Neighborhood Ramen Review - Queen Village - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"When you finish ordering at Neighborhood Ramen’s counter, you’ll get a laminated picture of a random object. Sometimes it’s a moth, or a dinosaur—other times it’s a toy truck. And while you wait for the city’s best bowl of ramen to arrive to your table, you’ll wonder why so many restaurants still give you numbers when they could be giving you butterflies instead. Unlike the more upscale Queens Village restaurants surrounding it, Neighborhood Ramen is casual. You’ll want to hang out here—even after you finish the last of your shoyu broth and see a smiley face staring up at you from the bottom of your empty bowl. photo credit: Rachel Lerro If ramen is one of those foods that you only seek out when it’s a cold, rainy day, then you haven’t been to Neighborhood Ramen. Everything, from their sides to soups, is so good that you’ll find yourself confusingly craving it on an 85-degree day in the middle of summer. There are five choices of ramen on the menu, along with one mazesoba, listed from light to heavy, and the broths are more flavorful than any other place you’ll find in Philly. Our favorite is the shoyu made with chicken broth that we’d drink straight from a mug. The only other items on the menu are a few small sides—like vinegary wontons and edamame. In between bites of food, you’ll notice the restaurant staff acts like they’re members of an indie band rather than people who just happen to work in the same place. And after delivering your order, which usually includes a bowl of oshinko (Japanese pickles) or sesame salad on the house, they’ll probably hang out for a few minutes just to tell you about the shop or ask you if you’ve seen any good shows recently. Neighborhood Ramen doesn’t take reservations, so plan to get here early—at 7pm, a line starts to wind out the door. It moves quickly, though, so you can get excited knowing that a dinosaur or a shooting star and a seriously good bowl of ramen aren't too far away. Food Rundown Sesame Salad Simple, clean, and just a little sweet, the sesame salad is a good addition to your ramen if you want to start with something on the lighter side. Shoyu Ramen This is the most classic ramen you’ll find on the menu, with a chicken broth base, silky noodles, and toppings of pork chashu, scallions, and a soy egg. We like all the ramen, but this one is our favorite. Yasai Ramen Neighborhood Ramen’s only vegetarian option is filled with mushrooms and tastes like a chicken noodle soup that grew up and got its PHD." - Sydney McElwee

The upgraded ramen is impressive, especially for the pork jowl meat, garlic oil and spicy mince meat.

Saw this place while walking around the city and decided to stop by, and we don't regret it! This place has such a warm, inviting interior and the service was spectacular! Our food was served quickly and was hot! The food was delicious and so mouth watering! Highly recommend this place!!!

This place is definitely a must try Japanese food place. We came as a group of 6 people for Saturday lunch, and it wasn’t crowded so we got seated right away. I love the cozy vibe of the restaurant and the Japanese mask decorations were really cute. I got a Shrimp buns and it was amazing. My friends got other buns and a Nom Nom Ramen, and they all said that their orders tasted amazing. The price was standard, not expensive. But the thing that made me remember about the restaurant the most was the service. The owner gave us free fried shrimp!! How nice of him. The waiter was friendly as well. It was an authentic taste of Japanese food. Would love to come back and try more dishes!!

Solid food with fast, friendly service. We got the chicken katsu with katsu sauce, aka nom nom ramen and pork tonkatsu ramen.

Delicious Ramen! I got the Aka Nom Nom and it had the perfect amount of flavor and spice and everything was cooked to perfection. Service is great and the atmosphere is also very cozy.

Yelp
Came here on a cool Philly night and I really wanted to warm up and was craving ramen. I walked in as they were closing so I took it to go. Also, the owner advised me they only had one ramen left which was fine with me because that was all I wanted. I had the Karai spicy miso with fragrant black garlic oil. Ordered it with double pork. It was amazing and hit the spot, just what the doctor ordered! I would order this again and again, I ate the entire bowl. I took it to go but Nom Nom is a small restaurant. Go for the ramen, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I came to Nom Nom at the suggestion of a friend, as I'd never been to a ramen restaurant before, and this experience totally made me a fan. First off, the place is a bit on the small side, with plenty of compact booths and tables to maximize on the space. It was a cold day out, and so the space felt cozy and intimate. The waiter was very quick and very efficient, and must have been working there for a long tome because he seemed to know a lot of the customers. He even knew my friend well enough to remind him of his favorites from the menu. Now like I said, this was my first time trying ramen, and I just ordered what my friend did, which was simply a bowl of ramen full of absolute deliciousness! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Best ramen I've had in a long time. It was so flavorful and the man who served us was so nice. I wanted to stop in again but we didn't have the time.

Yelp
We enjoy a good Ramon spot. Nom nom is as good as you're going to find in this area. Excellent service, small but nicely decorated dining room. I will say the pork belly was excellent. We enjoyed the pork belly bao buns and the pork in the Ramon. The Ramon broth was delicious. Only way to improve would be if they offered homemade noodles. Nice ramen restaurant I will plan to return
google avatar

Yelp
Second time I came here, got crowded really fast, glad we came earlier. Really enjoyed this spot! Quick service, and the ramen is great. Spot is a decent size and is busy so it gets a little loud, but that didn't bother us. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
As soon as I walked in, the server had my water, menu and chopsticks/spoon ready for me. Broth is delicious, flavorful and has a little bite. Although a small bowl for $18, it does taste good, especially on an October evening. Restaurant is nice, small, dimmed lights and background music (perfect for my Ramen slurping-and yes, a sign of a tasty flavor). Recommend and would return. Thank you.

Yelp
The pork jowl ramen pork is incredibly tender and flavorful. The service is still so fast!!! This place remains so underrated.

Yelp
Perfect spot to go to on a cold winter day. I went here during my lunch break and it's nice to sit and people watch with a bowl of ramen. I recommend their signature Aka Nom Nom. The service was excellent and it was relatively quiet being closer to the front of the restaurant. I am glad I gave this spot another chance (I had a mid takeout experience, but that's what I get for getting ramen to go).
google avatar

Sharon S.

Yelp
Nom Nom is my go-to ramen place when I'm around the center city area. I raved about the Aka nom nom ramen to my family and they all ended up ordering the same thing! We loved the rich broth and the flavorful chashu. I wish their aka bomb (spicy seasoning topper) was a bit more spicy!! If I'm not mistaken, their aka bomb is milder now than it was years ago. Or maybe I'm just a spice fiend LOL. This is a relatively small place and when I went, there was only 1 waiter/host. So service is a *bit* slow when it is busy, but worth the wait!
google avatar

Areej S.

Yelp
Some of the best ramen in philly - the broth is super duper flavourful. I got the tan tan ramen and they nailed it. As someone who avoids pork when they can, i really appreciate ramen places who do chicken chashu and do it well. I also added the aka bomb which just took it to another level. The place is also super intimate and great for solo dining as well as a date spot. My only complaint would be the price point, but you do get a huge bowl. It'd be awesome if they did a small and a regular option though.

Yelp
Okay. I stopped by this place on a Sunday evening while on a business trip. My general rule of thumb is to not judge a restaurant based on Sunday or Mondays. That being said, this restaurant is the exception to the rule. I had the pork belly buns and the aka Ramen. The flavors in both of these were amazing. You should definitely give this place a shot. The broth in the Aka Ramen is simmered for 36 hours! Also, prices were very reasonable. The restaurant itself is on the smaller size but nicely appointed. The server was efficient and attentive. Can't say enough nice things about this place.
google avatar

Elise P.

Yelp
I'm a fan of the Aka Nom Nom ramen here. It's a rich broth which nice fixings included and it's well balanced. I usually come here to dine in with my coworkers and we often don't have too much of an issue getting a table although if you're more than 4 people I'd suggest coming a little earlier since there's mostly 4 person tables and then some in the middle aisle of the restaurant. The service is relatively no frills, not very notable. Our wait time for food has varied greatly each time we are here, sometimes fast, sometimes 30+ minutes which made our lunch a bit more of a crunch than we'd prefer.

Atlas K.

Yelp
Came here after a somewhat failed experience at the Panda Fest 2025 that was held in Philly on April. Nom Nom Ramen made up for the experience because their Ramen was delicious. The Ramen here was pretty tasty and the place was clean and service was good.

Yelp
I was looking for a quick meal before I had to catch the train home on a cold winters night. This hit the spot. I ordered the pork belly ramen (aka nom nom) and it was the perfect meal. It's their best seller and for good reason. The pork belly literally melts in your mouth. I would go back just for that. I'm getting hungry just thinking about that dish!
google avatar

Foodie M.

Yelp
Was amazing for the shiyo broth with chicken that's the only broth without pork. Also asked for spicy and they gave me a paste on the side and was amazing.

Yelp
Classic ramen with all of the toppings available Very efficient service. Would recommend!

Yelp
Nom Nom ramen is a great spot if you just happen to randomly crave ramen. I ordered the aka nom nom ramen with pork and it tasted great. I would say it's nothing special, but again it does satisfy that ramen urge if you ever happen to get it and you're in the area. The broth was pretty rich, but a little watery. The noodles were good, a bit too al dente, but still good texture. The pork was very good lots of rich flavor. The interior was nice and had great lighting, but the tables were a bit small, we had a party of 4 and a booth felt a bit too tight. I would probably order take out only if I got Nom Nom Ramen again. The service was excellent and the server answered all our questions well and gave great recommendations.

Yelp
Often, I find it challenging to locate a good ramen spot in highly populated cities. Near Center City, Nom Nom Ramen provides a comforting bowl of ramen to warm you up on a cold Philadelphia day. I ordered the Aka Nom Nom. It is their signature ramen. The noodles were great, the toppings added great flavors to the broth, and the broth was light enough to finish and empty the bowl. The service was excellent! They always greet you with a smile, and the staff is attentive. I never had to ask to refill my glass of water. Very relaxed atmosphere. If you are looking for something quick and easy to eat, try this place. Let me know what your experience. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Stay healthy!

Yelp
Cute little place found on a side street by our Hotel for lunch. Loved the Ramen though mine was mainly all noodles. Very filling out group of 4 really enjoyed our meal and lunch. Small restaurant so if you are going during a busy time would recommend calling about reservations. We went for a late lunch and were promptly seated. Definitely a great place for Ramen if you are in Philly.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service and big portion!!! Location is very convenient!! I just don't have too much appetite therefore, I didn't finish the chicken. Overall it is great. Recommend it!

Yelp
Solid option if you are looking for a quick bite in the area. My husband and I were in a bit of a rush so we asked our server for the check while we ordered. The service was very timely and the restaurant already had other groups of diners - our food and bill came out quickly so we were able to enjoy our food at a good pace. The ramen was decent (I still have a few other spots I prefer), but does the job if you want some noodles with soup.

Yelp
I wrote a review of Nom Nom Ramen a year ago, but I wanted to revise it to further emphasize my feelings on it. There are just simply so many reasons to love Nom Nom Ramen. The first is that I've always felt very taken care of whenever I go there. I always seem to be greeted and waited on by the same person - perhaps he is the owner but I can not say. Regardless, he is incredibly warm, welcoming, and extremely attentive. Second, whether I am eating there or taking-out, my order is always ready to go in no time. That is the same whether I order it on a Saturday afternoon (which I just did this weekend), a busy weekday afternoon, or a Friday dinner. There's never a long wait even when they have multiple orders going. I love how cozy it feels in there - there's just something about the color of the wood grain on the walls and tables that just give it a nice atmosphere. And finally, let's talk about the food! I have tried many dishes there - but my go-to will always be the Aka Nom Nom Ramen. You can not ask for a more perfect bowl. I don't know what it is about the pork they add to it but it's just divine. While red ginger is not part of it as-is, I highly recommend requesting they add it - it puts it completely over the top in my personal opinion. If you're looking for great authentic ramen in Philly, look no further!

Yelp
Went early for dinner around 4:00, not busy! Service and food were great, ramen and pork buns especially. Didn't look like they had any alcohol. We're accommodating of our kids!
google avatar

Ellen Y.

Yelp
Always room for walk in, very quick service. Can't go wrong with their signature ramen. Lots of mix and matches you can do as well. Their tea was average, but they did give you the whole pot and will come refill the water. Wonderful on a chilly day.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Hands down the best ramen in Philly. Wish I could give them more than five stars! I usually get the tofu Ramen with the spicy miso broth, it is so incredibly delicious. Their Bao buns are also so good.
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
Small ramen store across Green Eggs/Harper's Garden. I was pretty surprised at the quality of the ramen, and I definitely would come back if I'm feeling for it. They have a very good selection of items on their menu. They also serve buns that are pretty decent. Look at the pictures and you can tell that the food looks delicious! I haven't really seen this place super busy and have been able to grab a seat rather easily. Service is pretty good; the waiter we had gave great recommendations! Rating: 6/10

Mitchell S.

Yelp
Had the Aki Nom Nom. The ramen egg was perfect. Service was quick and attentive. Inside was a nice vibe. Would go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Really good chasu! I normally do not like ramen chasu (because they are usually a bit bland), but their chasu is good! Really quick service. Been here twice - once for dinner, once for lunch; great service both times. The ramens are also good. I tried the shio Tonkotsu the first time and tried the nom nom bomb ramen the second time, definitely preferred the more simple version (without the umami bomb). However, the broth was great both times and the noodles were cooked Al dente. Really enjoyed it.

Derek F.

Yelp
Host tried to seat me at a hard wooden stool so I asked for something more comfortable so he sat me at a hard metal stool . There were several tables available with padded seats . What an idiot. Went somewhere else with better seating .
google avatar

Stephanie R.

Yelp
I have been here numerous times for lunch and it has never been a disappointment. I've tried several types of their noodle soups with/without meat/pork/beef. Everything is delicious! They always give the option for adding a cracked egg in your soup for an extra fee (I think it's only $1), but very much worth it. The soup is the perfect cure for any winter day. The place is small so if you're going for lunch then definitely head there earlier. It tends to fill up by 12:30.
google avatar

Morgan G.

Yelp
Got the aka nom nom ramen and was very happy. Rivals anything in Philly. The pork belly is the best I've had anywhere; very tender. Nice clean atmosphere and wonderfully polite service. All in all, good food and great service makes this my favorite ramen place in the city.
google avatar

Grace K.

Yelp
I went with a friend for dinner on a Friday night. The place isn't too big for large parties, but can seat up to 4 people comfortably. It was quiet and clean. Food came out quickly after ordering and was hot. Water was also refilled instantly and tasted fresh. We both got the Aka Nom Nom ramen and were satisfied. The noodles weren't anything special, but everything else in the bowl tasted amazing. The pork belly was flavorful and melt in your mouth. They also gave you both sides of the soft boiled egg, which my friend and I appreciated because we both love that part. A lot of ramen places in philly only give you one side, so I definitely rate this ramen higher on that principle. The broth was also very flavorful without being salty. Very smooth, I made sure to get every last drop. We also got an order of pork gyoza and Takoyaki. The gyoza were good, crispy and the pork was tender. The Takoyaki were also good. Decent portion of octopus inside, more than most places I've tried it at. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and would recommend. It's a tad pricey in my opinion, but I left full and satisfied so I would say it's worth it. Atmosphere is nice and peaceful. I could see myself coming here again.
google avatar

Benjamin K.

Yelp
Unfortunately, the quality of this place has gone down over the years. Finding the portion size to seem to have shrunk and the food not is good as it was maybe four years ago. Kind of looking for other options at this point which is a shame because I would like it to be where it was four to five years ago quality wise.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Great presentation of there Ramen, terrific service, and quite a few things to come back for besides the ramen. I took out an order of the aka ramen nom nom and the choice did not disappoint. My only criticism is I wish they had more soup options such as shrimp dumping and other noodle choices. I plan on completing a pilgramage to Chinatown to find the best overall noodle spot but if you are on the hunt for some good ramen this is a great area for a pop in and some of there other appetizer items I hear pack alot of flavor. Great for the winter season to warm you up!

Yelp
Items we ordered: 1) Aka Nom Nom Ramen (Regular) - $14 as of 7/2019. Very rich and flavorful broth. I really liked the sesame flavor in this dish. However the broth can be heavy which can make it more difficult then expected to finish so keep that in mind. 2) Shio Pork Tonkotsu (Large) - $14.50 as of 7/2019 Broth had good flavor. Not over salted and noodles were cooked perfectly. The pork was definitely the best part of it. Extremely tender (to the point of it disintegrating if you're not careful!) and full of fatty pork goodness! I enjoyed this a lot. 3) Nom nom buns (2 pieces) - $8.50 as of 7/2019 The buns themselves were so fully and fresh I wish I could use them as pillows. The pork belly filling was the same that was in the ramen (ie: Awesome!). Because the buns and pork bellies are delicate, do be careful when handling them as they can fall apart on you. Overall while this wasn't the eye opening ramen I've ever had the prices were very reasonable and the flavors good!
google avatar

Christian C.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday at 6:30 and was sat right away. Space was small but didn't seem too packed. Nom nom ramen itself was nothing too crazy, but we did order the pork buns which were quite delicious.
google avatar

Jada G.

Yelp
It was a pretty chill atmosphere overall. The seating situation can get a bit weird with the placement of the bar seats at the windows, but I liked having some natural light since the restaurant itself is a tad narrow and long. I ordered the shoyu ramen with this decadent toro (pork) meat. As far as flavors go, I'd say this ramen falls a little low on the spectrum. I wouldn't call it bland but I've had better ramen in other parts of the city for the same price. Still, it was a solid meal for a cranky body post-8k and I'd consider going back to try maybe the non-ramen food since the tonkatsu looked amazing!
google avatar

Troy L.

Yelp
I tried the aka nom nom and the shio pork belly tonkotsu ramen. Both were good. The aka nom nom comes with 36 hour broth while the shio tonkotsu ramen comes with 30 hour brother. I prefer the aka nom nom because it comes with egg and chefs special aka bomb (chefs minced pork flavor booster). I would definitely come back again if I were in Philadelphia.
google avatar

Komal R.

Yelp
This place was a total bummer. I guess the only positive thing about this place is that the service is nice and servers are friendly. You might find the pork buns tasty (especially because the pork was tender) but honestly pretty average Ramen. I mean compared to Terakawa in Chinatown, this was a total let down. I order the Nom Nom Ramen and it was supposed to be spicy but it wasn't. It was weird because the amount of noodles was crazy compared to the broth! Despite having like a bunch of ingredients, it was still completely lacking in flavor and the only spice I could taste was a lot of black pepper. I dont think I'll come back or recommend it.
google avatar

Mel P.

Yelp
Finally got to check out this cute spot for lunch last week. I am a huge fan of Japanese noodles, and had my eye on this restaurant for the past year! I went early so as to miss the crowds, and was in and out (takeout) in 5 minutes tops. I was immediately warmly greeted by the staff. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially knowing it was my first time there. They made recommendations, and made me feel very welcome. I was torn on what to get, as it all sounded great! I finally decided on the Wasabi Shoyu Yasai Ramen, which was full of noodles, veggies, and tofu in a delicious broth. It was not super spicy, but had a nice little kick. The food was ready very quickly, and was still piping hot when I got it back to my office to eat it. (As a nice touch, the broth was packed separately from the rest of the ingredients, to prevent it from getting soggy.) I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
This place made me very sad, because I don't live in Philly so I can't eat here all the time. I got the spicy pork ramen and it was one of the best bowls I've ever had. I live in NYC so I have access to some pretty great stuff, but I'd place this alongside any of them, easily. The pork was amazing (no idea how they get it to turn out with such great texture and flavor). The broth was super rich, and nose-running hot but not painful-hot (bring a handkerchief). The noodles, the egg, everything was noteworthy. Can't recommend this place highly enough, and I'll definitely be coming back when next in town.
google avatar

Yelp
If you want the real deal when it comes to Ramen . This is one of the places to go to. The service is the best. They treat you like family here & make sure that you have everything that you need for your meal. There are times when they have their special Oxtails Ramen. Which I had and it was mind blowing. I miss it a whole lot because other Ramen shop don't have that from the others that I had been to. The restaurant is a nice, beautiful small place but it feel like being in your grandparents home. I cannot wait to get back there.

Yelp
Overall this is a solid ramen place not far from rittenhouse square! My friend and I were going to a comedy show a few blocks away and it was freezing out. The ramen really hit the spot. We arrived around 7:30 on a Saturday and it was kind of empty, but then started to fill up. The service was SO fast! We both ordered the Aka nom nom ramen and it was delicious. The broth was flavorful and had a kick of spicyness. The eggs were perfectly cooked. The pork belly just melted in your mouth. And the noodles were great. One thing to note is that it's BYOB. I would come back again!

Rastislav K.

Yelp
Ordered delivery, everything came out nicely packed in RECYCLED BAG!!! That's just amazing! Had the Yasai Ramen, Karai (spicy miso with fragrant black garlic oil) preparation way, it was delicious, the flavors are all there, noodles were cooked to perfection, it may be too spicy for some people but I enjoyed it a lot! Another thing I ordered was the Kyuri(cucumbers in sesame garlic oil), taste of the oil itself was really really good, one thing tho, looks like they just cut the cucumbers and put them in a box and just poured the oil Over it, the cucumbers were still stuck together, maybe mix it before putting it in the box would be better. But overall AMAZING spot for ramen

Yelp
Vegetarian Friendly Review - Casual vibe - Eggplant Bao Buns are great Ramen Review - Great Broth - Good noodle consistency - Lots of toppings Have visited multiple times.

Yelp
Working long hours to produce prints for the city so I haven't been able to prepare food wise. Luckily I work a stones throw from this place. Their food is really good. Today I got the shrimp wrapped in crispy noodles and the Japanese curry ramen with chicken. Normally I tell anyone why go anywhere except Chinatown for Ramen? Well here is a reason.
google avatar

Ben D.

Yelp
Staying down the block at a nearby hotel and decided to give Nom Nom a go. I'm glad we did! The appetizers were delicious and both of the ramen orders we had had delicious broth. The proteins (pork belly and chicken) were fresh and didn't seem over cooked. The eggs were done perfectly. It's a small spot with a limited menu, but what they do offer is very very good! No alcohol available.

Yelp
Recent visit...actually, 2.5 stars. I ordered Shio Ramen this occasion. It was rather busy evening as there were fair number of guests in the shop. I felt like the amount got smaller compared to the last time. Broth was, again, rather not hot but just warm...so, this is still negative point for my taste; but many may prefer not so hot broth temperature. Flavor/Taste was OK, not too thin or not too salty. Noodle was cooked a little too much for my taste. Chashu Pork this time was really chewy, not soft...as if it was not cooked long enough. I will try again when I get a chance...hopefully, broth temperature will be improved somewhat.

Yelp
The BEST ramen I've ever had! My partner and I agree! Nice atmosphere for eat in and quality is excellent for takeout. The signature dish is unbelievable with an incredibly deeply flavored broth and nos many dimensions, and the best pork belly I've ever had in ramen!
