Where To Eat & Drink In St. Louis - The Infatuation

"With bright green and turquoise walls and a pink garage door, Nixta looks like it was designed by your grade school art teacher who dressed like Frida Kahlo (there’s a large portrait of her inside too). This Mexican spot in Tower Grove focuses on shared plates and cocktails, and between the colorful space and amount of mezcal being passed around, it feels like you’re at an indoor/outdoor dinner party at a friend’s place. Their seasonal menu changes frequently, but the ceviche, octopus, and guacamole are all excellent. If you only have one dinner in St. Louis, make sure it’s here." - Jen Maylack

Ben Poremba’s vibrant Mexican-inspired restaurant returned to the Delmar Maker District in 2025 with ceviches, aguachiles, and a lively bar program. Covered extensively by St. Louis Magazine, it remains a celebratory, flavor-forward staple.

I've been wanting to check out the new Nixta that recently reopened in Delmar Maker District. We finally dined here on Tuesday night. It's a gorgeous restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating options. I'm obsessed with Nixta's interior design, from selecting the perfect tables/chairs to creating a vibrant, Instagrammable dining space with inviting atmosphere. They also played very very good music. It definitely made my night more enjoyable. I was craving for seafood, and Nixta definitely delivered. We ordered guacamole, Baja cod tacos, mixto ceviche, tamales, and churros. For me, the real winner at Nixta would be the mixto Mexican ceviche. It's a perfect balance of acidity, heat, and freshness. Guacamole was heavenly good. The cod in Baja tacos was crispy fried but lacking of taste, and texture. Service was friendly and attentive. Jonathan, the manager also brought out gelato for my son. He was so kind and welcoming. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience at Nixta. We loved it and will definitely come back. Highly recommended!

Came down for the Cinco de Mayo block party. Had an absolute blast sitting at the bar and taking in the whole vibe. The staff were wonderful, recommended some great drinks and a mezcal flight. Very busy event but they took great care of us!

Ignore the reviews from the prior location - the old nixta is dead. The food used to be great; it’s now mildly bad bar food. The chips appeared to be two different bags of store bought chips mixed into a bowl (see different shape and style in photo)… so disappointing and frankly pretty wild to do that. Even if they claim made in house, I promise you won’t think that. The salsa was pretty good but literally was served in a shot glass-style cup with a teeny tiny spoon?

Wow! This restaurant was fantastic. The atmosphere was very welcoming. I really need to know who did the art that was hung up behind the bar, if I could purchase it for my house I would 10/10. Pineapple tiradito was by far the best appetizer. We also got a quesadilla and the molé sauce was the best I’ve ever had. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

The reopened Nixta on Delmar is a delight! We enjoyed our guacamole app, hamachi aguachile, mixto ceviche, al pastor tacos, & carne asada tacos. Everything was tasty but the tacos were particularly outstanding. The sweet and savory balance from the al pastor tacos left us craving another helping. We cannot wait to return and try a few more dishes off the revamped menu. Bravo, Ben! This new location is sure to be a hit.

I took a group there from out of town. The space is neat but the food is not so good. First off when you order salsa and chips the salsa comes in a tiny cup with a very small spoon that you have to used to put the salsa on each chip individually, which is super annoying and now everybody at the table has to finger a small spoon. The tacos were okay. The quesadilla was tasteless. The margaritas were expensive and not very good. My guests ordered some of the other entrees and none of them were impressed at all. The food is bland and has very little spice, something similar to what you might be served at a nursing home. There is so much good Mexican food in St louis, this place is trying to reinvent the wheel on Mexican food and failed. I really really wanted to love this restaurant. The food is also grossly overpriced.

Google
PERFECT dining experience. I don’t leave reviews that often but I HAD TO for this restaurant bc omg it was an insanely amazing time. We got guac, a mezcal flight, I got tinga tacos, he got ceviche tuna, and we shared the tres leches cake. Standouts were the guac and the cake! The guac was so pungent and flavorful and the cake was so rich and creamy. The waiter saw me picking cilantro off my tacos and offered to bring it back to the kitchen and remove all the cilantro, which was so kind and above and beyond. We also got cocktails which were very interesting flavors and super refreshing and strong. Thank you for such an amazing experience!!!!

Google
We visit St Louis occasionally and we enjoyed Nixta at the old location at Tower Grove. The new building/location looks great but the food is no longer recommended. We sat near the kitchen and watching them use Costco brand tortilla chips from a bag was a bit shocking - given the price point of the restaurant. From my view of the kitchen virtually nothing is prepared fresh, just a cook at a flat top warming previously cooked items that came from plastic containers. I would rate Chipotle as being more flavorful and fresh, and it is 65% less expensive. Not sure if it's new ownership - but they are all about the profit and not the food quality or dining experience.

Yelp
A re-opened concept from Ben Poremba that serves a more elevated take on Mexican cuisine. The guacamole is a must-order to start with. It was lowkey addicting. The tacos also held their own. I was actually a fan of the sweet savoriness in the Al pastor and the Baja tacos were solid, albeit a tad dry for both. The quesadilla is a hard pass. Bland, flavorless, and something you can make at home. The octopus.. was good but it didn't have enough going on aside from the mole sauce to be memorable. Flan, also, good but forgettable. Overall, I expected a bit more from Nixta. I'm a big fan of their new space, but the food just didn't really do anything for me. Favorite dishes: Guacamole, Al pastor

Yelp
Nixta met my extremely high expectations. I am so glad Ben Poremba has so many unique concepts in STL, all the restaurants add so much to the STL food scene. Tried: for drinks, veinte e ocho, pisco sour. For food, al pastor taco, crab ceviche, octopus, tamale Loved: the crab ceviche was fantastic - will definitely try more ceviche next time as well. The tacos were unique - not traditional al pastor, but still really fantastic Both drinks were top notch, I would have both again The service was great and we loved the design and raw bar - such a nice spot! Liked: the octopus was okay - it seemed like a small portion for what we got

Yelp
The cocktails, the service, and app's were all great! Sat at the bar. I had the holiday margarita, which was actually made with spiced rum and a salted rim. To die for. Date had something with mezcal (I think??) and I had a taste, it was smoky, and sweet-kind of like him-and it was wonderful. Ceviche was outstanding. 10/10 and it was spicy with a bit of green apple to sweeten it up. Yum. Pulpo (octopus) was pretty good; let's be realistic, warn a newbie--it's octopus--but they do it up RIGHT so yes, a great time to try. I'm going back, anxious to try more, great night overall.

Yelp
Ben Poremba does it again at Nixta, and let me just say, the scallop tostada is absolutely to die for. Seriously, order four of them--you'll thank me later. I also had the Baja fish tacos, which are everything you'd want in a taco and more. The highest of honors #stlouispescatarianapproved Ben has this way of changing neighborhoods for the better, and we love him for that.

Yelp
I was really excited to visit the new Nixta and it was pretty nice . Gorgeous ambience and decor . Lots of parking . Good service . Few things : they don't have the mezcal margarita that they used to have at the old location. It tasted different . We got the chips and salsa and the bowl was so tiny/narrow that there was no way to dip the chips in the salsa. Scallops aguachile was pretty tasty and so were the Al pastor tacos and the flan . The fish main was okay per my spouse . Nixta was a leader in intense flavors and they seem to be holding back a bit. Just a personal opinion . Nothing bad , but not stellar !

Yelp
What a spot! Nixta decor is on point (like all of their restaurants). The atmosphere is so chic and fun at the same time. Guac, chicken quesadilla, and street corn were 10/10. The only reason for not 5 stars is because the margaritas were just ok- they had a special holiday Marg that was $20 and tasted like cough syrup. Service was amazing and Ben even stopped by for a picture!

Yelp
My girlfriends and I had such a great time checking out this 'new' restaurant! We certainly miss the old but love how spacious and bright the new venue is! We loved the tacos, tamales and tostadas. The ceviche is beautifully presented and so delicious. We had us such great service too! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Food is just as amazing as the previous location and the vibe is even better. Love the Sikil Pak & the Baja Tacos!

Yelp
We had dinner here this evening and it was amazing. The atmosphere and ambiance are a great vibe. The food is delicious. We had the Crab Ceviche. The tamale and the sea bass. All highly recommended! A++ We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
I recommend checking out Nixta! The vibes and ambiance are wonderful. Really really appreciated the decor and the warm cozy atmosphere. Even on a Tuesday the place was full. Waitress was wonderful and very attentive. Food was incredible, highly recommend the pork tacos. They brought many refills of perfectly warm fresh tortilla chips. Everything was new and fresh, easy free parking.

Yelp
Food was excellent. The scallop tostada was the perfect appetizer. The mole sauce was incredibly flavorful without being overshadowed by heat. My entree was the Nixta Octopus and it was simply wonderful. The presentation was fantastic and, past that, the experience was a treat... crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. I also enjoyed a Don Julio 1942 Old Fashioned. My first tequila-based Old Fashioned. Very good but overpriced at $42/glass. Service was not the best... friendly folks, just overcommitted with tables.

Yelp
This was the best tamale I've ever had, and I have lived all over the country. Their margaritas are top notch, fresh ceviche that I've not had the likes of since Hawaii, and a lovely house salsa that has no chunks at all...just a chef's kiss of intense flavor packed into a sauce. The glassware, decor, and furniture give a funky, retro yet modern vibe that is simply delightful. Oh, and the staff are all incredible! 10/10, will go again.

Yelp
4 star food but on 2/1 they're going to start adding 4% extra fee to all bills (not gratuity) to milk customers out of even more money just to pay their staff. I support fair wages and equitable pay for hard working employees, but this undermines the traditional tipping system which empowers diners to reward great service directly. By imposing an arbitrary 4% fee, Nixta erodes that choice and assumes their diners are unwilling to tip fairly -- a baseless and insulting notion. It's also a form of stealth inflation. Prices should reflect the full cost of running a business, not be padded with vague add-ons. If your business requires a higher pay for employees, adjust your menu prices transparently instead of penalizing diners and making us "ask the staff to remove it." You're trying to embarrass guests and shame them for telling you to F off with your bogus fees. This practice is an abdication of responsibility. Fair wages should be the responsibility of the employer, not an extra tax on patrons. This fee sets a concerning precedent and feels like a thinly-veiled attempt to pass the buck onto loyal customers. If you truly value your staff, then own the responsibility through higher wages, not by sneaking fees sheepishly onto the bill.

Yelp
Let me start by saying, I want this restaurant to do well. Saint Louis needs good restaurants. The worst experience of the night- on the menu they have a Rose of the Day, Prosecco Rose and a cava. I ordered the Prosecco Rose. They sent me the rose of the day. When I told the waitress she went to speak to I'm assuming the manager and she came back to inform me that I was confused and must have wanted the cava because they do not have a Prosecco rose on the menu. After much back and forth she was committed to gaslighting me about the fact there was no Prosecco rose on the menu and I should just get the cava. I had no fight in me left so surrendered and took the flat cava. Food- when you order the chips and salsa just know the salsa comes in a half filled shot glass so you'll need about 1 per guest. I am only posting because my friends and I could not get past the arguing over what their menu was. If you are out of most of the wine on your menu, just be honest. I'm a 35 year old SAHM, I get gaslit all day, don't make me pay for it.

Yelp
Vibes are 10/10, food is 5/10. The salsa comes in a half filled shot glass (not possible to dip a chip into) with a tiny spoon in it........... you expect me to spoon my salsa onto every chip????? That being said, I'd go back just for drinks because its so cute inside

Amanda L.

Yelp
Amazing decor, service was stellar and food was interesting. Have always wanted to try mole. The best churros I've ever had! Guacamole was really good. I would come back just for the churros!

John C.

Yelp
Authentic in some ways. Dicey neighborhood. Appreciate the owners working to improve it.

Alex D.

Yelp
Cool spot with great vibes, stl needs more restaurants with this type of attention to ambiance. Great place for cocktails. Food wise carne asada tacos were a highlight for us but it was all great.

Dan H.

Yelp
Even better than the old Nixta, and staff is remarkably efficient already. Had sikil pak, ceviche mixto, scallop tostada, tinga tacos and a flan along with a couple of cocktails and a well-chosen mezcal. All were excellent. Beautiful space and great service.
