Make a Beeline to No Pasa Nada for Charcoal-Grilled Al Pastor and Steak Tacos | Eater Chicago

"Hidden between a muffler shop and a strip mall, this wooden-cabin taqueria announces itself with the aromas of asada and al pastor from the grill and a trompo set up out front. Owner Isaac Jauregui captures the surreal charm of a Mexican taqueria—heartfelt hospitality and charcoal-kissed flavors—in a small corner of Chicago, and the place has rightly been abuzz since opening in May 2025. The short menu includes steak, al pastor, and veggie tacos. Start with thinly sliced al pastor in a lightly fried, chewy tortilla; charcoal char around the edges adds texture and flavor—order con todo for all the garnishes, including pineapple. The asada is good quality, tender, and well-seasoned, finished with a slice of avocado, with limes standard. Both salsas deliver, a green that skews orangy from its time over charcoal and a red, and while there are steak and al pastor burritos plus a breakfast option with egg and ham, you’re here for the tacos. Drinks include horchata and coffee, and an unlisted but now available atole in different flavors. The vibe is part taco stand, part garage party, with one coveted first-come table for four in back against a turf-green backdrop and a view of both the grill and the muffler shop. Best for al pastor fans and anyone chasing a quick bite—solo, late-night, or pre/post-party—with hours until 11 p.m. most nights. Insider tip: stop by in the evening or call ahead to confirm the trompo is already going; credit cards are accepted." - Brenda Storch

The tacos were delicious, I got two steaks and a veggie. Everyone already raved about the carne asada so I don’t need to talk much about that. The veggie is surprisingly delectable as well, it comes with mushrooms, cheese, tomato, and avocado. All combined to create a great vegetarian option that is comparable to the popular meat options. I usually get mine with no onions because sometimes they’re overpowering but this time I’m glad I got them because of how finely the onions are chopped, allowing me to fully enjoy an authentic taco experience 😋

We had just finished a very long hike , and didn’t want to be stuck in traffic. We found this place by chance and WOW!!! A must try. The owner is so kind. The food is so fresh, and it’s just him and the kitchen. We had the Steak, pastor, cheese tacos, guacamole, and horchata. EVERYTHING tasted so fresh. Outdoor seating so your pup can even come !

Google
This small and humble hole-in-the wall spot is serving up some seriously big flavors. Your nose gets the first bite here with all the charcoal-grilled meats. As expected, both al pastor and steak were so flavorful and packed with a delectable smokiness. Service was warm and lovely. Truly a hidden gem!

Stopped by with my wife and son and the owner gave my son a quesadilla to snack on while we waited. The steak tacos are delicious and fresh off the grill. The red salsa is legit and tastes like what mom makes. The owner is very passionate and the food is delicious.

I can’t say enough phenomenal things about No Pasa Nada team! They are very caring towards their customers. You don’t feel like a customer, you feel more like a family member. Their prices are really reasonable! The tacos are *chefs kiss* I’m so happy the are opened during lunch hours while I’m at work. Definitely going to continue coming back for more tacos! They’re a good option too your office needs catering! (We are a team of 8) everyone enjoyed their food!

Google
I was late and almost missed the best Al pastor tacos in town. Carne asada is a Top Choice but this Al pastor is on another level! Straight Fire 👌🏽STRONGLY RECOMMEND

Yelp
I really liked this place! The meats are char grilled so each taco has all those crispy meat bits you'd want with a lot of smoky flavor. The tacos are a little pricier but they're larger than an average street taco and worth it! One thing though, be sure to check if they're open or not!

Yelp
Excellent food, all on charcoal, pastor on a charcoal spit! This place is a gem! The steak was outstanding. New place check them out, the owner works at a top tier Chicago restaurant. Some of the best I've had!
