t huge fans of the food itself. With its plain white walls and assortment of potted plants, the space looks like the apartment of an irritating friend you continue to associate with because you hope to steal something from his or her house. The service is friendly and professional, the lights are dim enough for a date night, and the dining room fills up quickly and gives you the feeling that you’ve chosen the right place. Of course, if you’re here, you haven’t chosen the right place. Because there’s much better vegetarian food out there, and a lot of it costs less. We appreciate the fact that Nix feels like the set of a film in which we play idealized versions of ourselves - but it’s hard to justify a pricey dinner here. So if you haven’t been yet, you can skip it. Food Rundown Bread, Veggies, Papadums, And Dips There’s a section at the top of the menu that consists of tandoor bread, raw vegetables, little papadums, and dips. You can order all of them individually, and while the raw veggies and papadums taste exactly like decent raw veggies and papadums, the tandoor bread is legitimately delicious. Get some hummus to dip it in. Cauliflower Tempura With Steamed Buns And House Pickles When Nix first opened, this dish seemed fun and exciting. Now, it mostly just tastes like deep-fried cauliflower covered in an overly sweet sauce you’d use to get a four-year-old to eat something other than cereal. Pan-Seared Gnocchi This simple plate of gnocchi with beans and capers is boring and pretty expensive, so we wouldn’t order it again - but it will by no means ruin your night. Shiitake “Cacio e Pepe” There’s very little chance you hate this dish, but it’s also $26 and tastes like something you’d make at home with ample amounts of cheese and mushrooms after a night spent drinking at multiple bars. It just isn’t worth it. Sweet Potato And Ginger Dumplings There are thousands of dumplings in this city, and most of them are better than the ones at Nix. Sure, these lukewarm pockets of sweet potato look nice arranged in their fancy little bowl, and they’re pretty inoffensive overall, but you don’t need them. Burrata With Truffle Pesto We’d order this again. But that’s mostly just because it’s burrata. You’d have to be very bad at what you do to mess up burrata. Egg Salad This is called “egg salad,” but it is, in fact, several hard-boiled eggs dressed up with some crispy sht on top. Once again, an ideal situation would involve your not spending money on this." - Bryan Kim

Felt very rushed having my breakfast. I had just finished and not even put the fork down when the gentleman took the plate away from me. Unfortunately the lady behind the counter where you pay is very rude and when asked for the receipt she crumbled it up then had to reprint a new one and threw it across the counter at me. Otherwise the remaining members of staff in the hotel were wonderful and couldn't do enough for their guests. Would avoid the NiX at all costs. Much nicer places to grab a breakfast/brunch and lunch where the staff are much more nicer to tourists and you can have a nice chat and not feel rushed ordering and eating your food

The Salmon Benedict was great! The salmon wasn’t too salty and the poached eggs were perfectly cooked. The potatoes could have used a bit more seasoning but salt and pepper quickly fixed it. Pricing wasn’t too bad either given the touristy nature of the location.

To the greasy sob Gavino, you should be ashamed of how you present and run this restaurant. I highly recommend eating elsewhere because I was completely dismissed when I had a problem with my meal. The French toast was made on the smallest bread they could find and he did nothing to redeem it. “That’s our style” he says after I’d asked him for something else. I hope you understand that there are better people to spend your money with that will treat you better.

Yelp
Restaurant is amazing with some of the best service I've had in years. They were so accomodating and hospitable. Food was always fresh and flavorful. We had breakfast and lunch here!! Located in the Millenium knickerbocker hotel right in the heart of downtown chicago. Me and my daughters enjoyed our stay there partly due to this restaurant !

Yelp
Breakfast this morning was excellent. The poached eggs plate contained a yummy made in house tomotillo sauce over perfectly cooked jammy eggs. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Definately the place to go if your in the neighborhood.

Yelp
I've been to Nix for breakfast multiple times. The food is always good and the service is exceptional. I've been to five star resorts that don't deliver service like this. Today my server was Andre who is terrific. He was supported by two other people (including the manager), and together they are on top of every detail in a way that is very rare these days.

Yelp
I'm in town for a girls' weekend with friends and we happened upon this place for breakfast. The service was absolutely top notch with every employee being kind, helpful, and quick. Our server, Andre, showed great attention to detail with anticipation of our needs. He gave recommendations for our time in Chicago and took excellent care of us at breakfast. The food and drinks were delicious!! We split two breakfast pizzas between four of us in our party and it was the perfect amount of food. The breakfast pizza was a flatbread style with superb seasoning that complimented the egg, bacon, and sun dried tomato toppings. The restaurant itself is tucked into the lobby of the Knickerbocker hotel and was quiet and welcoming. Highly recommend for a low key, delicious, and welcoming breakfast.

Yelp
NiX was a great find for breakfast when staying along the Mag Mile in January 2022. Very clean with an excellent breakfast menu, quick service and friendly staff. NiX is located off the lobby of the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel (Across the street from the Drake Hotel). Newly opened, it is a refreshing addition to the area for breakfast and lunch. American Breakfast Omlette Reopened January 2022, reviews prior to January 2022 do not represent this restaurant.

Yelp
Solid 3.5. Much more reasonable priced than expected as well as portioned (especially when compared to other hotel restaurants in the area). Service is a little slow, but nothing to really complain about. Rating would be higher, but there is so much good food in the local area your better off walking a block and eating somewhere else!

Yelp
Ate here for daily breakfast while we were staying at the Millenium Knickerbocker hotel off of the Magnificent Mile. Menu was simple but pretty delicious. Service varied - overall folks were friendly, but placing your order and getting the food took a little longer than I would have liked. Over the course of our stay we tried the smoked salmon eggs benedict, American breakfast, french toast, blueberry buttermilk pancakes, and the omelette. All of the above were delicious although the pancakes were a little thick. If you get the orange juice, it does taste fresh squeezed like Odwalla, so was pleased it wasn't your typical chalky minute maid stuff. Nice hotel-like decor but I'd allocate a solid 45-minutes for breakfast.

Yelp
Good but on the pricey side. The food was not so fantastic that it set them apart from any other place. I opted for salmon benedict and I was really expecting the standard slice of tomato on there. But it only came w/the muffin, smoked salmon, egg, hollandaise. Coffee was ok and they were super generous with the refills.

Yelp
Food was good enough, but there was an issue with the charge...but first the food: I had the chicken pesto sandwich. The chicken was a bit dry and it needed more pesto flavor, but it wasn't a bad flavor combination overall. And the bun was toasted perfectly. The fries were only ok. Office Mom got the prime burger; she thought it was only ok, but the bacon strip I stole was great. Coworker got the crab salad; I tasted a piece of crab, it wasn't particularly flavorful, but at least it wasn't fishy. Dessert: The caramel brownie was awesome, probably my favorite part of the meal. The lemon tart was meh, and the tart Milano (can't remember the name) was death by chocolate and pretty dry - would not recommend. Then comes the billing portion of the meal. We had a cert, which they took off correctly (and thank goodness - it's got the typical higher hotel restaurant prices). When they went to charge the debit card, they put an extra $13 or so on there. Office Mom gets a text each time her card is used, so she was able to compare it to the bill. When she questioned them about it, first they tried to tell her the charge wasn't closed out yet - but uh, we're treasury folks, we know how the banks work and that's just incorrect... Then we were told the system went down and that they would credit her back the next day - which they did, eventually, but it was still a questionable incident. When all's been said and done, eat here if you can get a discount, but check your charges.

Yelp
This lil' gem was located in the hotel we stayed at whilst in Chicago - Millennium's Knickbocker. We went down for breakfast twice while staying in the hotel, and it was just all around delicious, quaint, and perfect. Went for the eggs Benedict with salmon the first go around....yes...not vegetarian but fish is the only exception....technically that's pescatarian but anyways. It was simply amazing. Th 2nd dish consisted of an spinach omelet....there was another ingredient or two but they've escaped me at the moment. It was delicious but the salmon eggs Benedict was definitely the better choice of the two. Both dishes came with a side order of seasoned red potatoes - also amazing. Both of the waiters were super friendly and on the ball as far as keeping my java intake flowing. Service was great - food came out quickly. Overall, both visits consisted of a lovely breakfast experience. They are more on the $$ end as far as breakfast goes but definitely worth it.

Yelp
This review is about the service, not the food, as twice I was unable to actually eat here. First morning (I was staying at the hotel), the host said it would be a 20-30 minute wait so, I went to the West Egg Cafe near the convention I was attending. The second morning I had more time so I thought I'd give it another try. Was seated by the same host. Waited. Busboy approached with coffee. I asked if I could order. He demurred. Waited 8 minutes without seeing any servers OR anyone actually eating....hmmm.....bad sign. At 11 minutes waiter appeared with a tray. The people next to me pleaded 'sir, where is our breakfast??' He answered 'it's on the third tray after this one!' I quietly left. Knickerbocker: lovely hotel! Breakfast room needs attention!

Yelp
Just tried it because of the certificate from restaurant.com. The food was okay. Goose Island BBQ Chicken was too sweet. Grilled Asparagus was tasty. A bit expensive. Not a big fan....

Yelp
We are staying close by so we decided to try out Nix. So happy we gave it a shot. The food was delicious - I had the poached eggs over green salsa and potatoes. What really stood out about this place was Andre, our server. He was incredibly friendly, helpful, and attentive. Loved how personable he was and how well taken care of we were. The other guys never left us without beverages and we're also very friendly.

Yelp
Went for breakfast before checking out of the Knickerbocker after celebrating my beau's birthday. Kinda spendy (wish I would've known they are on Restaurant.com). Omelets were yummay. Nice hotel restaurant.

Yelp
Went there for dinner Friday night. The fresh fish special was softshell crab po boy. I love softshell crab. This po boy was LE-GIT. They fly the softshell crab in live. 'Nuff said. One of the best soft shell crab po boys I've had in Chicago.

Yelp
I honestly debated between giving a 2 or 3 star rating. The restaurant was clean and had a nice setup. Our waiter was friendly enough, although he charged us for two coffees when we only ordered one. He fixed it no problem. At this point we were ready to pay but he just dropped the fixed bill on the table and walked away. After a few minutes, I went to find him and he was up front counting money when I handed him our bill. A bit odd. The food is what really brought down the score. I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito and it had a very strange taste ... Almost like a kitchen wash rag. And my boyfriend said his eggs tasted funny as well. It was a big on the expensive side for what it was. I wish we had enjoyed it more because the hotel itself was fantastic.

Yelp
My husband & I were staying at the hotel and had breakfast here a couple of times. Everyone is very friendly. We stopped by on a Saturday about 11:30 and asked if they were still serving breakfast. Even though they weren't, the waiter said it wouldn't be a problem and brought us breakfast menus. The food is very good and they give you a lot of it! My omlette was super fluffy and very filling. The next day I had the waffles. Again, super fluffy and very tasty. Our waiter brought out 3 different butters for me to try.

Yelp
Located inside of the Knickerbocker hotel is a nice, comfortable restaurant with a simple menu. The ambiance is good, the food is good, and the service is very good. When I was there, the director of the hotel was having lunch with a few executives. So, is it fair to say that I received a little better service? Probably so. But, I still have to rate it a four out of five because I reserve a five for those who have great food, great service at a great price. We ordered soup, spring rolls, and a crab cake sandwich, and all were delicious. We also used a restaurant.com certificate without any problems whatsoever.

Yelp
liked the warm pretzel roll, got the kobe burger which was a little too dry but still good. also got the prosciutto flatbread w/ mushrooms which was pretty darn delicious. not sure if i'd crave it per se but it wasn't a bad meal
