Portland’s Best Halal Restaurants

"This Southeast Powell food cart, in a John’s Marketplace pod, stuffs lightly blistered flatbread with well-seasoned halal lamb or little balls of falafel, joined by lettuce, tomato, pickles, olives, and tzatziki. The gyros come wrapped with thicker pita while thinner saj envelopes the wraps; regardless of the choice, these sandwiches are gargantuan with nice attention to detail, balancing zippy sauces with plenty of pops of brine or pickle. For dessert, an order of pistachio baklava is a must. Customers can drop in or place orders online through Doordash or Uber Eats." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
Flavor explosion - Blew my mind!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOAHS HALAL SHAWARMA!!!! SATIATING YOUR TASTE BUDS IN A WAY YOU DIDN'T KNOW YOU NEEDED. This is the most delicious and legit Kebab Wrap I have had in the United States!! The kebab is cooked and seasoned perfectly, it's tender and fresh. The lavash is warm and soft, expertly toasted on the grill. And then the sauce and pickles push it over the top for a solid 10/10!! These wraps are large! But SO GOOD, you'll be totally full and considering a second one for indulgence! (I took one for the road!) They have about 5 different wrap combinations. Lamb, chicken, kebab, lamb and chicken, and I believe beef but don't quote me. THEN they ALSO have: 🔥 Gyros 🔥 Salads with a topping of Lamb, Chicken, or Beef. Are you a vegetarian? My condolences... BUT!!! They have falafel, hummus, babaganoush, salad, etc. The gentleman running the show is not only a great cook but very friendly, attentive to his guests, and made for a very welcome and pleasant experience! CASH is preferred, but they have Square and take Cards of course. It's located next to John's Marketplace with an assortment of other food carts/trailers with a permanent outdoor seating area including some large picnic style tables, tables with chairs, bar top type tables, and it's a covered permanent awning, so no rain woes. While you are having a unicorn of a kebab wrap, there's a shop just to the right that has beer on tap, and an assortment of other vendors so you're good even if the person with you doesn't feel like having an amazing shawarma experience!! No worries, you can't save everones. --------------------------------- I fell in love with Kebab wraps while I was travelling in Amsterdam 10 years ago... I have tried dozens and dozens of kebab wraps in the U.S. since then and found some good ones, but none compared. UNTIL, I found NOAHS HALAL SHAWARMA! This is the hookup for amazing gyros and shawarma!

Google
It's possibly one of the best gyros I've had. It's surprising since this comes from a food cart. Meat is tender and fresh, extra sauce provided, and affordable prices. If this place was closer, I would always choose this cart. The dolma is also super good.

Google
Portland—DO NOT SLEEP on Noah Halal! I purchased a beef and rice plate tonight. I am SO IMPRESSED with the food and service. Both men working the cart were exceptionally kind and welcoming. The food is top notch! Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the serving was massive. I rarely enjoy leftovers, but I’m actually excited to finish my plate tomorrow.

Google

I'm a fan or both the Kosher and Halal designations, with an admittedly sketchy understanding of all the details, but a belief that an additional level of supervision in food processing gives consumers a less Upton Sinclair-ish source of sustenance. I was excited at the number of menu options I found at Noah Halal, and surprised myself by trying something that was outside my list of typical choices. I went with a Kabab Gyro, yes to tzatziki, and no to the hot sauce. I loved it. The tzatziki, along with bits of olive and a slice of pickle provided great counterpoint in temperature, texture, and chewiness to the meat. The symbiotic relationship of this cart pod with John's Marketplace means that a meal here can benefit from an extremely well curated beer selection. Having a beer with lunch on a weekday is an unexpected benefit of being retired. Noah Halal is a solid choice at a cart pod full of quality options.

Google
Noah Halal is sooo good! Falafel tastes fresh, my order came out timely and hot! The lamb gyro is also delicious. Great food here, and the vibe of the pod is nice. I like the fire pit and seating availability.

Yelp
Lots of parking and located with a group of other food trucks. Gyros were huge and fairly priced. Friendly and straightforward service.

Yelp
This place is on the pricer side, but it's honestly worth it. One time I even made the mistake of ordering through DoorDash for pickup (which has a $4 fee added) and honestly I wasn't even that upset because the food is so good. I usually order the chicken shawarma wrap, which is always delicious, but I switched it up last time and got a falafel gyro. Look, I have been burned by so many bad falafels over the years I gave up. The falafel itself is usually bland and dry and just not enjoyable. Or the gyro comes with an uninspiring mix of shredded lettuce and a sad tomato where it's clear nobody at that establishment thinks vegetarians deserve to be happy. But not here. This is the BEST falafel gyro I have ever had. So loaded with goodies they actually give you a fork to eat it. Not one bite was bland, and the falafel was perfectly cooked and not dry at all. Sorry chicken wrap, I think I found my new go-to item. It also takes a lot to lure me away from the Jojo's patty melt but there have been plenty of evenings I find my feet walking to this cart of their own free will and I am never sad about it.

Yelp
Food was absolutely amazing!! Everything is fresh and handmade. The hummus was so smooth and creamy. The lamb is delicious with or without the spicy sauce. The garlic sauce is a must!!

Bre M.

Yelp
One of the best falafel wraps I've had in a long time! The guy working was super friendly and I will forsure be back.
google avatar

Mimi S.

Yelp
Lovely staff! Very friendly! Delicious food for good prices! We've been twice, and so far, very consistent!
google avatar

Bryan I.

Yelp
Unfortunately the last 3 times we went the meat portions in their triple meat & lamb plates were reduced and replaced with more rice; they no longer match what is pictured on the menu. Maybe they got a new cook who's stingier with the meat? Regardless, combined with prices increasing by $2 it's not as good as a deal as it was a few months ago.

Yelp
My goal when I arrived at this little food truck gathering space was to procure a fried chicken sandwich (which was awesome) . But I'm half middle eastern and have great difficulty passing by the smell of shawarma and gyro. My wife, reading my mind, nodded "yes" before I could speak. Then I saw they had lamb and was sold. We ended up choosing lamb gyro. I also saw they had pistachio baklava which is my absolute favorite. Folks, When I bit into the gyro and then the baklava I felt my nana's ghost haunt me with happiness. It was like being transported to my youth when we used to stop for some food. The baklava tasted exactly as baklava is supposed to taste...sweet but not overly so. The taste of pistachio coming through clearly and the light crunch of the dough. I could go on but you get the point. Please, do yourself a favor and go here. You'll be very pleased.

Yelp
Did a pick up order of the chicken shawarma and order of fries. Sooooo good !! Highly recommend !

Yelp
Not only do they have amazing lamb, but the owners are so kind. One hot summer day my son was playing at the food carts, and the owner brought him a bottle of water. Such kindness. My sister lives in Dubai and when she came to visit, she ate their food and said it tasted like home! So delicious, speedy service, and wonderful people.

Nova N.

Yelp
Best gyro I've had in Portland yet! Great service too. It's cheaper if you order at the cart instead of using yelp though.

Yelp
We have searched high and low for decent Gyros in town and finally found them here. The owners/staff are always friendly and accommodating. The location is fantastic with lots of parking, other food carts around, and John's Marketplace next door. After many visits and orders they have yet to disappoint!

Yelp
I couldn't believe how large this was for the price! Such a filling lunch, and delicious. The garlic sauce was

Yelp
Rude and condescending attitude of the server when I asked if bread and sauce were vegan. The food was lousy and the grape leaves tasted like they were canned.
google avatar

Gohar S.

Yelp
Got the combo wrap and it was delicious! The flavors were really great as was the over all quality. The size of the sandwich was fine, it was pretty meaty and I liked the bread. Got the hot sauce and it was not very hot, it was good flavor, very tolerable. Will have to try another item next time around!

Yelp
I'd passed by here last week, was surprised by the change in the area. No more Original Taco house - now John's Marketplace and...food carts! Stopped in to peruse food carts, decided to come back and give them a try. Came in yesterday for lunch, g/f went ahead and ordered the Triple Meat plate and an order of Hummus. They handed us a pager (!), and we waited in the pleasant afternoon sun. Wait seemed a bit long but eventually our meal came. Brought it home, (crappy) pic is below. Three huge pitas were included - I'm guessing two for the hummus, one for the other. Or the other way around. Meats, tzatziki, hummus, pita were all darned tasty. Fragrant, pleasantly spiced, all good. We'd do this again. $20 for the two.

Cryst M.

Yelp
Gyros are so good! Tzatziki is perfect too. Owner is so nice and I like to support good owners.
google avatar

Arun S.

Yelp
Just tried one item. But that was amazing. Plate gyro with Beef and lamb. Must say one of the best I have had so far. Melt in the mouth meat with excellent Rice , salad and hummus to go with it. Will try more from them next time we are in rose city food cart area.

Dan J.

Yelp
delivery driver here. I just got yelled at the owner. I told him who I was picking up for and he just started going off. angry old man, I'm just trying to do my job
google avatar

Kristina R.

Yelp
This place is great! Service is always friendly & informative. Food comes out quick via buzzer. Gives you time to get beer @ John's Market. I love their lamb gyro with spicy and garlic sauce. Flavors are amazing!! Lots of pickles too! Great portion size for price.

Leah P.

Yelp
Noah Halal is the BEST! The food is always unbelievable and the portions are massive. I've never not had left overs. The guys that work there are awesome and always work to make sure you get what you're looking for. I cannot recommend enough

Karlee A.

Yelp
Always stop in to grab a wrap. Have tried most of the items off the menu. They're all delicious. A lot of options around for drinks and great music. The gentleman that runs it majority of the time is very kind, great service! Def recommend giving it a try if you haven't.
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
I love supporting family businesses and small businesses, esp during the covid shut down so I tried out Noah Halal - am am so glad I did! With so many delicious items on their menu board, I asked for the most popular item. They said the lamb gyro and so that is what I ordered. YUMMMMMY! Not only did it have the perfect amount of taziki sauce (some places don't put enough) but the meat was incredibly tender. It was also spicy and tasty and not gamey or grisyley, like lamb can sometimes be. The family was very friendly and the food cart was incredibly clean. The new location also has lots of outdoor seating and since it was a nice day, I took my gyro and had a little picnic for one. I'd definitely recommend stopping by the carts on 35th and Powell and trying this family restaurant out.
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
Love these guys! Food is so good and they are really friendly. I used to live right next door and I still will go out of my way to grab some food every now and then. It's also super convenient that it's located right next to the John's Market beer window so you can grab food, grab a beer and enjoy the outdoor seating. Go there!
google avatar

Andi A.

Yelp
So delicious! Loved their fries with lamb gyro with a feta sauce and olives. Big enough to share with two people. Will def be back. Thank you!
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
I was suspicious of the other 5 star reviews but 24 hours later and I'm still thinking about the lamb gyro I had. Honestly the best I've ever had. (Caveat that I was vegetarian for 20 years and not even close to a regular gyro eater.) Actually thinking how I'd love to eat it again tonight.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
I came during a Mediterranean food craving. Everything was very fresh and tasty. The chicken plate had a perfect mix of flavors. I also got the dolma plate which tasted good, but the rice was sort of hard. Overall, the food generally hit the spot!
google avatar

Howard K.

Yelp
I had the chicken plate, everything tasted fresh and delicious and served on time.I highly recommend this food truck
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Literally so gooood. I went here yesterday for the first time and ordered the beef arabi and let me tell you it was so delicious! Can't wait to try more things, I'll definitely continue to make the drive over here.
google avatar

TBone S.

Yelp
So delicious. Got the falafel plate. The rice is so tasty. Hummus and tzatziki, fabulous. And the best falafel I've ever had in this town.

Rachel H.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I had been craving some good Mediterranean food and the kabob plate totally hit the spot. Service was extremely friendly and the wait was not long at all. Definitely give this place a try. You won't regret it!
google avatar

Alexandra J.

Yelp
Noah Halal is our favorite food truck! We've been going since they were on SW 10th, we had to try it after seeing several people walking around with a "saj". Sadly that food truck pod closed for the construction of a Ritz Carlton. We always order the lamb saj w/ garlic and spicy sauce. If you love gyros, you will love this, I think even more. All the staff we've met are also really great. I walked by the SW 5th food carts today and was so sad to not see the truck there! A quick google search brought me here... this truck is now much further but we would support them anywhere! If you're reading this please, please try them you will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
The food is delicious! I got the chicken gyro. I see a lot about the great service here on yelp but unfortunately the guy was so rude to me. I'm not rude at all because I work in food service and know how it is. Maybe he was just having an off day. :(

Alex Z.

Yelp
Get one of their plates, they're really good and will satisfy the craving for kebab. They pay attention to detail here, so the rice and pita come out perfect. I should have taken a picture, but alas, too hungry...
google avatar

Johnathan F.

Yelp
Simply fantastic. I cannot stress how delicious the food is here. So far I've only had the chicken and Lamb Arabi but I can't wait to go back. The mixture of flavor and texture is very well balanced. This is, dare I say, succulent perfection. I highly recommend you give them a try as soon as possible. The owner and his wife are very friendly and affable (I had to look that word up) and add to the joy I've felt during my past two visits. I'd post a picture of my food but I ate it. Very quickly.
google avatar

Sami K.

Yelp
Holy crap- seriously might be the best falafel gyro I've ever had. End of story. Like, lick the extra sauce off the plate kind of good. Will definitely be making this a regular stop for lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Charlotte G.

Yelp
Noah Halal ALWAYS does right by me. Fantastic food and service. I highly recommend the lamb gyro. Anything they make is so good. Extra sauce and pickles. Heaven.
google avatar

brendan h.

Yelp
Best Gyros I've had in so long. I day dream about this place. Going again tonight for more.

Squire B.

Yelp
Pretty good Falafel Plate. Could have used a bit more salad. Falafel was tasty and not too dry. My wife git a lamb plate, and was disappointed that that had used the meat from a lamb gyro rather than real pieces of lamb. Overall: above average, but not the 5-star food that we were hoping for

Peter V.

Yelp
I can't tell you how much we LOVE this food truck/restaurant. Very nice people and the food is incredible. I hate to say that with two young kids we often use a delivery app to get the food to our house, but we look so forward to it after putting the kids to bed. Lamb plate and lamb wraps are seriously the best in the city - and some of the best food of this genre we have ever had. Cheers and thanks so much

Justin C.

Yelp
THe Noah Hala makes some good food. I tried the Beef Kabob and I found it to be really good and fairly priced.

Josh K.

Yelp
Noah Halal is delicious! Get the chicken plate and you will not be disappointed. The hummus and tzatziki are amazing and blend so well with the rest of the plate, pickles included. Add some garlic sauce, too. The wraps are stellar as well, though I prefer the plates as you get a hefty serving of saffron rice with them. They are friendly and have service down. Your order will be done in 5-10m tops unless it's a really busy weekend. Grab a draft beer at John's Marketplace while you wait! Perfect combo

Amber C.

Yelp
I'm devouring the best lamb gyro of my life with my left hand and writing this review with my right because I can't be bothered to wait until I'm done eating to post this review - IT'S THAT GOOD! The lamb is so tender and flavorful, the pita is soft and chewy, and it's generously topped with tzatziki and feta. Don't even waste your time going somewhere else. THIS is the jam!

Bethany M.

Yelp
We've been to the Powell food carts several times and each time I gravitate to Noah Halal. Their Lamb gyro is so tasty. The lamb is well seasoned, many vegetables and tzatziki (garlic and spicy sauce upon request). The pita is fluffy and fresh. It's a super deal that can make two meals for $7.99. The staff was friendly and efficient. The order was ready quickly and the to go packaging held up on the ride home.
google avatar

Cassie F.

Yelp
So nice and the lamb plate and gyro are the best things on the menu! Perfectly seasoned and exactly what I'm looking for when I order a gyro.
google avatar

Mason J.

Yelp
Noah Halal has easily my favorite Lamb Wrap in all of Portland. Ask for the spicy garlic sauce! Its sooooooo worth the $10!

Cristina C.

Yelp
I ordered the Triple Meat Platter and would agree with another reviewer, SO little meat!!!! All meat tasted fine but they fill the container with rice and only put a thin layer of meat on top. The menu image is not accurate. Spend your money on something else.

Colin M.

Yelp
Lamb gyro and falafel gyro were exactly what we were craving. Generous portions. Garlic sauce and hot sauce were both amazing. Delicious food in what appears to be a nice, new food truck enclave on Powell. Was easy to park etc. Place was hopping on a Wednesday, too. Definitely headed back.

Catherine C.

Yelp
Awesome gyros! One of the best I've ever had. Yummm. Looks like there's some other good carts there and a bar. Definitely going back!

Jess W.

Yelp
So yum! Everything tasted fresh and homemade. Would recommend! The pita was SO good and the falafel, I want more!
